With all the new doze features these phone have in 8.1 is greenify necessary? I currently am using it but wonder if it could actually be slowing my phone down. I have s pixel 2 xl on Android 8.1.

Definitely not required on Android 7+ but can be useful to identify and contain bad actors. That said, utility is limited w/o Xposed. I would disable and observe.
Side note: adding tons of apps to Greenify without due cause is bad practice and can lead to undesirable behaviors and/or increased power consumption. Stick to those that exhibit poor behavior -and- can not be contained with native doze.

Disable in the normal manner in apps panel (under Android settings). If 'disable' is not available in your ROM (and you don't have an app to handle this) simply uninstall.

No - disable with disable button. If your ROM does not offer that option then uninstall. Force stop is a temporary action.

I know that there is currently no option to disable it, but maybe this will be implemented as it makes sense.
In non-root mode, every time I hibernate apps, the screen that tells me I need to force stop or enable automation comes up.
I learned that I need to press force stop, and I don't want automation because it runs in background, eating RAM.
Moreover, on a tablet, the nag screen covers a part of the force stop button.
Could an option to disable that screen over and over again be provided?
Thank you.

When you enable automation, the app will close and will not run in the background. It only automates your action of force closing it.

I wasn't talking about the app I want to hibernate, I was talking about Greenify itself running in the background if I enable automation (see in my screenshot).
Keeping 47 MB of RAM for Greenify all the time for a few times when I want to manually hibernate apps just doesn't make sense... after all, one of it's (main) goals is freeing resources.
If I'm fine manually pressing "Force stop" (the alternative being to sacrifice 47 MB of RAM), then I shouldn't be nagged every time I do it to enable automation (I got the picture the first time.... no, thank you) . This is why there sould be an option to dismiss that "warning".

47MB seems high. For me, it is 24MB only. And I always have >1GB free

Anyhow, I'm planning to remove that floating screen in the next major version.

Yes (attached).
It looks like Google Services bloats it up.
Can we disable those background usage reportings? Apart from free memory, they're the reason we're using Greenify in the first place.
Thanks.

Does them linger for a long time, or just in a short time?
I hardly noticed them within in Greenify, but it definitely worth a further observation.

I want to report an issue with Greenify (2.7.1) which causes space-swype on the Samsung Keyboard to be disabled.
The phone: Galaxy Note 2, custom recovery, rooted, stack ROM.
The Greenify app works perfectly, but when XPOSED experimental features are enabled and ticked ON via Settings->My Device->Accessibility: Services - Greenify, the Samsung keyboard won't change the language = one cannot swype the spacebar to change the language.
Once this Service is enabled no matter what - the keyboard issue will remain permanent.
How it is solved now: Uninstall Greenify via Xposed: Works. Then Reinstall Greenify via Play Store but DO NOT TOUCH the Service-Greenify.
Questions: is it real bug? How can one solve it without reinstalling the app? Any other technical ideas are highly welcome.

Which mode are you using? The Accessibility setting needs to be enabled only if you are using non rooted mode according to the Dev. So if you are using root or boost mode, do not enable Greenify in Accessibility setting. You should not lose any functionality because of that.

I am rooted phone, but actually I do not know what " does rooted mode" mean - I did not see any "mode" in Greenify itself. For the best of my understanding I run a rooted mode.
(What do you mean by "Dev"?).

Greenify has three modes, 'Non Root, 'Root' and 'Boost'. You can access them by clicking the three dot menu on top right side of Greenify app and then clicking Experimental Features. The first option is the mode. Set it to 'Boost' if you have Xposed and have enabled Greenify in Xposed. Disable Greenify in Accessibility and then check your issue. By the way, do you have the donation package of Greenify or the free version?
Dev means the developer of the app, in this case oasisfeng.

Oh, thanks! Never knew that I can tap on "Working Mode" in Greenify! I use a free version.
So, I have Exposed and I enabled the Greenify module there, next I came back to Greenify itself and changed the Mode to Boost.
Could you please explain what the Greenify in Accessibility menu serves for?

