Mount external HD as local storage - Android Stick & Console AMLogic based Computers

Hi,
I found some tutorials on how to mount external hard disk (connected to my Asus router USB) as local storage/folder on my android box (t95z) but I have troubles figuring out what is the correct share path. I also tried with googles Android samba client (and cifsmanager from the tutorial) but I can't get the right path to work. I can access the HD from Solid Explorer or kodi and all I have to do is write the local ip 192.168.1.1 but for above mentioned apps it doesnt work. nor does smb://192.168.1.1/ or smb://192.168.1.1/Transcend or just /192.168.1.1/
I need this primarily so that some apps that don't have network access can access my hard disk

It is a common problem with routers and shared storage
I had to go trough all sorts of hurdles every time I got a new router.
Best option would be to check Google for your router model and to look for things like acces problem for media drive, hard drive access, authorisation.
In many cases the router will provide the connected storage only if you log on to the IP of the router.
This is not only confusing but also a problem as not in all cases the client requesting can provide the required details to make this drive accessible.
Quite often the real path the has to follow after the IP or an inter webaddress for it is required for "general access" - this can often be found through a detailed Google search if you use the right terms and have some time.

How do I connect LG Vortex-VZ's Optimus One-to my company Wifi and use apps over it?

I have recently purchased an LG Vortex (from what I read is Verizon Wireless's Optimus One) that comes with the Android 2.2 operating system installed. I have looked into rooting my phone with z4root and have successfully temporarily rooted my phone. I would rather keep my phone unrooted, but if it is absolutely necessary I will root it permanently with z4root.
My question is this: How can I connect to my company wifi and use apps that require wifi?
I can successfully connect to my corporate wifi through the 802.1x EAP protocol. The problem comes when trying to access any of the apps that require internet (I am forcing Verizon's data plan not to be used--using wifi only due to 150MB limit on my data to save $$ per month). None of my apps seem to work--internet browser, Market, Gmail, Google Calendar, etc...
On my company pc I know that within internet explorer the box is checked that says "Use automatic configuration script" and gives an "Address" that is in the format of "..../proxy.pac" It looks like my work uses a proxy for things to connect to the internet. I have no such place to put this information in my LG Vortex. I downloaded an app that seemed promising called "Proxy Settings" which will allow me to enter in the following Hostname and Port. When I tried to enter the "..../proxy.pac" as the hostname it gave me an error stating "The hostname you typed is not valid."
Is there an app or something that will allow me to use my apps when connecting to my corporate wifi? Is it a proxy setting thing or a VPN thing? I am not sure. I am open to any and every idea so that I can use my phone's online features while connected to my company's wifi.
FYI - I have friends that have iPod touches and they are able to connect to the internet with some apps internet browsing and downloading apps, but they have a similar issue of not being able to use all of their apps as well. I believe they were able to put the "..../proxy.pac" address in their devices somewhere.
Thanks!
I am a new member on this forum but I decided to reply because I have a question and a possible solution for you:
-solution:try to download the *.pac file. You will see that it is probably a script that defines your actual proxy's ip.So you could try and figure out which is your actual proxy's ip.Then use this ip for the proxy-app. (However I am afraid that only browser will connect properly, not every app)
-and now the question:how did you manage to connect to the network?I have trouble connecting because the wifi settings menu doesn't seem to help.
I try to connect to a 802.1x EAP network and I have installed the required certificates but I don't know what to fill to username, password fiels.

[Q] Network Harddrive & IP Cameras

I need help configuring my router and tinyCam Monitor app. Here is my setup, Asus RT-N13U rev. B router, Tablet running Android 2.3, and 2 IP Foscams.
My goal: To run the IP Cameras that are directly plugged into the router, wirelessly access the cameras through my tablet using tinyCam Monitor (which it does work), then utilize the recording function with tinyCam Monitor and record the cameras saving the files wirelessly to the a hard drive connected to my router.
Here is where I need some help. I have an external hard drive connected to my router via the USB port, works fine, I can transfer back and forth. I have the IP cameras plugged into the router and I am using the tinyCam Monitor app, which works very well and I am able to view both cameras. The tinyCam Monitor program offers a recording function, which can record to FTP server. The catch is I do not have internet connected to the router.
Question 1: How do I setup my router (ex. FTP server, Virtual Server,…), so I can permanently access the hard drive through my tablet? What setting do I need to setup on the router?
Question 2: Based on the configurations of my router. When I use tinyCam Monitor, do I have the program look for an FTP server? Is there any other path I can use to tell the program where to write the recorded files, so they write to the hard drive connected to the router?
Question 3: Do I need to setup my Tablet with any specific setting, such as an SSH configuration, so it can communicate with the router as I need it to?
Question 4: Mapping the Network Drive??? This is easy on a PC, by just mapping a network drive and I have access to the hard drive easily. Is there a way to do so on my tablet? Setting up the network hard drive as a functioning folder would also be a possible solution to my problem.
Any input or solution will be helpful. This has been a 4 week project of mine and I have reached a point where it is beyond my general knowledge of networking/router configuration and a tablets communication capabilities, vast readings of forum posts, and no tutorials has what I need. I am hoping there is someone out there that is versed in both these areas. I am also hoping there is an answer to my goal or some solution, besides one telling me I have wasted a lot of money.
Thanks a bunch,
-Mr. Frustrated

