Bluetooth Range uninpressive -- is this really 5.0? - LG V30 Questions & Answers

I'm underwhelmed by the V30's Bluetooth range. Anyone else?
It actually seems to have a slightly shorter operating range than my previous phone, a Motorola Droid Turbo (XT1225).
There are other thread discussing Bluetooth quality, and lack of 2nd device support (aka broadcasting to two speakers simultaneously). My quality is fine, and my fingers are crossed for two device support in the next OS release.
However, I thought a major selling point of BT 5.0 is the extended range, even when paired to non-5.0 speakers?!?

I could be wrong but I thought that I've read somewhere that both the phone and the device has to be BT 5.0 in order to receive the enhanced range. Same concept as using a USB 2.1 hard drive attached to a USB 3.0 port and only having the IO of the 2.1.

[Q] Motorola S9-HD, S10-HD, and ASUS Transformer

Does anyone have experience with these headsets and the Transformer? I recently purchased both to do a comparison.
The S9-HD sound awesome but the Bluetooth connection with it is really bad. I frequently get drops in audio. It also seems to be messing with the Transformer's WiFi connection because my WiFi will show disconnected ever few minutes. This problem occurs frequently when using Pandora. I've tried checking the "Bluetooth" option but I get the same issues. When the audio drops, it will often skip to the next song when the audio comes back.
The S10-HD does not have any of the technical problems but the sound quality does not even come close to the S9-HD. I really want to keep the S9-HD. Is there any fix for the issues I've come across? Any word on S11-HD being release?
Sorry if this is OT, but I use the Sony MW600 and it works great. Nice and cheap stereo bluetooth. However, it's an in-ear headset that some people dislike.
I have the normal (not HD) S9's and they work fine. They don't affect wifi at all and they work up to a nice distance away from the TF. Can't comment on the HD versions though obviously.
reall, the s9-hd's have better quality then the s10-hd's?
I've had the s10 hd's since last november and love them, works great with the tf, my streak, and bb.

Bluetooth affecting wifi might be normal across devices

I just finished doing some testing on the BT/Wifi issue for the prime. I also repeated the same testing with my EVO 3D and I am getting similar results. That transferring data over bluetooth is significantly affecting wifi. This is using the speedtest app and each test was repeated 4 times. Have others tried testing other devices?
Here are my results.

What application and file did you use for transferring over BT? I would like to test this with my OG, TFP, and MT4G. Because I have never noticed any degradation of WiFi on my OG TF, but only use Bluetooth for Tablet Talk (SMS bridge)

I used the "File Expert" file manager available for free on the marketplace. To transfer a file over bluetooth all I did this in File Expert.
1. find a directory with a video in it
2. tap-and-hold on video file
3. tap Send files
4. tap Send via bluetooth
5. The device will search for available bluetooth devices
6. Select the device you want to transfer to
7. Go to other device and accept the transfer.
Well, I'll be damned. I just ran the same test on my Samsung Epic 4G Touch as I've been running on my Primes:
1. Wifi performing normally.
2. Turn on Bluetooth. Wifi continues performing normally.
3. Pair with my Motorola S9-HD headphones. Wifi continues performing normally.
4. Start streaming music via Google Music to the headphones. Wifi drops SIGNIFICANTLY. No need to quantify, because it's such a dramatic drop (say from 8Mb/s to <1Mb/s here on my work network).
5. Stop streaming, wifi recovers.
I also went the additional route of playing the same music over the external speakers (headphones disconnected). Wifi performance remained roughly the same, allowing for the bandwidth taken up by the streaming (say, from 8Mb/s to 7.5Mb/s).
I'll say that the phone didn't completely drop Internet connectivity like the Primes do, but wifi performance absolutely dropped through the floor. Maybe the Primes are just a tad bit worse than some other devices, like they are in wifi performance in general, but not the nightmare scenario otherwise implied.
So i ran the test and its funny becuase im running the exact same test.
With the evo 3d and also with the motorola s9 HD. i was hoping if someone else can run these kinds of test on a SSGS2 or some other HTC device or even an apple device.
I have a sub-sub-par LG Optimus T and I have already tried to replicate this issue on it. I pair w/ my BT Philips headset and stream Pandora w/ no lags. Speeds are consistently the same.
My Prime, on the other hand, will droop instantly and intermittently disconnect as soon as it is paired to the same BT headset on the same WiFi network.
Cheaper parts = better wireless performance? I think not... I hope not.
I've seen it before. no matter whether using a phone or tablet, BT will affect wifi signal to some extent. some more then others. there's no way that they couldn't because they are both on same wireless signal 802.11 or whatever it is. depending on phone or tablet and strength of signal, some will be affected more than others or maybe even some not at all.
some been mentioned this before but no one here seemed to listen..lmso

