Is turning the phone on vibrate or silent the only way to silence the sound?
Yes
? I figured it would have a setting in camera for shutter sound on /off? Odd

If you got your phone from south korea, there's no setting to turn it off. It's a law here, every phone that's sold in Korea has to have shutter sound. This is to prevent perverts to take upskirt photos of women

Other countries have similar laws. So it becomes a toss up if you buy international.

What happens during video, it emits a constant buzzing sound?
For the video, there's that regular video recording start sound, nothing else

I fail to see how privacy would play into this. Anyone that wants to take a picture silently can still do so by disabling their sound. Purposefully not including a separate option to disable shutter sound solely serves to make things more difficult, not protect anybody.
You could just load Open Camera from F-Droid and get not only the ability to turn off the noise, but a lot of other settings as well.

How do you disable sound ? you mean silent mode
Won't work
But that mutecamera (no spaces between the two words there) by SangGwon.Park app does. On my v20 which amazed me. Had given up on the G4 because root was not possible.
Free for only 15 pics though. If you watch some ads you get 15 more free, write a review, another 15. Don't know whether paying gets rid of ads. Can anyone confirm ?
It gets accessibility so whether its a security risk is for you to determine.
I downloaded a (paid app) called "SilentMode". It can actually mute any app, not just the (stock) camera, but it works well. Pixel Camera has the option but if you want the stock one for all it's features, this is a good option.

Yes, that's the one.
Actually, it's pretty cool, because what it does is mute an app's oral notifications without touching any other apps or the system. I use another app called Kijiji, it's a local classifieds - it defaults to the system notifications so if sounds are on, you get a sound notification. Well, I just want a visual notification for Kijiji...so this app can help.
Reduce the phone volume
You can reduce the volume of mute the phone and it works. So simple I didn't think about it at first. Tested in an European LG V30

First of all, you should probably know:
- It is rooted
- I renamed the camera click .ogg sound files using ROM toolbox pro, but the camera app still makes the shutter sound
Is there any way to disable the camera shutter sound? I've been scouring the internet for solutions and thought rooting my phone would do the trick, but now I can't seem to be able to even accomplish this task with root. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated, thanks in advance guys
in many states its against the law to disable the shutter sound, so someone knows when you are taking a picture of them..most roms do not allow you to turn this off, but, some do..

Its a huge problem in Japan. Its called "up-skirt". Creepy guys taking pics of ladies panties on the sly. Hence no removing shutter sound. Then again who's gonna notice if you record video? Nonetheless illegal. Check your local laws but I doubt if anyone can definitively give you an answer

Ok, here's the elephant in the room. People are up in arms about Kingo root because it's an unknown and they're afraid it'll send information back to them. Yet, this "camera silencer" app is just a download without any transparency t all, not through the Play store and we're supposed to just trust that it doesn't gather up a lot of stuff and send it back home? Crazy.

The difference is this app has source codes on the same page, you can read them, compile your own APK and install it.

It definitely disables the camera sound, however after a while it reenables certain options i prefer to keep disabled. Primarily the touch sound (every time you touch the screen it makes a sound).

So I just noticed that if I have google now from any screen enabled, I cannot record videos. They just crash when I press record. When I turn off google know from any screen it records fine..anyone have similar problems solutions?

I think I've seen some similar reports around here, with Google Now working anytime conflicting with this or some other audio functions. No other work around I know of, aside from turning off the option like you did.

I know I've seen this so I just tested it...
When I record a video, I get a message that another app is using the microphone, and it will be terminated. Then the video records audio as expected.
ATT rooted stock 4.4.3 with HK mod, google now voice detection anywhere enabled.

I'm only guessing its a direct result of HTC messing with what are normally standard Android apps, such as the camera (and making them proprietary).
HTC's customizations are certainly polarizing, some hate them, some love them. While I personally like most of HTC's changes; on the other hand you have to expect they will break something along the way.
Hello,
I saw a similar thread on this but no answer. I have disabled the main camera app shutter sound but third party apps still make the sound. It's pretty annoying. This is my first time using MIUI, so I guess it's a Xiaomi thing. I am rooted, so even if someone can point me to the right files to delete for Instagram and Snapchat, that would be really helpful.
Thanks!

Can't you make your phone silent or DND when you're using these apps.
You could program Tasker to make your mobile go silent temporarily while using these apps.

That's the thing, even when I silence my phone or turn on DND, these third party apps still make that camera shutter sound. I am guessing I have to manually remove the media files for these apps.

Maybe this issue is exactly like how someone was unable to mute notification sounds from WhatsApp in silent\dnd. Search for that thread.
I just installed an update from tmobile something about bug fixes and security . Sorry was to busy to write down the details but hope it fixes the phantom touches..
UPDATE 2: Oh no, it actually made the phantom touches worse, now instead of just the top section where you have the camera droop the thumb coordinates would trigger buttons on that spot, but now with the update, according to the touch sensors from developer options it shows the left and right touch coordinates will trigger even more around the screen. I think it just broke this phone.
Can anyone pls confirm this. The update has made the phantom touches worse and now my phone is unusable to play games because it always triggers buttons I don't touch when I make certain movements playing the games or apps

Thanks, I tried. Even had the phone replaced. T-Mobile thinks it might be the provisioning on my account, but I don't buy it since Google messages works. But I'm stumped, I can't even send a simple meme to someone on the stock app. I just says sending forever and never goes. I've tried wifi, 5g, 4g, resetting apn settings etc... Craziest dam thing

Please enable developer options and then enable the two options, show touches and show touch data. On my V60 when I hold the phone horizontally as if to game using my left and right thumbs the touch data will show lines intersecting for each thumb press and the coordinates where the lines touch will show a circle indicating that point will trigger any onscreen button that it will touch. Can you pls try this, so I can see if I have a defective V60. Thanks

I get errors with screenshots that say can't send, then I retry and am presented with 2 options, retry with original size or send as MMS. The photos always go thru when I choose MMS. However, I have an issue with stock as well. Can't attach a gif, only sends a link, and no notification in AA unless it's a short code message. I'm getting real tired of having to switch to 3rd party to do those 2 things and then back again to see typing and delivery indicators and faster photo sharing.

The stock app is definitely much nicer then it used to be. I very much prefer it over Android messages when/if it's working. Thankfully like I said it just happened to start working for me again. Maybe it's just TMobile and google ironing out all the kinks who knows.
