Can imei number lead to fraud ? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

If someone get to know my mobile phone imei number , can anyone hack my mobile and access my important private data and hack camera/microphone of my mobile phone to spy on me using the imei number of mobile phone ?
I will be waiting for response and really appreciate it .
Thankyou .

Thread moved to Q&A,
To answer your question, yes it can. We do not allow discussions on this site on how to change your IMEI number for this reason. They cant do as you suggest, most new smartphones are now encrypted. You data is safe, what they can do is clone your phone and pretend to be you, getting your phone number etc.

I didnot understand what does it mean, please explain it to me

IMEI number on the device is a number given to a mobile device with network connection capabilities which supposed to be unique. If you're known IMEI copied to another device it will be identified as your device. If there is a regulation adapted, for example in Turkey the IMEI is visible on the receipt and technically it means you now own the IMEI, depending where the device is used it can create legal problems.
Your sim card contains a communication key in order to communicate with station. Your phone number is assigned to your sim card. With only your phone number it's not possible to access your device, calls or messages. Depending on the encryption protocol, if one can intercept unencrypted network pairing, it is possible to intercept network communication. But, cloning the sim card would be much easier to intercept communication.
Imitating IMEI number is easy, results depend on regulations. To imitate the number with just knowing is not that easy.

Thankyou
Thankyou guys for sparing time to help me. I really appreciate it.
Thankyou for helping me.. God bless.

disable gsm

hi, i recently asked about disabling GPRS which i have now done through my network provider.problem is, it's still possible to access the web via GSM. does anyone know how I can permanently disable any access to the web - even if the phone is reset? O2 say they can't Block access to the GSM number. I have to do this - or get rid of my phone.
maybe if there were a program which would block any atempt to modem using gsm you could put it in the extented rom
but really it's a bit like trying to make sure nobody call a surden nr from a phone but having to do so in your end and not in the operator end
it's only possible if some hack program can block all attempts to connect using anything but usb
Disable GSM
Thanks for that. Pardon my ignorance - but what is my extended Rom? How do I but thing in there? Is such a program available?
On my settings, I notice that the GSM number has a password associated with it. Does anyone know if I can apply to change my password. That way - if the phone is hard-reset, it will try to set up a connection with the default password - which woyuld then be invalid. That way, I could ensure that only I have internet access and only when I manually input the password.

Hate to even mention this but as a last resort you could damage the SIM card port or have siemens disconnect the connector to GSM or SIM if possible, that would take out the phone option.
Ah, but wouldn't that disable the phone completely? i still need the phone to make ordinary calls...
Thanks though Iggy. Know you say that you hate to mention it, and I know I must sound like a complet Philistine Monkey for wanting to do this. But I bought the XDA principally for its connectivity to MS Office, and for the fact its a phone. I couldn't give two hoots about using the internett. it costs too much anyway, and others have access to the phone and know how to reset, use the net, then reset again - and restore the info. Thus making it look like it hasn't been used. (though I can check the call register etc).
So you see I need to do this - to protect my wallet & my kids...
As a very last resort - I'll sell the XDA. buy a seperate PDA with no mobile connectivity, then buy a standard mobile instead.

Sorry Damian Gardiner, did'nt quite understand before that you still needed the phone functionality. Just a quick question, for you to connect to an ISP is that not a data call (whether by GSM or CDMA or Normal phone line) and if so I thought it was possible for your provider to disable data calls?????? Don't really what I am talking about, just thinking out loud.
The way that I disable mine is in the [My Connections] settings where it asks to "Select a modem", I pick the "Hayes Compatible Modem" which does not exist in the XDA. So the device cannot dial out my ISP number. When I actually want to connect to my ISP, I pick "Cellular Line". Actually, if you pick "Cellular Line" it just counts as voice minutes. This can be very useful especially during weekends. It is quite slow though. If you pick GPRS then it counts as data, which is additional service.
Give it a try.
Pat
If your provider disables both GPRS and CSD, you can't make any data calls at all. CSD is what provides the ability to dial a provider.
Wouldnt it just work when you delete ALL connections on the XDA?
That way the device won't be able to connect straight away and thus alwys comes up for some user interaction. . .
When I am on my own network I use CSD (ie. dial-up) because it counts as voice minutes (and I don't ever use all the minutes of my bundle)
When I am abroad I use GPRS (cheaper than Roaming CSD)

