It's amazing how much we actually use our phones in a given day, especially when we watch "videos"! Rate this thread to express how many hours of screen-on time you can get on the Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 8 before depleting the battery.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
I am getting about 3-4 sot on mine. Kind of disappointed.
I've only had my device for a few days, but currently I have 5.30 SOT, with running time of 12 hours.. This is only the 4th day of owning the phone, so we will see..

Still on the same cycle.. I'll probably charge in a little bit.. I'm kind of shocked honestly.. I hope it stays this way.. This is even better than my note 7..

My question is how much of that time is from the always on display? It adds to the SOT, but isn't as useful as actually having the screen on!

Not bad. Especially after it settled in some. Mostly low screen brightness of course.

So how were you able to get 9 hours of SOT? My battery isn’t bad, but not close to that. What are your settings, Launcher, automation apps, etc. that you are doing to obtain this? Do you have any installed apps disabled/enabled that you think us helping to attribute to these results? Basically, it would be nice to know what your doing and we can all decide if we want to try any of those methods because obviously, some may not work for us. However, we may have no problem at all using other ideas. Thanks for help with this.

I no longer remember honestly, and I don't pay it much attention anymore. That was long ago(I easily get through a day, so with my workload now that's all that concerns me), and I don't feel like playing games(I posted how and what I did, and some wanted to be childish). The phone has good battery life for me, and that's all I will say from now on.. Sorry to be this way, but maybe XDA needs to get rid of some of the flamers..

I’m not trying to be childish or argumentative with you. I realize it’s been awhile since you posted this, but, unfortunately, this is the first time I noticed this post. I came across this thread because I was looking for a couple of other things and when I saw this I thought wow that seems great. However, I realized this is the first phone that I really don’t fully know how I’m doing with battery for real. What I mean by that is I preordered the phone so I’ve had it as long as you could. However about 4 years ago I got rushed to the hospital and was given a 5% chance of living, was put in a coma for 3 months and have had 10+ surgeries and 15+ procedures. So fortunately, I bear the odds, but unfortunately, I’m not past all of it. I thought I was, but several months ago (just a little bit before I got the phone) I took a turn for the worse. I basically leave the house for doctors and hospitals, so it’s not my normal schedule. I use my phone, but not like I normally do. So I have good battery life, but then I realize that I have a few business calls come through on it, a few texts, lots of notifications, some messing around with it, etc. So I look at my SOT and it’s really not a lot, yet my battery is draining. Not badly, but I started to think about it. If it’s draining as much as it is when I’m at home and using it the way that I am, what will it be like if I get back to my old schedule? So when I saw this I figured I would ask if there is anything that you are doing special. I’m just looking for advice. So if you have the time and you wouldn’t mind to let me know, I would appreciate it. If not, I get it.
There are 2 reasons (how I came about this thread) that maybe you wouldn’t mind helping me with. I was curious if you disabled any bloatware from VZW. I do use cloud and message+ because it turns my tablet into a phone (which can come in handy if I can’t get up because of my health). The other item was Smart Lock, specifically Trusted Places. The rest are working perfectly. As a matter of fact, Trusted Places was working that way until about a month ago. Now I have to mess around a bit to get it work, but it lasts at most for 2 days and then I have to repeat again. Unfortunately, it’s also getting worse because it’s taking me longer to getting it to work. It’s frustrating because like I said presently I’m at home a lot, but I still do go to doctors and hospitals and im really hoping soon back to the way it was. I’d really like my phone to be set up the way it was. I use Nova Prime, Gboard, Macrodroid and IFTTT, Message+ and Mymail app (for my email because I save a lot of emails for a couple of different email addresses and this app works great. I have approximately 60,000 emails on my phone and I can access them so quickly. Quicker than any other email app than I’ve ever used by far and away. I wanted to use the stock Samsung app like I did before, but the circle spins and spins, if you want to keep even just a month of emails on my phone), and of course, lastly the Original S Note app with Action Memo, Photo Note, Easy Chart, Idea Sketch, Sketchbook, etc. I hope that’s enough information from me. I’m hoping you change your mind and are willing to help me out, but I can also understand how some of these sites can be frustrating as well as how busy everyday life can be so if you can’t, I get that, too. Enjoy your phone!

