Is it possible to flash data to internal memory using ODIN? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
I just switched firmware versions and had to do a full wipe.
Now I want to copy all my data back to the internal memory but of course in the current Android versions this means that all files now have the dates of when I copied them.
This is no problem for most files, but it is a problem for pictures. They are sorted by date and therefor completely out of order.
I was thinking, since only root users are allowed to change the time stamps/dates, would it be possible to pack the images into a tar file and then copy them to the phone using ODIN? This would basically be a root operation, right?
If so, does anybody know how to make this work?
P.S.: My phone is obviously unrooted and needs to remain unrooted for now. So I am looking for an alternative

What do you want to do?
Move Photos From PC to Phone Using Odin.

Move photos from PC to phone WITHOUT losing file dates. So keeping the original date of creation.

Try Using a Sharing Tool To move A Few Photos.
Because odin Can't do that.
Odin is only made to flash Firmware.
I've never seen or have Ever Heard about odin Copying, moving or deleting Files from Internal storage.
Your only option is to either Move The Folders Via a PC to Mobile Moving app Or by Moving files to a SDcard of a Rooted Phone and editing and Then inserting to required Device.

Well, syncing tools and ftp etc. all access the running Android system and therefor all need root permission to write time stamps.
Odin, to my knowledge, can flash data to any partition on the device. Since you can repartition the internal storage with it, I figured it might be possible to write data to the internal storage partition.
Basically Odin takes data (apps, etc.) and copies them to the respective internal psrtitions such as system, data, recovery etc.
So if you knew what the internal memory is called and knew how to let Odin know that the content of your tar file is to be copied to that internal memory, then Odin should be able to bypass any system limitations and basically act like a root user.

[Q] Can't Root - /System directory too small

Hello, I could use a little advice. I rooted my Vibrant when the phone came stock with Eclair. I then upgraded to Froyo using Kies mini. Of course, I lost root access. Since then I have tried many ways to root my phone again, without any success. Yesterday, I tried by using SuperOneClick....again. This time I scrolled back through the commands and found that the necessary files couldn't be copied into the /system/bin or /system/xbin directories because the /system directory is too small. I checked the /system drectory and have only 28k available out of 375.81M allocated to this directory.
I have read the NOOB Guide, but still have questions. If I have to go back to Eclair does my /system directory get allocated more space? I already rooted in Eclair and lost it going to Froyo, so I don't understand that suggestion.
Obviously, I need enlightenment....someone please enlighten me.
Thanks in advance.
Try backing up everything from your internal sd on your computer, then format it and try again.

Do as posted above. Then you might want to try the toolbox.

Thanks for responding. I want to make sure that I understand. When I USB to my PC and open the drives from the Samsung, I see drives L and K. The 2Gb one is my external and the 13Gb one is the internal drive. So theoretically, if I copy all of the files that I see from the internal drive to my PC, then restart in recovery and format the card, I should be able to continue to boot the phone, connect the USB and copy all the files back?
I don't see any of the root files on this drive on the PC but I do on the phone.
There are definitly some gaps in my knowledge.
Correct. Just copy everything from the 14g (internal) to your pc. You can format without recovery. Menu>settings>sd and storage

Thanks. I'm downloading the toolkit now.
I have another question. As I got to the end of the download, I received a message about 2 files whose names were too long to copy to Windows (7 - 64 bit). The dialog box suggested that I rename the files to something shorter, but I don't know how to identify those files are if that is even necessary.
Ok, I have copied out my internal sd successfully. I have done a factory reset and a format from the Recover menu. When I check the /system dir after each of those actions, I still get 28k available. Should I try to repartition in order to reallocate space?
Thanks again for any assistance.
Success !!
I reformatted the card but wasn't able to change the system size...so I used the AIO toolbox to flash back to eclair...checked the file capacity of the /system directory and it was reported at 13Mb now. So I'm back to eclair and rooted. I'm going to attempt to flash froyo and hope not to lose root.
Thanks again for your help.

Accidentally deleted sdcard folder!

