Hey All,
I unfortunately messed around with the LTE Band Settings on my US 998 (US Cellular) in the hidden menu and am now worried that the phone is locking to specific bands. Right now, no matter how many times I reset network settings and restart the phone, it will only lock to one band (12 or 4). The lock is dependent on which LTE Band Setting I select. Anyone know where in the hidden menu I can reset the band selection? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

I had a similar issue... I turned on airplane mode and then turned it off and this fixed it... This was with Model H930, which doesn't have the option to select bands.. I.e there is no checkbox and it uses the band you select!

Looks like our phones have different options/settings then. I'm using RX Monitor, an app that shows you neighboring cells. I've been toggling airplane mode, restarting, switching to auto for hours now and it only sees the band that I've selected. Going crazy here.

Hmm.. That's how my menus look like too...
Make sure your 3G is set to automatic and for 4G, as I said toggling airplane mode fixed the band issue for me...
It might also be worth selecting the mobile network again, search for all networks and then select yours...

Mine only shows Band 3.... Now listen to what I did... I selected Band 7 in hidden menu and RX monitor showed all Band 7 sites... Turned on and off airplane mode and connect the Band 3... All sites were Band 3... Main thing to note is that Band 7 signal is much weaker then Band 3 for me... Is this the same for you on Band 4 and 12? if Band 4 signal is stronger your phone is designed to connect to Band 4 over 12 to save battery...
Thanks,
Sean
Yeah, if I select a band, it will only show that Band in Neighbor Cells. If I switch Airplane Mode on and off, it still connects to the same band. If I pick a different band, then it will use that band until I select a different one. The main thing I'm trying to figure out is this - Does turning airplane mode on and off change bands for you? Or not?

Yes it does change band... If I have selected Band 7 in the LTE hidden menu, when I turn airplane mode on and off it goes back to Band 3 which has the better signal!

Finally got it to work again! The second factory reset was the trick!
This has been something I was thinking about. I was playing around last week and I used a hidden menu via dialer to look for LTE bands that my phone might support (there is a thread here on XDA where a member wanted to see what bands our Cdn phone supports, and I accessed a menu and the screen flashed and disappeared before I could read it lol...I know, I know...., )
Since then I have been getting crappy LTE reception in places I have had no issues before, and it has been killing me as I have been trying to remember what screen I was trying to look at. I was looking for a way to reset the radio somehow. I think your situation and mine are related.

Hey I got a P509 with cyanogen 9 bluepill on it. for whatever reason my connection bounces every now and then from 3g to edge...no good reason for it...I almost always have a full set of bars when I'm at home. Now I have an option to connect only at 2g speeds but is there any way to prevent it from going from 3g to edge? maybe an app or setting?
not happening with me

i live on east coast(not telling you any more)
Try using 3g only option.
1. Dial *#*#4636#*#*
2. Click 'Phone information'
3. Scroll down to the first dropdown and select WCDMA Only
If you dont get good signal in this option then i think its probably a problem in your network or location:silly:

I live 45 mins south of chicago. I get full bars everywhere outside my house. Inside I get between 3-4 bars (4 being full)
Dialing that number pulled up a testing menu, within that testing menu I was able to click on phone info and set wcdma only. Thank you that should do it. I used to have that option when I was runing the old 2.2.2 original android system but It was under wireless and networks not testing lol.
As far as the latest CM afaik I'm using the latest "stable" version. I would rather stay away from nightlies and such as this is my full time phone.
In either case this should be solved. Can't really test it as its kind of random lol but be assured I'll be back if it messes up haha.
I just switched from a rooted One XL that was running Scott's CleanRom 4.5DE to a new One X+ that I've unlocked and rooted.
One of the features I miss the most is the ability to force the phone into 3G for most of my use with the ability to turn on 4G when I am watching video or something that requires more data.
Is there an app that works well at switching back and forth easily? I did a search in the play store and there are a couple in there but they seemed to be geared for phones that are CDMA/LTE rather than H+/LTE.
Thanks!!!

I'm using Widgetsoid...add a widget to the screen and choose the "4G" plugin. That will bring you to the radio menu where you can select GSM/WCDMA only instead of GSM/WCDMA/LTE.
I use Phone Info by [email protected]
but the setting has to be changed every time you reboot

You may need to toggle the radio off/on after you change between 3G/4G to force it after you make a change.

You just have to make a apn for 4g network then you just go into apn and select the 4g apn or the lte apn

Seems no matter which I pick it just resets to the standard option.
If I turn the radio off first I can set whatever I want, but, upon turning back one I still get 'LTE' even if it isn't the selected network type.
EDIT: I see I have the same problem as 'moregadget' in that no matter what I do it just seems to go back to its default settings. It must be some BS AT&T did to prevent us from opting out of the battery sucking LTE connection.
I am on an unlocked bootloader & rooted on the Elegancia 3.1.0 AT&T rom.

So I was loading the Team Venom ViperXL+ 1.2.0 ROM yesterday and had a moment where I felt like an idiot. As I was selecting the items on the ROM that I wanted to load I ran across the area where I select what 3G/4G icons I want and I suddenly realized something I haven't seen on the One X+ forum but was prevalent on the original One X.
When you have the AT&T 4G icons in use you can't manually select the network however when you load a ROM that allows you to use the typical H+/3G icons that I believe are on the international version you can.

I am new to root and ROMs so perhaps I overlooked a setting.
I just rooted my phone and flashed CM 10.2 a few days ago and I cannot get 4G anymore. I can only get 3G. I have tried a few fixes like dialing *#*#4636#*#* and adjusting the APN settings but nothing worked. I have the LTE button ON and I am wondering if I am still getting 4G because I have LTE on and it's just showing 3G. But I don't think that's the case.
Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated!