I had android with a droidX about a year back and original loved the platform, but I switched out for an Iphone 4 for the apps. Now that most of the apps I use everyday are ported over to android, i think i might pick up a thunderbolt on the cheap to try out android again. If i like it, i'll pick up a galaxy nexus when my contract runs up , if not , i'll bank my upgrade and wait for the iphone 5.
What would you do. Do you think android has changed in the pass year and is worth making a trip back for? I really like the way iphone can handle ms exchange. I remember having such a hassle with touchdown last time around.

I think android has come a very long way in the past year, and will only get better. Even f you don't like the thunderbolt, you'd love he galaxy nexus. From the videos I've seen of it... There are no words to describe it lol. Besides, most any app you could want that the iPhone has, android probably has it, or maybe even something better these days.

bringing up the thunderbolt and iphone is like comparing 2 different sports teams and you know how loyal & crazy fans can get.
seriously though, both are solid OS' and offer their own way of functioning. Before I had an android phone I was on windows mobile up till I got my HD2. I had ipod touches on the side and thought they were cool, but it wasn't until I got my first android(a mytouch slide) rhat I decided that I'm sticking with android and that's that. it was kind of weird adjusting to it at first but once you realize the potential & support of the android system/community how can you go with anything else? I wouldn't mind having an ipod touch again for music purposes, but I can't see myself getting an iphone.
that and iphone is still 3G & supposedly apple doesn't like where 4G is right now and says they probably wont incorporate 4G into the iphone 5 either.
p.s. siri isn't all that great either.
I have an iPhone 4 in one pocket and Thunderbolt in the other pocket. I do that so I can keep my personal phone and work stuff seperate. Is be glad to answer the specific questions you have. I like both of them, they each have their strong points. The iPhone 4 and iOS runs quite smooth, hardly ever does anything similar to a force close and doesn't ever freeze up, stuff like that. But with Android you have control over every feature and its settings. Phone customization options are endless. I would say that if you like to tinker and be able to dig around and do anything you want to your phone, Android fits that need perfect. If you want a smooth, great running OS without ever tweaking a thing, and reliability, stick with the iPhone.
Hardware wise, screen size is a big deal to some people. Some like the real estate, but then again others don't like how big it is to carry/hold. The iphone has better fit and finish I think, small things like button feel after a few months of use are much better on the iPhone. But they have the advantage of only having one model to focus on for things like this. Android makers have so many different options available so they don't get to spend as much time/resources on a single phone.
Also, the ability to flash roms and make so many UI tweaks on Android allows you to turn your phone into something completely different any time you want.
Last week I was bored and wanted to mix things up, so i switched over from sense 3.0 to sense 3.5. I'm someone who likes to tinker. I drag race, build hot rods and show trucks, and like to fix broken stuff. The ability to change up the interface totally is a wonderful option, and personally a big "pro" for me.
Let me know what else I can answer for you.

Like what was already said before. The galaxy nexus is an amazing device. Android as an OS is an absolute powerhouse. Iphones are always going to be behind the curve from this point on.

I guess its also important for you to tell us what apps do you use most often on iOS and we can offer examples of what's available on Android, if anything to equivalate them. Since that seems to have been the main reason you originally switched.
From what I understand, if games are your primary goal, the iOS still has a good advantage, but the screen is significantly smaller. For just about everything else, it seems Android either is on par or exceeds iOS alternatives.

And yes - I imagine that going from teh Thunderbolt to the Nexus will be comparable from going from the Aveo to the Corvette.
I mean they are both running Chevy - but one is going to be a complete different experience than the other.