So I was cleaning up in Windows Explorer some junk and photos from my phone. I saw an empty folder and deleted it, it was the only folder so I then, without thinking, deleted it's parent folder sdcard. I caught myself right away actually reading the name of the folder and tried Control+Z for undo delete immediately but it's not a command that works while browsing on the DNA in Windows. I should of immediately unplugged my phone, but was trying to just undelete the folder.
So no I sit here trying to figure out if there's any hope at all for my Droid DNA and all the pictures that I hadn't saved onto my PC yet. I've tried running various recovery programs, I have the full version of Easus Data recovery, but no recovery software recognizes the phone as a drive.
I have twrp but no backups. I know as I use the phone the files are being overwritten, but is there any Droid DNA specific recovery program I can use to retrieve my pictures?
Also I have a bootable FatDog64 linux that I could use if there are recovery programs I could use in a Linux environment.
Anything is appreciated.
Thanks
How about booting into the bootloader, then make the sdcard folder (it might be a symbolic link, please correct me if I'm wrong) using adb.

But that wouldn't repopulate the old contents of sdcard. I'm looking for something like a recycler folder where I can undelete the folder. Although I think I had too much to be able to do that. The crappiest part is I have a large range of tools for recovery, but the Droid DNA's internal SDcard doesn't act like a drive in any way.
I have Windows 8 and it reads my DNA as a portable device. Can you not use your recovery program(s) by right clicking on the "sdcard" (mine calls it "internal storage" and opening you recovery program that way and then try to recover your pictures?
Unfortunately there's no way to recovery the images if you deleted them. If it was a corrupted storage there might've been some hope but in this case I'm sorry there's not.
I believe there is a app that you can download and is supposed to work like you want to recover things that have been deleted but you must be rooted. I can't remember the name of the app though.
Edit: I found 2 the first one seems better and more towards what you want. Also not sure if it works since I've never used it but reviews seem to say it works.

[Q] How to make a real Clean Wipe after flashed a new ROM

Hello guys,
after flashed so many ROMs, I see my internal storage with lots of folders...
Some folders starting with . (dot) and some normal.
I know that some of these folders were created when installed some apps.
But now, I'm very happy with lastest MROM, I want to do a real clean in my internal storage.
And I think the "trash" (not really trash, but maybe old rom configs, etc) are still in my internal storage.
Every folder in internal storage can be removed? If yes, can I just delete them from windows?
Any of these folders are used by android system?
Thank you very much!
Of you just flash the rom then you can go ahead and delete everything I'm the internal storage. Yes there are some needed files but from what I know android with automatic create back the needed files. I usually format my internal storage and add card after I flash a rom I plan to keep. I don't keep anything important on my storage but you get the point.

The Android system couldn't care less about anything in the user storage. Those are mostly your pictures, videos, music, whatever. Some of them however (including the "dot" ones) are the applications' config or state files, if you delete those the app will just go back to freshly-installed state. In short, there is no way to stop the system itself from working by doing anything to the user storage (unless of course you've modified the system itself).
Thank you guys!
I will clean my internal storage then.
Moderation please close the thread

[Q] Stuck on 4GLTE Screen but need to recover files

I know there are a lot of posts out there about how to reflash the roms but none of them I have seen discuss whether I can access any files from the internal memory of the phone.
So, is there anyway I can access the files on the phone before wiping it and starting over or a way to start over w/o losing the files?
Thx!!
With TWRP file manager in recovery or mounting USB storage.

Full Mirror/Copy of internal storage

Hi there. So, I had a rooted device running Android 5.1, which I wanted to update to 6.0.1.
I had the device softbricked for a while and I could only fix it by flashing it with new partitioning.
So now, I have an internal storage which appears to be empty (in windows explorer) but of course there are still tons of old data on that drive.
I realised, that my backup does not contain certain data which I would have liked to keep.
I hope, that I can recover some files using Recuva. For that I need a full mirror/copy of my internal storage.
How can I do that? At the moment I don't have root, but I could root it, if needed. I think that could possibly override more old data though.
Thanks in advance.
Doesnt seem to be an ideal solution, but I just rooted the phone with 6.0.1, installed busybox to add linux tools like netcat and installed a terminal to copy a full image of the userpartition to my desktop.
I can run Recuva on that image then.