[Q] Windows Shares & Prime

Hi all,
A few variations of my question seemed to have been asked but I've not really found anything that has helped me.
I would like to clarify with any of you network guru's the correct setup between my PC and Prime for browsing network shares (or indeed just my entire PC if poss).
Currently my Win 7 PC sharing settings are as follows:
Network Discovery: On
File and Printer Sharing: On
Public Folder Sharing: Off
Media Streaming: Off
File Sharing Connections: 128 bit
Password Protected Sharing: On
I have a number of shares already setup from when I was using my Home group (which is now disabled as I use a separate app for managing media across the home network). I've tried variations of the above settings with no luck (e.g. Media sharing on, password protected sharing off etc).
I've fiddled with the permissions on some of the folders so that either 'Everyone' or my Windows user account has Full control however the Prime refuses to see these shares. It detects the PC (I've tried ES File Explorer and File Expert, which in the past have worked with other Samba shares which puzzles me even more) but refuses a connection as either Anonymous or with my Windows credentials entered in both apps. Other network apps connect fine (Splashtop HD, Plex, SABnzbd+ etc).
Help? I'm pulling my hair out at this stage as I just don't see why this is so hard... As mentioned, my Prime has worked with other SMB shares (I used to have a NAS for example), File Expert even worked briefly when I had the homegroup enabled but I don't want that running anymore as I want greater control over my network shares (realistically, the only person I want viewing/editing files/folders on my PC is me and likely only from my Prime).
Sigh...

[Q] Remote HDD access

Hi,
I have a HTC Sensation XL running ICS, the device is not rooted. Does anyone know of any apps that I can use to remotely access a hard disc attached to my home router?
What I want to achieve is kind of my own cloud storage system, I have seen these networked hard drives that attach directly to your broadband router rather than being inside a P.C and then computers on the home network can access this hard drive via the router, kind of like a central storage area for every one in the household. Well I want to set up the same thing but with the added bonus of being able to access the HDD when I am out of the house as well, via my phone or android tablet. I spend a lot of time in the country on my own and fill my devices with music and films etc and basically I want to access my entire library of media remotely. I have tried drop box, sugar sync, Skydrive etc but they do not provide any where near enough storage space for my needs, at least not for free and if I can achieve the above I will not be limited by the storage capacity of the device.
I currently use Pocketcloud to access files on my PC when I am away from home and this is fine for when the computer is turned on but when its not obviously I cant access anything, my theory is that a HDD connected directly to my router would be accessible 24 hours day as it should be independent of my PC, the question is how to actually set this up.
I have tried using ES File explorer to detect my home network but it wont for some reason, I was hoping that if I got it to find my network it might allow me to do the above however I could be wrong so any advice that people could give regarding this would be great.
Thanks
Ben

[Q] Cant get to connect to samba shared disk

I cant connect nor find my samba network drive from Android whatsover... I have tried using different apps (ES File Explorer, AndroXplorer and AndSMB), but none of them are able to connect nor to find my shared folders....
On the android client side, I am using anonymous login and I have tried using both the ip address of the samba server in the hostname field and the hostname itself. I also tried with the domain set or empty. I have a Galaxy Nexus with Android 4.2.1
On the server side, I have the following configuration ( add V0BRW3vK to pastebin address -> sorry I cant post links) and I can access it through windows, ubuntu and even through my playstation =D But not with my android device... Therefore, I dont think it is a server issue (unless if Android connects in a different way).
It is also perhaps worth mentioning that my samba server has a static IP and it is not on the DHCP list of the router. However, Im not sure if this should influence something as I'm even trying to access it directly through its IP.
Is there something I need to do in the android device beforehand in order to connect to the network drive? Any hints of what could be going wrong? Most of the issues, I read about it seem to handled in my config and have been discarded due to the fact that I can connect to the shared folder with other devices. The only other thing that comes to my mind now is to either find an open source application that connects to a samba shared folder and run it with logging (and get more info about it), or to develop one =S
Use this tutorial, worked for me:
http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/ta...roid-to-windows-and-samba-shared-directories/
I've done it without success.
The phone does not see the networked pc (fig C of the tutorial) and even after filling the details (fig D), I cant see the shared folder.
problem with port
it was actually something related to the ports. I had some conflicting rules on my firewall which I think it was allowing just TCP and on ipv4 local ips on the 445 port, and denying the rest. After I got a cleaner port filtering configuration it worked.
