i got an eris and no matter what rom (2.0/2.1/2.2/2.3) they all drop a call after about 8-10 minutes of talking... i have tried a different prl, and tried 3 different baseband versions, all still have the dropped call issue. and i have about 4 bars when it drops, so bad signal isnt the problem.
anyone know what could be causing this?
if not does anyone know if there is a log file or something that would say what caused the dropped call?
if there's something wrong with the hardware i guess i'm going to have to find a used moto droid to replace it

Is there one or two locations where you get more dropped calls than anywhere else, like your home, work, etc? Have you noticed what your signal is like before the call drops?
Are you sure your using your Eris and not an iPhone? No but seriously, I know you said you don't think signal is a factor but I believe it is. Either bad reception or faulty hardware.

i tried duplicating the dropped call while i ran alogcat, i had my gf's phone and mine just laying on the computer desk for over 45 minutes and it wouldn't drop the call >.< i even picked the phone up shaked it, slapped it, turned it... all to see if there was something loose inside and it wouldn't drop it...
ill just have to check logcat right after a dropped call and if logcat doesnt show anything ill be leaving htc and getting a moto =P
I have the same issue. I'm using CM7 v. 3.8

What area are you in? People are having service problems on inc as well and it was determined that it was the area they were in was having issues not the phones. I think they were in the Detroit area if I remember correctly and even people without rooted phones were having the same problems.

Reception difference when speaking on the phone is without question better. If we are talking data speeds I seem to get more bars but my speeds are still the same, really crappy.

I bought the Photon yesterday afternoon. While I was in Best Buy I had my Evo 4G and the Photon side by side and the Photon had 4 bars while the Evo had 2. Same with 4G. This morning while driving I had full reception (bars are so small I can't tell if there are 5 or 6) and my Evo had two. So by that guage the Photon does better. However, here in Indianapolis where there are three Clear towers but no official 4G yet, I could pick up a weak 4G signal in my bedroom and no where else with my Evo. I couldn't pick it up with my Photon.
Now - as for problems - I thought the phone was great until this morning when I couldn't hear anything on three separate calls. I restarted the phone and then could hear and be heard. Later on today it did the same thing until I restarted the phone. Also twice the phone was locked up - wouldn't wake up and I had to pull the battery and reboot. I'm probably going to return the phone to Best Buy. I don't know if I'll get another one or wait a few weeks to see if they get the bugs out (I've read about the locking problem on another forum so I don't think it's isolated).

I've only had two things happen consistently that have made me scratch my head.
One is that if a long enough time has passed that my phone locks with the security PIN, when I unlock it by entering in my PIN and hitting ok there is sometimes a lag before the phone opens up coupled with the dim screen from the lock screen staying dim for a bit. We're talking a few moments at most but noticeable on a phone that flies, otherwise.
Second problem I'm still trying to figure out - manifests when I'm using Glympse (location sharing app that shows your location/speed LIVE to someone else). I've been using this app since it came out - a long time ago. If you're not familiar with this app (it's AWESOME), when you're transmitting, your location arrow is green. If you're not, it's gray. If there's a problem with the transmitting of your signal or location, it's yellow/orange. I'm consistently finding that after initially sending and transmitting ok, if I check the phone 5 - 10 minutes later the arrow is orange and I cannot get it to transmit again. I'm putting this here as a bug because I believe it's a data handoff problem as the times I've seen this happen I had 4G on. I'll experiment more and report. Maybe using Pandora as I drive home this evening.
I'm having an issue with the camera. Even with manually adjusting the focus, have you noticed that this camera is particularly bad at taking close-up photos? My Nexus One never had a blurry or out-of-focus photo, but for some reason the camera on my new Photon takes crap pictures. I've even tried the macro mode and it still looks terrible. This is at about 4 inches away from the object being photographed. I tried in various different light settings too! No luck... I went back to the Sprint store and took some pictures with the demo units -- both of them exhibited the same issue.

