Huawei Mate 10 Lite - To root or not to root? - Huawei Mate 10 Questions & Answers

Hi everyone,
So I've just bought a Huawei Mate 10 Lite and so for so good. I'm pretty pleased with it but coming from a Samsung S7 I've found this one a little rough around the edges regarding the OS itself.
With that said, I was wondering: is it worth to root my Mate 10 Lite? And if it is, are there any recommendations?
The things that made me consider going for a root are the following:
- Lock screen - I hate that magazine style or whatever it's called, I think I've turned off everything that I could but there's still images scrolling and not just a clock and my notifications with the wallpaper I've chosen. I've searched everywhere and I couldn't find something that completely turned off that lock screen style.
- Contrast / Saturation of screen - with S7 the colors just popped, with Mate 10 Lite, not so much. I know they were richer because I've opted for the "cinema" filter, regardless, I would enjoy to have more control on that front.
- Some apps that I don't use I would like to delete them and I can't, but with that I can live.
Point being: is it worth to root it or are there any alternatives for what I want? Not that I'm not confortable with rooting smartphones, I've done it before, but some of those times it didn't worked that well, having messages not delivered or received, or making the smartphone to stagger a little. But that could be just from the smartphones, which were not that great.
Thank you in advance

Root it, you have nothing to lose. Flash twrp, make a clean backup before you root it and then root it. I dont recommend changing the firmware though cause the huawei firmware is really good.

Huawei T1 8 Pro - A way to confuse people and put my 2 cents

US..ONLY..So after an extensive research ...I bought the biggest Smartphone I can get...An 8 inch screen phone with a good battery life. For starters, here is what I found out...
Huawei has several models that are very confusing and even their customer service were not that much informative. models I have encountered are the following:
Huawei T1 8 Pro Honor - 823 L - 2 GB RAM and 16 GB Storage (Limited Bands for LTE but 4G speeds were fast enough for my use, got it from ebay)
Huawei T1 8 Pro Honor - 821 L - 1 GB RAM and 8 GB or 16 GB Storage options (More bands for LTE but 1 GB of RAM only)
Huawei T1 8 Pro Honor - 821 W - 1 GB RAM and 16 GB storage option (I think the W stands for WIFI...this I cannot confirm)
Huawei T1 8 Pro Mediapad - 2 GB RAM and 16 GB Storage from gethuawei website...out of stock as of this writing)
Huawei T1 8 Mediapad - 1 GB RAM and 16 GB Storage
This one has 4.4 for Android OS...I do not know if http://forum.xda-developers.com/hua...ot-huawei-mediapad-t1-8-0-pro-lte-t1-t3262608
has found a way to upgrade to Lollipop and remove bloatwares.
personally, the hardware is decent and battery life is great. I used it for 1 day and end fo the day still had 50% of battery life. I do need to have big pants though. Is there anyone trying to develop an updated OS for this system?

Nope nobody is developing anything to this device... Not even Huawei I guess... BTW after root bloatware can be easily removed...
Too bad...

Too Bad, this is a good device and the battery life is good for a phone with an 8 inch screen. It is also good for those who have problems with vision and not wanting to be bringing 2 devices for travels.
I may have to learn programming to see if I can update this...
I have the MediaPad T1 8.0 Pro and it has the best radio/modem for T-Mobile coverage. It even covers their HSPDA+ 750 MhZ band which only a few phones cover; this is the band that T-Mobile calls the "building buster" for its ability to penetrate most buildings. So yeah for all that.. I'm now waiting for an 8-inch phablet that's octo-core and features Lollipop or Marshmallow. So far I have been unable to find one..
So which one of the above did you get? 823L, 821L, or the one from Gethuawei website?...i m like you impressed with the build but needs a pure Android OS to maximize it's potential.
A have the pro8 t1-821L its rootable and bloatware can be removed this way I have also unlocked the bootloader but there is no custom recovery or ROM which is a damn shame because it's nice bit of kit a can watch movies all night long on it and still not need to charge it also am not locked to EE either so if any devs r reading this post please help this phablet out? cheers

I would have wanted the 821L also but there were no 2GB available anywhere. Only 1 GB. But even with my 823L and connecting at 4G, the speed is negligible in our area which is Central Florida. I get to watch Netflix, and Youtube also with not much lag. And I do not have to squint from a small screen. Agree, also that if anyone can build a custom ROM that's plain Android Lolllipop would be nice.
Would a T1 8 Cutom ROM work for the T1 8 Pro?

