Just got my hands on an LG G5 RS988 (unlocked) and found there is a verified method to root it. Unfortunately, there don't seem to be any custom roms available for it at this time? Such a shame, as other versions of this same phone have plenty. Since the rooting method was posted all the way back around the beginning of April, I wonder if it's ever going to get any love. Anyone know if I should abandon all hope or if there might be some new developments?

And you are sure this works with the RS988, specifically? There are a lot of roms for the G5, but this is the newer unlocked model that came out a few months ago. That's great if it does, though! I just want to make sure I don't **** up my phone...

You have an older paranoid Android ROM and a relatively new resurrection remix build. Quick charging doesn't work and there's a lil problems here and there but other than that it's daily driver ready.

Well, everything looked good until I noticed that the roms were all marked as being for the H850, and I have an H820. Are they interchangeable? I searched for the H820 and got no results.
No they're not interchangeable.
Also, FWIW, RS988 is not a new model, it was released last year as well.

Is it possible to totally remove all T-Mobile branding and simply flash the stock ROM (where to find?), which the unbranded LG V10 has, so as to get OTA updates directly from LG and not having to wait for T-Mobile? (My V10 has no SIM-Lock)
Turn a branded V10 into an unbranded V10...
Has anyone seen a thread or website with instructions?

The problem with this is, the unbranded models are European /Asian market phone, which more than likely won't work on t-mobile network, but there is this really cool thing I do, which is called "Uninstalling apps" or "debloating" which gets rid of all tmobile related apps and bloat... So it's just like an LG phone then...
And to flash such a rom you would have to be unlocked, with a custom recovery which keeps you from getting OTA updates anyway... So I guess to answer your questions, no, no, no, no, & ummmm no.
Common sense isn't all that common...
My ROM is as close to unbranded as you're going to get. You can find it in the Android Development section.

There is nothing I want to do today, that I can't achieve with a few tricks. I'd like to play with Doze, maybe get the fingerprint reader to improve. Its already the best portable music server, I've ever used. I can access my work network and my home pc smoothly. The T-Mobile stuff doesn't bug me that much. Their network doesn't suck compared to my previous phones (going back 10 years). So..... patience is rewarded or I can jump to the Galaxy 7 edge in a few months.

First off let me say I've been a part of Xda for a while and I can't build a rom so no need for the chastising replies. I recently purchased my rs988. I see for research it took a while to be able to unlock bootloader. How come there really isn't any development for this model? I bought it unlocked because I thought it would be easier to make ROMs. Anybody got some insight I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g5/development/light-patch-t3609676
here are 2 roms if you want to make it your "own style" use light patch, third thread.
Fulmics dev had asked for rs988 testers months back he has also been busy with college which is stated a few posts above your request on his thread.
Use the "thread search" option and type in rs988 you will then see anything related to that model and see the questions already asked.
We don't want to be all asking the same questions. If you think it's hard to port a rom to a phone you have try doing it for a phone you don't own.
All the work is done for free with more complaints than thank you's.
Fulmics is compatible with the rs988 but is commented out in aroma "probably for a reason". (that's the ROM i would like to see most on the rs988).
i used AOSPA rom with light patch and had great results but lost video calling on verizon so I switched back to stock.

Yeah I'd like fulmics. Asop ROMs are better suited for Nexus and pixels
Just happened to stumble over here. I was pained to see the lack of development as well, so I got off my bum and made an unofficial build of LineageOS 14.1 for the RS988!
Fulmics was the first ROM that I installed when I got my H830. I switched it out for a RS988 barely a week later (T-Mobile locked my H830, grr), and I miss my LG Remote app now.
I'll sign up to be a Fulmics tester.
Got an update last night, Just a security patch it seems. S2BRB ~126mb.
I was so excited when I checked and it came back with one at 2 am, then the let down lol

Seriously, who cares... Samsung branded phones are light years ahead of "stock Android" anyway. That's why stock Android has slowly been adding OG Samsung features into stock Android.

Yeah. Security updates till November, Official updates are no longer given out to the 6p.
Time to get a new phone. May I suggest LG V30 found it to be pretty close in size. Performance is great as well as battery. The only issue one might have is the LG UI but it's not that bad.

I tried a G6 and their UI is kinda meh also a ton of bloatware. I'm going for Android one and gravitating towards a Nokia 7+. Android one comes close to the Nexus experience.

Always unlocked bootloaders, but i don't like it when i first have to remove bloatware and fiddle around to get the stock UI running. There are always seem to be some minute differences to stock
That's old news bro.
And secondly this is a Nexus phone.
It will never stop getting updates the difference is you will have to update it by yourself.
In case of buying the phone , will i still be receiving the (monthly) google security patches or will i have go for a custom rom?
Regarding the european variant models , single or ds .

If you want regular software updates,lg isn't the Phone for you.
But custom ROMs are great here.

Well, enterprise recommendation means updates atleast every 90 days...
the European H930 (single sim) has that, its usually every 2 months (even though some updates, like the january one were quite delayed, dont know why)
dont know about official OTAs for the H930DS though

There are a lot of good roms for the Phone. But you should worry about which ROMs to flash after you actually buy the phone.

Yes, it's still on the list. As @SGCMarkus points out, that means updates at least every 3 months -- not every month. Sometimes it's been faster than 90 days, but that's the requirement, as well as one major Android letter update. Pie will be that one.
The only reason V30 got on the list with Nougat was because of the "imminent" update to Oreo. Only Oreo phones could have have Enterprise Recommended status. Once we got on Oreo, then the updates have come every 2 or 3 months -- as that was when the Enterprise Recommended requirements kicked in.
Thanks everybody, u have been most helpful !

Yes, the Pie Upgrade debacle threw off the updates schedule.
LG expected to have Pie rolled out before end of June.
