Rooted Users Share Your Bettery/Performance Setup - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Guides, News, & Discussion

I'm interested to hear what apps, profiles & settings you are using on your Note 8 for best battery life and performance.
Lspeed Settings, Greenify, Kernel settings, etc. :good:

Using nothing. I usually end up finishing the day with 30-35% anyways usually. No big deal. 3-4hr SOT.

For the first time I have not found any read to load a custom kernel or any app to tune the kernel. This things flies as is so have no need to mess with anything.

when i root, i like to flash and go kernels, i hate having TOO many kernel options. just optimize the stock kernel and gimme a go

Which ROM do You use?

Hello everyone,
I decided to create this topic, to clarify things for newer people, or just look at others preferences and opinions for others.
Tell everyone what ROM/Kernel do you use and why? Why it fits you the most? What makes you to use your certain combination?
Is it eXistenZ, is it PureX or Pheonix or even AOSP? Tell us!
i use the stock ROM debloated with multirom installed.
(CM12.1 is installed as secondarh rom)
i use stock because of its stability and features and i use CM as a second ROM because it acts as my utility OS, i use it as a management tool for my network

Thanks for your answer.
What do you mean by "management tool for my network" . I mean I understand the sentence, but can you explain more?
And by the way, your stock ROM is rooted and debloated by some scripts or just with titanium backup etc. Do you use greenify, xposed and so on?

I use CM as a Management tool because it allows me to do more things with less issues over stock
i run ubuntu 15.04 with the Kali Linux toolbox installed and as well as that its easier to use CM as i have modified my CM rom to not have anything except for the things i use
as for the stock rom i have removed any useless bloat apps and i have xposed installed with a few xposed addons to make using the device eaiser (i used a flashable zip to debloat which can be found in the cross development section)
for example i have no screenshot delay, mobile radio fix, youtube background play and a couple of other minor tweaks from xposed installed

I use Pure X v8.The rom is full debloated with some mods and he works fine.V9 is much modded but has huge battery drain.
When I am only on wifi I get up to full 48 hours with 6 and half Sot with sinhronisation, location, auto brightness,3g network only and some listening of music and voice calls.

What mods do you use? Do you use greenify, amplify? What do you think about installing v10?
I use miui on kitkat.
To make a perfect screen off time I had to freeze the gallery app and I'm using power nap + ds battery saver.
That's the reason I stick to kitkat, because it has awesome battery life (in standby mode) + miui doesn't get so leggy after some time as stock kitkat.

May i ask if it's normal that i get less than 4 hours SoT time with my xperia Z2?? i'm full stock in everything since i am little afraid to root.
That happens while i have always STAMINA mode ON with few apps active(Viber,What's up, NO FB MESSENGER, etc), sync on, brightness always less than 50%, and always wifi or 4G on. Also how much battery draining is caused from games??
Any advices?

Most of my SOT is due the fact that i really dont have that many apps on my phone
I also turn off some cpu cores and even limit my gpu but the screenshots from below are with my system not limited

Hmmm then you suggest not to have useful apps and some games in that beast of mobile phones?? Hmm it's strange.. Will try the device
as soon as it comes back from service and see what's going on just with few apps. Of course with no root.
I've always stuck with Sony stock rom, rooted and debloated in the past. But recently I've tried existenz 4.5.2 and absolutely love it. It's fixed some of Sony's stock rom bugs, plus plenty of additions and goodies. It really is an amazing rom. Haven't had any issues with it whatsoever.
I return from Pure X to stock latest and everything is perfect.I dont use even greenefy or titanium etc.
I just must to always have rooted rom cause after install I always must flash restore drm keys file, cause I unlock bootloader.
I have now 19h 13 min uptime with 4h 43 min screen on time and still left 46 percent.
Lollipop or kitkat?
Kitkat stock or kitkat miui?
Opinions, pros and cons?!

Do you use Stock or Custom Kernel(because you have BLU)?

Kernel Auditor settings for lag improvement

Since lag was quite bad upon rooting (at least it was for me, and I even did a full wipe and reset prior), the first thing I did was download Kernel Auditor and start tinkering with it in an attempt to reduce the lag and try to smooth things out. So far, my current settings are working quite well. It runs smooth and the lagginess is virtually nonexistent. It's not 100% perfect, but its damn close.
So here's a couple screens of my current settings, which are being set on boot with no issues. If I figure out a way to export profiles, I'll post that as well.
Please feel free to add onto, improve, elaborate, and/or talk **** (constructively). If you've found something else that has helped, let me know!
As always, I am not responsible if these setting, individually, together, or in any combination cause your phone to give you AIDS, explode, or cause any other undesired effect, up to and including instant super-death.

