Hi there guys, I got an issue with my moto E after having flashed carbon ROM. Basically it can't read any more my SIM card content.
What this means is that it can feel if the card is inserted or not (through notification bar and alerts when I remove it), but it simply doesn't work. Which includes total lack of signal (and that's not a problem of the area where I live), no contacts or text message threads, nor even it prompts me for pin on startup. I know it can't be the SIM because it's working on other devices, and my friends' SIMs work on mine.
Also apparently my external SD card seems that got corrupted, as I can't read it even on my laptop any more.
All the rooting process went down quite smoothly, and the problem came only just after I've flashed the Carbon ROM (if it matters, I actually flashed the ROM first, and then Gapps in a second moment).
I tried to flash other ROMs and even the stock ROM (without reinstalling the original recovery and locking the bootloader back though), with the hope to set things back right, but so far no luck.
I've found this thread though, where it mentions that Efs files might be corrupted
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/help/reading-sim-card-flashing-rom-t1342770
but what are they exactly?
Might it be a kernel related issue? Would I be able to solve it flashing a new kernel?
I'm not an expert in this kind of stuff, hence every help is appreciated.
ok i will help you please answer my questions
type *#06# and check if you can see imei
Hi mate, sorry I didn't reply immediately, I've been caught in other commitments. I will be here at the computer the rest of the day.
I did what you said and the IMEI number turned up

I've just done that, but, according to the app, the phone is in "WCDMA preferred" already. The thing is that it's not just the connectivity... but all the functions related to the SIM card (PIN, contacts, text messages threads) aren't working... And yet it detects if the SIM card (which works on other devices) is inserted or not.

No SIM can work on that device, but they do on others.
Actually I've just bought another Moto E, as I've bricked that one trying to revert it to the original setting, flashing a Stock ROM.
I've proceeded again with the whole process of flashing the same Carbon ROM (this time after the due nandroid backup), and then again, everything it's working, except for the SIM card. I'm thinking that there's something wrong with it, I'd really like to know if there are any other Moto E users with the same issue with this ROM. Actually, browsing forums around, it appears that this issue happens several time while flashing, but noone seems to know why..
That's a pity though, I'd really enjoy try out different custom ROMs on this device.
Ehy... could it be that the ROM I've flashed was intended for single sim devices only, why I have a double SIM Moto E?
That might explain why, although everything seems to work, the system doesn't enable the SIM functions.
Is there some ROM fan/developer who can actually confirm that, and also indicate me a custom ROM which supports double SIM, if any?
By the way, I managed to get back to the rooted stock rom with my last device, the first one is still there booting. Always do that goddam nandroid backup guys...

The two variants were released in different regions so the custom ROM for single SIM might have different baseband than devices in your region.
Either flash the baseband for your region, if available or else flash a compatible ROM.
OK neo.ank, I'll give it a try.
i have the same problem too.
i was using the cm11, but don't recognize my headphones
them i get back with the stock rom but now i can't do phone calls cuz the phone can't fiund my SIM card
hi friend i have a motorola xt1022 bricked and flash con custom rom, after flash not read sim or not sim any solution for it thk
Hi same problem... not *#06# is not giving IMEI number
IMEI 1: null
IMEI 2: null
Yeah it may be a problem with ROM !
So check if your sims work on other ROM
I also got same issue. Do you had luck in solving your problem ?
same sim related message etc not working
imei number can be seen when checked using phone tester app it shows ip disconnected in telephony section what can we do now:cryingroblem is frequently like 8hrs to 1day its there and 2 days it isnt and problem started last week happened 3-4 times already. i recently got my defective battery changed
IMEI null.
What to do next?

Does it show up on stock? Which rom are you using?
Is it your Sim or do you need your signal? If that you have to enter the apn manually
Did you install/Update to CM 12.1 build?
Do you have baseband unknown under settings>About phone?
If you are new to CM12.1 and have baseband unknown issue. This is a common issue going around for CM based ROMs
you may need to flash stock sony FTF if yours is a non GPE model and then root and flash recovery.
You will get baseband back

Hello to you, I know you posted this a while ago, but I'm having the same problem on a Z ultra bought second hand... I have the error message invalid sim card after inputing the sim code (so the sim card is detected, and is working in another phone) I also have the error unknown baseband as you described. In the same way, when in service menu, if I want to check SIM lock in service info, the app freeze too without displaying anything.
I don't know what the other owner did to the phone though.
any clue for what to do ? I flashed the latest original rom ( 14.4.A.0.108) through flashtool - still sim card invalid -, then tried to flash through cwm another rom, but still the same.
There is also another bug, i don't know whether it's linked or not, but i can't take a picture with the camera app, the app freeze when I click the button !
Any help would be gladly appreciated !
Hi Kwenteen,
Did you get "unknown baseband" after flashing some ROM? If yes, try flashing KitKat ROM first and then see if you get baseband. I'm suspecting the flashing process didn't go well.
This is a known bug with CM12 ROM for ZU go to dial pad and dial *#06# and the Imei will show up if it shows unknown either flash the Modem zip or flash the stock ROM again