HAHA I would get the Aveo just to run the wheels off of it like it were a go-cart. That reminds me of when I was young and had a Chevette... I wore the emergency brake out on that little car. haha

CharliesTheMan is correct in his observation.
My wife has the iPhone 4S and I have a Thunderbolt and Droid Charge. The 4S is perfect for what my wife wants. It doesn't have a lot to be confusing and it just works without problem. The phone doesn't get in the way of doing what you want to do; it is just smooth and quickly works without any hesitation.
The Thunderbolt and Charge on the other-hand are customized and overclocked how I like it. I am a 'tinkerer' too. I've got my TB running Synergy ROM with the Sense 3.5 and it is simply awesome. Sure, I have an occasional hickup with an app or ROM sometimes but I have the knowledge to fix the problem and go on; not everyone wants a phone like that, including my wife.
So, the choice really isn't to get an iPhone 4S or an Android phone but the choice is what type of user are you? Do you like to have options or simplicity? But then again, I guess you can Jailbreak the iPhone for a change. LOL
My wife wanted a white iphone 4 when we switched to verizon. She had it for 2 days before we exchanged it for a thunderbolt.
Internet browsing was faster on the thunderbolt in full site comparisons. My wife also didn't like dealing with itunes for all music and videos.
Find one for cheap and play around. Only problem is if you go back and forth from the iphone to the Bolt, you will probably have to get a new sim everytime you switch to the Bolt.
I just want to make sure that the people that have problems are only the few of many who need to speak out. This is for people to speak out about NOT having issues.
GPS isn't an issue, at least to me.
According to this very small poll you have a little over a 75% chance of getting a good one.

Good luck man! You'll get a good one. Hater's gonna hate around here...just don't listen to it. You have to remember also that people will tend to seek out a forum for support when they are having problems before they go on to give positive feedback. Especially with the average person who doesn't frequent forums much.

Mine is flawless. WiFi is just as strong or stronger than my HTC Inspire. I'm at work so have not played with it too much, but I just took it out of the box. I love this thing. I will report back but so far with what it has done, I do not have any problems. Also, I have not tested GPS, mainly because like you, I do not care about the GPS functionality I knew this going into it. So you will get a good one, I have faith!
Reading here I see so many gripes and had so many worries, but now that I have my tablet in my hand all of those worries are relieved, this thing is fantastic. In my opinion way better than the iPad that everyone keeps telling me I should have got instead.
Android Forever.
Mine is also flawless. 100% so (hope I dont jinx myself.)

Once I factory reset mine after the upgrade to ICS, no issues with the device. GPS is fine as far as I am concerned. Sure, it's not strong but the previous one wasn't stellar either. WiFi I don't see an issue with at all.
And I even have a serial # on mine
working great here
Wifi is definitely weak-ish on mine, but no big deal. Everything (besides GPS which I haven't tried) else seems to work great.
Not gonna lie, its flawless over here. Though I can sympathize for those with problems. Really bad luck.