Just mirrored these setting and will follow up with any negatives. One concern is battery life with the CPU minimum set that high. How is your battery life?
I'm running Stock PF2 with root. Really wanted to run the unlocked rom and liked the peppiness of it, but use wifi calling through sprint at work a lot.
Have u found any further improvements to better battery life?.

Flash the 930U firmware. I was in the same boat as you. But I still have most of things I used while rooting: ad blocker; wifi tether; skip track with volume keys. The only that I miss is the youtube adaway, but I found an app on xda that mutes the ads and presses skip for you automatically. My battery life increased greatly and the phone was super smooth when I did this.

Pokemon Go Performance Issues - Overheating causing reduced Frame Rate & Crashing

I'll start off by saying I basically bought the surnia Moto E 2015 (xt1526) specifically for an affordable way to play Pokemon Go. When it's working it works quite well but when in very high particle effect situations such as Battling or Evolving Pokemon it will start to get very hot and then eventually the frame rate will drop and sometimes the app will crash. I've tried a few different ROMs (Cyanogenmod 13, ResurrectionRemix, Cypher) and all seem to have the same issue. The only Kernel I've tried so far are stock and Squid Kernel.
That being said though I've had some experience tweaking and trying to optimize phones for normal app and multitasking usage but I've no experience at all trying to optimize for gaming. If anyone has gotten this particular phone to run optimally without crashes etc while gaming would you kindly suggest the Kernel, Roms and/or settings I should use for doing so? I've seen that were some good gaming ROM's for otus but those seem to have not been brought over to the surnia.
TLDR: surnia xt1526 overheats plummets in FPS and crashes while battling in Pokemon Go, any help appreciated
Update: After trying many different suggestions though I'm sure they did help out others they did not work for me. My phone's GPU was overheating up to 62 degrees sometimes in particular while many people seemed to be tweaking their CPU's mine was still overheating and crashing with those tweaks.
So this is probably a YMMV thing but what finally worked for me was installing a kernel that had some good GPU tweaks and the one I found best so far has been Inazuma R5 it actually has the GPU's lowest setting underclocked to 100mhz, with 400mhz still being the max and also makes use of adreno idler to keep the GPU cooler.
So if you've been having these issues I'd suggest opening up Kernel Adiutor after your phone starts crashing and overheating and taking note of the temperatures. If it's your GPU look for a kernel with adreno idler. If it's CPU then you can go with some of the other suggestions below.
Edit: I want to be clear that this is mainly only a problem with BATTLE after 30-60 consecutive minutes in Pokemon Go (sometimes also with mass evolution because of the heavy animation effects during evolution) So please specify, if you could, whether or not you've had a stable battling experience for extended periods of time.
Ive been using CM13 and squid kernel r16g and had been experiencing lags in pokemon go until i tried out some settings in kernel auditor. In kernel auditor under the tab low memory killer scroll down and select 'very light' and disable adaptive low memory killer(the first option in the 'low memory killer' tab) and now switch the tab to 'virtual memory' and scroll down to the last option and set the memory limit to around 460-480mb. Now under the tab 'cpu-plug' disable the intelliplug switch and there will be an option called as touch to boost, you just gotta enable that(this option is a major player in making the game to perform well). So just try this and see if this works, it worked very well for, i hope it does the same for you.
P.S. This may cause your battery to drain more as you set ur phone to perform more, So after you finish playing the game set it to default.

A friend of mine tried playing this on stock ROM, frame drops lags and crashes all the way.
Havent quite used the stock rom lately....just been flashing roms quite frequently, so can't really say abt the performance of this game in stock And yes, a must try ROM recommendation for all you guys, playing pokemon go, wud be slim rom. Flashed Slim rom yesterday and found it to be light weighted ROM compared to many other roms n that too without a custom kernel. I tried playing pokemon go while in Slim and it worked just fine without lags or crashes. The only thing is that Slim is based on AOSP/CAF so features r limited unlike other roms.
it works fine on mine phone with stock 6.0 and squid kernel, I think that your lags are caused by ram hungry apps in background
ive bought three boost phones in the last couple of weeks just for spoofing devices, all running perfect. I pushed twrp 3.0.2, official cm13, and that's it.
edit: here is the full setup i used when flashing and unlocking/rooting from my google drive:

I don't know I'm not really running much in the background just Gmail and Telegram, as I'm playing more and more it seems like it starts to overheat then starts lagging after doing battles for about 20mins straight. I have to put it in front of a fan and let it cool off before I can do battles again. So I think it's just a hardware issue. Unless anyone else has been able to do battles for more than 30mins without running in to lag and crashing

Yes. The only problem I've been having is I think my spoofer is getting kicked out do to low RAM every once in a while and I've got to reboot it. Everything else is all good. I really love these phones.

