Could anybody please try to add more than 1.000 characters to the Contact Notes Field and try to sync in back to Google Contacts?
I still have the Huawei Mate 8, which has that problem since Nougat. The Huawei Mate 9 has similar problem, not sure what Mate 10 will bring. The problem is described in more detail here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-8/help/notes-field-contacts-app-displaying-t3418753
Or here:

I'm thinking to switch to LG V30 or Pixel 2 XL, just because of my Contact data getting truncated and lost.
Could anybody please check, if there appears an obvious limit in the notes field within Google Contacts?
Thanks!

What they heck are you putting in there?!? It's called a note field for a reason, not a novel field.
I have over 4.000 contacts migrated through different technology/systems over the last 20 years of my life with corresponding updated information and contact notes for most of them. Some with more some with less detail.
But I'm not the problem. The vendors are who restrict it voluntarily. Since Google, usually LG, Asus or other vendors don't restrict/destroy basic features which I learned to rely on since years. And which get truncated with occurring data loss when edited locally on the device and synced back into my Google account.
For sure I want to make sure it works, before sinking money into a new phone...

If the car is too small, get a van.
If the contacts apps don't work right, find a more appropriate tool, like a DB of some sorts, and sync it with Syncthing.
Trust me, I'm looking for a tool like that already years. Easier said than done.
Anyway, it would be awesome, if one of you answering here, simply copy/paste the text below into the contact notes files of a new contact and add a few characters, just so I know, if it works short term or cuts added characters off.
Maybe just add a row of 'aaaaaaaa' or whatever and try to sync, just to see if it gets truncated or not. Thanks!
Here we go, simple as that, 1.000 characters contact notes field test:

I just found this thread. But I did some checking on my new LG V30+ just purchased and found that it will display a total of 1,971 characters in the note field of a contact. But if you press the edit icon you can then view up to 10,207 characters. This is still too few for my previous contact database. My ZTE Axon 7 phone also displays 1,971 when viewing but will show in edit mode up to 23,522 characters I have in one contact note. I hope this helps some of you with your purchase decisions.
Thanks, I purchased about a month ago now the Huawei Mate 10, even though it has the same restrictions like previous models. My previous model Mate 8 broke, so I needed an immediate replacement.
The V30 is only now becoming available in countries around me.
Also the Pixel 2 or other close to Google standards weren't available yet.
So I'm still looking for a midterm alternative or perspectivly a different solution for the contact fields problem. Like either a separate app that handles contact information, ideally something that could migrate my older contacts.
Anyway, thanks again for your answer, even though too late for me... [emoji6]

I new to this group, but just like you all i am also experiencing problems with my XDA.
When sending and email or SMS with I select a name form my addressbook;
in case of an SMS when I click (touch) the name it paste the email address , instead of mobile phone number; and when I want to send an email it paste gsm numbers or others.
Do you recognise this problem and have you got an answer?
Thanks!
No, same problem here.... no solution yet
Phil
hello All,
Can somebody tell me how can I enter two mobile phone number for one person in Contact ? Because I want to chosee one to send a SMS to him but I only can enter one . If I type the number in other field, I cannot get it from the Send list when I try to send SMS . It's a very interesting problem. Anyway, I can enter two in my Outlook . But I lost after Sync-
Thx
Li
You can try to type the phone number in email2 or 3 field.
You can try to type the phone number in email2 or 3 field.
Have you tried the "car phone" field? It seems that should allow you to send SMS.
I tried and failed!
I add a new mobile phone number in Car phone but I failed to find it in SMS list. So it seems I have to create a same name entry in Contact list and separate to save different mobile phone number
Thx for your advise
Li
Then put it in one of the mail fields. It will show all three e-mail fields in the SMS send list.
you can try to add mobile2 field, in outlook,
sencronize, and see if it adds the tab in your mobile.
Hello!
I have this weird problem with my Galaxy SII that I can't reply to some contacts SMS. I've noticed that in theese cases the sendres phone number is like this: ,+XXX XXX XXX notice the "," before the numbre. And the phone says; Invalid recipients entered.
I can reply by makeing new message and adding the contacts number again and the thread is showing ut niceliy but I can't reply directly.
It only heappens to few certain contacts.
Any ideas?

So the actual problem is "," . When you are sending SMS to two contacts, then your format should be like :
+XXX XXX XXX,+XXX XXX XXX [Notice the "," between the numbers]
For sending to a single contact :
+XXX XXX XXX ie. You don't need any "," , while sending SMS to a single contact .
Hope this solves your problem .
I can't delete the "," that's the problem. Its just there. Its not in my contact profile, it's in the sms application. Please see added picture.
If I compose the text and push send it says Invalid recipients entered
If I go to new message-> add recipient and find the same contact from my phone book then I can send the SMS eventually but that pretty annoiyng.

Anyone?!
Have you tried to Note number down and remake contact.

Hey!
Yeah, I tryed that.
Now I deleted the contact and also deleted all the SMS history and everything related to the contact and remade the contact and now it seems to work.
It really sad about the lost history dough

Happy days. Glad you sorted it out
Hey,
So basically I can't send a message to anyone with a space in the number
so if its +44 7900 000 000 or +44 7900 000000 it will refuse to send it ?
Whats up with that
How do I file that as a bug ?
gonna install Textra for the meantime

My contacts get formatted phone numbers by the Contacts app and spaces are there (not inserted by me, but by the system) and all works just fine.
I found that in my COL-AL10, it just field "name" in contact editor, which actually "firstname" field.
I couldn't find field lastname.
Can we add first and last name using default contact editor?
