Need a super noob guide for updating to 7.1.1 - Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooti

I only want to be rooted so i can install "must be rooted" apps and have android 7.1.1 on my tablet.
I tried to read how to's on here and they all refer to other threads that are more and more complicated.
could someone please send me a step by step? thank you in advance.

Just type in on the internet "unlock boatloader xperia" first then go onto Sonys website and follow the steps their and come back to here and tell me once use finished that.

I can't find anything on Sony's website about unlocking boatloader. Sorry if I'm not understanding properly.

That should help... http://bfy.tw/F1Tf

Lol I did that but I guess you meant the sonymobile website. I was looking for something that said sony.ca sorry. I tried to follow those steps but my tablet says "no" under the service info. Does that mean I'm out of luck?

Stuck at firt hurdle

I'm trying to root my new Orange Hero to install a custom image, but having difficulty. The first step in the guide at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4525393#post4525393 (folled from this topic) is to install a custom image, my rom is 2.73+. The box in flashrec, however, is automatically filled in, and when I try to type the path suggested, though it exists, I just get "download failed". Am I missing something, do I still need to follow this guide to path a virgin phone?
Looks like you are stuck at your spelling also.
Use BTDAG's guide linked in my signature.
...And can I ask what possessed you to post in the Development section and not General or Q&A??????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Apologies for posting in the wrong forum, I wasn't sure and I really wanted to get this working. That looks like a great guide, it looks I need to downgrade my ROM first.
Using the 2.73.61.5 updater, I've twice got as far as booting to recovery mode, the the tool either crashe on Wi 7 x64, despite installing the "My HTC" drivers and getting HTC sync to see the phone, or I get "The update utility could not connect to your android phone".

Unlocking Galaxy S2

Hi All,
I am a newbie...I would appreciate if someone could help me.
I am planning to root my phone using following,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1309293&page=3
If I use that root can I use following to unlock?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1289395
much appreciate your help
Rooting and unlocking the phone will not conflict. You can do both.
If you try the rooting method you posted, assuming you are still straight stock, it will not work for you. I suggest you either use the rooting method in the sticky post in the general forum, or if you are concerned about incrementing the flash counter, use the stock + root method posted by Entropy512. See the Guide "How to flash custom binaries..." linked in my signature for that.
creepyncrawly...
what are the disadvantages of incrementing the flash counter? I would like to follow an easy method since I am new to this whole thing....used to be iphone customer for long.
appreciate your help.
There is quite a bit of information in the discussion portion of the first two guides. Some people are very cautious about possibly having their warranty voided, since in the agreement with the carrier, flashing custom binaries voids the warranty. On the other hand, many people are very cavalier about it, even returning their phones with custom software still installed. I have not seen anyone post that they actually had their warranty denied. I have been reading both the captivate forums and these forums for about a year and a half.

Congrats on rooting, that method in your post works for unlocking. On step 2, just remember to wait. Your phone will be unlocked after it reboots. So if it says the application is not responding, click "wait"

Thanks all....
I did unlock it and also....flashed the unnammed. Very cool. I read everything like 5 times and followed everything to a letter.
Only difference was in the Android SDK...adb.exe is not in the tools anymore it is moved to platform-tools. That is where now you have to copy the zImage as the commands in the instruction assumes that adb is in the same dir.
Thanks.

For unlock codes visit:
Why would anybody pay for an S2 unlock code when you can install a program from the Market for free?
'cuz they don't know free tool is avail., i guess.
Well if you google unlock s2 to find one of the various unlock code websites, you should see the app as well. its actually the first result. hope nobody pays for a code
If I'm not mistaken, you're not allowed to advertise for paid services in these forums. There's a marketplace on here I think for this.