Hello sjesudasan, thanks for your help,
I tried to flash numerous original roms, starting all the way down to 290, which is 4.3, that displayed properly the emei number, but didn't allow me to pass phone calls (sim card detected, ask for pin code, then no service)
And I can't enter any APN.
On top of that, I am now unable to flash anything with xperia flashtool anymore, getting a null error then error flashing. Aborted. when trying to flash any firmware and the device doesn't boot anymore either. I guess the last flash went wrong even if it didn't display any error, but I assumed that as long as I was able to put the phone in flashmode, I would be able to flash anything, and get away from softbrick ?
when trying to fix with Xperia compagnon, I get the error "UEGetPhoneInfoMissingInfo "
Thank you for your suggestion sairaj rane, unfortunately I already tried that, went back to original firmware, I even flashed the modem zip. None of those solution worked for me.
Thank you for your help !
Hello, after 2 weeks of trouble just to get back with a functionning 5.1.1 ROM, I now have an original sony rom fixed by xperia compagnion.
I have the same error, can't get to the network. Phone ask for simcode, I enter it, and then no error, just no connexion to the network.
I have a recognized emei number, but the ICCID says unknown...
Is it normal ?
Thanks for the help anyway !

Unfortunately, yes.
It worked in a way that allowed me to retrieve the phone from a pretty hard brick, in conjunction with the use of the test point method and s1tool …
but even after this awakening from the dead, still no network connection.
Have you checked the six golden Pins inside the Phones SIM Slot? (Hard to see)
Once my phones one was bent. Had to correct them with a fine tool. Sim recognized since then.

Hi guys,
I have Redmi Note 4 Global version (SD625 4gb RAM 64gb storage). I had a problem about IMEI and tried to fix it. Finally i fixed it, but now when i insert the sim card, phone recognises the sim card, asks me pin code. No problem till here. After entering pin code, phone unlocks but there is no service all the time. When i try to make a call it says "Turn off airplane mode to make a call." and "RADIO OFF" in the screen, as i marked in the photo.
In the Hardware Test section (*#*#6484#*#*) sim detect "passed" as showed at the picture.
What i did for fixing;
1. Flashed china developer rom; did not work,
2. Flashed global developer rom; did not work,
3. Flashed NON-HLOS.bin file from gobal developer rom via fastboot adb; did not work,
4. Flashed gobal stable rom; did not work,
5. Flashed NON-HLOS.bin file from gobal stable rom via fastboot adb; did not work,
6. Tried to flashed .qcn file from another Redmi Note 4 Global version but get an error on this and could ot do this,
7. Flashed RR rom by TWTP, clean flash; didn't work,
8. Flashed latest developer rom from xiaomi.eu; didn't work.
I show about phone section for my phone at the picture too. I have bootloader unlocked, no root access for now (i had before and can get easly)
Please help...

but later i realized there ise another option on mi flash tool's drop-down menu, it says "flash_factory.bat" tried to flash with this option but i got an error, i think rom must be different for this option. so i will google for that, do you think it could help?

you should ask for .xqcn or .qcn file of working redmi note 4 mobile here or in community , then you restore it. It will restore all baseband in your mobile and surely solve your problem, but it will also restore IMEI of that mobile in your mobile, so you should try this with your nearby users which can easily support you and later you can change imei with your own IMEI
here a link of smilllar situation and has .qcn http://en.miui.com/thread-545300-1-1.html
you may try it your own risk
I have another Redmi Note 4 global version. I will try vith it.

thanks broooooo
My problem is solved. I restored qcn file from another redmi note 4 global, and gsm serice is back.
In fact, i tried it before but got an error says "The ESN of the phone does not match the ESN of this file containing RF calibration data" so i had cancelled the process. But just a little time before now tried the same way and got same error. I googled it a little and found a way. I checked "Allow phone/file esn mismatch" option and the process succeed. And nothing happend to my origina IMEI.
Pliz share ur qcn file of redmi note 4 global, Indian version qcn doesn't work, pliz
Pliz share ur qcn, I will use my imei, don't worry, pliz share it.