I've had the Evo, Evo 3d and no the Photon and the Photon by far has the best reception hands-down. Not just the bars, but the actual signal readouts as well in opensignal or something similar. 3g data is much more solid/stable/quicker on this phone as well. The 3g radio on the 3d seemed to take a "nap" fairly often and just drag along in general.
Can't comment on the 4g though...I rarely ever use it.
It's really bizarre and irritating how if you have a screen lock set, the Photon will display both the regular lock screen with slide to unlock, and then the screen pattern lock.
Every other Android device I've ever played with, the screen pattern lock replaces the regular lock screen.
Have you tried holding the button til its focused? It auto focuses then doesnt snap the pic til you release the button. My camera takes awesome pics.
*just noticed the on screen button snaps the photo when you release the button. The physical snaps the photo after a second or so.

download this wallpaper (http://euphoricarythmia.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=5551&d=1308386199) and set your brightness to high then auto. Does the left side of the image loose it's detail?
Also, if you use the stock launcher and remove a shortcut does the icon look really crappy?

I am having the same exact problems. Didn't start happening until Day 3 of ownership. I can call, but lose all sound. The only way to fix was to turn it off and on, then its fine. I thought it might have been connection problems with the Air Rave in my home office, but had the same problem with it disconnected.
Sounds like with so many having the same issues these might be caused by 2.3.4 and not the phone hardware. I haven't seen an official bug list for this GB version.
Anyone confirm this? If so, then maybe an upgrade from Moto to 2.3.5 or whatever will be an easy fix if indeed there is one from Google.
The not being heard bug is the most discerning to me. Rest I can live with for now.

Exact same happened to me, but I can add that i think it does it after roaming, but I may be wrong. It's rather irritating; if it keeps happening I might go talk to Sprint.
i received 2 calls today, right in a row and couldn't hear anything on the other end.
rebooted my phone, and its working great again.
only thing other than that minor blip that i've noticed is streaming audio on my mlb at bad app. it sounds like the audio is on fast forward - skipping all over the place.
anybody else experienced anything like this with streaming audio? i used tunein this morning and noticed it very slightly as well.
I'm having the same phone audio issue as everyone else. My wife, who has the Photon, experienced it this afternoon. Hopefully someone finds the cause or a fix soon. Other than that, I love the phone!

Now you guys are worrying me. I'm not someone who uses the actual phone part of the phone a lot. I might use the phone to speak to someone maybe 2-3 times a day for a minute each, if that. In fact, I can go entire days without using the phone to make a call so if I've got these problems I likely won't see them manifest. Still, I don't want to experience them at all when I do.
Speaking of which, do any of you find the vibrate options for receiving calls odd? Under SETTINGS > SOUND > VIBRATE PATTERNS, there are four choices. "Dot vibe" is the only one that feels like that. It goes "buz buz buz space buz buz buz".
The "dash vibe" is like "buuuzzz buz buz buz buz"
The "Fast vibe" is almost worthless, going "bzbzbz"
And the "Long vibe" is anything but! It's seriously "buz bzbz bzbz".
I can barely feel any of these when the phone's in my pocket. Do you guys see the same types of patterns I tried to describe with my buz and bz's or is my phone vibrate jacked? I mean, I can't see how the "long vibe" can even be that - I expected the long steady vibrate at the very least.
I've been waiting for an excuse to try Sprint (from Verizon) and with the bad battery life of the 3DO and mediocre reviews I finally made the jump once people started raving about the Photon.
Here's what happened to me:
First picked up the phone, booted it up, went through the set-up questions, got to the "add accounts" set-up for email and social networking links and the phone froze - this is before I even got to the main screen. Had to take the battery out to reset.
I downloaded some apps, including the amazon apps, which it didn't like, and the phone froze two or three more times throughout the day. I also had spotty coverage, particularly at home in NYC. I did a data factory reset and the problems persisted. The next morning I went back to Sprint and tried to get a new phone figuring I might have gotten a dud. They didn't give me a new phone but the manager said it should've been turned on to accept Sprint only coverage and that was the problem. He fiddled with a couple other settings and now the reception problems are better. It still has crashed a number of times and I get FCs a lot.
I'm coming from an old BB Curve so this is my first true smart phone though I do have a CM7 Nook, which seems to be less buggy. I'm pretty disappointed with the bugginess but the phone still seems pretty cool otherwise. It seems to respond quicker than my Nook - which it should. I don't know what to think about 4G. Here in NYC it's pretty spotty for everyone that I know who uses Sprint so it makes me think that at this point 4G might be a waste. I also don't notice the Photon having any more bars than the people around me who have an Evo 4g and an Epic 4g. I can't help but wonder if I should've just stayed with Verizon and gotten a Droid X2 or something.
That's all I got for now.
** update - a couple of days later and Go Launcher installed. I'm very impressed. I love this phone. It seems to be stable at this point. I compared it's reception again, measuring its bars vs the Epic, HTC shift and Evo 4g and it was consistently better than those phones.