[Q] Cant unlock bootloader through HTVdev

Hello eveyone
I am trying to root my legend. First, I tried the method on http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/wiki/HTC_Legend:_Full_Update_Guide
It has 2 steps: downgrading and rooting.
I completed whole step 1 (downgrading) and went back to android 2.1 through the RUU.
Then I came at step 2, rooting the device. In step two of the rooting, it gives a link to the rooting files. This mediafire link is dead.
I went online searching for another link, and eventually i came at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1680584#3 wich guides to do the root through HTVdev. Before i actually went and tried this i needed a working phone for work so i did a full reset and updated trough android OTA update.
When I tried to unlock it through HTVdev, i runned into a problem.
Before i even could start, it asked me to update my rom with one of the given links. It says:
NOTE: If you do not find your ROM version in the table below, and your ROM version is newer, then your device does not require the RUU. Please bypass these steps and continue to the next page.
Click to collapse
So my problem is, my version is not listed, but it is ALSO NOT newer than the versions listed below. The versions that are listed are:
3.14.161.1
3.14.163.1
3.15.1600.
3.15.178.3
3.15.405.3
3.15.708.2
3.15.709.3
3.15.720.3
3.18.751.2
3.19.1010.1
3.20.666.1
3.30.415.6
3.30.466.6
Click to collapse
My problem is, i got version 3.15.405.7, very similar to the one listed, 3.15.405.3. First i skipped this part, and went ahead to follow the steps anyway. When i had to type fastboot oem get_identifier_token (step 8) in command prompt, it supposed to give me a large list of numbers.
Mine did nothing, so i knew i was wrong. I tried all of the steps a few times but with no effect. Then i thought, can't i just use the RUU of 3.15.405.3, maby then it will work?
But when i tried to run it, it didn't work since i dont have the right version to begin with.
So now what, can anybody help me? I realy want to unlock my device, it is so slow on stock 2.2 i'm getting crazy
I'll trie to follow every suggestion somone gives me but i cannot guarentee i can do everything since i'm a bit new to this stuff (although i know a lot about computers)
Thank you very much!

[Q] Root ICS with New Lelus method & Offline Flash - Newbie question

Hi thanks for looking.
I'm a new register and newbie to rooting. And I'm currently following
[ROOT ICS L9 GUIDE] Root ICS with New Lelus method & Offline Flash [11-Mar] guide.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2173465
Unfortunately, I'm a new user register so I can't post on that message thread. So, I was instructed to post my question here.
So, I'm following the guide word-for-word from steps 0 - 8 and now I'm up to the part where it says to "When done, REMOVE USB CABLE AND POWER OFF THE PHONE."
Okay, now question:
[Q]1: For step 9a and 9b. When do I actually perform these steps:
So, currently my USB cable is removed and the L9 is power off from the above step in STEP8.
9A. says to Add lines in "hosts" file as mentioned in step 1 of this post.
So, I'm going to assume that I add the Hex-Edited BIN file and related KDZ file that I've downloaded in STEP1.
But where do I add said lines to?
[Q]2: okay so for step 9b. Start "SmallServer" as mentioned in step 2 of same post.
Where is this "SmallServer?"
In step 2 of the same post, I've already Downloaded Root_and_Flash_Guide_byCMahendra(date).zip file (attached with this post) and extract in your C-Drive.
and gotten three folders named "C:\RootLelus" and "C:\RootFlash" and "C:\shttps"
[Q]3. Okay, now that I'm just advance reading to STEP10 that asks to follow Steps 3-10. Does that mean now I have to reconnect my phone back to the PC from STEP8 and go through the steps 3-10 again, since I've already gone through it the first time around.
[Q]4. the Actual Magic.
So, which LG UPDATE TOOL is the step 11 referring to? Is this when I'm installing the driver to my PC in Step 3? Or is said LG UPDATE TOOL sometime during step 4-8?
Sorry, for all the confusing NEWBIE questions. I'm just trying to follow all the steps without bricking my new phone.
Thank you in advance for your patience and assistance.
-Peter Wong

OKay, sorry... another question.
So, I'm now flashing with the PHONE UPDATE TOOL and after going through all the steps and the 'MAGIC' swap. My phone reboots and when it turns on I get an error message:
[Driver Software Installatior
Device driver software was not successfully installed
Please consult with your device manufacturer for assistance getting this device installed.
OMAP4430 Device unplugged]
Please let me know what I did wrong and at which point in the process do I need to repeat all the steps again to root my phone.
Do I go back and use the [GUIDE] FLASH L9 Factory ICS/JB ROM WITH OFFLINE FIX + UNBRICK
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=36351786&postcount=1
And start with STEP7 and rerun the PHONE UPDATE TOOL and MAGIC swap?
Thanks in advance.
Hmm I remember getting a driver installation error when trying to put the phone into 'software upgrade mode'. In my case, I held the 'volume up' button down and plugged the USB cable into the phone. Then I got the error notification that the OMAP driver didn't install. Yet right after this, another set of drivers installed (I'm guessing the computer took a minute to recognize the different mode of the phone?). These new set of drivers installed successfully and I was able to root with no problems.
tl;dr I disregarded the OMAP error, and rooted just fine with no problems
Have you checked if you got root after flashing? If you do have root, then you should be fine.

