Has any of you ever experienced this?
I have started using my V30 a few days ago. I set up Gmail widgets 3x3 on 3 separate homescreens, each referring to different inboxes of different accounts.
Two times over the past couple of days, the widgets (which worked fine after set up, showing the contents of the inboxes) showed 'tap here to setup', forcing me to choose the appropiate account & inbox folder again. One time, even the extra homescreens were gone altogether (reducing my # of homescreens from 5 to 2).
What gives? I didnt update anything in the mean time, im on 7.1.2. & using the stock launcher.
Also this morning Alarm Clock Plus didnt go off, not sure if its related.
Same thing happens to me on my pixel 2. Only for my non Gmail accounts though. 3 Gmail widgets are fine, 2 others (Hotmail and Yahoo) get reset daily (possibly on reboot).

For the record I just updated the Gmail app and the problem went away.

Hey! I have a rooted Thunderbolt (Das BAMF Remix 1.6.3, using Imo's 2.7.0 leanKernel), but I have the LauncherPro app and I have my dock display my calls, messages, GMail, as well as a shortcut to the browser.
When I installed this about three weeks ago, my SMS notifications used to work (when I get a notification, a little red notification bubble came up next to my message icon, which was customized, and so are the rest of my dock icons), and then it stopped working - once I installed SMS Go, it started to work again for a bit, and then stopped.
So for two weeks I sort of just accepted that, and then for some odd reason my GMail notifications stopped working... I would get e-mail, and it would say "Inbox (1)" when I click on the GMail icon to open it up, but to see it I would have to refresh and then it would pop up and then if I went to the home screen, the notification bubble would return. These notifications used to be instantaneous; I sent myself a test e-mail and waited for hours, and after doing several test e-mails, I realized sometimes (not all the time though) the application, even after an hour, was not recognizing I got mail until I refreshed.
I tried changing setting to check mail often, made sure on LauncherPro's preferences I set the notifications to be on... I am just unsure why my notifications would stop working (and my GMail is slowly going to crap - I even uninstalled and reinstalled, did not help).
Does anyone have any advice, opinions, or suggestions for this weird problem? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!
Bump - does anyone have any suggestions? I just tried uninstalling and reinstalling GMail again with no success.

Check under accounts to make sure that sync is still on for your Gmail account.

Go into Settings > manage apps > all. Open the Gmail icon. Click on "clear cache " and "clear data ". Ignore the warnings. Return to home page, and open Gmail. It will resync, and your problem should be solved.

I've had gmail bug out on me about three times total dating all the way back to my OG droid. It always happened after flashing a new ROM even with full wipes. My situation was a little different (basically if I "deleted" a email in the gmail app it wouldn't actually delete. It would never resync to my phone but I still would get a x amount of new messages. I would then log into my gmail on the pc and there are all the messages that I had "deleted") I solved this once by just clearing data and cache, but the other two times I had to do a wipe and reinstall. What was interesting though is each time I back upd my current Rom and used that on the restore and bam it was fixed.
Is there any way I can change the frequency of when the GMail app checks mail/forwards them to my phone?
through the gmail app itself no. You could use the "mail" provider on the phone and receive gmail that way. In that program you (i think) can set up the frequency that it syncs. A couple of downsides to this though:
1. unless it has changed since I haven't tried it since the OG droid, it won't delete emails off your web based account only your phone.
2. you would need to delete the gmail app on your phone.
With the latest pq and p7 i had an issue syncing phone calendar with exchange (you don't see exchange calendar entries)
No way to get my task nor my agenda.
Anyone found a solution for this?
ps. it it possible that nobody use exchange ??? this is sound very strange to me.....
hi
same problem for me
---------- Post added at 10:30 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:25 AM ----------
To make it work (for me atleast)
1. remove the whole exchange account
2. Turn on auto-syncing across your phone.
3. add back your exchange account, but this time make sure on the initial account setup that you select an auto syncing interval (anything except never). I used every hour.
4. Wait a while and it should show up in calendar (it did for me)
I had the same issue and that fixed it, many thanks.

Thx man, solved the prob for my i9000 too !!
Anyone else notice that if you have exchange email sync disabled but calendar enabled, the calendar does not sync automatically?
I don't want to sync my exchange email but definitely need the calendar. I have to constantly hit the sync button in the calendar app for it to update. This type of setup worked fine on my Captivate running CM9 nightlies. Any ideas on how to fix it?
Edit: This post should probably be moved to the Q&A section. Sorry about that.
I'll check this out on my phone, however, I've noticed in general that the calendar sync on android is suspect.
---------- Post added at 08:17 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:10 AM ----------
Mine sync'd almost immediately with email sync disabled. I would say within 60 seconds. I did notice that the widget didn't update until I opened the actual calendar application for my first test. I'm testing out when the widget updates as I type this.
How are you testing your calendar? I'm creating a new appointment on Outlook (desktop app) then making sure Outlook has updated Exchange before I am checking my phone.
I then look at the widget on my home screen first. (1x3 stock widget). Then go into the Calendar application.
I so far am noticing a delay of the widget updating, so far at 2 minutes, no widget update if I don't go into the actual Calendar App.
UPDATE: Widget does update, but there must be a refresh interval (so it doesn't drain CPU and battery) Took about 2.5 minutes for the widget to update.

Also, removing a Outlook event from my phone takes about 60-120 seconds to reflect on the Exchange server, about what I would expect.