Ah, that does help the camera take its time to focus! Good job pointing that out - I probably would have never noticed it.
I still have artifacty/grainy images in lower light settings, but I guess that's the best I can expect from a cellphone's CCD. Here's to hoping one day my phone will take as good a photo as a point'n'shoot.

Are you calling using Sprint Airrave or anything?
No, just normal 3G service, not roaming, good signal strength.
If it's happening everywhere you go, in completely different locations on day 10, I would start looking into exchanging the phone.

I thought that also, tried moving my hand and on a long call they will repeatedly complain about it. Also thought might be ac vent from car blowig on it creating wind noise or something. I have gone through almost every posibility I can think of.
I had searched and could not find anyone else having the problem, guess it is the phone.
i have the same issue. i had it on stock rom too i think. had the phone for over a month, wonder if sprint will exchange it. if not i guess i can take it with htc.
Do you have a case on that's possibly messing with one of the 2 mics?
i do have the case on mine. ill take it off tom and see if same thing is happening. if im past 14 days do you think htc would work with me on this issue (replacement under warranty?)
I'm hoping it's something I'm missing in the set up or some minor other issue but after I finally got the DNA activated I made two calls.
Both calls were choppy on both ends of the call. This phone has gotten stellar reviews on reception quality. Volume and clarity.
I'm being told that the listener hears only bits and pieces of my voice and I hear the same from them.
All my other phones worked fine from my house where I made the calls.
Any thoughts on this from you guys on what might be happening?
Could something be defective on my DNA? Or does this sometimes happen with new out of the box phones?

If worse comes to worse (I'm hoping this is going to correct itself) can I return it to a local Verizon store for an exchange or do I have to ship it back to Verizon?
I'm going to try the store first on Friday (and I'd rather be shot then to do it on Black Friday).
Are you guys suggesting that this is probably a bad set?

I'm sure you can exchange in store even if you ordered online. Also, for what it's worth, my call quality has been very, very good. In fact, the clarity, at least on my end, has been noticeably better than the last couple phones I've had so if yours is really that bad when under ideal circumstances, that sounds like it might be a unique issue with your phone.

I don't want to leave this post without a follow up.
Yesterday when I (finally) activated my DNA: I then made two new voice calls.
As I stated above the calls were choppy and very bad on both ends.
I waited until this morning and made some more voice calls. Even from the same location.
All calls have been clear, audio R9, and more or less perfect.
I had forgotten that about five years ago also on a new cell phone: I had this same issue when activating and calling for the first time.
Nobody could hear me clearly and I could not hear them. The next day and forever after all was fine.
I am not a mobile device geek but I'm sure there is a deep dark explanation for this anomaly.
My son told me that I don't need to know what was happening yesterday but that today is what counts.
I still wonder.
The end result of this problem is that I did have a defective DNA device after all!
It did not fix itself, as I alluded to above.
The Verizon store gave me a new DNA and all is now good.
So.....for anyone interested, it is possible to receive a defective hardware (reception/radio/speaker/whatever) issue with this set.
At Verizon right now seeing if they give me an exchange on my DNA

Tell them that a new device should correct it. It did for me.

Just get a new set.....and walk away.
They wouldn't exchange it they couldn't get it to replicate the problem.

The problem is a fact!
Fortunately the employees at my store know me and know that I do not imagine issues.
A new DNA phone (for me) eliminated the problem.
When making calls you will hear the person you are speaking to clear as a bell.
But they are hearing your voice in the following manner:
1. Your voice fades in and out.
2. Some of your words are chopped out.
3. You sound to them like you are talking in a "tunnel".
Call Verizon and tell them that other buyers have successfully returned this set and the new one issued had no problems.
Get a new phone and don't settle for a HDC update.
Yes....some calls are fine. But I don't want "some" calls to be fine!
I want every call to be great on a new phone.

I'm not having any issues at all with call quality, but I have noticed that my touchscreen isn't nearly as sensitive as my Rezound was. I am constantly getting missed letters when typing on keyboard or having to double tap 3 or 4 times before my screen zooms. I'm thinking this is also a hardware issue and will likely try to get it swapped out soon. Has anyone else had sensitivity problems?
I need help... I keep getting told that the phone quality on the other end is just terrible that the other person just cant hear me at all. (That I sound like im in a tunnel and far away from my phone) I need to figure out a way to record the proof so i can take it to a verizon and get an exchange. Can someone or anybody give me any suggestions? I need help really bad.

