I got old Samsung Galaxy S2 / i9100 and it still had Android 2.3.3 on it. The owner said it worked fine for him. I updated it to latest stock (4.1.2) using Kies and the phone started freezing heavily - it freezes anytime (during post-install process with Android icon, configuring apps, typing password for wifi, adding google account etc) - I didn't manage to go thru the initial setup. Sometimes there are dots/dashes on screen when it freezes and sometimes it reboots itself after the freeze.
When I flashed 2.3.5, it started to work normally again, without freezes.
When I flashed CWM-KitKatCompatible-i9100.tar (probably CWM on KitKat kernel for Odin), it freezes anytime during navigating thru CWM and it won't boot. Although flashing CWM with CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_KI3-42-v4.2-CWM4.tar (2.3.x kernel with SU and CWM integrated) works fine and CWM and phone work fine.
I tried flashing also 4.0.3 stock or different 4.1.2 over 2.3.5 with Odin, but it was freezing again.
I didn't give up and followed a guide to install LineageOS 14.1, installed TWRP (it was sometimes freezing after a while of inactivity) and managed to install the LineageOS.
Surprisingly, LineageOS 14.1 seems to run stable so far without freezing, but when I tried erasing it and installing LineageOS 11 (kitkat) instead, it was again freezing and phone didn't manage to start properly.
What do you think could be causing problems with Android 4.x on this phone?
EDIT: it seems to be related to kernel. LineageOS 14.1 was running stable, both OS and TWRP. I wiped it and installed DU 10.6 (MM) and I got crashes again - system doesn't boot and TWRP freezes anytime in a few seconds, I didn't manage even to do wipe in about 10 attempts. I only flashed DorimanX kernel via Odin (tried both Linaro and Uber and they do the same result) and crashes stopped, TWRP seems to run stable and ROM is doing 1st boot now for already over 20 minutes without any freeze.
I suspect it may have something to do with CPU voltage, frequency, memory access or something like that...
No reply so far?
I did some more attempts and found I can run KitKat (e.g. SlimSaber), but only with DorimanX kernel. If I use stock or some different kernel (like Apollo), it freezes and won't boot. So KitKat with DorimanX or LineageOS 14.1 (with stock or DorimanX kernel) seem to work stable, except charging the phone. When I am charging the phone, it reboots in both systems every few minutes when the screen is off. Any ideas how to mitigate that, e.g. using some tweaks in Stweaks? What could be different in DorimanX kernel that makes the phone stable (extept the charging)?

I was running Resurrection Remix on a Samsung Galaxy S2, which was working well, except that it was not compatible with one app. The apps developer recommended flashing Cyanogenmod. I picked CM9, because I didn't find a stable CM10 mod. Anyway, I proceeded to install CM9, and GApps. The GApps version I used was not the right one, and I rebooted without installing the correct GApps. Now, when I boot the phone, I cannot get into recovery mode, and it only displays the Cyanogenmod 9 splash screen endlessly. Kies cannot see the phone, nor can Windows 7. Is there anyone who can point me to directions on how to unbrick this phone?
Hi, as XDA doesn't allow me to ask this neither on the Omega Thread and on Ktoonsez Thread of the S4 development, I'l have to ask it here untill I have 10 posts.
I have a i9505 Galaxy S4, (I had an S3, a Note II with Omega, and an S2) and installed Omega 5.0 through the way ::indie:: indicates on Omega's thread which is as follows:
Installation Instructions:
1. Backup all your app and data so you can restore them to Omega v5.0 (I use Titanium Backup)
2. Make a full wipe (Data, System, cache, dalvik Cache) from recovery then boot to download mode immediately and flash Stock I9505XXUBMEA with odin
Get the firmware from here.
Flashing stock XXUBMEA is needed to make wifi work. Many users reported that it took them many flashes with odin to make wifi work on stock firmware.
3. Make sure all are working ok with stock XXUBMEA firmware, check if wifi + LTE (if your provider supports LTE) are working ok
4. Flash TWRP Recovery with odin, get it from here
5. Boot to TWRP Recovery and flash Omega Rom.
Wipe data from recovery is not needed, wipe your data only if you want to.
6. If LTE is not working flash this zip: I9505_Enable_LTE.zip
Ok.
Everything working great!
But then I installed Katoonsez GREAT WONDERFULL Kernel, but the device got so hot, and I could observe throught KTweaks that my cores were allways ever online and the clocks weren't adjusting well.
This happened with every governor and scheduler.
Then I could install every Kernel including reintalling the rom with the original kernel afterwards that this happened. The only way to make it stop was going to recovery (TWM didn't helped, but CWM allowed me to format every folder like system folder) and only after formating everything, and installing XUAME2 stock ROM through Odin would make my phone not boot so warm again.
It happened several times and got me lots of flashings to dyscover the baove procedure to make the phone not get warm.
Once, it wokrd I don't know why, with Omega 3.1 and KT-SGS4-TW-JB-INTL-05-30-2013. Actually it had the same issues, but specifically with intelidemand it suddenly started to work fine for the first time, and was the best week I ahd with a phone ever!!!
Then yesterday I tried to update to Omega 5.0 and KT-SGS4-TW-JB-INTL-06-06-2013 and all the madness started again :crying:
I'm stuck in the loop and I simply don't know what in the process is making this happens. I tryed to flash in sevral different ways, but in every single way this happens.
I tried flashing the kernel in the same CWM session as I instal the ROM, I tryed doing separately, I tryed wiping wvwrything, I tried wiping only some things and not others, I tried fixing permissions and not fixing permissions after Kernel install (they recomend to fix permissions)...
Well, it is a nightmare!!! All I wish is to get my phone working as lovely as it was with Omega 3.1 again, but even installing the same files in the same way I did, I'm not geting it!
Please help!!!
BTW when I updated to KT-SGS4-TW-JB-INTL-06-05-2013 also on Omega 3.1 it was still working great.
Even on undervolted note 2 I never seen a Battery last longer! It was amazing! Then yesterday when trying to updadte to get HDR video on Omega 5.0 it all started again...
Wouldn't it make more sense for you to have asked this in the i9505 forum if you're using an i9505?

