Switch between Google Handwriting/Gboard when stylus is removed/inserted - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Guides, News, & Discussion

I found this old XDA article: https://www.xda-developers.com/how-to-automatically-change-your-keyboard-on-a-per-app-basis/.
It's not that easy to follow and Tasker UI has changed somewhat but it's still applicable and still works. I adapted the instructions and use the Tasker actions in conjuction with Note Buddy (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tushar.spen_helper). It works flawlessly.
Hopefully this will help someone else.

Android on Touch Pro, Viable Yet?

It has been quite some time since the HTC touch pro came and since the very beginning there was talk about running android on it. I mean I remember a month after the Touch Pro came out someone had Android running on it, although it was just a proof of concept and didn't have touch or anything working.
So how has is been coming? Is Android finally a viable option for the Touch Pro?
I mean I would love to try android on my phone, as long as it works with bluetooth and the hardware buttons...that's really all I need. I can manage without wifi, speaker, etc.

Sorry I didn't know about the wiki and I did do a search for android in the ROM development forum and didn't come up with much.
But I was just wondering what kind of experiences people have had with it and wether it has been working smoothly.
www.connect-utb.com
there you'll get newest android roms for diamond and touch pro

A) link is broken... please fix!!
link is fine, but it seems like connect utb is down. Give them until tommorow
Can somebody help me with a weird problem?
Everything boots up just fine, but when I follow the how-to for my mobile networking my hardware keys(home, back, dial & disconnect) won't work!
Does anyone have a solution for that?
edit: it seems to be that the home and dial key are also left and the back and disconnect key are acting like a right key
thx in advance!
You asked for an opinion right?
I did try the android ports, even tried the one that's more recent but I didn't find them usable. They're too complicated and things don't work as expected. Maybe in time they will create a usable port for the touch pro but by then I will want to change my phone...I'm considering that right now too...
BUT. Some quality work has been done and it is a really cool experience. I appreciate all the work that has been put into that project.

[App] Flashlight application for Defy

Hi all,
I made a flashlight application for Defy. Check it out...
MyTorch
QR Codes for Market and AppBrain are attached.
[WiZarD]
The non-root method doesn't work here (Barebones 1.5.1 mod). The root method does.
I checked the Barebones 1.5.1 thread. It seems some users are having issues with the camera. If you have a camera related problem then non-root method will not work as it uses camera related APIs to get the flashlight on.
BTW: I use CM7 b6 and this app works fine on that.
Well, I don't have camera problems. It takes pictures, it records video. And before seeing this thread, I had "Search Light" installed which also uses the camera API, and it worked.
Well, could still be Barebones related. In which case, Barebones users should then opt for a different torch app (it's not like there's a shortage of those in the market ) or use the root method. I will keep MyTorch, the root method works great.
nice app. would be great to have a widget for easy access
Cool app, \ty

Or well... I can try to fix that for Barebones. I am working on a fix, will update soon.
The problem is I use my personal phone for personal and dev use... so I can't keep switching ROMs but I'll try to solve that issue.

Thanks. Ok. I will try to provide a widget in an upcoming release.
Just what I was looking for, looks good.
Thanks
Good app, easy to use and helpful, thanks a lot.
Thanks bro, i use FlashLight but don't like, this is a great app.
Update announcement - Widget support
Hi all,
I have updated my application with Widget support as requested by some users.
Lots of code changed. Let me know if you are facing any problems with this version.
Please let me know details of the issues as well via the e-mail address mentioned in Market.
Thank you for supporting my application by using it. It feels good.

[Q] Suggestions for Smart Actions Replacement?

My Verizon GS4 was delivered on release day and I've never fallen in love with a phone as fast as I did this one. However, there is only one app that makes me sad that I had to give up when I left my Razr Maxx behind and that was Smart Actions.
I've tried Tasker and Phone Weaver and yes I'm a smart guy and can eventually figure out how to set up profiles, tasks, scenes, etc. But I just simply don't have the time. What I really miss about Smart Actions is it had several predefined sets of rules already built in but gave you the flexibility to tweak to make them suit your use. It was very simple to use and extremely quick to set up.
I tried porting over the Smart Actions apk from my Razr to my GS4 but as I'm sure you already know that didn't work.
Has anyone had any success with other similar apps, or maybe even knowledge of pre-built templates that could be downloaded and imported into either Tasker or Phone Weaver?
I would be eternally grateful.
You could try Settings Profile from Google play.

Try Llama in the Play Store. It takes some setup but it's very easy and works great.

I've been using Llama for about two years. Great app - does everything I need it to, and not as complicated as Tasker.
Thanks for the suggestions. I'll try both and report back on my experience with each in case other readers have the same questions.
I appreciate it!
Automateit
I spent several hours playing with Tasker and while it is very powerful, there is also a learning curve with it. My grandson told me about Automateit Pro ... within a few minutes I had duplicated what I had been using in SmartActions on my new Galaxy S5. For me anyway, it is much more intuitive than Tasker and I like it better than Llama as well. I believe there is a free version as well as the 'pro' version ... more options available in the pro version.

[Q] Trouble with GMD gestures

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.goodmooddroid.gesturecontrol&feature=nav_other#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDYsImNvbS5nb29kbW9vZGRyb2lkLmdlc3R1cmVjb250cm9sIl0.
I use GMD gesture control fine on the nexus 4, however there seems to be lots of glitches when using it on the tablet z.
It mostly doesn't register the multi touch gestures and when it does, it activates the wrong action.
Anyone else tried GMD gestures?
Is there a similar app that I can use instead?

Acer A500 owner here (dropping by to check out the Tablet Z support on here). I'm a big fan of GMD GC, and back in the early days, Stupididea (the dev's XDA username) fixed every complaint we had. I suggest letting him know what's up. Unless the process has changed, he'll require a bit of info about the device (he has instructions) and then he'll push an update to fix it. You can email him at his Play Store email, PM him here on XDA or leave a post in the app's XDA thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1535740
In my experience, he's been incredibly helpful with stuff like this. Best of luck!

Anything resembling Moto Voice in this phone?

I'm interested in buying this phone but since I've been using a Motorola for two years, I got used to Moto Voice. This app can dictate sms to me, via bluetooth, while I'm in my car and I can choose to answer it using voice recognition... I was wondering if there's anything similar on the LG G5 or any way to make it work like it does on a Motorola phone?
I think I found an elegant solution, someone made a script which you can install in Tasker, instructions are here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/u/tasker-tips-tricks/guide-read-sms-aloud-respond-voice-t3311226

I had trouble with that profile I downloaded from XDA so, I decided to create my own homebrewed Tasker profile. It's not as hard as I thought it would be. Here's the link to the xml file I created, if you want to download it: https://www.dropbox.com/s/p3iz5di8u4z4sd7/Android_auto.prf.xml?dl=0 . All the strings are in french because it's my main language but, you can easily change them so that they fit your own language. So far, using Tasker doesn't appear to affect battery life that much...