While it is true that PANs and WANs use the same protocols and there could very well be some wireless conflict, not only do I not see it on a much more inferior device (my phone), but the WiFi decline on my Prime is quite awful.
We're talking speed declines of 80% or more and random disconnections within minutes.
Both wifi 802.11 and Bluetooth use the 2.4 Ghz spectrum.
One nice test will be if someone could try duplicating the test with the Transformer Prime using the 5 Ghz 802.11n spectrum (does the TP have capability for 5 Ghz?)
I'm not home right now so I can't test it at the moment, but I will say this:
On my Galaxy Nexus, when paired to a Bluetooth speaker and on my WiFi, the audio gets incredibly choppy when I try to use my phone. As a result, I've been disabling WiFi and using my 3G connection when paired to my Bluetooth speakers, which is better. This sounds like the same issue. I'll specifically test speeds on my Galaxy Nexus when paired tonight, but I'm also suspecting this issue isn't limited to the Prime.
The problem is that ASUS has f***ed up so damn much with this product already, that everyone (including myself) is ready to pin every little thing on them and their incompetence
FWIW, I have no problem using wifi while streaming BT audio on my nexus S. I can even turn on my microwave and though it'll cut out momentarily sometimes, it recovers. I can even put it IN the microwave (not turned on) and it still mostly works (stuttery).
I can't stream on my prime, even with the microwave off

Sadly, the Prime does not support 5GHz connections which surprises the hell out of me. Although the aluminum would likely kill it anyhow. I suppose this means the TF700T won't support 5GHz either, come to think of it.

This.
There will always be some sort of interference when using them at the same time - the issue here is that in this case it is enough to notice it.
Even my Bluetooth Logitech mouse was interfering with my laptop WiFi before I ditched it for one of the proprietary wireless mice.
Well, I have a hard time giving ASUS so much grief about this when my Samsung Epic 4G Touch has roughly the same performance. I tried browsing while streaming music to my BT headphones over wifi and was having a hard time getting any sites to respond. I turned off BT and played over the external speakers, and browsing recovered. Pretty much just like on the Primes I've tried.
So, yes, maybe the Prime is marginally worse than the Epic 4G Touch, but not so much so as to be an entirely different problem. I never noticed this on the phone because I usually only use my BT headphones when away from the house and on 3G.

I'm not one of the complainers, but this is a disappointing oversight. I know for a fact that the iPad2 I got for my sister can use the 5Ghz band 802.11n, and I suppose I assumed that all modern competitive tablets could too.
Both bt and wifi operate within the ISM (Industrial, Scientific and Medical) 2.4 GHz short-range radio frequency band. The close proximity of the rf sources is bound to cause interference, so just need to be aware of the quirks and limitations.

Oops, someone already beat me to it. Good job!
Well, I tested this out using my BT speakers and both my Galaxy Nexus and Transformer Prime. The TP is messed up. My Nexus streamed music and downloaded at about 10 Mbps, while the Prime crawled at about 0.25 Mbps while streaming. Do the problems ever end with this tablet? Does Asus actually employ real engineers? Unbelievable.

OP, your test only needs to show streaming with Wifi vs streaming with Wifi w/ paired BT device (i.e. stereo headphones/speakers)
and I don't see any results of streaming with Wifi in your post.
Has anybody ever thought that these Supremely Awesome Magnificent Super Powerful SoC's aren't so super awesomely powerful and get bogged down? I mean seriously, I don't expect much from these devices and bt has always been "just ok" technology. Of course I'm expecting flaming, b/c ppl actually believe these mediocre devices can multitask like a frickin quad core intel x86 proc.
Bluetooth and Wifi essentially operate in the same frequency band(s). As such bluetooth and wifi have always messed with each other. This is made worse by the fact that the phones mobile, low performance nature further limits the ability of the devices to handle multiple functions.
The "issue" people are reporting with the prime is a degradation of performance in excess of the norm. The key is whether or not the degradation is immediate and steady, or degenerative. With most devices you lost performance due to load on the device and RF interference, but the loss is steady and doesn't affect real world performance. For the primes with the issue there is the instant performance drop and it gets consistently worse until the connection becomes unusable and/or fails altogether.

[Q] Bluetooth 3.0 Multicast Audio Android 4.3 Possible?

