Huawei Mate 10 Pro Face Unlock - Huawei Mate 10 Questions & Answers

Hello guys, i read this article before. i applied this my ex phone (oneplus 3t) and it was successfull.
But I can't set a Trusted Face in Smart Lock at mate 10 pro.
How can i do that?
https://android.gadgethacks.com/how-to/get-oneplus-5ts-face-unlock-any-phone-0181291/
(Get the OnePlus 5T's Face Unlock on Any Phone)

I don't think you can. Huawei have removed it from Smart Lock.

Since Honor V10 has the face unlock (in future rom), maybe can port the app to Mate 10 series.
But in my view face unlock might be unnecessary in the sense that you have to raise the phone anyway for face unlock and whereby fingerprint is faster as you don't have to align phone to your face. However face unlock will help when phone is docked during driving. And this leads me to guess that one could have their phone on a stand up dock on the work desk as well and use face unlock without needing to lift the phone.

why removed? all of android phones use it.
we are using android 8 but we can use a very important option...

Some news has come about with the Honor View 10. It now has Face Unlock which is very nice as it starts checking the face as soon as you take the phone off a table so the power button doesn't even need to be pressed.
Also the Mate 10 lite is supposedly getting Face unlock according to some leaks.
Hopefully this means that the face unlock feature will also make its way to the flagship phone... Mate 10 and Mate 10 pro.

I would almost bet money that the Mate 10 (Pro) doesn't get Face Unlock. Huawei is notoriously bad and just simply random with updates that add features to current phones if they don't mention these features during the introduction of the phones.
I don't really care about face unlock to be honest. It just bothers me that I spent 600+ on a flagship phone and it doesn't get the newest features while cheaper phones get them simply because they are newer. I've had a lot of Huawei / Honors phones over the last few years and while it is forgivable for medium range phones, it is simply unexpectable for flagship phones that cost as much as Samsungs, HTCs etc.
All of these companies provide consistent improvements in their software (see for example the S8 with the advanced "always-on" display - meanwhile I am almost sure that we will never get an improved software update for the "always-on" display). Even the cheaper OnePlus improve their software regularly (see the OnePlus 5T with multiple updates for their camera and updates for the Face Unlock).
The Mate 9 had almost no updates that improved anything, let alone Google security updates. I am willing to give Huawei one last chance, but they better improve their update policy a lot this time around (meaning Google security updates, Android updates as well as improving features such as face unlock, better "always-on" display etc.). Yes, the hardware is excellent on this phone - but it is simply not enough in this day and age when even companies like "OnePlus" provide better and more comprehensive update policies for less money.
I hope time will prove me wrong and we will get good updates as well as "face unlock", but so far I really doubt it.

Stop to buy these phones then..

Hope we have the same future like honor v 10

Do you really think your post is constructive? Don't think so anyway

Huawei Pakistan confirmed that the Mate 10 lite will get it.
It would be nice but I rather see Huawei keeping the promise of monthly security updates and I wanna see some polishing of the Mate 10 software.

Switching from Honor 8 - Is it worth it?

Hi guys.
So, if you've read the title, you'll know that I currently have a Honor 8 that I love, except for one thing. GOD. DAMN. EMUI. Build is great, camera is great, battery life is good, it's fast, snappy, etc... But I can't stand EMUI anymore. Late notifications, weird scrolling animations, rare security updates and, most of all, Honor has still not released the source code, which prevents devs from making a stable Custom ROM. LineageOS has been in the works for months and it works quite well, but it randomly reboots every now and then, and it won't be fixed until the source code has been released, which might be.. Never.
So, I've decided to sell it (it can still go for a decent price, I've had 305€ -$330- offers, but I have to wait to get a new phone since I don't have a backup) and go for a RN4, probably the best value for that price, that I ordered on AliExpress for about $150, shipping included.
I've seen that there are quite a lot of AOSP ROMs for the RN4 (Snap version), but are they stable enough for a daily driver ? Does the fingerprint scanner work? How is battery life? And, most of all, are you guys happy with it so far?
Since they are quite hard to get in France (people don't like to import from China), I can easily sell it for $200 if I don't like it, but I'd like your opinion on it
Thanks !
The AOSP roms are still sometimes buggy. And the camera quality is terrible. Get the oneplus 3 or 3t. The only reason id recommend a RN4 snapdragon is battery life. Trust me, the camera is terrible compared to the honor 8.

