Where is the EFS partition for Redmi Note 4 (nikel)? - Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 Questions & Answers

I would like to make sure I get a usable backup of the EFS partition from my Redmi Note 4 MTK (nikel), but I cannot figure out which partition it is. I've seen the long list in TWRP, and tried an app from the Play store, but nothing looks like a modem or an EFS partition.
Can someone enlighten me on which are the needed partitions for this important backup? Thanks!

EFS Backup with TWRP?

Hi!
Today i will switch from HTC One S to an I9300.
Can i Backup and restore the EFS Partition with TWRP and do i have to restore the EFS Partition after flashing a custom rom?
On my One S i´ve deleted all partitions and the flashed a custom rom but on that phone i did not have to backup any efs data.
thx in advance!

You can backup&restore /efs with TWRP.
You should only wipe partitions, offered in TWRP, before flashing another rom. You mustn't restore /efs afterwards. Generally avoid any actions on /efs /dev: high chance of brick of losing your IMEI.
I've seen that there are different tools for backing up EFS partition but using TWRP looks like the easiest way to me....
Afaik these tools don't store anymore than TWRP. So keep it easy. But forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=56492632&postcount=15 @billa says, that this is no 100%-insurance: IMEI would be saved in dev-partition.
Lost EFS

What exactly is EFS? I have rooted all of my phones for like 6 years and have never seen EFS mentioned. Just curious?

When you create a backup in your custom recovery you have the option of checking off the partitions you want to back up. Such as system, cache, data, etc...one of the options usually the last one is efs. The first thing i do with every phone i root is back up the efs by it self. If you ever have issues with your imei, efs restore will most of the time fix it. It contains your imei info. Very important.
I have a problem with my Note 5 (N920C). I flashed my phone with official rom without backing up the efs files. And the GSM Network is gone now. Can this tool help me to restore the efs file ? any idea ? Thanks

[Q] HOW TO__ EFS Backup

Can someone tell me how to take a reliable efs backup (on Oneplus X), from which one can restore the partitions safely in case some thing goes wrong?

you need twrp recovery(or anyother recovery) for that. Go to backup option, select EFS and swipe to backup.

You can use TWRP like mentioned before. Or if you first root your device you can use an app like Partitions Backup & Restore in the playstore . And select all things that start with modem. I can also recommend to make a full system backup before flashing any other rom including the persistent partition. Last but not least please put those backups on a computer or on a cloud device. Because the microsd or the internal storage can always be deleted by a fault.

You require a genuine IMEI number, otherwise the phone will not work. So what will you do with dummy data?

How do I actually make a functional TWRP backup?

I have never managed to make a TWRP backup that is actually bootable... No matter what combination of partitions I pick, when I restore the backup it never boots. Am I just dumb or is that a Poco specific issue?
Arey you sure you backup, system image and vendor image and not system and vendor

So I should NOT restore System and Vendor partitions? Do I need to flash the ROM first and then restore on top of that? Should the restore look like this? https://i.imgur.com/QW8NmzG.png
I have the same problem.
I do not know what to select to make a backup, in my other phones I selected everything and made a correct backup, but if I select now a whole ROM of 5GB weighs 12GB
Can someone tell me that I should select to make a backup of the installed ROM with my APPS, regards

My screenshot above worked and restored just fine. Just make sure you disable any lockscreen before backing up!
