Galaxy Light SGH-T399N not reading any sim cards I've tried - Samsung Galaxy Light Questions & Answers

I just got a Galaxy Light for free that I am setting up for a friend, and right after I got it, I flashed it to TWRP, and put in Tiger Lily, then went to CM12. When I popped in her sim (ATT) It didn't do anything, and as far as teh phone was concerned, no sim card existed. I couldn't get into mobile network settings due to the "insert sim card to access network settings" error, except on CM12, where I got the "User does not have permissions to edit APN" message. I did eventually get a few codes to work and got to the basic service menu, where I could verify it was reading a radio. I have tried Tiger Lily, 2 different CM12 builds, and Stock 4.4.2, and it doesn't seem to read the Sim at all. Also, all builds except stock give a blank IMEI when I check it with *#06#. I am thinking it is unlocked, as i don't get a code request, and I swear it was on Boost when I got it, though it could just not be reading the sim. I tried a few other older Sim's, with the same issue, though I don't know if any were tmobile or metro variants.
I am downloading the 4.2.2 firmware now, to retry regionlockaway with the older modem, but, looking to see if anyone has any input on this. Any way to see if it is unlocked or not? I don't want to buy an unlock code if it is already unlocked, plus I can't get to any of the unlock screens.
Most of what I read is so old, that it doesn't apply, so updated info would be awesome. Thanks!

After downgrading to 4.4.2 (T399NUVUANK3_CL2903595_QB2893704_REV00) I did get the sim unlock prompt again. If anyone knows of any software unlocks, would love to know them, else gonna buty an unlock code if I can get a recommendation. Thanks!
For anyone needing the SGH-T399N stock firmware for the Metro edition, here is a link, as it was hard to find. I kept getting T-mobile versions, which will lock you at the boot logo.

[Q] T-Mo Vibrant SIM issue

Hello all
I recently got a great deal for a Vibrant (150$ contract free, looking brand new ).
I live in Europe and I already own a Galaxy S, so I thought "hacking" the Vibrand would be a piece of cake... well it wasn't Finally after reading a ton of stuff here on the forums I managed to beat it using Odin.
After finally getting root the first thing I did was to download Galaxy S unlocker from the Market so I could use it with a local SIM card... and it failed. The app couldn't find any codes? and neither the root or non-root method worked.
The Vibrant recognizes that there's a SIM card, and even asks me for a PIN on boot... then nothing happens. When I try to make a call, "Data network not available" is displayed.
The network here is GSM 900/1800.
I'm currently on the deodexed KB5 2.2 ROM flashed via CWM.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Hmm...I believe there was another method to unlocking it other than the Galaxy S unlocker program you have. It will require root which you have.
Search around the Vibrant forums, I think it was from at least a few months back.

Yes, I found it but I'm not sure wheter it's a lock issue (it said "no codes found") or I have to flash an European modem or something. I'll try it anyway and report any results.
No luck
All the methods work for 2.1 and I'm on Froyo KB5.
Plus it's not really an unlock code issue..
It's rather... the SIM card doing nothing.
- Is it insearted?
Yes
- Does the phone recognize there's a SIM card?
Yes
- If you have a PIN, does it ask for it on boot?
Yes
- Well what's wrong then?
I can't do anything else with the SIM... not even join a network
Did you per any chance lock your SIM card with a PIN code?
Cause if you did, it is asking for the code that you locked it with. . .
Try another, UNLOCKED SIM card just to be sure that's not the issue.
The phone SHOULD ask you for an unlock code only. A pin code request (unless you are reading the unlock code as a pin code) means the SIM card is locked.
The card was unlocked, I put the PIN on purpose later, just to see if it'd recognize that
Then what is the issue? Without the PIN, it recognizes the SIM and loads up fine but doesn't get on any network?
Yes!
And that way it's just a VERY overpowered iPod touch. Would be nice if I could actually make phone calls from it, but if not - whatever.
I remember anything above 2.1 theres an issue with the SGS unlocker on the market. I had to use a different method, and I don't remember where I received the instructions from, but I did find this for you on youtube. Please do watch the whole video as the person has the same problem, but runs you through the steps to unlocking by using a different method.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Swe5O5pChyo
gosh... no dice.
The phone never asks me for any unlock code, just stuck on "Searching"
Try a different modem. If not then try a different rom..may be?
Why not just odin back to stock, reroot, and try to unlock it before flashing a rom
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
Will try that in the evening and report outcome ^^