Really? Flawless? ... cmon everything has flaws to some extent.
Now, sometimes they are tolerable or a "meh whatever", but every device has flaws.
My washing machine has some UI flaws, but nothing I can't live with. Same for my car, and computer OS (linux), and ...
So, everyone should simply read between lines. There will be "Flawless" primes, and also completely "Fawked" primes.
Some issues are more real than others, but they all have issues in the eyes of the person holding it.
I finally got a perfect one...
I'm not having any problems - because I have not bought one yet... ... being happy to not be an early adopter has it's advantages.
I do sympathize with those having issues though!
No issues here. Very happy owner!
also perfect here no problem what so ever
Two happy owners
My wife and I both bought one and the docks. Both 32GB gray. We both upgraded to ICS, and both work and look flawless.
The only complaint I would have is the java. This thing has the power to run the full java virtual machine, instead of just the phone based java. That is not a fault of the tablet and my wife and I both are extremely satisfied - no - better said thrilled with the Prime. I think as Asus (however its pronounced ) releases even more firmware updates, it will get even better. I upgraded mine from a Nook Color that I had rooted with CM7, and my wife decided on this over an iPad. She's very glad she chose this over the iPad.
RR II
I'd like to thank EVERYONE for their input, even posts outside of this thread. I'm glad that I was able to see a positive outlook about the Prime as well as problems some people had as well, just to know what to expect in case something went wrong. This thread specifically makes me excited for my Prime coming in late tomorrow, and I can barely wait!
Thank you again to everyone! (Would "thank" everyone post-by-post, but I'm limited to 8 per day.)
i bought mine yesterday and i am very happy with it.. havent got the ics update yet because turkish update hasnt been released yet.. i am so excited about the ics update as i have tried cm9 on my sgsII and saw how amazing the ics is. This thing is great enough to make me happy as i always want to have the best.
Edit: I just realised this is my first post eventhough i have joined and have been following xda developers for a year..
I received my Prime a week ago and I am going to return it today.
I have the latest firmware updates, including the GPS "fix" which changed my GPS capability from marginal to absolutely useless. And I have the bluetooth wifi issue, although it only occurs with one of my headsets. Two newer headsets do not cause the problem so it's not an issue. Neither is the GPS since I don't really need it on a tablet. And I really like the ICS UI on the Prime, and with ADW EX on top, I love it.
However, the overriding problem is general poor wifi reception. One of the things I do every day with a tablet (in addition to read email, browse, and play words with friends) is watch video at night in bed, using a tablet to not disturb my wife. My old crappy (albeit with CM7) Nook Color does this flawlessly and has full bars of wifi at this location, which is about 20 ft from the wifi router, but through a wall and a floor. The Prime shows one or two bars but stutters so much on streaming video (from netflix, youtube, other internet, or local server) that it is unusable.
I think that once it was discovered the Prime had so many issues, Asus' first priority should not have been trying to roll out half-tested firmware updates but to release the bootloader unlocker as quickly as possible. I have far more confidence in the devs at XDA to fine tune the software of a device to get the best possible performance of the hardware than I do with any manufacturer. And I should have followed my own rule on buying mobile devices, and that is to not consider buying one unless there are XDA roms available for it. But, it was quad core! And ICS! And hi-res! I got caught up in the excitement and ignored my own advice.
Now I don't know what to buy. Maybe wait for the 700 series, or just get an OG transformer once the price drops.
Cool story, bro.
I'm having an omelette this morning with some really spicy jalapeno cheese and some nice uncured ham. It should be really good. I think I'll enjoy it immensely.
This morning, I took a big dump, at first I thought that I would delay doing it till the evening so that I can a better version (after lunch) but I was having so many issues and my stomach was making noises so I decided to just go.
Moral of the story: No one gives a f**k whether you keep your Prime or return it. There are already countless threads like these, please stop posting this s**t.

For some folks WiFi seems to work fine. For others, the signal and speed degrades rapidly as you move away from the router. Much worse than other devices for me.

The responses to your post have nothing to do with the Prime's performance, and everything to do with your creating another thread harping on the same issues that already exist in many, many duplicate threads. Why should anyone feel the need to respond to you about issues that've already been beaten to death?

It is just as smooth and fast as my Skyrocket. If anybody is having performance issues you need to get it swapped out ASAP you will wish you had sooner.

That's not really so funny.
I also came from the Skyrocket and initially thought the Note was fast. Than I came on Xda and alot of user were reporting on how slow their phones were. Than I started noticing lag every where. Now after not thinking about it for awhile I dont notice the lag anymore. So my point is that by others saying how bad it was I started seeing the same0, whether it was there or not.

