Hi, ive had marshmellow on my rooted Oppo F1s for about a month now and find it to be a lot crappier than what lollipop was, the features and all that, a lot of customization apps just dont work at all and everything reverts back to default after a couple hours use, the list goes on, basically im just really unhappy with it.
So my question is, how can I downgrade back to lollipop, while still keeping my root privileges? Im currently downloading the latest stock lollipop firmware, and I still have the files on my sd card when i first rooted-
i used this guide https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/tutorial-root-oppo-f1s-flashtool-6-0-t3651220
if i follow those steps again but with the lollipop firmware here
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/oppo-f1s-lollipop-firmware-t3625510
will it work or do i need to take other steps? do i even need to re-do everything again, could i boot into recovery mode and just install the firmware from there, will that work? i know all my data will probably be lost again and thats fine, im just confused as to how i can downgrade the easiest way.

I just recently got the gingerbread update for my Fascinate and it didn't fix my ongoing GPS issue, in fact it made it worse. I'm going to root my phone and try a few custom ROMs to see if one of them will fix the issue. My question is, should I downgrade Android before rooting the phone or does it even matter? Is it even possible to downgrade using the Factory Reset option on the phone? Any and all help is much appreciated.
Take some time and read this guide...you dont need to root in order to flash a custom rom. Pick a section that interests you and follow directions!

I rooted my z2 (.167 4.4.4) and then let it update back to kitkat which kept the root (though i cant update supersu).
How would i go about installing a recovery (dual?) now since i missed that step before. would i need to downgrade again?
if so ill just leave it for now as im not going through that process again

Thank you I'll check it out when I get back from work.
I've had my VZ S4 since sometime around Dec of 2013. Previously was on a DroidX, I've really honestly never had any problems rooting or installing custom rom's on my phones (A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU HERE that made that possible) so I'm not a noob...but I'm not an expert either. I usually wait and read a lot of threads, follow the instructions and I've always been good to go. My S4 started at MK2, (took the OTA right out of the box, now I now better ) and with the help of K1mu's post on rooting the S4 with Saferoot everything went off with out a hitch (thank you!!). After successfully rooting the phone, I installed Safestrap, backed up the stock rom slot, created a custom rom slot and installed Hyperdrive 11...everything is working flawlessly.
So fast forward a year to KitKat I returned to XDA...read and read and read and followed the Dev's instructions and was good to go again. I know it involved Safestrap-I545-3.75-KitKat-A03.apk, TowelRoot, Odin and ALL_VZW_I545VRUFNC5_I545VZWFNC5_1151670_REV06_user_low_ship_Multi_Cert_Tar.md5. Definitely was one of muniz_ri post. Any way I basically used Odin...flashed back to factory stock followed muniz_ri post and was good to go again with KitKat(Thank You!!)
So now to the present, about a week or so ago I had an OTA screen pop asking to update, it actually showed 2 updates available (don't know if there is a log in the S4 that keeps track of the updates). So I came back here of course and started reading and reading and reading...and I was ready to begin the process in this thread by muniz_ri: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...-to-update-to-i545oc1-5-0-1-keeproot-t3096558 which again I am sure would have went flawlessly. Then I had an accident...I had been dismissing the update (it popped up a lot ) when the unthinkable happened...I pressed yes, the phone went thru the update process and I don't know what update it was but it wasn't Lolllipop...so I was like phewwww, clicked on my RootCheck (JRummy) and it said Rooted 4.4.2 KitKat (NK4), SuperSu 2.46 so I figured everything was ok. Not so, I don't know what the upgrade was but I no longer have root or access to safestrap, SuperSu or any apps that require root...and this is where I need guidance from the masters. I have a TWRP/Safestrap back up (stock-2014-12-08--19-33-37 KOT49H.I545VRUFNK1) from right after rooting for KitKat, nothing else...just root I'm pretty sure of that. So what would be the best way to fix? Is there a way to re-root the phone in it's present condition? Can I use the TWRP back up some how with out SafeStrap? How far back can I down grade with Odin using a VWZ factory image? Any idea what happened with the update prior to Lollipop? Sorry if this was long winded, just trying to figure out the best way moving forward. I don't really care about the data on the phone. Before going forward I'll do A Keis back up of the stuff I want to save. I appreciate any help/answers/suggestions...Jinx
Long story short:
I ended up getting upgraded from VRUFNK4 to the VRUGOF1 thanks to my good friend, now my question is can I root and/or install any custom ROMs via Odin/SS/CC (or whatever that other thing is),etc.?
Right now, as far as I know, it is full stock (not even rooted considering she used Kies for an "Emergency download and initialization" for the upgrade, needless to say that's the last time I let her use my phone while I'm in work for 8 hours!) but I really am not too keen of this "Lollipop" crap!
Even if I have to remain Lollipop, I think it would be better on a custom ROM and that's ONLY if I can NOT, what-so-ever downgrade to a custom or stock!
Ok, never mind that last question about rooting considering I found this guide (http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-verizon/general/samsung-s4-i545-verizon-of1-root-t3254434) which did it fine for me, I was hoping for a root aside from KingRoot which was found, now for a means of custom ROMs is all that remains, anything please?
Hi, were you able to root F1 using those steps? I'm new to flashing, i think rooting this version means you can install other firmware?
Hi,
I am completely new to custom Android ROMs. I have a Verizon Galaxy S4 with OF1 update. I managed to root my phone using KingRoot, but I'm trying to figure out how to create some kind of backup of my stock ROM. Basically I want to be able to restore my phone back to factory default if I ever run into problems. I read that once I delete something with root, then I cannot get it back again... hence I want the ability to restore my phone to original factory default. I know the GS4 is an old phone now, but I want to squeeze a year of life before I get a new phone (and get some experience with modding Android).
A lot of guides on the internet seem to be suited for older versions of Android on the Galaxy S4, so I didn't find them helpful. Can anyone give me a starting point?

I'm not by any means promoting my videos but I have a few YouTube videos that walk you through the process to get rid of KingRoot and install SuperSU and Install Flashfire. With Flashfire, you can backup your stock ROM for future use. Here are some video links: https://youtu.be/LAENraWBNVM and https://youtu.be/g31TkZE6Vp0
With Flashfire, I would recommend playing around with a couple custom ROMs out there from @stang5litre