[Q] How to Force Sim Unlock Prompt

Hi there,
I rooted my phone. I've installed Cyanogenmod 7 and enjoyed it. However, it is SIM locked. I purchased an unlock code... but now I can't enter it.
This person had the same problem:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1313393
Cyanogenmod does not prompt to unlock even with a foreign SIM card.
The solution was to revert to a stock firmware. Which is great... except for the fact that my phone's model number is:
i5500m.
It's the dreaded Canadian version. I can't find firmware for it anywhere. I've tried Check FUS:
Product Code: GT-I5500YKMVMC
No firmware info retrieved for given data.
Generally it seems like I only have two solutions... and one failure.
The first solution is to find a stock firmware for this phone. Or receive a backup from someone who has the stock firmware with Clockworkmod.
The second solution is to enter the unlock code without the prompt. Is there a way, an app, or a hack to do something like this?
My failure is to accept that there's no reverting. But I don't really want to do that.
Oh, and thank you for welcoming me into your forums. XDA Developers is a really amazing site. I've thanked it plenty of times for saving my ass.
Thanks for your time,
Sacrosaint.
Your answer may be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1149110
Look closely at the latest changelog and notice that point 12 states -
"Network: SIM lock messages will no longer be ignored. This may help people who have problems using SIM cards that require a PIN unlock."
Good luck

Thank you so much! I missed that update by only two days. I'm sure this will help many people.
I'll edit this post with my results once completed.
Thanks again!
Sacrosaint.

Results:
So I updated the ROM. I did not do a data-wipe. I inserted a foreign SIM card. It says it's connected but I'm not getting any service... I don't believe it's unlocked, as I haven't entered a code yet.
Perhaps I should do a data-wipe and retry. I'll repost afterward.
---------------------------------
Potential Final Update:
Odd! I inserted a Rogers SIM card into my phone running CyanogenMod and although no unlock code appeared... it worked. Also known as: my phone is unlocked.
Some interesting thoughts concerning this:
My phone model is i5500m. It comes locked to Bell or Virgin Mobile in Canada.
Upon trying the bml5 unlock method, my code came up as "01234567." Others experiencing this problem concluded that the phone was hard locked.
However, it would appear that flashing this ROM effectively removed the SIM lock. That means that originally, the SIM lock was a part of the firmware. That is slightly scary. I wish I would have come to this conclusion earlier, however, as I paid a premium of $40 dollars to unlock it (at least I supported a local business.)
So: for i5500m or Canadian Samsung Galaxy 5 users to unlock their phones, they must simply root and flash a custom ROM. Originally mine was from Bell, and it has worked with a Rogers SIM card. I'll possibly update this tomorrow when I try the phone with a Koodo SIM.
Hope this helps someone out there.

Sacrosaint,
I have an unlocked GT-I5503YKAINU running baseband I5500LUYJP2 and ROM CyanogenMod-7.2.0-RC0-galaxy5-v1.9. I inserted a Virgin Mobile Canada SIM card and do not get Service. With a Rogers SIM card, I do get Service. I spoke to people at Virgin and they said it's because my phone doesn't support HSPA+. The reason it works with Rogers is because it supports GSM.
I'm wonder if there's a way to install the baseband firmware from GT-I5500YKMVMC and still use CyanogenMod-7.2.0-RC0-galaxy5-v1.9?

What the representative said was true.
Virgin is both HSPA+ and CDMA. The Galaxy 5 IS a GSM phone. Its radio will not work with other frequencies.
You will want to go with Bell, Rogers, Telus, Fido, or Koodo, the GSM suppliers, my friend.