The page you linked is not good. The download links are there just to make you send money. Currently there are no custom recovery for huawei t1 8.0 neither to t1 8.0 pro without that installing custom roms are not really convenient. And also I wasn't able to find any custom rom especially on XDA, so I'm pretty sure thereare no "hints" on xda as the page says....
Huawei MediaPad T1 8.0 Pro GSM Unlocked 4G LTE US
Yes I do agree with everyone here. It is a very great device and a lot of bang for your buck plus more. The great thing about it is that you can basically make it however you want it. I manually updated mine to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. Which took some time because Huawei is a very new brand and I had to get used to there EmotionUI. Which didn't take long because its Android too. Just without the app drawer. So its kind of ahead because Android N is going that direction from what I hear. Also after rooting and installing BusyBox I tried to install xPosed. But the Huawei device wouldn't take it because they already have there own framework. So I started to tinker more with it and found out that yes indeed they have framework already. That's why it reads a message error when trying to install xPosed and it says something about xPosed not being compatible. I believe it has something to do with their EmotionUI. Not sure though because that's my first Huawei experience. The device is really solid though. Resolution can be tweaked and the display looks so gorgeous then. Values for everything can be tweaked to make the OS run liquid smooth and fast with very little noticeable lag or hiccups. Also the volume values can change as well giving it a more premium sound. Camera resolution was turned up along with high quality pictures. So the pics stayed sharp looking. Also when some values are entered it gives the gaming experience so much more life through the CPU and the GPU. Rendering gets way better too. Also changing the data values gives it more LTE speed too. Along with other values that make the browser loading times instantly. Even when being on the mobile data network seems like you would be connected to WiFi. It saves a lot of data too. And the battery is amazing. I'm trying to remember what other tweaks worked perfect for it and it ran with no problems. Oh yes it can multi task with up to four things going on. I got the app where you can, watch YouTube and Google something. And watch something on eBay all in different windows at the same time. It got warm but handles it very well. You should overclock it and have the battery set on smart mode. Oh yes and change the font. I had Disney font on it and went to a more modern font look. I'll let y'all know what else I did if I can think of anymore things. Just reply I will come back to this forum. It is my most favorite device of all at the moment. And Huawei is so new too.

Can we use a T1 10 Pro Rom for this device? Any of our XDA programmers chime in...?
So I just bought a Huawei ascend mate 7... finished using the tablet phone as I am almost done with my school... It was a nice piece of hardware and convenient in not having to bring two devices... But now I need mobility so I will be selling this one soon on eBay. If only it had a good following to install a updated os ....

ASUS ZenPad S3 10 or Samsung Tab S3?

Hej,
I know that ASUS ZenPad 3S 10 is a new tablet but maybe thre is anyone here that have tested it or know more about it?
I have a Samsung Tab S3(813/2016 version) and from what I read there will probably never be any custom roms for this tablet mainly becouse of the CPU. How about the Asus ZenPad 3S? It is more likely that there will be a custom rom for this tablet?
How does these tablets compare more then what the space says?
About the zenpad
I've had my Zenpad 3S for about three weeks now and I'm actually quite pleased with it. It's fast and very responsive. The screen is awesome, with settings to adjust color temp etc. Nice feel with the unibody aluminium chassi, a bit slippery but nowhere near an iPhone. Camera is sub-par of course, the rear does ok in good lighting. Speakers are loud with surprisingly good sound for a tablet, but it's still a tablet... Battery life is excellent, I manage to go by several days with light use and at least 2-2.5 days with normal use like youtube and facebook. I mostly use mine for reading sheet music though. ZenUI is mostly bad. It's loaded with bloatware, some you can uninstall but others you can only disable. Notification tray has stupidly big icons, very clunky and ugly. Settings are pretty extensive but confusing sometimes. For example, instead of putting Home Screen settings in the settings app under Display or even as a standalone option there (There's one for the lock screen), you have to access a different "preferences" menu from the home screen in order to change something like grid size. Wallpaper options on the other hand is located both there and in the normal settings. So there's definitely stuff to improve, but at least they're working on it with pretty frequent updates.
As for rooting, I have no idea. If enough people root for it (pun intended), maybe.
Let me know if you want to know something more specific about it

Hello there!
I have this tablet from few days. I like it a lot, but asus rom really sucks
I can't find any news about custom roms. Do you know something?
The Zenpad 3S 10 finally made it to the US market. Spec wise it's a very attractive unit, especially for the price compared to the Samsung S2's. But I suspect there isn't going to be a lot of love from the XDA dev's due to the MediaTek processor.