I am not sure but I think that it enables Greenify to have access to notifications so that the relevant app can be woken up when a notification is received.
Is your problem solved? By the way, did you reboot after enabling Greenify in Xposed?

Hm, it is very interesting what is the function of this "Greenify" accessibility feature...
Since it was quite a pain to solve the swipe issue I did not enable again the Greenify in accessibility menu - I need the phone in full functionality now.
Probably I'll try to play with this feature later, but it was one-way road - I could not switch it off, thus again... I decided to postpone these "jokes"...

I have the same problem after the last update with my Galaxy S3. If I enable accessibility it doesn't change the language on the keyboard, and if I disable the accessibility, it doesn't let me to stop any app that I select to stop. No-root device, no-root mode for greenify.
Any solutions for that?
Thanks

I am facing issues with notifications. The phone doesnt show notification for some apps, unless we open the app. And this is not happening all the time, but is happening frequently.
Anyone know reason and fix?

EUI seems to have very aggressive battery optimization. For apps that do not rely on push notifications, you will need to disable auto cleaning in Power saving management/App protection. Otherwise they may get killed when running in background.
Also, check if one of these is not the reason of your problems:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/le-max-2/how-to/delayed-push-notifications-14s-fix-t3383912
I had the same problem too with Transparent Weather and Power Amp. So therefore go to Settings > Permissions > and allow Your App to launch
Same problem here. I have not found a way to reliably handle this. Tried allowing auto start for apps as well. And it should NOT be the solution that you have to lock every app in the Taskmanager and have all apps u wanna see push notifications from opened all the time. Because well, push notifications were made so you get the info when you DON'T have the app opened.
I would really like to get to the bottom of this as it really annoys me. Not even when my Internet was disabled and gets enabled it pulls all notifications. I have to open every app one after another to really see if something happened. That is a huge nono for a 2016 flagship IMHO :/
Please guys, let's try to get this fixed!
You have to set up those apps with permission to autostart and in "Battery / Power saving management / App protection" to prevend them from killing. After doing this, those apps will work as expected...

I've been using Greenify for years and love the app. Since Marshmallow, Android has included a kill app(s) option from the recent apps button menu. With this option, is Greenfiy necessary anymore? The one benefit to using Greenify I can think of is that it does the hibernation automatically after you lock the screen vs manually having to do it with the Android kill option but are there other benefits to using Greenfiy over the Android built-in option?

Killing and hibernation are two different things. Ability to terminate individual apps from the recents menu has been around since at least KitKat. Greenify still has value in Marshmallow depending on configuration and expectations.

Yep - you said "kill". As for needing Greenify original response remains accurate. If you are satisfied Marshmallow's limited implementation of doze/hibernate and battery endurance is satisfactory there is no reason to retain Greenify. If you want more control Greenify is probably best-in-breed when it comes to hibernation emulation/helper apps.
Is there a way to add Android's "Doze" shortcut to the home screen?
I'm on a galaxy s7 oreo in no root mode. As soon as I check the automatic hibernation option it uncheckes itself. I really want to setup greenify to auto hibernate my selected apps as soon as they start.

The option you cite will not accomplish that goal. Automatic hibernation activates shortly after screen-off...not when the app becomes active.

Gotcha, is there an option to either stop immediately, or even prevent an app from starting all together? If not, I would at least like to get the option that is not working working so it will at least activate on screen lock. Thanks.

I don't know why automatic hibernation is not staying checked on your device. There is probably a logical explanation; I just don't know it off-the-cuff.
Greenified apps generally remain hibernated unless 'activated' by an event or another app. It either case Greenify will note the trigger and give you the option to 'cut' it off.
You can enable 'wake up tracking' and 'quick action notification' in settings for additional flexibility/control. Greenify also includes a couple widgets and other controls (eg: long press action on nav bar) for manually invoking hibernation.