After freezing half a dozen bloat apps I found my Note was running much nicer. Stock rom, rooted.

which apps did you freeze?
The phone running slow isn't a hardware problem..

just flash a good ROM, don't expect good performance from a stock ROM

I have the note, although it is the international version.
When I first got it, it had just a little lag here and there. I don't use touchwiz, I use go launcher. I've had 4 updates, now at 2.36, LB2 and this last update (got it Thursday night) made this thing smooth with ZERO lag. Even scrolling apps in the app drawer, which, would lag for maybe 1-2 flips, then smooth out, is smooth as
silk with zero lag.
I lost root some time back, so it isn't a root issue, but perhaps on the at&t version it has to do with the bloat apps that run all the time?

okay not bashing here so dont take this wrong but I'm just trying to wrap my head around this statement, so you pay $300+ for your device but dont expect stock ROM performance to be any good?...seriously? I dont understand why someone wouldn't of course, and if it did underperform (mine runs fine) as a consumer you have every right to take it back. I think alot of people lose sight of the fact that it's still a PHONE that can now do amazing things that you would not have had the luxury of just a few short years back. And granted, the awesome development we enjoy through these forums does improve quality and enjoyment value of these devices to the point of maybe spoiling us as advanced users, but remember the vast majority of consumers of these devices are typical users and to them (and me) the Note on GB/Touchwiz although not a perfect machine is still an amazing device right "out of the box".

It is an amazing device but the Carrier$ load it down with u$ele$$ and unnece$$ary $oftware to $queeze more money from you. In the process the Bloatware DOES in fact hinder the performance as they run even when you don't launch them yourself. By getting rid of the bloatware you are unleashing the true potential of this beast of a phone.
Think of it this way... If you bought say a Subaru WRX STi and when you went to go pick it up and it had a bunch of useless Car Dealer stickons and random crap that hindered the performance, you are saying you wouldn't be upset ?

Very true. I'd probably be using an iphone if it weren't for the DEVs here. Sad that we need them to unlock the full potential of our devices. We also get better support from them than the companies that make them. A great example of that is the HP Touchpad.
Support your local DEVs. I do so by adding to their beer/coffee funds. Coffee is better as it keeps them up longer to work on things

**** you Asus. $500 for this utter piece of **** tablet. I can't use gmail, email, maps, calendar, widgets, no games at all, pretty much ANYTHING, because everything just hangs after a few seconds. I've waited since last December, one update after the other, even went through a month long RMA, so far no sign of improvement. With the last bits of patience left I'll wait for the jelly bean update... and then if the prime still sucks - I'm going to punch a hole in this thing with a hammer, apply the baseball bat treatment office space style, and post pictures of it here.

RAM Manager PRO with profile hard gaming fixed all my problems ! I was like you since january... Using that app and slide out apps from recent apps list when I finish using them, gives me 0 crashes.
Try It man !
Good luck !

Why shouldn't he be able to let off a bit of steam after waiting nine months for updates to fix his problems and going through a lengthy RMA process that still didn't fix the issues he's having. It sounds like his Prime is unusable in it's current state which is unacceptable for a $500+ product. I'm sure the stories of being upgraded to an Infinity or being given a full refund doesn't help the situation either, it saddens me to see other people given a get out of jail free card when I'm left with a product I find sub-par from a technical standpoint that I have no way of getting rid of.

I do think he was overly harsh against folks who have problems and cant help themselves. However I got the same weak wifi laggy prime everybody else with problems had, I just did something about it instead of waiting too long to return it and crying the blues. If my college student kid came to me and said I got some tech that is unusable as is but I waited too long to return it. I would ask her whose fault is that?
Instead of giving us that excuse on why you haven't applied a hammer to it yet due to wait on upcoming JB release.
Why don't you just go to ASUS and download the 4.1 JellyBean update for TF300 and install in on your TF201.
Whilst I agree that's what should happen, many people either naively hoped for future fixes and so kept it as it would be a struggle to get another at the time or like myself were unaware of some of the issues until it was too late (I had less than a week since I bought it abroad from a shop that doesn't operate over here). I wasn't able to compare the WiFi since I didn't know where the router was in the Villa I was staying in and had no other device to compare it to so was ignorant to the WiFi problem which I guess you could partly blame me for for not checking online. Many aren't willing to open their Prime's like you did (A move I may try if the WiFi is still poor after my RMA) to fix their issues out of fear of another issue coming up and then not being able to RMA it for that issue.