I have same problem Radio turned off and MI service center advised to change motherboard which will cost almost price of a new phone. Will this issue also cause because of a hardware issue?
Hi to everyone and very sorry for not replying. I didn't get any notifications from the app for your posts.
I had opened the same topic at mi forum. Here is the link: http://en.miui.com/thread-686524-1-1.html
You will find more information there.
For Any Mi Device if radio is off
first need to flash with edl or fastboot mode for any issue related to network baseband imei radio, but after all there is no luck
for Radio off you need to write QCN only with any tool like UMT,CM2,Miracle,Qpst and etc whatever you have you need to read a fresh qcn with same model phone using tools and write on your damaged else search on internet for qcn and write with same tool of qcn backup after this process reboot your phone and check your imei if all is well there no need to do anything else need change your imei with original imei and enjoy your phone
---------- Post added at 02:01 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:56 PM ----------
write any qcn file for same model and change imei with original IMEi by UMT/miracle no need to change qcn in ultraedit software if you are not much expert you can fix in few step easily bro using this kind of tool ask if is there any query

I couldn't figure out what exactly went wrong too. Was flashing to the latest miui 10 global using edl mode before it happened. Went back to china then global and still the same thing. Actually, nothing breaks, everything works well, except for the imei, and the imei is not missing too, since using miflashpro tool(the part where it use mi recovery to get imei), both of them are showing there. Only the OS fails to get the imei number and kept showing the annoying "invalid device id" warning(on miui, on aosp custom it's as if nothing is wrong except for about page and *06# not showing imei). I'm confused as hell right now.
edit: can anyone help me out? on qxdm, nv value 00550 (ue_imei), is it supposed to be readable? on my phone it's showing as "NV status error received: value inactive", trying to write to it shows "Item read only". from what i've been reading, there's supposed to be some values for that nv item. holy balls i messed up my phone really bad.

Hi all,
I am completely stuck with this, I couldnt get any wifi it wouldnt turn on and when I did it just turned off again. It also wont read my sim card and randomly restarts.
I tried factory resetting but its now just stuck getting me through the android setup and needs internet in order for me to register the account that I previously used on the phone, otherwise it wont let me pass. It wont turn on wifi still and still doesnt register my sim card.
Please help as I have been trying this for hours and Im honestly at the end of my rope.
Cheers,
Evan
update:
I have tried,
factory reset
Flashing the rom,
downgrading,
upgrading,
wiping everything and putting latest miui again,
used twrp for running a recovery.
None of this has worked - all came to the same problem
So i believe that I found the issue. I managed to actually get in to the phone without needing to login to my mi account after a long few hours troubleshooting. Managed to boot in to miui 9.
I can see that my IMEI numbers are showing as UNKNOWN
I am going to see if I can find the box for my phone and then get the imei numbers back in the EFS file using miracle box
** :UPDATE 2.0: **
Hi.
So I am now witnessing really strange behavior.......
The phone will reboot ocassionally. Ive not recorded a pattern but every now and again it will register the SIM card but wont turn on the wifi.
The IMEI numbers will show, the base band version will show and the mac address. But I dont think they are correct.....
----------
Its showing
IMEI (SLOT1):
868xxxxxxxxx333
IMEI (sv1)
00
IMEI (SLOT2):
868xxxxxxxxx341
IMEI (sv2)
00
----------------------------
Baseband version:
Will update on next reboot that shows it as I didnt manage to capture the data when it did actually appear
----------------------------
Mac address:
02:00:00:00:00:00
I don't think some of this is correct.....
Like the mac address.... It doesnt look right to me.....
Anyone help with these symptoms?
It wont actually connect to any network still when it shows these details and after a short few minutes will restart and show them as unknown again.
Kind regards,
Evan

Try with a fastboot rom flashing via miflash...this will fix all system issues. You can search in xda for fastboot rom links .it ends with .tgz
Thanks

Okay I think I'm completely screwed. I am unable to edit the qcn/unable to restore from a custom qcn and I can't get find any roms that fix the issue.
SOMEONE PLEASE HELP THIS IS STRESSING ME OUT SO MUCH, I JUST WANT MY PHONE TO WORK AGAIN
@Mod plz can you recommend anyone to help me out??
The fastboot rom is different from the one that use to be flashed with twrp. Did you given a try with fastboot rom? Internet is required while flashing with miflash as it uses your mi account. Don't loose hope.
Thanks.

Have you tried flashing with the MiFlash tool? Or is this what you meant by fastboot?
I know this isn't the help you're looking for but if you need your phone to work just take it to a service center. It'll cost money off course, but they'll help you. Some service centers do it within a few minutes
The same problem than me
Hello Evoku, how r u?
Sorry for my poor English, but I'm from Brazil.

Try the persist fix. If that doesnt help, i doubt that some box will, as it appears to be a hardware issue..
Hi guys, some problem to me and I just fix it.
I noticed that if the phone is switched off for at least 10 minutes then wifi and SIM card are working for some minutes before stop. I used this time to unlock the bootrom, install the TWRP, root the phone and backup the EFS partition ready to apply the "Super guide: Persist file the magical file". On TWRP I noticed that I don't have the persist partition for the magical file. Anyhow I powered on the phone and now WiFi and SIM card are working properly! Hope this helps.
