LG G3 running Android 5.1.1 and TWRP 2.8
I made a backup using TWRP, connected my phone to my PC, and dragged and dropped the backup folder from my phone to my PC. I then deleted the backup from my phone and did a factory data reset. I put the backup back onto my phone by dragging and dropping, tried to use TWRP to restore the backup, and realized I had made a mistake. I very rarely mess with backups on my phone so it wasn't until later that I found out I wasn't moving the backup to my PC in the proper way. Is there anything I can do now or am I just SOL? I did a quick search but didn't come up with any clear answers. The backup folder I put on my PC is 8 GB but from what I read I'm missing files from the backup because of the way I put it on my computer.

There are tools to restore files even after a factory reset. Try those to restore your backup you deleted on the phone.

I tried apps on my phone from the play store and apps on my computer that require the phone to be connected to the computer. I wasn't able to find the backup that had been on my phone. Luckily, I had transferred all of my pictures to my computer before the factory reset so really all I have to do is spend the time getting all of the settings and apps back where they were and I didn't lose anything very important. Thanks for the help though. That was a good idea.

Based upon original phone firmware .
Kies contacts vids photos etc copy and paste to PC .
Format sd card via USB mass storage
Boot to recovery mode Factory reset and wipe .

Additionally, app data can only be backed up (and by extension, restored) if you have root. I use Titanium Backup.
I have checkrom v6 and can titanium have backups on computer?
Save your Titanium backups to your internal or external SD cards, then hook your phone up to your PC via USB, transfer the backups to your PC. When you've formatted/wiped/reset your phone, transfer your Titanium backup back to your internal/external sd card. Restore. Done.

Once you back up your app with titanium, the backed up data will be in /sdcard/TitaniumBackup on your phone. It's a good idea to copy this entire folder to your computer for safekeeping.
Then when you wipe your phone, this folder SHOULD still exist. Once you re-root (by reinstalling CheckROM, or rooting via other means), you can just restore your app data normally if the folder is still there. Otherwise, copy the folder back from your computer to the same location on your phone. (/sdcard/TitaniumBackup) Then restore using Titanium.
I've encountered issues when restoring App + Data through Titanium though. I find best results by re-installing the app fresh from the market, then restoring data ONLY.

SMS can be done through Titanium as well. I believe the entry is called [SMS/MMS/APN] Dialer Storage 2.x.x, where 2.x.x is whatever Android version you are currently on.
Alternatively, there are a number of apps on the market that can back up your SMS and MMS to your Gmail account. As of now though, they can only restore SMS, and not MMS. I use SMS Backup +.
As for the other stuff, contacts should be automatically synced to your Google account. Check to make sure though. Settings > Accounts and sync, check your Google account. Make sure "Sync Contacts" is checked. When you re-enter your Google account settings after a factory reset, it should pull your Google contacts down to the phone automatically.
For everything else, see JJEgan's post above.

Then copy the TitainumBackup folder to your computer, wipe, then copy it back. This is pretty clear. MistahBungle even gave that suggestion above in post 5.

Hii everyone,
I have a samsung galaxy nexus, and I recently been having a lot of problems with it. Programs crashing, contacts crashing, MMS keyboard coming up and not typing and so on.....
My question is this, is there anyways to go into the files and take out my APK files, so I can do a factory reset and just reinstall those files again?
In my NOKIA days, we always had a backup option, where I would back up the files, and then do a factory HARD reset. And then I would restore the files using the back up.
In case of the android, I have LOTS and LOTS of files, and I dont want to go and download them all.
Any advice from you guys would be appreciated.

WONT that back it up on my phone again? And if so, then when i quick restore my phone, wont I lose it all?
TB can make backups of your apps and their data, so you can restore it when you wish (obviously, you need install TB first ).

titanium backup backs up your files to the sd card. When you do a factory reset it only wipes your system partition so the sd card won't be affected. You can then reinstall titanium and restore all your apps and settings/data.
my phone crashed during a billiard game and now the screen shattered, it's fine cause i have warranty but i don't know if they'll change the screen or replace the phone so i need to know everything is backed up.
i have a backup with titanium, and cmw and i know they both save the backup in the sdcard but does they can restore the information to a new phone? i just need to put the sdcard in the new one and titanium will restore the information?
second question, i have a lot of reminders in the "notes" widget that i can not remember, can i run the phone in a virtual machine in the computer even just once to see what i wrote there? i really need those notes.
thank you very much, sorry on my English and all have a good day and a great weekend
Yes. You should be able to restore your CWM backup to your new phone. You won't need your Ti backup as the CWM backup is a 'snapshot' of your phone at the time you took the backup.
the thing is the CMW backup is a bit old, can i restore the TI in a new phone?
what about getting the notes back?(i need them before the phone will be fixed)
OK. Think about what a CWM backup is & what happens when you restore one.
When you restore a CWM backup your phone (all of it; app settings, etc) will be restored exactly as they were when you took the backup.
The Ti Backup might restore OK to a different phone, never heard of anyone on here trying it, so you're only going to find that out when you try it.
As long as the version of CWM you use to do the restore isn't too far away from the version you used to take the backup, it should restore OK. If it doesn't, you might have to flash a kernel with the same CWM version you used to make the backup (to make a certainty of the restore working).\\
You can use ADB to pull stuff off a phone with a broken screen. Lots of tutorials about same on here/elsewhere (search).

do you know in which folder the notes widget and the info of what i wrote is in the sdcard?
i've opened the phone on the coputer, but no folder contains the info for the notes widget, where the phone contains it?

i managed to get the notes via kies but can't open them, someone know a way to open .smm files in the pc? can't find nothing on google
Alright...
I had the Shishir rom on my phone for many months and it worked very well. Tonight I dropped my phone (has happened many times before with no repercussions) while it was plugged in and the rom would no longer load on start up. The boot sequence would run all the way through and get stuck on the four colored X.
So I booted into CWM and made a backup because I had not previously backed up my contacts recently. I transferred this backup to my pc. I restored backup and now my phone works fine. However all of the contacts and messages are gone.
So I ask, I plead, is there any way to manually extract the contact database from the CWM backup image?

Titanium backup
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
I tried it. Titanium sees the backup but says there is nothing in it...so was all the data corrupted the moment the phone fell and the backup is worthless or..?
So I recently swapped from the Z1C to the Z5C.
Backed up everything using the Backup and Restore app from the Z1C, saved everything to the SD Card.
Now the Z5C will not find the backup to restore from.
I know that the Z1C backed everything up in .semc-fullbackup that resides in the root of the SD Card, and that the Z5C is looking for the files in SDcard/Android/data/SonyBnR, but the file structure is completely different.
Given that my Z1C is no longer available, am I stuck?
Probably - it's a terrible back-up and restore app. I tried to use it just to test the back-up/restore feature on my Z3C and couldn't even get it to recognize it's own back-up file. Even if you're not rooted Titanium Backup is the way to go from now on.
