ShareIt does not work "well" on T820 because the S3 cannot initialize a WiFi hotspot to communicated directly with an ios device. By "well" I mean communicating directly with an iPhone without an external router. Is there a way to make the T820 into a WiFi AP (WiFi hotspot)?

I just got my new Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 WIFI version. I am able to connect to the internet smoothly with my home WLAN network. However, when I turn on the wifi hotspot from my mobile phone, the tab does not recognize it (WIFI analyzer can though). My Lenovo laptop can see it and connect via it to the internet, so the hotspot itself is working.
I am just wondering if connecting to wifi hotspot is really supported in the tab and/or Android 3.1?
Thank you for your advice in advance
Connecting to an "Access Point" Hotspot works fine, tested it with my Galaxy S. Maybe your phone opens an Ad Hoc network?
thanks. this seems to be right into the point. i use symbian phone running joiku, and it indeed seems to support adhoc mode only. so anyway to enable adhoc wifi connecting support in my tab?
Haven't tried it myself but it seems there is a patch in the development section which enables ad-hoc network detection/connection (Tab needs to be rooted): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1123638
Thank you. Now I have managed to make the adhoc wifi connecting work by following the instructions behind the above link
hi fellows
i just installed a 4g device in my laptop for internet access. It working fine. Next i made the laptop a hotspot via adhoc connection and after that though internet is fine but i am unable to connect my samsung sii via wifi with it. Even though a friends iphone connected to my lappys hotspot but my phone doesn't and neither does it show that a hotspot/ wifi connections exists.
help
Ad Hoc was designed only for local connections, not Internet.
Use Connectify to make hotspot.

You need to setup a virtual router or if your laptop has a router you can share net via that, originally custom roms does not support ad hoc, but certain roms are modified to enable it.
Using GT - I9100
I thank those who give helpful comments
I expect the same from others.
Router has wlan infrastructure mode, not adhoc. It doesn't matter if the ROM supports it or not.
I want to host an INFRASTRUCTURE (not AD-HOC), otherwise known as a SoftAP (Access point) on wifi. This is possible with many applications, but they all want to use a mobile data connection. Is there any application that allows you to host a SoftAP WITHOUT a 2G/3G/4G connection? This is just for playing over WIFI between a samsung galaxy s3 and an older android 2.1 tablet. These cannot see AdHoc networks.
Anyways, I'm interested in any application that allows hosting of an infrastructure WiFi network without tethering to just host a wireless lan point.
Bump
I am also very interested in a solution/app like this.
A photo app (MoPhotos) will work with my EyeFi WiFi card to transfer photos from the card in my camera to my computer/Android device via Wifi.
Currently, the card has to go through the home router as that what it looks for to give it a IP Address and network to connect to the computer/Android.
If there is a way for the Android device to be a Wifi HotSpot without the mobile tethering, I can configure the card to talk directly to the Android, which would be *very* helpful when out and about.
How to enable wifi (receiving) and wifi tethering (emiting) silmutaneously on android phone?
Hi everybody.
Newbee here.
I've searched everywhere on google but nothing:
Please don't ask the reason I want it for.
Telling question as clearly as I can:
How to:
1. turn on wifi receiving on my android phone
and
2. turn on tethering (by wifi) emiting
on my android smartphone.
Most android phones cannot do that. Why?
ZTE Mimosa V-857 can.
Archos Titanium can't.
How to make this?
Meaning, having silmutaneously
1. Wifi receiving by android smartphone (e.g. by a wifi hotspot)
and
2. Tethering (wifingly) emiting by android smartphone (eg. to a laptop)
without shutting down of one (1. or 2.) after turning on the other (2. or 1.)
Thanks a lot.

Because the wifi tether needs cellular data to transmit and almost every phone disconnects wifi to use data and vice versa. You can use PDANet to pass through your wifi connection to a PC, but that's about it.

Thanks a lot for your reply.
Downloaded PDANetplus
(no PDANet found on google play)
on smartphone.
but while all (in laptop) seem to be comected with "FoxFi.." network (created by tethering from smartphone)
no pages are dowloaded.
Shall I have to make smthing else on my laptop?
Thanks
Seems to have to make something extra on my 64-bit win7 laptop( "DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NO_INTERNET" error message on downloading pages). Correct?
PDANetplus requires Wifi (receiving) enable firstly,
after that connects to home wifi (while turning off Wifi receiving icon from smartphone)
and turns on tethering (wifi mode chosen) in a new "FoxFi.." SSID.
"FoxFi.." is emitting , so that laptop can get into it,
and all seem ok
but no pages downloaded on laptop!!!
To be honest I want to make this procedure with an android 2.3 home (DECT) smartphone [Sagemcom Alium].
DECT signal (1800-1900 MHz) can reach longer distances than WiFi signal (2400MHz)
so that I can receive (by DECT) signal the WiFi from another house (30m away) where no wifi repeater can reach reliably!
My question is
if I can make coexist WiFi (receiving) and Tethering (emitting) on this "smartphone" [Sagemcom Alium].
Why other smartphones (e.g. ZTE Mimosa V-857 android 2.3) can make coexistance (wifi and tethering [wifinly]) without any PDANet
and most of smartphones can't?
Is there a safety issue behind?
Thanks again.
Sorry for the many words!
I had root, loved the ability to have the hotspot with xposed, but hated the lag and battery life.
Tried to flash a ROM and got stuck in a bootloop.
Without access to a computer I had to visit a Bestbuy Samsung Experience kiosk to restore my S7.
Unable to root my device again I was immediately upset to find out I couldn't get hotspot again.
I relied on my hotspot because I have the newer unlimited plan with AT&T and DirecTv bundle.
I use my phone as my apartments entire wifi access relying it for my Chromecast, tablets and my game systems.
I felt stuck without it and almost called an internet provider but then I remembered the phone has wifi sharing.
So the Chromecast has an open Wifi signal if it's not connected to wifi itself.
I connect to it with my phone then immediately go to Mobile Hotspot turn it on and then go to the more options and select wifi sharing off.
Which then disconnects from wifi and the only uses the hotspot there for still having the ability to have hotspot I am able to connect the Chromecast to my hotspot and the other devices as well.
The only reason I really wanted/needed root was for this feature so it might help the next or it may have been brought up already.
I am also on the Sept PI2 update.
So as long as you have an open Wifi
(with or without internet access)
you can turn on Mobile Hotspot with wifi sharing on first
then after the Hotspot is activated
you can turn wifi sharing off to keep the Hotspot on.
Again sorry if this has been posted somewhere.
This no longer work with nougat update...
Flash the G930U firmware and hotspot works "right out of the box" with no fixes or tweaks. I can confirm it works as I flashed my G930A to the "U".