I've just bought a great Bluetooth Speaker to use with my Nexus 4 and it works great. Because it was fairly cheap I went and got another in the hopes that I could connect both speakers to my N4 and output audio simultaneously to both speakers at the same time. I quickly discovered this isn't currently "working" or even possible.
After a lot of Googling, I found an app on the Play store that supposedly let me connect both at the same time but it doesn't output audio to both speakers (I get "static" from the second one). There are also conflicting opinions about whether this is even possible with the current Bluetooth spec although it does mention multicast support and all I could find are various workarounds that involved using a secondary bluetooth transmitter etc.
So can anyone tell me if there is any software/hack (root needed or otherwise) that would allow configuring audio to be streamed/output to two connected bluetooth speakers simultaneously? Others have suggested it for use with bluetooth headsets. It seems if someone could hack/crack this it would be very useful to a lot of people. Maybe even a good idea for someone with the knowledge for a paid-for app. Any ideas? Would really appreciate some feedback on this - even if it's not actually possible - some technical explanation would be great.
Thanks!
I am also interested in this and the possibility of a Bluetooth hack.
Any luck?
Just wondering if you found any solution for this? I also wants to use multiple bluetooth speakers simultaneously with Android phone...
I would definitely pay for this ability
I'm not sure if it's possible with bluetooth, but if someone could make it happen I would definitely be willing to part with some money for that app/ability.

I'm going to try combining two devices from amazon and see if I can send bluetooth audio from my phone to 2 separate (and different models) TDK bluetooth speakers. I will let you know what I discover once they arrive.
First Device:
Monoprice 109722 Bluetooth Transmitter and Splitter http://amzn.com/B00AJHAYCS
According to the description and reviews this device can transmit a bluetooth signal to 2 devices simultaneously. Amazon says this takes 2-4 weeks to ship, so it will be a little before I get to test this out. If it does work it's still a pain because I'll have this hanging from the bottom of my phone. That's why I'm also going to try combining this device with another bluetooth device.
Second Device:
Mpow® Portable Bluetooth 3.0 Audio Music Streaming Receiver http://amzn.com/B008AGQMQC
My plan is to try pairing this with my phone, and then plugging the Monoprice Splitter into the output on this receiver. I'm expecting some loss of sound quality with all these connections, but as long as it isn't too bad the freedom to walk around with my phone might be worth it.
I'm not sure why a single device that merges the capabilities of these two devices into a single body and shared battery hasn't been created. Through all my searching online I feel like such a device would be well received.

no ****. as long as bluetooth has been around, you would think that they would have fixed this by now. what is the use of having a wireless connection that only can connect to one thing at a time. it's beyond moronic, it's submoronic. who wants to listen to one speaker at a time, when throughout history, we have always used at least two speakers, and many times more. you would think even the idiots who make bluetooth speakers, would at least have the ability to hardwire another speaker to the one which is using bluetooth. i have never been more disappointed in a technology than i am with bluetooth.

The reason why bluetooth doesn't support Multicast is because it doesn't have the bandwith to support High Quality streaming simultaneously no would the chips really having the processing power but that could be fixed, but the main limitation is the lack of available bandwith specified in the 802.11 standard for bluetooth.
However future successors to bluetooth will likely have support for Multicast streaming such as 802.15.3a which is being co-developed by Intel, Sony, Philips, Texas Instruments, Samsung. Though the bad news is, it won't be to market for probably another 2-3 years :/

UPDATE: I have received and tested both of these products from amazon. Good news and bad news. Good news, both of these devices work well on their own and do what they are advertised to do. I'm particularly impressed with the Monoprice 109722 Bluetooth Transmitter and Splitter http://amzn.com/B00AJHAYCS. When plugged into the headphone jack of my phone or tablet it sends audio to two different bluetooth speakers simultaneously and the audio is synced very well (not perfect, but for the price it's very good). The bad news, when combined (to create a true wireless system) a decent amount of distortion is introduced which is not heard when using each of these products by themselves. I'm not sure if it's interference from the different bluetooth connections, because the physical connections seem to work fine when used separately. It sounds like you're listening to FM radio where the station isn't quite tuned in right, just some static along with the music. It's not horrible, but it's no where near the quality that you get from a typical bluetooth connection. I might try using another stereo cable between these two devices and see if adding more space between them helps at all. I'm open to any other suggestions. This is close to be a solution for now, but not quite. If you don't mind having the Monoprice dongle hanging from you phone or tablet, the sound quality coming from both speakers is very good.
Hi folks...has there been any progress on this subject?
I am thinking about setting up a whole house, always listening, google now / voice command network using a couple of bluetooth speakerphones and an older android phone. The more speakerphones I can spread around the house the more coverage I would have.

