Hi Guys, I just got my phone back from LG (bootloop). When it came back to me it had VS99029A installed with B15.LGE.VS990.0 configuration. I am wondering if it is possible to root it still or am I screwed now? I really don't want too brick it attempting to root it.
Thanks,
Erik
29A can't be root.
Thanks. I was afraid of that.
Just got mine back too, also 29A-- no way to downgrade, I assume, and no plans to work on a root for it?
Or if not root, at least twrp/something so I can flash apps rather than having to install them one-by-one?

Hi everyone. Im real good with tech but i cant find anyone having asked...
I want to go buy the S4 and I will definitely root it (following the posted instructions on here) but before i do, will i be able to instal OTA updates after and if not, is there another way id be able to install updates? I used Voodoo rootkeeper on my tablet after rooting and the 1st ota went fine and kept root, the 2nd ota killed the root even while using Voodoo...
Please, any any all responses asap appreciated. I want to get the phone asap as i am tired of my rooted Bionic.
Thank all.

Just wait for a rooted stock ROM based on the OTA to be made by a dev. You never NEED to take an OTA.
Thanks but im not sure what you mean. I have no interest in loading custom roms nor over-screwing around with the phone. Do you mean wait for another root process or wait for a download for an ota update?
Thanks again
Im guessing you mean a rom will be released again after the ota is out with the ota integrated in it... That process makes me kind of nervous as i need my phone for work as well as personal and cant risk screwing up the phone or erasing data eta...
There is pretty much always someone that releases the stock ROM flashable in a custom recovery so you can have a rooted stock ROM. Look at the dev beanstownm106 ROM in the development section. It is basically the stock ROM rooted with some very minor tweaks, but flashable with a custom recovery like TWRP.
BUT...there is almost never anything you can't do with basically any ROM that you can do with the stock ROM. So you really don't need the stock ROM...some people just prefer it. For my old Thunderbolt, it was pretty well known that for a long time there was a custom ROM, very similar to the stock ROM, that was more stable than stock (SkyRaider Zeus).
Another BUT: if you need Good for work, prepare for a constant fight with root detection. And you will want to back up your data often. I have a BB for work that I leave untouched (its not mine).
One more thing...the Loki workaround has its advantages...the bootloader is still locked and untouched, so it would be pretty hard to brick the device because you can get back into download mode and use odin to flash back to factory.
Whats the loki workaround? Also, im dont want to be doing any kind of flashing... I just simply want to root the s4 (which i now have) and be able to run ota updates or if not, download the ota and install the update manually. And if i get an ota, if it will kill root, even if i run voodoo.
Please, if someone could, let us all know if ota wont run or will kill root on say the s3 or s4 and if downloadable updates are another option... without flashing anything or going to crazy.
Thanks again in advance.
Hi!
I have the SGP311 with the 4.2.2 Version of Android. Back then I rooted it using the tool VRoot (i think that was the name).
As all I wanted was root for TiBackup I left it at that. Stock ROM, some modifications through root access, but I saw no need to go further.
I would now like to update. OTA does not work, either because I am root or because the bootloader unlock (which I think happened during the root process).
There are so many guides out there, some contradictory or rather relying on going from certain versions to the newest.
What is my best bet?
Unroot and Relock, OTA update, then re-root? Is there a Guide to that?
Or how do I get a recovery on there easily? Guide?
Then assuming I have recovery on, what do I flash. Sony has grown on me, so I am happy with a stock rom or something very close to it, if I can root it for my mods.
What is the least dangerous way to get this tablet up to date?
Thanks for your help!

Vroot would not have unlocked the tablet's boot loader, so are you sure it is unlocked? And have you tried using Sony PC Companion to update the firmware? I was going to recommend trying to use Sony Mobile Update Service, which I preferred over PC Companion, but it appears Sony stopped supporting it.
So long story short. I got this phone 12/20. I stump rooted it, and noob move took the ota to zv6. Lost root as we all know. Thing is I opened root check by mistake the other day and it shows as rooted. Just to see I tried to install super su, but it says binary not installed. Any ideas? The lg og was the first phone I played with and had it rooted and unlocked right after getting it. Never took an ota on that phone. This g3 is a bit of a different animal then I'm used too.

I think, it's not really rooted. If you do want to root, you can follow this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-lg-g3/general/guide-how-to-restore-sprint-lg-g3-ls990-t2852042
Sorry if this doesn't help answer your question.
Thanks. I've been thinking of trying the roll back to zv4. Unfortunately my wife went and bought an iMac and my PC is in the closet. I do have an old laptop lying around I might be able to try it on. Thanks.
I'm thinking its not rooted either because of zv6 breaking root. Thinking maybe its just a side effect of me taking the ota on a rooted device like I shouldn't have?
I read about trying to flash twrp with flashify just to see if it would take but scared to even try as I don't want to screw this phone up. I sold my og so I have no backup.

All you can do is flash back ZV4, use stump root to root again, flash recovery, then flash superuser. You can also flash the deodexed zv6.
Thanks. Kinda what I thought but figured it didn't hurt to ask.
Hi Friends,
Is it as easy as it sounds? Thanks in advance!
Depends on the phone and how/why it was unrooted in the first place.
Hi, Thanks for you reply. It would be because an app doesn´t support rooted devices and just decided to go back and wanted to know if in the future it was possible to root back. Its for a friend. Can the unrooting and rooting again be done with only those apps used to root your phone or do you have to use a PC?

A bit more info would be useful (device, software, etc.). A phone can typically be rooted again, unless it receives a software update that patches the exploit. Also, the root method may vary, but if you had to use a PC to root it originally, chances are you'll need to use a PC again.
Hi,
I have a Galaxy S3 with Android 4.4. oh I see, if you root in originally with pc and then unroot it forwhatever reason, those one click rooting apps are not going to work right?
So I decided to upgrade to Lollipop. Went to OF1 and unfortunately see now it's impossible to root/downgrade.
Even more unfortunately, I backed up all my programs and settings with TitaniumBackup. Now without root, and locked on OF1, am I essentially screwed on getting all this info back into my phone?
Yep, your screwed. There is a new hack but no one that I know of has exploited it yet. Lets hope for a new root method. I'm in the same boat as you..
