I'm running an unlocked Samsung Galaxy Note 2 I317 ATT with cleanROM ACE 5.0, Busybox, Titanium Backup, and other rooted apps.
However, when I flash a Lineage Nougat ROM for this phone, it now states that it's not rooted and Titanium, Magisk, Busybox, and others cannot be run because there's no root.
Root checker also reports no root in Nougat.
Any insight in fixing this appreciated.
Thanks
I found out you need Lineage's own SU addon to be rooted.
Also, my TWRP needed to be updated to flash the addon...a double whammy.

Hello,
I rooted my S4 with the motochopper tool in a dev forum here, no issues and worked perfectly. I was restoring my data when I installed MyBackup Pro, which complained about an out of date version of BusyBox. Looks like the one in the motochopper tool is 1.19.4, it wants at least version 1.20.
Has anyone else seen this after the root? Can I update BusyBox with the app in the play store, or is there a reason the old build was in the motochopper build from the dev forum?
Thanks in advance.
I updated my busy box version to the latest and have had zero issues.
Sent from your mom's house with my rooted S4.
Hey all,
I was recently given the Verizon galaxy note 2, the phone already had the stock 4.4.2 nd7 installed, after some digging I was able to root using Ghettoroot v0.2.2
I just came from the galaxy s3 and am comfortable with CWM and Odin and what not, but am definitely still a noob with the galaxy note 2.
The main question is, am I going to be able to flash a custom rom or a new kernel or anything fun with this? or did I basically just gain root access for apps and stuff only?
Any other recommendations are more than appreciated...

Can't flash custom recoveries with just root on Note 2 i605. You have to have an unlocked bootloader which hasn't been achieved from 4.3 and up on this phone. So no custom roms or kernels.
I have the Verizon Z2 tablet Model SGP561 firmware 23.0.1.E.0.208 Android 4.4.4.
I am trying to root, install custom recovery, and install ROM's. From what I'm reading this is not possible. In fact, there is no easy solution to obtain root. From what I read, I will have to downgrade the Firmware to Android 4.4.2 and then upgrade using a patch to 4.4.4.
The thing is all of the information is pretty old(last year). Has there been any progress made, or am I stuck? I would love to Root this and run any ROM, even if it is a stock ROM.
Any help/advise would be greatly appreciated!
I have a Verizon Z2 LTE SGP561 with the latest update of 4.4.4 and i managed successfully to Root it with the latest KingRoot apk.
It was very easy - just download the KingRoot apk to your device , run it from the device and it will do the work.
After it will complete you will have KingRoot user which is the superuser app for permission, no need to install SuperUser of SuperSU.
I checked with root-checker to verify and indeed it was rooted.
even though the bootloader is locked you are rooted.
I managed to remove all Verizon bloatware apps.
You can find the latest KingRoot apk in the following link:

hey i was wondering if i could change to twrp from safestap, i am using a verizon samsung galaxy s4 l545 that has been rooted and running custom roms since new. right now i am currently running the safestrap version of stangfire 5.0 v2. ive never taken a over the air update from verizon ive always updated from different methods listed on xda or listed by the developers for their roms. i would like to be able to use twrp to have acess to different roms other then the safestrap ones but im not sure what is the best way to install it or what version to install. any help would be appreciated
thanks
Unless you are one of the lucky ones to have the MDK bootloader you will not be able to use TWRP.
If you don't know, the easiest way to find out is to install Samsung Phone Info from the Play Store.
If you are not on the MDK bootloader you could very easily brick your phone trying to install a custom recovery.
sent from a Galaxy far far away.
I was hoping to install a custom rom as well but the way I rooted it last time it soft bricked, I used kingroot
Did you use the desktop or via the app on the phone? The app on the phone plus using SuperSU Me Pro should work. Otherwise, you will have to downgrade back to 4.4.2 NB1 update and root that then update via process mentioned here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...-to-update-to-i337oc3-5-0-1-keeproot-t3075814

Note - there are multiple security updates for 5.0.1 so you should read through that thread.
