Hi,
I was hoping if someone could answer a quick question for me. I did look around and I think I have one of my answers but wanted to check.
Can the phone be rooted without unlocking the bootloader? I think I saw that it can.
Does the Motochopper exploit work on the phone?
Finally can the bootloader be unlocked without using HTCDev?
Also, can someone tell me if changes made to the partitions via a DD stick?

Hy!
I have an easy question. Some people have Branded SK17i, which says: Bootloader Unlock allowed: NO...
So, any chance to flash this without unlock Bootloader? I thinking in a method like Motorola phones (Defy, etc).
Any chance to work this?
Thanks a lot!
I think i fell upon someone who had the same issue. I think you have to debrand it first, then you will be able to unlock the bootloader using the Test Point method. Not entirely sure though.
What you can do is go through this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1285285
I am quite certain that there was a solution in that thread somewhere.
No way. In service menu i got: "Bootloader unlock allowed: No". I debranded it with Wotan (2.3.4 UK ROM), but i can't unlock bootloader.
I think it's not a problem, because a lot of Motorola has locked bootloader, and they have CFW.
We can root it, with zergRush, we only need a xRecovery or CWM Recovery port, and we got Highway to Hell
Interest thing: after S1tool Method in the i saw "r9xxx", not "R9xxx". In X10 Mini/Mini Pro it means the unlocked bootloader. So what?
If you checked the thread thoroughly you would have got your answer.

Hope this clears the waters for you
Yep, I know this way, but I want to make an method, which don't need unlocked bootloader, like Motorola Phones.
Umm.... What? Motorola phones are hated because of their locked bootloader, resorting to a software solution to bypass the bootloader lock in order to get it to "fastboot" can only resort to problems.
Plus, ROMs in Motorola phones work way differently, you have to restore a cwm backup and then install the rom blah blah blah.
So its not easier in any way.
guys, here is the solution to unlock bootloader via testpoint method.
clear and easy to follow.

this will help a lot of people if you succeed...
i do not understand why only some phones of the same model have bootloader unlock allowed:no
good luck

I was looking only half of a day and then got to this post - thanks.... Damn you ASUS for you wicked tricks
I like CWM on my Desire phone... kinda want me riverdancing... void my warranty
Someone correct me if I am wrong but changing out a recovery.img requires bootloader access. Unless a dev can crack the bootloader or the manufacturer allows it, def hard, help that helps.

.21 downgrade & unlock bootloader
The 9.2.4.21 firmwware presently cannot be rooted. The way to get root is to use version 9.2.4.15 or earlier, (I used .11) using a linking trick and then use ViperMOD to complete with root and unlock.
Tutorial by Wolf849 - over here - will get you to .11 firmware and working super user / root access.
Then use ViperMOD PrimeTime by - viperboy - which includes an option to install Clockwork Mod recovery and install the Asus Unlock Tool.
Once the bootloader is unlocked, you can install a custom recovery, such as CWM, CWM Touch, Open Recovery or other as you wish.
Unlocking does have the penalty of voiding any warranty and you might possibly get into a boot loop, which can be resolved with;
Code:
adb shell dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p3 bs=1 count=13
Roach2010 has a thread here explaining the boot loop issue in better detail and Diamondback has some very helpful unbricking tips.
Is it possible to get temp root only in such a way it doesn't mark the bootloader as TAMPERED?
For what it's worth, there is only a handful of reasons I would ever need root access and quite honestly I don't see the need to be rooted 100% of the time.
However, I don't feel the need to have to unlock the entire bootloader from HTC Dev just to install an APK or two.
Thanks for any pointers!

You only need to unlock the bootloader if you want to flash custom roms and such. If you just want root access for apps just use zedomax's root and dont unlock the bootloader. You only get the tampered messages if you unlock the bootloader.

Actually that's wrong. They're two different things. If you root, it'll show tampered, whether unlocked or not. Locking or unlocking will not effect tampered status. Any root will show tampered. It goes away if you use RUU.
To answer the question asked, no. At the current time it is not possible to root without tampered bootloader

Yea i didnt word it very well. I assumed the reason the op was asking is so he could get back completely to stock if need be. If he only roots and then runs the ruu he would be back to stock. Thanks for clearing it up.
Thanks for the info - I didn't understand the mechanism that triggers the bootloader to show tampered.
Ultimately, I was looking into determining whether or not ICS encrypted the mail (not gmail) database, regardless of the device itself being encrypted or not.
Hello everyone. I just purchased an HTC One on AT&T. I want to root it, which from everything I have heard, means that I have to unlock the bootloader. I have no interest in flashing custom ROMS, I just want to use root apps like Titanium Backup and Wireless tether. If anyone knows about an exploit that allows for root without bootloader unlock, please let me know.
I also want to unlock the SIM/carrier lock via an unlock code. What I want to know is:
Should I do the SIM unlock first, then the bootloader unlock? Or the other way around?
Once the SIM/carrier lock is removed, will the bootloader unlock process have any effect on it?
Thank you,
Nick
Motochopper supposedly will root without bootloader unlock. Revone will grant s-off, allowing bootloader unlock without involving Htcdev. Sim unlock is unrelated and not affected by any of this.
I gather that it is necessary to unlock the bootloader in order to root - is this possible to do on the Verizon version? If so, could someone point me towards a tutorial, as I have only found posts on rooting, not unlocking the bootloader.