What's the problem with the processor?
Quick googling found me a couple of guides on how to root the ASUS Zenpad 3S 10 Z500M. Just the root feature should make it possible to get places in terms of removing bloat.
I'll hold on to my v1 nVidia Shield Tablet for now and wait for further development in ROMs and rooting for the Zenpad S3 10.

I hope I'm wrong. But based on the paucity of discussions about this tablet here on XDA while trying to just general info, likes, dislikes etc. I'm not getting my hopes up. If I do go this route I'm going to purchase it for what it is now.

Those quick google results of rooting Asus Zenpad 3S 10 are fake. I did the same when I got my tablet and those articles seem very generic or want you to use an untrusted app from the KitKat or even Gingerbread days.

Have you had any luck rooting yet or finding additional hacks for the 3S 10? How about a way to keep the backlight on longer for the back and recents buttons?
I also want to root my brand new ZenPad 3s 10 but I can't find any instructional guide that actually works :S
Can somebody help us???
I think it's dead to root this model. It's a pity because this is a great android tablet with the best sound i experimented.
Cool loud dual speaker but especially the great 3.5mm audio quality. The DAC is realy good.
Root for ASUS Zenpad Z500M
Still no root or roms for the zenpad 3s 10??? Bummer. This tablet has great specs all except for the mediatek processor. I'll have to look for another device then...
I'm still hopeful that this device will eventually get root.
It's a really great tablet, even more so because of it's price point.
Yes, the only reason too root this tablet 4 me is to install adaway and any root features of apps.
I hope in future too, it gaves a guide to root these tablet
I got one for Christmas...Still adjusting to the ZenUi after years near vanilla Android on Nexus and Motorola devices.
@radon222 you can download Google now launcher.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.launcher
Google launcher was one of the first things I downloaded. But that still doesn't change the pull down/settings menus.
C'mon is possible that nobody else use this fantastic tablet and find a root? I would like to contact some developers....do you know how to do?
Regarding to this post, kernel source was released in mid of december.
Anything new here? I would love to use lineageos on the Asus.
Lineage would be awesome on this tablet.
Hope a developer start working. It's still fun to take out my old TF300 and flash the latest 7.1.1 ROM.
Developers are great.

Huawei Mate 10 Pro Face Unlock

Hello guys, i read this article before. i applied this my ex phone (oneplus 3t) and it was successfull.
But I can't set a Trusted Face in Smart Lock at mate 10 pro.
How can i do that?
https://android.gadgethacks.com/how-to/get-oneplus-5ts-face-unlock-any-phone-0181291/
(Get the OnePlus 5T's Face Unlock on Any Phone)
I don't think you can. Huawei have removed it from Smart Lock.
Since Honor V10 has the face unlock (in future rom), maybe can port the app to Mate 10 series.
But in my view face unlock might be unnecessary in the sense that you have to raise the phone anyway for face unlock and whereby fingerprint is faster as you don't have to align phone to your face. However face unlock will help when phone is docked during driving. And this leads me to guess that one could have their phone on a stand up dock on the work desk as well and use face unlock without needing to lift the phone.
why removed? all of android phones use it.
we are using android 8 but we can use a very important option...
Some news has come about with the Honor View 10. It now has Face Unlock which is very nice as it starts checking the face as soon as you take the phone off a table so the power button doesn't even need to be pressed.
Also the Mate 10 lite is supposedly getting Face unlock according to some leaks.
Hopefully this means that the face unlock feature will also make its way to the flagship phone... Mate 10 and Mate 10 pro.
I would almost bet money that the Mate 10 (Pro) doesn't get Face Unlock. Huawei is notoriously bad and just simply random with updates that add features to current phones if they don't mention these features during the introduction of the phones.
I don't really care about face unlock to be honest. It just bothers me that I spent 600+ on a flagship phone and it doesn't get the newest features while cheaper phones get them simply because they are newer. I've had a lot of Huawei / Honors phones over the last few years and while it is forgivable for medium range phones, it is simply unexpectable for flagship phones that cost as much as Samsungs, HTCs etc.
All of these companies provide consistent improvements in their software (see for example the S8 with the advanced "always-on" display - meanwhile I am almost sure that we will never get an improved software update for the "always-on" display). Even the cheaper OnePlus improve their software regularly (see the OnePlus 5T with multiple updates for their camera and updates for the Face Unlock).
The Mate 9 had almost no updates that improved anything, let alone Google security updates. I am willing to give Huawei one last chance, but they better improve their update policy a lot this time around (meaning Google security updates, Android updates as well as improving features such as face unlock, better "always-on" display etc.). Yes, the hardware is excellent on this phone - but it is simply not enough in this day and age when even companies like "OnePlus" provide better and more comprehensive update policies for less money.
I hope time will prove me wrong and we will get good updates as well as "face unlock", but so far I really doubt it.
Stop to buy these phones then..

