Hey, I've got S4 with i545VRSGPL1 bootloader and I wish to install LOS on this phone. Is it even possible? I've actually managed to root the device, but don't know how to install custom recovery to perform installing custom rom. I've tried Flashfire, but didn't work. ANy idea?

for PL1 there are no custom roms. you can downgrade to OF1, just download the rom of Sammobile and install it with ODIN
downgrading from pl1

Try it my friend, my s4 came with PL1 and I just installed the OF1 and wipe it, now I have installed stang5litre Ultra Note5 rom with xposed and viper4android
Anyone know where I can get safe strap recovery for this phone? I'm on GPL1 and want to flash the OF1_rooted_stock_ROM.zip so I can boot stang5litre ROM.

Okay, so I have the VZW S4 (obviously) and I'm running VRUDMI1, rooted with Root De La Vega.
I downloaded ROMmanager and Tried to install CWM Recovery, it didn't work.
Then I downloaded GooManager and tried to install TWRP, also didn't work.
Is there another way to install custom recovery or am I to assume this is because the Bootloader has not been unlocked for this firmware?
If this bootloader has been unlocked could I be please be pointed in the right direction?\
Basically, my goal is to install a custom ROM and as far as I know, I need a custom recovery image and in order to do that I need to unlock my bootloader. Am I correct in these assumptions?

At this time your only option is Safestrap by Hashcode.

And that is a method of "dual-booting" or something right? So essentially, I could boot into a custom ROM but I couldn't overwrite the existing one, forever wasting the space that the original ROM takes up?

Some have installed a custom ROM into the stock slot. Do a little research and see if that's something you would want to do.

I think I am going to try it, seeing as it is my only option until the bootloader is unlocked for my kernel. Thank you guys so much.

As long as you understand that you can't flash anything but a Touchwiz ROM. You can't do that if your phone has firmware later than MDK.
No CM. No AOSP. And no, you can't downgrade to MDK firmware.

You can't flash AOSP roms on MK2/Safestrap, only TW (TouchWiz) based roms matching your current stock version (4.3).
thanks Oishi,
Can I flash back to an older stock rom that is not safestrap?

No, once you're on Stock MK2 you're locked to MK2 and have no other options than safestrap.

Here is a somewhat current list of compatible SS Roms
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2630040
Also check page 1 in the Android Development section; There are a few new ones that look tempting such as BajaRom for TW
Check out Eclipse 3.0 for an AOSP feel with TW compatibility.
Hi all, I have tried several times to install a custom recovery on my i545 but have bricked it each time. I've got so confused with boot versions, LOKI etc etc that I don't know what to do now.
I've included a screen shot of my About page. Can you please point me in the right direction as to what steps to take to install a custom recovery please?

From what i see, you cannot flash a custom recovery as you are not on a MDK bootloader. You are running NC5 which is to say "forget about running a custom recovery or a custom ROM outside of Safestrap."

You can downgrade to mk2 or new, but still bootloader is locked, use safestrap 3.72 to flash safestrap compatible rom.

If you haven't done so anyway, you will need to root using towelroot. You'll also need to get SElinux changer from the play store and set to permissive. Then install safestrap 3.72 and flash roms from the dev section that say are compatible with SS. That is what we're limited to.
Sorry that I haven't been keeping up with the latest developments in bootloader unlocks, roots, recoveries, etc.
I'm on stock rooted deodexed 4.1.2 with unlocked bootloader and a probably now ancient TWRP. What is the best way for me to get to stock rooted deodexed 4.4.2? I don't see any guides for this sort of thing here. Thanks in advance.

i just received my phone from getting sboot downgrade at mobiletech videos... it was on 4.1.2 also. download the twrp manager app in playstore. update to 2.8.1 ( i think thats the recommended one for some AOSP roms) flash the new version. reboot. download whatever 4.4.2 rom. make sure its rooted and knox is removed. move to sd card. boot to recovery & install. if you have wifi issues you'll need to flash MJ9 firmware. and firmware only. or you'll lock your bootloader. some say you can flash via recovery but odin is what most recommend. i went from 4.1.2 to 5.0.1 w/o having to do the firmware update and i dont have any radio or wifi issues. good luck
Hello..
I'm on 4.4.2 and I have a stock NC5 ROM, only ROOTED by Towelroot so I don't really have a recovery or anything.
I want the Lollipop OC1, I know that it has no root I just want to know where to start? do I just flash it through ODIN? Thank you.!!!
