in middle conversation the phone became mute
i guess my ear touch it
how can i prevent it ?
Usually happens when the proximity sensor is obstructed. Try cleaning the surface of the phone using a cloth and see of this persists.

Hi,
I'd like to know if X10 has that proximity sensor, that, during calls for example, can detect if your face is near of the phone, turning off the screen and saving some battery. I'm my opinion this is very useful.
Yes it does, although the stated usage is to avoid the face interacting with the touch capability. I don't know if it turns the screen off.
at least for my old Motorola Cliq the sensor is able to turn the screen on and off..
I haven't had any problems talking with the phone against my cheek. Read on a swedish forum about someone getting sms during a call and seemingly had answered the sms with his cheek. Needless to say, it was filled with junk^^

Yeah, I read that too! But I have never had any problems like that myself. Works like a charm!
Yes. It has a proximity sensor. It is near the top to the right of the speaker. It will disable the touch and dim the screen (which will also turn off after a time) when it is against your face.
Does anyone know if the sensitivity of the proximity sensor can be tweaked. Mine only blanks the screen when i put my finger within about 1-2 mm of the screen. Now i know i have big ears, but if i position the phone so that it is hard against my face but the proximity sensor is over the centre of my ear the phone comes on. Anyone else get that?

does the proximity sensor also works in pants or shirt??
for example: i pick up a call using bluetooth and the phone is in my pants, it seems that the phone screen n touch screen is on... if i move my body and accidentaly touch the "end call" button i suddenly hang up... this also happen if i accidentaly hit the speaker key on the screen... i know donut 1.6 doesnt have this problem, but after update to eclair 2.1 the screen doesnt shut if i pick up a call using a bluetooth...
Dear Ray guys,
in my opinion the proximity sensor on the Ray does not work well if you have hair between the phone and your ear. While you are in a call with the phone held to your ear, the sensor accidentally activates the screen.
The hair interferes with the sensors detection that your face is still near. Your cheek ends up hitting the end key or the mute button.
This happens only with hair: every kind of different surface works perfectly (but I have long hair unfortunately),
I thought my phone was defective, but at the Sony service I have tried two different Rays, which have the same behavior.
Did you ever experience such an issue?
I could only find a nice small app which turns off the screen while calling (see attach).
Anyone with long hair here?

I am liquidsmooth 2.37, waiting for a stable kit kat and one bug has been killing me. the proximity sensor has been messed up for a while and will not turn the screen on during a call. neither will the power or home button. anyone know of an app that would either disable the proximity sensor OR keep the screen on during a call? I guess the AOSP call settings dont have a native feature

Have you tried blowing compressed air into the earpiece trick? Mine was acting the same way on cm11. For me it seems to be an issue of developing dirt/dust in the proximity sensor which is very close to the earpiece grill. My sensor seems to stop working every few weeks like clockwork and blowing the compressed air into the earpiece fixes the issue. Just a thought.
yeah i did blow it in there a few times with no change. i saw people do it a few months back and tried then too. is it dirt of what because my phone doesnt react the to power button or home button pressing during a call. i need to press it 1000 times and hope i catch it, if it comes on. if there was an app or something that would force the screen to say on during a call that would be amazing. i know if i have a bluetooth connection or a wired headset in, things are great. just that damn prox sensor
I had to pry my S4 open, clean off the glass in front of the proximity sensor, then add double-sided adhesive around the speaker opening to stop this problem from reoccurring.
Are you using a case that covers the area around the sensor? Some "rugged" hard cases don't have openings large enough for the sensor to act correctly.

its a known aosp issue software wise. i dont know how to fix it but dust doesnt cause it

Another thread about this stupid sensor.
My screen goes black when I call or answer a call. If I use a headset sometimes randomly the screen comes on or stays on when I answer a call.
The proximity sensor is working. Looking in *#*#7378423#*#* > Service tests > Ambient Light Sensor.
Putting it to a lamp gives a value of 10.0 and putting my finger over the sensor gives 0.0 .
So its working.
This seems to not be rom related if not for the change after Android 4.4. I flashed roms from cm-12.1-20161016-NIGHTLY-togari.zip, AOSP_N_161207_togari.zip and now I am on hybrid_concept_edition_2.0.zip.
I do have a screen protector on. But with a hole for the sensor. Its not dirty in that area. And the sensor worked fine way before I installed it.
This started happening during the last two months or so.
I tried numerus of apps from play store. None did anything. Of course I could force the screen to be on. But with the risk of pushing some buttons when I'm in a call.
My temporary fix so far has been to enable end call with power button
Do you have any idea what to do?
Thank you
I'm facing this same problem, I'm on stock.

yup.. I had mine apart today. But you need to remove the battery in order to flip the motherboard around to get to the connector.
I don't have time for that. Perhaps the battery will explode if I try to remove it..
So I cut a piece of foam plastic to fit around the usb connector so there is a constant pressure applied to the motherboard when screwed down the NFC antenna because there is a screw just around this area that sets the NFC antenna in place.
Hang on. I just made a call just for the sake of it that you answered to my thread and it freakin works!!!!!!!!!!!
I got the idea from this guy/gal: https://forum.xda-developers.com/xp...olution-proximity-sensor-fix-z-ultra-t3595525
Hi,
I have problem with the proximity sensor, that automatically start other calls.
How can i solve the problem?
tks
I don't know if it can be calibrated or there are some rom where it works better, what I do to mitigate the problem is turn off the screen after I answer/start a call.

Why are you convinced it's due to the proximity sensor?
The proximity sensor does nothing during a call other than turn off the screen when the speaker comes close to your ear.

Probably because screen stays on during a call and you do all sort of crazy things with your ears.
Calibrating proximity sensor from my experience does very little to help with this problem.
What @MrCrayon suggested is probably the best solution

So the problem is that it doesn't turn off the screen and touching your face to the display triggers what you don't want.
The proximity sensor of our phone has a very narrow detection area. The space is located in the area below the top speaker outputs (top left). The ear should preferably be attached at this point during a call. So not in the middle of the top edge of the phone as usual. It is definitely uncomfortable. In addition, the sensor is less responsive if the phone is not in a vertical position. The proximity sensor is probably the biggest weakness of this phone.
The best way to check its function is to use the AndroSensor app.