Huawei Pakistan confirmed that the Mate 10 lite will get it.
It would be nice but I rather see Huawei keeping the promise of monthly security updates and I wanna see some polishing of the Mate 10 software.

Mate 10 pro insights and user experience

Hello everyone,
I consider buying Mate 10 pro and I am torn by many of the posts here about the phone / live review results.
After reading many good reviews I have now few doubts and would like to make a post that will gather your (those who own Mate 10 / pro) experience with the phone.
I am obvisouly aware there are already reports on such topics in the live review section but I believe (and hope) that stuff have changed due to the AI learning the user
daily uses and Huawei updates.
Few key features / questions I personally would love to hear from you about are:
Always on display - does it still working only with huawei native apps?
Lock screen notification - after unlocking does the notification dismiss from the lock screen?
Lags / over heat - Do you encounter them on daily use? how smooth the experience is compare to other flasgships?
Youtube + message app bug - there is a post on the forum about the phone locking it self if you get message when you view youtube in full window mode, did it
got fixed with update?
Does the bluetooth / gps / wifi work well?
its just a few points I would love answers to but you welcome to offer any insight about the phone, cons and pros after using it for a while.
Have a wonderful day =)

5)All working fine here (5Ghz wifi too). GPS is fast and accurate. I don't use Bluetooth very often, but i did some tests with file transfer and headset, no problem here.
I could answer from the 3rd point
No overheat at all and performance is really good only some minor stutter every now and then like every Android phone
GPS and wifi and Bluetooth are always working correctly for me
I don't encounter YouTube problem at all.

Thank you both for your answers, gives me some comfort!
Sadly, I believe there is no current "perfect" phone in the market and I am having real trouble deciding if to go for the Galaxy S8, htc u11+ or Huawei mate 10 pro.
Is there any bugs / cons on Huawei mate 10 pro software that should be highlighted in your opinion?
Honestly I understand your question and in the same time, I'm bored about these questions...
Phone is very great... Best phone I have ever had...
Not overheating incredible battery life and marvelous experience... For me.
Of course, it isn't perfect. As any phone..
Read reviews and decide...
Cheers
I'm curious about something, does the Pro support using the fingerprint sensor as navigation, similar to the standard Mate 10 and the Honor View 10?
It'd probably be a little more unorthodox as it's located on the back but that's possibly the only way I'd consider getting it even. Not an AMOLED fan.

Does the bluetooth / gps / wifi work well?

It's my first Huawei, and I've read a lot also before buying it, and I've been happily surprised:
3- I never got it hot (netflix for hours ....). I got it "warm" and I insist on warm because it really wasn't hot (especially compared to my previous phones) once when I was doing google Duo + fast charging. And about the lags, nope.
4- Never got this issue.
5- Bluetooth, wifi (5ghz, 2,4ghz, hotspot...). For the GPS I only used it in Hong-Kong atm, and with the ****ing density of buildings, it was not really accurate, but not worse than the other phones. Once outside the city it was working very well.
For the other things :
- The rear camera is very good ! I will need a tripod for night shoots, because in night mode (or manual) you can increase the shutter time.
- I really like EMUI (usually I always flash cyanogen/lineage)
- The infrared : I noticed that I use it all the time to control my AC and TV ^^
- The sound could be better : you easily block it with your hands, and what they call "stereo" ... is quite bad because the other speaker is not as loud as the one at the bottom.

If you like snappy smooth phones don't go for the Sammy from my opinion
I was always a Samsung user for many years till the s7edge and then switched to Mate 9 then now mate 10 pro
While Samsung phones are great but they can't be compared to Huawei in 2 things mainly the battery life and speed/smoothness of operation and animations ect..