I've been on Nougat for a while now (since it was released a few months ago), the look of the launcher is a bit more stock, but the behavior of some stuff is still, well... Not great. For example some notifications show up late, if at all, lockscreen notifications are limited to one line, they don't show up on the lockscreen at all if you have a theme installed...
I use a stock Android looking theme, but yeah, I'm not a fan of the interface, it's driving me crazy.
On the other hand, I've using MIUI for a while now. I had it back when it was first released on the first Galaxy S back in 2011, then on my Nexus 4, then on my Mi3... Plus, now that there are stock ROMS available..

Mate 10 to receive 8.1, 960fps slowmo, GPU boost and more

For further details look here.
https://www.gizmochina.com/2018/06/13/huawei-announces-devices-getting-gpu-turbo-mate-10-to-get-960fps-slow-motion-too/
What do you think about that?
I'd love the speed boost but it sounds too good to be true. It will probably take until Android p ishere aswell... So long.
Very good news
This is GREAT news we'll have everything by October hopefully
I would like to know if this will improve battery life in any way as it promises more efficiency.
I actually congratulate Huawei as they have gone above and beyond what most manufacturers would do. Huawei has seriously stepped up their game in the industry. Soon they will be the new king of Android overtaking samsung

It is a future song while we are still waiting for updates to bring things like Night Mode, Face Unlock or VoLTE.... ALP-L29-C185...
i'm using 8.0.0.135(C636) build and Face unlock has been included. However with this build, it broke Google Assistant. You're unable to launch it via voice and that you have to launch int manually. GA on build 132 was working without any issue but the battery life sucks.
Isn't night mode equivalent to "eye comfort" option or is that different?

Android Q

What a deception... I was hoping Samsung to be more faster on update.
https://www.sammobile.com/2019/05/07/no-android-q-beta-samsung-galaxy-phones-not-yet
Samsung and updates not a good match my friend...if u get a samsung for updates..thats no good.
I got my samsung for the hardware and how beautifull it is. Also with one ui the phone is very snappy as it is. No need for updates as of now
seriously?
I hope no betas are released until Samsung's official one
get a pixel!!
Q is no big deal anyway. There isn't a whole lot going on with it other than Google will be able to release security updates via Play Store with their new Project Mainline. It will also give the Pixel kids something to run around and squeal about because we know how they get all puffed up when they can say they got it first. ?
Atleast it's coming this dec.

Yeah, it's true that Android Q hasn't a lot of new stuff.
No need of it now.
But, there's many manufacturers who participate to the beta. I don't understand why a big player like Samsung isn't on the list.
I wish they will participate soon.

I've been through 2 betas with Samsung and before that I was in 3 or 4 with Motorola. To be honest, Samsung doesn't have a clue on how to run a beta program. When we reported problems in the Samsung Members app, the best we got if anything at all was to submit a report through the app to the developers. As far as I know no one got feedback other than we're looking into it. Everything I reported with the S9 carried over to the Pie final. Motorola had a dedicated forum with moderators that actually passed feedback back and forth. I even spoke with a software engineer two times.
Beta with Samsung is sort of here it is, hope it works.
well,i was hoping samsung can update a new full screen gesture like android Q , MIUI 10 , oneplus 6's or maybe just build-in one hand operation in next firmware. and faster fingerprint scanning,it really sucks when you try so hard and it just not unlock the phone

Not sure I agree here. I'm running it on my Pixel 3 xl and it has many noteworthy features. There is live caption which let's you get real-time transcriptions of what is being said on any video, in any app, across the entire OS. There are systemwide UI changes like dark mode and improved gestural navigation and the back button; over 40 updates to the way security, permissions and privacy agreements are handled. Also, there are improvements to Android's security which will make them come faster thought the Playstore (Project Mainline), better parental controls, new Notification Assistant that will help you reply to incoming chats and other minor stuff. In my opinion, it is by no means a small upgrade, specially when you consider it is still in Beta 3 and will probably add even more features. So far, it runs smooth as butter for me and had great battery life.

If it follows historically anything like previous generations of Samsung phones it should arrive to the S10 family sometime next year in February or March... Just in time for Google's Android R first preview release.

Why? Samsung have no commitment to release a beta firmware to users. People today are too impatient, you need to learn to wait for these things.