Hi all,
I own a brand new Galaxy S6 Edge, SM-G925F, bought just 3 days ago in European Union/
Germany.
It has installed the latest Samsung Stock:
Android version: 5.1.1
Base band version: G925FXXU3COI9
Build number: LMY47X.G925FXXU3COI9
Security Software: MDF v2.0 Release 3 und VPN v1.4 Release 5.2
Latest Stock: G925FXXU3COI9_G925FDBT3COI6_DBT.zip
After updating OTA to the latest stock I tried to root the phone.
First of all I have flashed TWRP 2.8.7.1 via Odin 3.10.6. Then I have installed
Hacker Kernel V5 and XPosed v75.8 by WANAM (20151030) (using TWRP).
After finishing configuring the phone I have seen the next day that my akku has
been eaten and found out that the phone *never* enters deep sleep mode.
As soon as I go back to Stock ROM, Stock Kernel, Stock Recovery
(G925FXXU3COI9_G925FDBT3COI6_DBT.zip), deep sleep mode is working instantly
(controlled with CPU Spy).
What I have done without success to solve the problem:
1. using TWRP Advanced Wipe: erasingDalvik Cache, Cache several times
2. trying the solutions from zidroid (fix-battery-drain-and-deep-sleep-issue-on-galaxy-s6-and-s6-edge)
Method 1 (zip file flasing and Method 2 (terminal).
Both in several combinations with different kernels, alternative ROM, stock ROM,
root only (flashing kernel using Odin without TWRP)
3. trying differenz kernels:
- Hacker Kernel v4, v5
- UniKernel v8
- AELMultiVariant_v2_9_311015
4. trying the kernels without custom recovery, i.e. first flashing stock ROM, then
flashing the kernels directly using Odin.
5. trying the next solution that I have found in the forum:
first stock firmware again, then TWRP, then kernel (for root). Afterwards extracting stock
recovery image from G925FXXU3COI9_G925FDBT3COI6_DBT.zip, flashing this one only.
Running stock recovery, erasing cache, reboot (repeated several times).
Again no deep sleep.
6. first stock firmware again, then flashing TWRP and CarHDRom_V.14_3COJH.
All these tries without XPosed framework, starting from a fresh installed stock system
(i.e. resetting the whole phone to default, then erasing/formatting everything (without
EFS) from TWRP, then flashing stock recovery, kernel, ROM (G925FXXU3COI9_G925FDBT3COI6_DBT.zip)
by Odin.
Even tried everything without a SIM card.
As soon as I flash something (kernel only, TWRP only, combinations or complete ROM) the
phone never enters deep sleep mode. In "best" case it is working with 200 Mhz only.
Can this be a problem with Samsung's latest boot loader?
Thanks for your assistance!
Problem solved, reason unknown
In the end I have found a working solution.
1. using TWRP Advanced Wipe: erasingDalvik Cache, Cache several times
2. flashing stock recovery, kernel, ROM (G925FXXU3COI9_G925FDBT3COI6_DBT.zip)
by Odin.
3. flashing TWRP
4. flashing hacker kernel (enabling root)
5. flashing XtreStoLite_ROM_v2.4_Deo-Mod-Edition_XXU3COI9_G920-5-F-I-T-W8-K-L-S.zip
Deep Sleep is working now, even in combination with XPosed framework and XPrivacy.
As XtreStoLite_ROM_v2.4_Deo-Mod-Edition is based on XXU3COI9 , I assume there could
be a problem with the lasted boot loader from the stock firmware XXU3COI9 that I had installed
previously.

UPDATE: FIXED! Flashfire doesn't seem to work with a Custom Kernel. I reinstalled the same ROM again but this time without the Kernel, and Flashfire worked fine.
Hello, I installed the latest Flashfire from Google Play, but it's not working at all for me. I tried making a Backup of my System, after pressing "Flash" it shows "Loading..." For a few Seconds and then goes into a Black Screen and stays there forever. Waited for more than 20+ Minutes but nothing happened.
I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini (SM-G800F) with Resurrection Remix 5.8.5 (Android 7.1.2 Nougat) and Spookcity v6.0 Kernel and Rooted with latest Magisk 15.1. Also tried with SuperSU, which didn't work as well.
Ya ya
Mine is also the same with u pls can u help me i dont understand how u install rom without the kernel
I have a problem. I install a custom kernel like Franco, Englezos etc. but once I install it the ROM boots but after a few seconds it freezes and then reboots. This happens with Siberia and RR 9.0, I did a clean flash when I flashed both.
Does anyone know what could be causing this and how to fix it?
My device is encrypted but I was able to install custom kernels using Siberia but now it just doesn't work.
Thanks in advance.
I know it sounds dumb, but have you tried rebooting a few more times?
I just flashed Ethereal kernel on PE and on the first boot my device froze up and crashed, but when I rebooted again it now works absolutely fine.