Tell the store you want a new phone! Call them from another location and speak to the manager. Ask him or her how well they can hear you.
My phone was so bad that every call I made the receiving party noticed it dramatically.
Send me a PM and I'll identify the store or you can ship the phone directly to Verizon within your 14 day period for a replacement set.
Your phone is defective and it's not going to change.

To me it almost seems like a distance thing. If I call people that are in the same house as me it seems to be working ok but for some reason making longer distance calls is where the problem is... Its starting to bug me, especially the wifi while screen is off being disabled when I have not selected that anywhere. Also definitely feels spotty and doesnt load all my data right away when I turn screen on, like its slow. No way I should have to use keepalive app for wifi to remedy this. Bluetooth audio in my car sounds pretty bad. It cant just be my device as others have reported similar findings.
What are your thoughts, will you deal with this and just keep your device?
Have you possibly thought about another device?

This phone is new. 1st software release for our ATT phones. Report those bugs to HTC/ATT, they will address it. Fixes will come in future updates if the devs dont fix them first. All new phones have bugs, all. They normally get fixed
It was also before but all started 2 years ago when they were fiddling with battery to last longer.
When you stream music WiFi to router and then amp when screen is off it can effect constant playback.
But you figured out what's caused it.
Even with mp3 not only heavy flacs.

Yes my bluetooth call quality is bad. My earpiece call quality is fuzzy and buzzes. Am I the only one?
*EDIT* After unrooting, relocking the bootloader, factory reset, all that fun stuff, the call quality finally corrected. Then got worse again. I figured out that it was my Google account screwing around with settings because whether you set it to or not, it tries to restore your previous settings. After wiping out that account and rebooting, call quality is wonderful.

I figured out that it was my Google account screwing around with settings because whether you set it to or not, it tries to restore your previous settings. After wiping out that account and rebooting, call quality is wonderful.

Are you effing serious?? I can't believe it, but I'll try it!
Edit: this didn't make one bit of different for me.

Yes I was getting ready to go to the AT&T store to swap for one with a non defective earpiece. But I wiped my primary Gmail account from the phone, rebooted, plugged it in to charge for a little while so I could do some schoolwork and call quality was fine. So I don't know if it pulled over bad settings from my old inspire or what. Try the call quality while there is no Google account signed in after the reboot.

I tried it without any Google account set up. No luck for me. I even wiped my phone clean and did a factory reset just to test it out. Didn't work. Oh well.

I have no problem with Wifi. Just to clarify: You have the AT&T version, you run the phone as it was shipped and you run no task killer? If the Wifi disconnects the symbol in the notification bar disappears?

Lol, yes correct that how WiFi is suppose to work on devices. I have zero WiFi issues myself. When it's enabled and i connect to say my home wifi it appears on my device and stays connected all throughout my home. Flawless for me. When wifi is disconnected or turned off well of course it is no longer displayed on the notification bar, it's turned off or not connected, why would it still be displayed up there?

I just wanted to make sure that the lack of push notification that some see is really due to a disconnect of wifi. If the wifi symbol is still there and they don't get push notifications it is probably something else...I saw many people complaining about hardware defects and in 50% of cases it was because they used task killers or battery "optimizers" that disabled sync and other important processes.

I shall test this out with no battery saver mode or any battery saver app running and see.

Well, I was serious. Then after an overnight charge the problem started again. Still fuzzy and buzzy on the earpiece. More a problem with volume than frequency. Its the same as the bluetooth call quality. Reminds me of when A/V pregain is set far higher than postgain for manual distortion control. I think the values for volume amplification are screwed up somewhere. I like the phone, I just don't wanna deal with crappy call quality forever. I could even deal with the bootloader locking if the other issues would get fixed (well. I already have my code.). Got five days to make a call on keep it or exchange before the no questions asked 14 day exchange window for AT&T closes.
UPDATE: Update on the earpiece. I was just about to swap it out but then during the call it stopped buzzing and became clear. It did this when I took it away from my face and did something onscreen during the call. If it was a hardware issue, it would do it every call and during the whole call in my opinion.

Just curious, have you checked the following settings: Click "Settings" > "Wi-Fi" > "Menu" > "Advanecd" > "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" > "Always"