Protomartyr,
Ohhh..so that error message isn't the cause of my phone not being able to successfully root, huh? No, my phone still isn't rooted. Basically when my L9 is successfully rooted is when all default icons on my phone are gone right?
So, a couple new questions then.
[Q]1: Okay, I know when it's time to flash you have to hold down the volume button and then plug in the USB cable into the phone. How long do you hold the volume button down? I hold the button down until the phone turns out with the S/W flashing message and then I let go. Do, I need to hold down the button throughout the whole flashing process?
[Q]2: How can you tell if the phone is rooted? Does it look different?
I'm guessing my phone is still haven't been rooted and I'm only getting this error message.
[Driver Software Installatior
Device driver software was not successfully installed
Please consult with your device manufacturer for assistance getting this device installed.
OMAP4430 Device unplugged]
So, if the above error message isn't the cause of my failed rooting. At which step do I go back and reattempt to root my phone?

You wouldn't see a difference once you rooted right off the bat. You should see the SuperSU app in your apps list if you followed the procedure. However, having the SuperSU app doesn't mean you are rooted (SuperSU binaries must be installed as well and this requires super user privileges).
To check if you have rooted successfully, the best way is to just download 'Root Checker' here (Click Me for Link)
Once you install Root Checker and open it, you should see a notification asking for Root Checker to get super user privileges. Accept the notification and you should see 'Root successful' or something along those lines.
Let me know if Root Checker says 'successful' or not, and maybe we can troubleshoot after that?

Hey Protomartyr,
Cool, my phone installed SuperSU in my apps menu and Root Checker says my phone has been rooted. Now I just need a guide or info on how to remove the bloatware and what I can do with my rooted phone. Thanks for all your assistance and guidance.

No problem. Congrats on getting root :highfive:
As far as removing bloatware safely is concerned, you might have to ask someone else (I'm still a newbie at these things). You can remove/disable them using Titanium Backup (from the app store). Proceed with caution though, as you don't want to remove an app that the phone needs to function. From what I hear, it's safer to just disable unneeded apps (though even then you must tread carefully). Titanium Backup is also useful for backing up all your apps/system apps/user data.
As far as what you can do with root...well that's like asking how many drops of water are in the ocean You can fully customize your phone and even install a new ROM; just naming a few. You can get a better picture of what people are doing with their phones in this thread [Click Me] as well as the other LG L9 threads.
Enjoy!

You can root this device using the method described in this thread.
Thanks again for everything Protomartyr,
You've been really helpful. Okay, another question. So, now that I've rooted my phone. Do I now go back and turn on the Lookout Security Antivirus, that I've had to turn off during the rooting process steps? Or would I need to allows need to leave it off to keep my root active?

Help with Installing a ROM on Z2

Greetings everyone.
I knwo this question was probably read here on this forum many, many, many times, but knowing and stating this, I haven't been able to find a solution, even though I've read through for this problem more than I've ever read my university books, it's now 7.10 AM where I live, the sun is shining, and yet here I am, still reading and writing.
THe problem is here. I got an Xperia Z2 D6503 and it was on Android 6 Marshmellow. I wanted to install the existenZ rom, which was posted in the forum, and the troubles came. I had to ROOT and have a costum Recovery (obviously).
And so I started looking everywhere on the internet for a solution, I tried flashing with Flashtool a downgraded FTF, so that I could follow a specific tutorial that was stating so...and then, nothing. Dead end. I couldn't achieve anything. I flashed the ROM, but it was a dead end method to ROOT.
I followed another tutorial, which got me to the current state (17.1.A.2.55), and I believe it was posted by Doomlord, but the files I needed to get a costum recovery were dead.
Now I achieved to ROOT the device, following a doomlord tutorial but I need help how to install a costum recovery, a step by step for dummies edition, so that I can finally install the final existenz 7.0 and enjoy my new phone.
Thank you for your time.
Has your device passed the warranty state? If yes, I would suggest you go for the Unlock Bootloader method, which is much simpler.
Yes I did unlock the bootloader.
What can I do now ?
I tried last night to install a recovery app (apk) that was posted by doomlord...i was able to enter on recovery after a restard via that app, I started the install of the existenz from zip file that I had coppied on the phone...after that...nothing. Dead end. Bootloop.
Did you also flash the bootloop fix?

No I did not do that.