My personal experience, living in a fringe signal area, is that AOSP roms just don't have as strong a signal as TW roms (it presumably has to do with how the RIL had to be hacked/reverse-engineered to work for AOSP). I would prefer running AOSP, but unfortunately in my experience on my S3 and Note2, where I am located on the fringe of full 4G coverage areas, I have the same issues as you: on TW, full, fast, 4G; on AOSP, very obviously slow 3G or 1X.
Edit to say I've only tried 4.2.2 ROMs, haven't tried the 4.3 ones yet, so if I'm handing out wrong/outdated info, I'd love to be corrected.
I am now running a stock 4.1.2 ROM and still cannot get 4G. I now for some reason can't even dial *#*#4636#*#*. When I try it just says "Welcome to Verizon Wireless, this call cannot be completed as dialed." Anyway to get that number to work so I can check my networks again?

Try going into settings and factory reset phone now. If that doesnt work, reboot into stock recovery and factory reset from there and reboot. That seems to restore signal for those of us that got stuck in roaming mode from the Carbon thread. Might help your problem too
So I decided to re-flash CyanogenMod 10.1, adjusted the APN settings again, and I have 2 bars of 4G right now. Usually 4G will flash a couple times and change to 3G, but it is staying 4G, so hopefully it stays that way!
Well it stayed 4G for a bit until I turned WiFi on. The moment I turned it on, my 4G went to 3G. I turned WiFi off and I still have 3G. Anyone know what would cause this?
EDIT: My network type shows eHRPD with 3G, where as when I had 4G (before I turned my WiFi on) it showed LTE. If this helps any.

Do a search on towers in your areas. If I remember correctly the closest tower to you in right by the interstate by the new (now not so new) MCD's in Security. That tower had alot of problems in the area past the Olympics complex all the way back to Peterson because of the radio towers for the Jets. I have been gone for almost 3 yrs so don't take what i say as truth tho. Just how it was when i was there.

I've had that problem before. .I used a mod like this.
This mod is from DroidXcon, Try this and hopefully it will work. (make a backup of your buld.prop first)
Instructions:

4)Scroll to the bottom of screen and add the following lines
Code:
ril.sales_code=LOL
ro.csc.sales_code=LOL
5)Hit the save button at the top right hand corner of the screen(looks like a disk)
6)Once this is done saving restart the phone
7)After restarting go to Settings>More Settings>Mobile Networks>Access Point Names>Menu Button>+ New APN
8)Add desired carriers APN info, when finished hit menu button and save
9)Power down and change to your desired SIM card if you hadn't already done so
10)Power back on and go to Settings>More Settings>Mobile Networks> Access Point Names (if done properly you should see the APN data you entered for your respective carrier).
11)Select the respective APN listing and then you should have working data

Bump... also having this issue. Trying CM 10.2 for the first time since August. It had Bluetooth issues back then, so I've been running Bean's ROM until yesterday. Can't get 4G serivce in what is absolutely a saturated 4G area...
Was able to fix the issue by wiping the phone completely (including internal storage!), installing Bean's ROM, doing a factory reset, then coming back.
FWIW I always wipe internal storage when going back and forth between 4.1 and 4.2+ roms, seems to alleviate any SD card issues that can arise from the changes to filesystem in 4.2.
Be careful if you play around with the service menu on your Xperia Z Ultra, I just ran into a major issue (bug)?
I looked at the various options in the Service menu and one is about Radio Bands, but when you select it you have only 1 choice "USA Radio Bands".
Once selected, no way to change back to a different region and the phone simply gets disconnected from the Network with no way to re connect.
I'm currently going through a Factory Reset which seems to fix it.

I have an LG V30 with Sprint. Last week I noticed my phone wouldn't connect to LTE/4G network even in places where I know there is good service and other Sprint phones around me are fine. So right now it only connects to 3G and even then is mostly keeps going into roaming and won't go back to 3G until I toggle mobile connection on/off. I've tried just about everything I can do. Turned the phone on/off. Checked for updates. Toggled mobile network connection settings. Network settings reset. I even factory reset it and the problem persists. What very little I could find mention of this problem online mentions messing with the APN settings, but I'm not able to do that. For what it's worth the phone still connects to wifi just fine.
Any advice or help would be appreciated because I'm really lost here and it's becoming a real problem for my phone to barely connect to anything unless I'm on wifi.

SCRTN is a wonderful thing, solved problems for me many times when I was on various Sprint MVNOs.
But it only works with CDMA networks and phones (Sprint & Verizon).
For stubborn network problems on other non-CDMA models and networks I found the engineering/service menu factory reset to be a life saver. In particular did it solve a lack of LTE connection after a "partial" T-Mobile SIM unlock. To be clear, it loses the SIM unlock, which allowed me to unlock anew (and fully this time). Just be aware of that.
1) Backup everything, as the phone will be wiped. If yours is a network unlocked carrier model, make sure you have an unlock code (or unlock approval if T-Mobile).
2) Remove your Google account to disable Android Device Reset Protection.
3) Dial *#546368#*932# (replace 932 with your model number). This should open the service menu. From there SVC Menu - Factory Reset (R&D Only).
This takes quite a bit longer than normal Factory Reset. Your phone is now TRULY back to factory state.
While I haven't experienced any problems after doing this, I cannot guarantee that it is risk free or that there are no side effects that I just haven't detected.
So I would ONLY do this as a last resort.