? I'm buying a new high branded product to have one of the best smartphone. I'm here because I want to share my experience and to find informations from others.
What I see is that almost others brands are offering beta firmware to users and faster updates than Samsung. Why do we have to accept this?
I owned some Samsung devices in the past. Finally change my P20 Pro to try S10. But Samsung was not faster than before on updates, maybe slower.
My girlfriend know nothing about cellphone and don't care about updates. But, if you're here man and you don't care about new characteristics, what are you doing here?

You accept it because that's pretty much the way Samsung has always been and not anyone here is going to change that. When someone buys a Samsung phone, they need to accept that as a condition. I would bet money that the majority of users worldwide care less about updates as long as their phone works reliably.

Other brands may very well offer beta firmware and if what you want is for firmware to come out quickly then I suggest next time you get one of those devices but what I said was be patient, it will eventually come out. You shouldn't be here just to whine about updates not coming out, I've been on XDA for nearly ten years now and it annoys me when people complain about the speed of updates. You should want a complete update without bugs and that takes time, making a post about it won't speed up the release and just clutters up the feed.
Samsung if you see has alot of devices to take care of. They release security patches on monthly bases to phone ranging from 100-max$ they have. Also the one ui which is very heavy skin needs to be fully usable and bug less in new android q. I myself have tried betas and didn't find anything usefull expect bragging in front my friends. Apps run same or maybe 1-2% faster in Q.
With Android betas you can download a new CPU & more RAM to your device so this is why it's so important to get it quickly from the manufacturer.

Ahh the age old xda mass-debate about beta firmware.
Get yer popcorn sweet-cheekses, its gonna be a great
All this mass-debating
In all seriousness tho Samsung won't be physically be able to release firmware as quick as Google due to the extra software overlay. Its that simple lol
Samsung has NEVER been known for releasing software early so I'm not sure why anyone would whine about slow updates.
Is look Android 10 UI 2.0 beta is coming soon ?

[HELP] Mate 10 PRO bootloader RELock without code > Any other option ?

Hi again
The situation :
Mate 10 PRO BLA-L29
9.1..0.306 (C432E4R1P11) - (C432 EU version)
Stock Recovery / No more TWRP / No more Root
I've made many upgrades today starting from 8.0.0.145 to this last version. Now I just want to RELock the bootlader ; what I didn't know is that the code is also needed for the RELocking operation :BRAVO Huawei:good:
I have also figurate out that I do not have anymore the needed code...
Thus, I thought the bootlocker would relock by itself through the multiples upgrades, but nothing, it is still wide unlock.
Regarding the version I have now, what are my possibilities to RELock the bootloader without the provided code ???
Many thanks

Use the DLOAD method, that should lock your bootloader to factory state, not just re-locked.But that would also wipe your data, so make a backup first.
If you got your code from Huawei, you should check thru your emails, it might be in there. You never know when you will need it to unlock again.

Sure, but I lt seems there is no service firmware with my actual version, isn't it ?
No sûre I can downgrade to a previous version without brick my device.
I got the code from a tchat session, and I didn't make any screenshot, Big mistake indeed.
Is there any difference between a locked (#dload) and a RELock (Huawei code) method ??

B306 is only available from easy-firmware, which is paid.
You could try with B300 from here: https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=6006931924117922686
You'd need to either use an OTG cable and a memory stick and put the 'dload' folder at the root of the memory stick. After this reboot with OTG cable plugged into phone and hold vol up +´down, this will start dload mode.
Or, since you're already unlocked, copy the 'dload' folder using adb push to /data/update/dload/ (structure should be /data/update/dload/update_sd.zip and /data/update/dload/BLA-L29_hw_eu/update_BLA-L29_hw_eu.zip or whatever the cust zip was named.)
If you're booted to system you'll have to push to sdcard first, then copy or mv the files using adb shell. From TWRP you can push directly.
Next using adb shell from command prompt:
adb shell
su
echo --factory_sd_update > /cache/recovery/command
And reboot to recovery.
Hi,
Many thanks, ill try it when I'll retrieve back my phone.

If you don't have it already, get something else that's more developer friendly. Huawei stopped giving out unlock codes, and the only way now is to pay for them (which isn't cheap) using, imo, shady dealers And I'm not sure which still has unlock codes to sell.
And without unlocking you can't have Magisk.
It's fine otherwise. Battery lasts 2 days with moderate usage.