Looking for a lightweight/fast ROM!

Hello dear community!
First of all: This is not the usual "What is the best ROM" thread. Its something different:
I have tried to compare a lot of ROMs from the XDA-Forum, and there are many awesome ROMs here. Unfortunately, I have yet to finde one which suits my special needs. Those needs are actually pretty simple (I guess )
The ROM should be VERY lightweight, not any Bloatware on it and only background processes which are really really necessary should run.
I do NOT need any visual or style improvements. It can be a VERY simple ROM, I don't care for any animation, color-customization or awesome theme. Also, I do not need any neat features.
I don't care about the battery life of my phone, but the thing is, that it should run as fast as possible with this ROM - thats why no background processes, bloatware or awesome looks which might slow things down. Fast and simple.
THANK YOU in advance for any suggestions.
Kind regards
"best rom" threads are not allowed on xda. I could recommend one that you might find totally garbage so there is no point.
Your choice, your problem.
Beamed in by telepathy.
This is not the usual "Give me the best ROM" Thread. I am looking for something pretty specific I guess. Like I said in my first post here: I am looking for a VERY lightweight ROM, which does not include and additional Apps or Bloatware - just the simplest things: a Browser, Clock + Alarm, Camera, Dialing-App, Contacts-App, Messages App (and this is basically it).
Kind regards
Try a CM ROM with pico gapps.
I tried many roms from this place so I can say that the most speed is Archidroid - https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/development/rom-archidroid-v2-4-6-power-hands-t2354859
Anyway, I use Crdroid v 2.1 with elite boeffla kernel and I did not install gapps. I prefer to install apps myself. Google play service take some ram but when i will install important for me apps i do not open this again. I use NovaLauncher on desktop and NowBrowser as browser. I have 478 mb used on desktop but I use many widgets, omniswitch, lmt but phone is speed as wind I use monochromacy style from developer settings.

I tried CM 14 (the latest Nightly), and it was quite nice! However, I wanted to try out new stuff, and I found out that ROMs can be quite a bit more faster - as I have seen in ArchiDroid. But there is that issue with the Boot-Loop which forced me to move away. Right now I am on Hyper Rom, and it seems to work quite nice, lets see if performs well or gets slow very fast.

I tried ArchiDroid for about a week. It was the fastest ROM so far, but unfortunately it gets stuck in a Boot Loop if I restart or Power Up the Phone. I always had to wipe Cache and Dalvik Cache to get it working again (and booting up lasts more then 15 minutes in that case, since it has to check all apps).
I might try Crdoid. Right now I am on Hyper Rom however. Lets see how this performs. THANK YOU for the suggestions!
Guys, if you find any other Rom which might be very lightweight and fast (and possibly without any major Bugs like ArchiDroid in my case), it would be GREATLY appreciated! )
Kind regards

Can someone explain certain options to me and their impact on performance?

Hey!
I've been using this application for a very long time now but I'm just interested into knowing a couple of things like what couple of options mean in practice.
Of course the best way would be to try them yourself but I have over 400 application so I guess it wouldn't really be that easy so that's the reason why I'm asking. I have just realized that there is an option to ignore the running state and I see that it has improved my phone's performance for like 50% for sure.
What do other options do like disabling long running service or hibernation mode?
I can tell you that I don't really care about anything else other than performance so should be fine for me to enable these options for every single application?
Thank you for reading!

S9 Plus running Noble ROM on Android 11.
hey,
well im not familiar with that ROM but right off the bat, u should see some performance improvements by using an "app manager" or "auto start" manager to curb the ram used by autostarting apps on your phone which sounds like the option ur describing, perhaps a tweak on ur cus rom. Next i would use something like Greenify with root access to hibernate or kill both user and some system apps that kill alot of battery and memory.
Using a global adblocking app on a rooted phone maybe another good idea and u can check out some posts on playing with your "host file"...
if ur die hard performance junkie...u can look into swapping kernels and such if its available. If you get into overclocking always watch your temp. Also all this is a very good way to brick ur phone or cause hardware failure, be careful, be warned, read lots, do once.
Hope this helps a lil bit atleast...
What about cutting " wakeup paths"?
I see they can make problem sometimes. I have ended up in bootloop couple of times so I just wanted to see what does this option do in practice? Will the change be written in data or system partition?