[Q] Samsung Dive Call Forward Feature not working with New SIM

Here's the problem.
I start using my SGS2 with my older SIM (lets call it SIM1), and all features of SamsungDive worked. Later, I got my number ported to new Service Provider and got new SIM (lets call it SIM2).
Now from SamsungDive account all remote features are working, except Call/Message Forwarding. When I click on Call/Message Forwarding in SamsungDive I get following Notification:
"After the SIM card of the mobile is changed, you cannot use the forwarding function in the SamsungDive service."
My understanding is that SamsungDive is not aware that now SIM2 is my primary SIM. How do I fix it? I have tried following:
1. Tried Deleting account from SamsungDive: It says its deleted but I am able to log in again
2. Tried Removing Samsung Account from SGS2, but it failed, it say other apps are using this account and only way i can do it by restoring factory defaults. Don't want to do that.
Please help.

The IEMI number is device-specific - nothing at all to do with the SIM card.
Did anybody find a solution for this?

Same problem here, I have Samsung Galaxy Note N7000.. I guess it's about he meant the IMSI, which is unique per SIM card, just like the IMEI for the mobile device
Samsung Dive Call forward(solved)
Dear guys, I manage to get it done. Just remove your Samsung Account( not Google account) in your phone (setting --> account), and after that re-sign in the account again you Samsung Account. After that log into SamsungDive and you will notice your device is without phone numbers. Enter your current phone number and there you go :good:

[Q] HTC Legend 'Connection Problem or Invalid MMI'

Please delete the post
That's strange how a USSD code could indirectly screw over the whole device. I would have said that the operator has stopped supporting that particular code, but now I really don't know. Unless I read something incorrectly, it's probably how your network handles outgoing USSDs.
Regarding how your phone would often flash between no signal/fine signal, have you tried checking your mobile operator settings? Specifically 2G/3G toggle as I imagine you're on a no data prepaid service.

No mobile network but data works

Hi all,
So my friend has a galaxy s 3 and he's not getting service so I said i'll take a look at it.
So i rooted it and changed roms and stuff and I put my sim in and add the apn settings of Giffgaff and
I got data connection H+ but then I tried to make a call and it says No mobile network phone.
I checked the imei and doesn't appear to be corrupt and I checked *#0011# and it said IMEI CERT = Pass.
So don't know what the problem is and the phone is sim unlocked .
I checked online to make sure that the phone he gave me wasn't blacklisted or anything just in case lol
Thanks!
Have a read of the 'efs know this stuff' sticky in the general forum.

Must be hardware failure then..If phone is not stolen/blocked different stock software doesn't work imei is intact apn settings are ok and patched modems kernels not working than all options are pointing to some sort of hardware failure.

Getting a H+ signal is different from actually getting a working data. Try to check if data is really working (browsing etc).
If there's no data even with the right APN, means the phone is probably black-listed from the carrier or you need a new (patched) modem. The right modem will solve this issue if it's not black-listed
If the data works but no phone calls, means you can try to flash stock rom and see if the problem persists.
If you were on 4.3, don't flash to 4.1.2 btw
PS: There have been a lot of refurbished/refreshed Sammy phones on the market. Their hardware issues are well known like bluetooth stops working etc etc. So if he/she got a refurb, then probably hardware issue as well.

Data sometimes works even if the phone is black-listed depending on the carrier and their implementation policies. Wifi always works though.
You mentioned changing roms.
So which rom are you currently using?
More questions:
Can you try stock 4.3 for your device/carrier?
Are you using the same telcom operator (carrier)?
Is your phone carrier-locked?

Help need for registering bank app on non registered mobile number device.

Hello Team,
I need your help to sort out bank app registration/Activation. I registered my indian phone number to one of the banks. Whenever, I try to register the bank app, it is sending an activation sms to my register phone number and if that number is on the same device which i am trying to activate the bank app then the app is getting activated/registered.
Now, I went to USA and i am not carrying a different device . This registered indian number is not with me in usa but it is in india on a different device. I want to use my bank app on my usa mobile but when i am trying to activate the bank app, it is sending the verification sms to my registered mobile number which is on another device in india.
Is there any way i can register the bank app by manipulating or tricking my USA device as my registered mobile number device?
Long back, i tried something like installing some sms app on my usa device and if we copy and paste the sms which was sent to registered mobile number, it will trick the usa device as registered number device and will activate the bank app but i forgot the name of that app and exact procedure how to do it.
Someone please help me with it step by step.
Thanks for your time and assistance.
Regards,
Harish
Note: I have y registered mobile number on another device in india where i can manage to get all the sms sent to it.