If you're asking should you buy it or not the answer would be NO.
The optimizations on the cpu side are atrocious, Myne is currently "dying" from lack of power.
Everything is getting more and more laggy, no matter the firmware.
The cpu is plenty powerful but Huawei is also plenty inexperienced in handling it properly.
Once all the limitations are removed - early stage firmware and apps cloned with package name renamed to match one of the benchmark apps you see drastic performance differences.
Best I found was rename to benchmark apps and activate power saving mode while using those apps to prevent overheating.
You'd find that the cpu is a beast, still performing more than adequate for 2019/2020. That's 60 fps stable on most of the games when the system allows it. If they had any proper thermal management that doesn't restrict it so aggressively the situation would be much different. Device heats up from normal use even, when you start gaming you're getting throttled from the get go and the throttle curve is simply out bad. Device is permanently locked in a throttling state which really sucks, heat dissipation does not exists either so there is no simple solution other than to allow for higher thermal limits or modify the device both software and hardware.
If you feel like doing this type of thing for any app you'd like to use then go ahead, do keep in mind tho that the early firmwares are burn in prone - navigation area keeps getting burned in replacement after replacement while eye protection is toggled on a schedule of 5/6 hours only.
Any 835 device should offer more performance than this, mostly since the apps are built optimised for that cpu. Look into those devices if you're looking for a cheap device. And stay away from Huawei, the mate 10 Pro might look nice and all but it's built with 0 regards to thermal management and the software doesn't help it either, pretty much a dumpster fire that I wouldn't pick up again if given the choice.
thanks so much..... i will stick to LG v20 then

LG v20 is snapdragon 820 device, you'd still get more performance out of mate 10 Pro even with the throttling. You wouldn't get much room for modifications without paying left and right for stuff to open the device, new adhesive for the back glass, 3rd party software to downgrade.
I checked price of GALAXY s8 on amazon and it's the same as LG.
If you're buying online I'd order s8 instead or some other device with 835 cpu. I'm not sure what the price is locally but if it's only mate 10 Pro vs LG v20 without any possibility of getting a 835 device then I hate to say it but go with mate 10 Pro.

Is it still worth it?

So, being the phone nerd that I am, I have no idea how I never knew about this phone till now. So! Id like to ask all of you, who have the phone, is it still worth it? Are you happy with your purchase? Did you switch to the ROG Phone 3 or the Note 20 Ultra? Hows the OS? I like to customize my phone alot so, remove any and all bloatware, root the phone and perhaps install a custom rom, etc. Is any of that possible on this phone? Ill be honest! I really just want this phone for its 7.1 inch screen. I previously had the Huawei Mate 20 X so, this looks like a very welcome upgrade. So what are your thoughts on this phone, please share?
I have BS3Pro china device. flash to global rom and this is my opinions.
What I like about this phone :
- Huge display for read cartoon/ watch some video
- beautiful 90hz screen that make my cartoon reading feel great when scroll down to next page
- Great gaming experience here
- Battery is great (if not do a "lot" of gaming) (pubg 90fps can do around 4hr before phone died)
- Fast battery charging from 0% to 100% with around 1hr
What I'm not impressive about this phone:
- Camera focusing(not autofocus) is not done they work. miss focus 80% of time
- Speaker is not loud enough. if you need to race a sound with noisy place, You will hear little sound of your phone.
- Speaker quality is decent. Not great but not worse either
- fingerprint scanner will not work if your screen have a little dirty or oily
The worst part of this phone:
- Software update(Global rom) is very slow. This phone still have miui11 and the last update is probably 2 month ago(if i'm not wrong)
- Lack of community.
- No hope for custom rom.
Summary. this is a good phone that used by few people(I assum). That's make the manufacturer lower the priority in term of software update. and blackshark company didn't have space for custom rom for their phone.
You can still unlock bootloader and install custom recovery for rooting your phone. But no custom rom were made for this phone here.
If you don't mind about custom rom, frequent software update, lack of community to discuss. this is a good phone if your prefer big one.
Phone would be worth it $400 now. ZERO updates coming, xiaomi has abandoned the BS3pro, especially the global model
I love it. If you're rooted you can customise it using swift installer, and a few other apps that work like the audio headquarters, viper, and superstatus bar, CustoMiuizer, etc. I use the Samsung notifications shade etc.
Though I wish there were ways to update the phone since I can't get update to install since I'm rooted.
Other than that. I love it. Just wish it had 120hz
tried any GSIs?
like Mitku01 said, the phone is great. You don't find a better phone with a big screen.
Global support is bad. My Black Shark 3 Pro is still on security patch 2020-06-05.