No the fingerprint scanner does not do all the functions as the normal mate 10 but we have something called navigation dock and it's floating anywhere you like on screen and it do the same exactly so you can hide the keys and make use of all this great 18:9 screen

You're right, I forgot to mention it : the navigation dock is a GREAT idea ! no screen surface wasted ! I love it.
Huawei Mate 10 Pro
I love the phone. I compared it to top of the line Samsungs at the store and I like the way it looks/feels better. Also Samsungs have ridiculously long shape and have much smaller battery.
Overall impression:
-- Very appealing to look at and hold. It is a bit slippery without a case because both sides are glass, but it comes with a very thin transparent soft plastic case which gives it a much better grip.
-- Camera blows my previous phone out of the water but not as good as a consumer grade DSLR. Low light pictures are sharp and crisp.
-- No headphone jack but comes with a pair of USB-C phones in the box.
This is my second HUAWEI device (first one was Honor Note 8 and it got stolen). I keep coming back to Huawei because of excellent build quality and very long battery life.
Always on display - does it still working only with huawei native apps?
- Mine does not have an always-on display.
Lock screen notification - after unlocking does the notification dismiss from the lock screen?
I have not seen such notification. I touch the fingerprint circle on the back side and it immediately shows icon screen or whatever app was open last.
Lags / over heat - Do you encounter them on daily use? how smooth the experience is compare to other flasgships?
Mine is always cool to the touch. I would not know what happens during intense videogames as I don't play em.
Youtube + message app bug - there is a post on the forum about the phone locking it self if you get message when you view youtube in full window mode, did it
got fixed with update?
Will try it and update.
Does the bluetooth / gps / wifi work well?
Bluetooth and GPS do. For me Wifi does not work well with 2.4 Ghz routers, although I get 120 Mbps on the 5 Ghz band. It looks like no one else has this issue so I will try to return and replace the phone with identical one. Also it appears to be a software glitch so might be fixed with an update.

Is it still worth it?

So, being the phone nerd that I am, I have no idea how I never knew about this phone till now. So! Id like to ask all of you, who have the phone, is it still worth it? Are you happy with your purchase? Did you switch to the ROG Phone 3 or the Note 20 Ultra? Hows the OS? I like to customize my phone alot so, remove any and all bloatware, root the phone and perhaps install a custom rom, etc. Is any of that possible on this phone? Ill be honest! I really just want this phone for its 7.1 inch screen. I previously had the Huawei Mate 20 X so, this looks like a very welcome upgrade. So what are your thoughts on this phone, please share?
I have BS3Pro china device. flash to global rom and this is my opinions.
What I like about this phone :
- Huge display for read cartoon/ watch some video
- beautiful 90hz screen that make my cartoon reading feel great when scroll down to next page
- Great gaming experience here
- Battery is great (if not do a "lot" of gaming) (pubg 90fps can do around 4hr before phone died)
- Fast battery charging from 0% to 100% with around 1hr
What I'm not impressive about this phone:
- Camera focusing(not autofocus) is not done they work. miss focus 80% of time
- Speaker is not loud enough. if you need to race a sound with noisy place, You will hear little sound of your phone.
- Speaker quality is decent. Not great but not worse either
- fingerprint scanner will not work if your screen have a little dirty or oily
The worst part of this phone:
- Software update(Global rom) is very slow. This phone still have miui11 and the last update is probably 2 month ago(if i'm not wrong)
- Lack of community.
- No hope for custom rom.
Summary. this is a good phone that used by few people(I assum). That's make the manufacturer lower the priority in term of software update. and blackshark company didn't have space for custom rom for their phone.
You can still unlock bootloader and install custom recovery for rooting your phone. But no custom rom were made for this phone here.
If you don't mind about custom rom, frequent software update, lack of community to discuss. this is a good phone if your prefer big one.
Phone would be worth it $400 now. ZERO updates coming, xiaomi has abandoned the BS3pro, especially the global model
I love it. If you're rooted you can customise it using swift installer, and a few other apps that work like the audio headquarters, viper, and superstatus bar, CustoMiuizer, etc. I use the Samsung notifications shade etc.
Though I wish there were ways to update the phone since I can't get update to install since I'm rooted.
Other than that. I love it. Just wish it had 120hz
tried any GSIs?
like Mitku01 said, the phone is great. You don't find a better phone with a big screen.
Global support is bad. My Black Shark 3 Pro is still on security patch 2020-06-05.