Pretty much testing like you. New meeting on my outlook calendar does not show up in the calendar app or widget until I hit the "sync" option. I've waited hours before...
strange I'm not having those problems.
Without giving away too much information in a public forum (feel free to PM me if you'd like)---
What version of exchange are you using? Do you know the architecture of the Exchange deployment? (Front-End & Back-End servers, etc?)

Not sure on the exchange setup... however I can tell you that it works just fine on CM9. I think it has something to do with the Samsung exchange stuff :\
Like I said, I'm not having the same problem as you. I am running stock Sprint S3 image. Maybe it's a carrier thing?
I am using the S Planner and have recently upgraded to 4.1.1 Earlier on ICS when I used to enter the Add Event full settings (on the quick add event it never came though) anyway I used to add an event and the default 5 Mins Notification Reminder used to place itself in the Event on my Calendar.. However Since the upgrade I need to manually click on the + sign next to the reminder.. Why is this so? Is there a work around? I am using the local 'My Calendar' calendar in the S Planner.. I have synced it to my email calendar as well but I have almost no calendar entries on my email.. Just a few work related ones..
Is there anyway for it to automatically add a 5 mins before notification reminder on all the events I create in the local My Calendar in the S Planner? It is quite a pain as I seem to be missing calendar entries since I forgot to add the reminder manually..
Please Help me out! Thanks in Advance!
It is so sad to see nobody is bothered with this problem, because this guy's post is unanswered for almost a month. Is nobody using reminders? I just don't understand. Dumbest stupid failure of the new firmware which urges you to seek for calendar replacement app.
Ok enough emotions. I am also suffering from this. Searched here and there all over. Nobody cares. Nobody even seem to notice this perfect calendar upgrade.
Does it make sence to write to Samsung?

Posted this issue even earlier in another thread. Same no reaction. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33900623&postcount=2112
Haha I gave up on the Stock rom and have since moved onto Cyanogen Mod 10.. I don't have NFC, WIFI Direct, Micro SD Card recognition, or any of the motion features from Samsung like Swipe to Capture a screenshot or Direct call from Contact/Message but I have 4.1.2 and a smoother phone and a slightly better battery life.. I am thinking of selling the S3 and buying the Nexus 4! Since the Jellybean upgrade was absolutely rubbish on the S3!
Why on earth this all is so so sad? Why do we need to deal with such shameful faults of the OS of one of the most expensive smartphones in 21st century. The level of this bug or problem reminds me of Windows 3.1 times...
Almost one month later and no solution to this. Such a simple thing to fix but a very annoying bug to deal with. I will be finding a different calendar.

use google calendar

I found a different solution to this! But it will only apply if you use your email address as your default calendar and don't use the local "My Calendar".. Go to your Calendar settings in your Web browser and activate the default reminder time to whatever you want.. Also ensure on your phone that your Calendar is set to Sync with your gmail account on which your calendar entries exist.. Automatically the default reminder time gets placed into your newly set calendar entry without you manually having to do so..
I read what I wrote and its probably a bit confusing but ill be glad to help anyone out if they haven't quite understood! Also sorry I couldn't explain better as I am in a bit of a rush now..
I tried this, but it didn't seem to make any difference on my phone. Any time I make an appointment on my phone it still defaults to no reminder.

Are you sure when you add an Event/Task it shows your gmail address? rather than "My Calendar"?
In addition to that.. You could also go into your settings in the S Planner and then the option Calendars and un-select "My Calendar" and all other calendars you are not using except the one synced with gmail..
Found a solution
Hey,
I found a workaround : http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/general/tutorial-how-to-disable-s-planner-t3131379
I'm having an issue with not getting Gmail notifications. I've set all permissions to allow notifications, turned off power saving modes and locked Gmail in the background.
But after all this, I still get no indication of a new email until I actually open Gmail.
Can anyone help?
It's only Gmail that I'm having this issue with, which is also confusing me.
Thanks.
Thats odd. My gmail is working fine with notifications. But gmail has a bunch of its own settings for notifications also. Did you make sure to enable them in the gmail app settings itself? Not where it takes you to the settings on the phone but within the app. I dont have to lock gmail in the backround for it to work either. Make sure that it is also taken off the app quick freeze list in battery settings. in the gmail settings on the phone settings itself after you allow notifications you also have to go into the email account listed there and allow notifications for that email account. Just enabling notifications for the gmail app itself wont notify you of emails.
Yeah, I've gone into the accounts listed and enabled notifications in there as well as the settings within the app itself.
If I go into settings>battery>custom power consumption Protection , Gmail isn't on the list of apps. I don't know why?
So I'm at a bit of a loss now why they aren't coming through as everything seems to be set up correctly.

Just out of interest, are you on the international version? I am so just checking we're on the same hardware/software combo.

In Battery>App quick freeze make sure gmail isnt toggled on.
In Battery>Smart Power Saver >Toggle Off
In Battery>Super High Power Efficiency> Toggle Off
In Gmail itself. Make sure you havent set emails to only notify you of priority inbox. I had that problem before as gmail will pop up from time to time to as you to turn on that setting. If you arent paying attention and just click ok like I did once it will drive you crazy.

Actually, No. Im on the Chinese ROM which is actually more restrictive. Ive actually gotten everything to work. Notifications, Backround processes, etc. The only problem I have is I cant get Location History in Google Maps to enable so Timeline doesnt work. And I cant seem to add my Visa cards in google wallet for some reason.

Went into Gmail and was set to high priority only, changed it to all mail and seems to have done the job. ?
Nice one, thanks for the help shadoe_lance.
No problem. Glad to help.