"This SIM card is from an unknown source"

I've looked around for similar thread(s) but found nothing. I recently followed the instructions on this website-> "teambamf.net/index.php/topic/3528-guide-to-install-ics-ruu-and-firmware-windows/" and got the phone started up. Unfortunately since I'm not Verizon (T-mobile USA) I've been stuck at the "Activating" screen for hours now and it keeps saying "SIM card from unknown source". Any help to fix either (if not both of these problems) will be greatly appreciated.
P.S - tried rebooting several times and still stuck at the Activation screen after SIM from unknown source.
did you try to boot the phone up first without sim card? The phone by default is locked to cdma and you would have to manually change to gsm in order for it to work.
Try to boot up without SIM (and also any SD card. I had issue that my sd card has a rom in it and it won't let me to get any network data, so I had to erase the SD card and it work. So start without the sd card). Then setup the phone. Once it's setup, change the network to GSM and then shut down and put hte sim. See if this works.
I would suggest check out this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1421341
also, is your sim already activated? I am not too sure if you can use rezound ot activate any sim. if it is not activate, try to activate with a diff phone first and then put in the rezound afterwards.

If you have Verizon and a Verizon branded phone and are getting this message, you need to contact customer support.
hi I also have a htc rezound which presents me the same problem. I "ve tried everything but zero. Help me please. I just changed the rom to another rom-Business_ICS4.0.3_Sense3.6 fonctionnebien v6.3 and everything except the sim card side" This SIM card is year from unknown source " thank you.

Have you tried this solution: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1882355
Otherwise, the Business Sense ROM is based on stock, and this will happen on all stock ROMs, but it should not effect actually using the device... It would be best to move to a CM or AOSP based ROM.

[Q] Lost SIM Unlock after ROM install

So my mother-in-law has a Straight Talk SGH-959G. She needed to get it SIM unlocked, so she took it to a phone repair shop where it stayed for about a month. He successfully unlocked it, but the wifi didn't work, so he said he would fix it that day. When she got it back it still didn't work, so she gave it to me to fix. It looks like he installed an at&t rom, because it shows the logo when it boots up. However, the first thing that shows up when the phone turns on is that it is an i9100.
I figured the wifi would work with a different rom, so I installed this one (5.0.2 CyanideL for i777) and it works amazing. But every time it turns on, it asks for the SIM unlock code and doesn't recognize the SIM card. I tried a few different apps to get the unlock code, but none have worked.
Any ideas? Do I need to get it from another source, and if so, does anyone know someone that sells unlock codes for straighttalk phones?
Thanks!

If you didn't know, the rom is fairly new so bug like this could happen. Secondly, the rom is for i777 only, you have SGH-959G which they are not exactly the same. '
Try using this rom instead (if liquidsmooth has problems): http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2-att/development/rom-carbonrom-sgh-i777-sgh-959g-t2845008
or this one (use this one first): http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal.../rom-liquidsmooth-v3-2-sgh-i777-959g-t2865888
Sorry for taking so long...
Neither of those worked. They both optimized the apps and then rebooted to an infinite boot animation.

Thought phone was unlocked, but not....

Hey guys - so my brother-in-law gave me an 'unlocked' i717 that was running the stock AT&T Android (he says he was using it with another carrier). I did some research and used CWM to put CM Android 4.2.2 on there. Thinking I'm all good, I ordered a SIM card from Ting and ported over my Verizon number to it. I go to use the SIM card and the phone prompts me for a SIM unlock code! In doing some more research, I found that I should have a Baseband Version, but that currently reads as 'unknown'. I DO have a IMEI number, though.
So what are my options? I've found a few threads about flashing a radio, would that clear up the SIM unlock problem or just give me a Baseband version? Again, according to my brother-in-law he has used this on other carriers than AT&T.
Thanks in advance!
A modem flash and adjustment of your APN settings may do the trick....
Those two items are required for a carrier change...g