Few questions before I buy honor 7

Hello lucky honor owners. I just fall in love woth h7 when i saw it and decided to buy it but...few questions without answers makes me wait.
1. Does honor 7 support MHL (media streaming over hdmi)? This is needed to connect the phone to pionier appradio.
2. Is audio quality good enough to ise it with high quality headphones?
3. Some reviews say something about pro mode camera update. Does anybody know when will it be updated?
Thanks for any help.
- 1 : no
-2 : no (need to flash a mod with root for better experience)
-3 : Already implemented in the béta MM 6.0
And if you like custom roms, mods etc............just forget this phone

1 - Nope. But you can get music from H7 through BT and also probably USB using the phone as mass storage, or even connecting the headphone plug to a AUX-in in the radio.
2 - What is your definition of High quality? The sound is good through a pair of RHA 750i, but doesn't come close to a Fiio X3ii. As any phone wouldn't come close to a good mainstream dedicated media player, not to mention pairing it with a portable amp.
3 - From B140 upwards.

Yes, I know. I have one who does that also. But you surely cannot control the phone from the HU (Head Unit). Probably you could if it was a iPhone, like my HU does. But that control is done through USB (special one for iPhone) as I recall. There is no HDMI control signal passing through, I believe.
You can control the radio, using steering wheel buttons if you have them. Just apply a CANBUS between the HU and the buttons, to decode the signals.
There is an app designed for pioneers appradio "ARunchained" it works with amy android with mhl. Phone streams video over hdmi and touchscreen of head unit works as phones screen. Touch signal wil be send by bluetooth and you can use your head unit in the same way as you ise your phone. The only thing is that you need mhl. I was using that with note 3 then lg g4 and now i have spare phone and looking for the next one. Thats why it made me sad that honor doestnt support mhl

Returning my S10

As the title says, I have sent back my S10 for refund. When I pre ordered I was genuinely looking forward to the phone. My previous phone was a LG G7 which is low key a great device. I also have a Oneplus 6T.
Not gonna lie I really like the S10 size and ergonomics and on the whole it's a great phone but a few things irked me but one issue was the main deal breaker.
1/ in display fingerprint reader is not ready for prime time (firmware updates may improve it over time)
2/ contacts pictures are low res and tiny (again firmware updates may solve it but as my daughters S9 exhibits the same thing, I doubt Samsung are in a hurry to do anything)
3/ infinity display takes hella getting use to, example being ghost touches & screen distortion on the sides
However the deal breaker is Bluetooth connection to my cars infotainment system, specifically the Land Rover Discovery Sport. Basically the phone pairs with the system but almost immediately would continously unpair & pair in a loop. No matter what I do with the settings on the phone it would not keep a constant connection. The only way was to un-tick the phone connection on the cars system so that only media was connected. Whether its a problem with Samsungs implementation of Android 9 Pie causing this or the cars system I don't know.
There is an ongoing thread regarding the S9 having the same issues after the Android 9 pie update on Samsung EU forum affecting specifically the JLR group of vehicles
https://eu.community.samsung.com/t5...S9-Bluetooth-issues-Android-9-Pie/td-p/895531
Shame really as I could adapt & live with the 3 other things but as I spend over an hour everyday commuting in my Land Rover the Bluetooth issue is not acceptable.
My S10 pairs with my Honda bluetooth and Android Auto no issues and remains connected. Maybe a defective unit?
The S10 pairs and works faultlessly with my wife's 2014 Mini Countryman and also my daughter's VW Polo. Also I had it paired and working fine with all our Bluetooth speakers, laptops, etc so I don't think the phone is faulty.
As an aside I tried my daughter's S9 that was updated to Android Pie with my Discovery Sport and it exhibited the same issues as my S10. So there is definitely an incompatibility with Samsung's Android Pie update and the infotainment system of my Discovery. Now which one is at fault I don't know but I'm not expecting either Samsung or Land Rover to be in a hurry to rectify.
Sounds like a unique experience. Coming from an S9, I'm experiencing better Bluetooth connections, smooth experience with the fp sensor and no problem with the curved screen with a case on.

Shame really as I could adapt & live with the 3 other things but as I spend over an hour everyday commuting in my Land Rover the Bluetooth issue is not acceptable.

My s10 also does the same thing with my bluetooth in the car. I think my phone is faulty because my wife has the same phone and hers is fine using bluetooth in the car

As the title says, I have sent back my S10 for refund. When I pre ordered I was genuinely looking forward to the phone. My previous phone was a LG G7 which is low key a great device. I also have a Oneplus 6T.

