I gather that it is necessary to unlock the bootloader in order to root - is this possible to do on the Verizon version? If so, could someone point me towards a tutorial, as I have only found posts on rooting, not unlocking the bootloader.

with all the security related threats recently i'm realizing i really need to re-lock my bootloader.
any links on how to do this? i've searched and it's all about unlocking and a few on un-rooting.
i need to retain root, but want a locked bootloader so if i lose my phone it's less likely to have its data siphoned.