That's unfortunate. As other's have stated, it may be a faulty unit. I have a 2014 Chevy Sonic and have had no issues using phone and media bluetooth with the stereo. I can definitely understand the disappointment, though, and I'd be weary of possibly getting a replacement with the same issue.
I was initially having some BlueTooth issues with having to repair the phone with my 2014 BMW after re-pairing it for the third time a few weeks ago it has been stable ever since. As far as the ghost touches I completely agree, my Note 9 was not like this and I don't want a case on the phone so I have been using the Edge Touch app from the Good Lock app and have had a decidedly better experience.
As I explained I don't think it was faulty as it connected fine to a couple of different vehicles as well as all my home bluetooth electronics. I'm leaning towards it being more an issue with my Land Rover infotainment system as my daughters Galaxy S9 on Oreo connected fine to it but after she updated to Pie it did exactly the same as my S10.
I've already spoken to Land Rover but will be not holding my breath for any update in the near future.
Why every one talks about cars ? How bigger how better ? Lol
Your cars have nothing too do with your bluetooth hubs
But I don't have any problems with my car radio it's a Sony
I'd hold on a bit
Since the latest update I've been having problems with both finger print and Bluetooth connection in my car, and it seems Samsung have pulled this update from any further roll out , do there is clearly a problem
I'd wait for an update from Samsung

I've already sent it back, but I have kept all the cases I bought for it just in case I decide to buy another one at a later date.
Sounds kind of like whiny things to complain about but if you didn't like the phone that was probably your best bet

Same. Since the note 8, all samsung phones (and I have tried them all) have a horrible time with the bluetooth connection on all 3 vehicles in my household (13 BMW X3, 14 Caddy ATS, 14 Chrystler 200) hey google does not work after it registers the first time making hands free driving impossible and the constant disconnects after you use it or just make a call are a joke. Pair that with a camera that is not even close to the pixel 3 and this hot piece of garbage is gone. Boy the hardware is spot on for size and ergonomics, but it just dosen't work.
2016 Jaguar XF. Same exact issue with bluetooth connecting and disconnecting every 10 seconds or so. I plan on messing around in developer settings but not holding my breath for a fix through an update from JLR or Samsung.
found a fix for this
I have a Android head unit in my Car on Android Oreo. I keep having issues with the Bluetooth connection from my S10 in which it disconnects and reconnects over and over every 30 seconds. Here are results and a work around I found.
Galaxy S4 connection to Head Unit
First pair: Works fine
Future auto connects: Works fine
Galaxy S9 connection to Head Unit
First pair: Works fine
Future auto connects: Works fine
Galaxy S10 to Head Unit
First pair: Works fine
Future auto connects: disconnects and reconnects over and over every 30 seconds
Galaxy S10 to Head Unit paired using 3rd party app called Force Pair
First pair: Works fine
Future auto connects: Works fine
I tried everything to get this working since my S10 arrived.
S10 is on the latest update
Updated my Car Head Unit to the latest Firmware and Software.
Played with the developer bluetooth settings on the S10.
Tested pairing from the head unit and the phone separately.
Tried factory reset on both phone and head unit.
Tried forgetting all network settings on S10.
Tried disabling media and ringtone volume sync
Disabled Sleeping Apps, adaptive battery etc
Set All apps to not optimised
Tried unlocking the screen.
NON of the above worked. Only using this 3rd Party app Force Pair works, which has to suggest its a bug in the Bluetooth Connection Pairing. I dont even seem to need to keep this app running on my S10, just paired with it and the problem is gone. Samsung support just keeps telling me to take my phone to a repair centre but its not broke, all other bluetooth devices work fine.
If your experiencing any issues like this, its possible this workaround will work for you also
is it one of those "off road" vehicles that people never drive off road? lol
best of swapping your vehicle :highfive:
all seriousness however, I'm finding that I'm getting inconsistent connection to my Bluetooth headphones. they just randomly seem to cut out whilst listening to tunes and when I go to replay the tune from where it last stopped, its right at the beginning again.

Hello
I have a similar issue as my new SM-G973F cannot connect to a Jabra Elite 25e neck ear plugs or to a Wonderboom speaker (Logitech). My former S8+ connected without problem.
I've tried kdowney's solution to no avail.
It's also a pain for me since I spent almost 2 hours a day commuting to work.
[Edit] It took re setting the hear plugs (+ & multi function for 5") and it works now
