I have verizon and i dont feel like paying the $2.99 a month for it.. But for some reason on my us998 it doesnt tell me when i get new voicemails right now..
bump
I have used You mail for almost 6 years now. You can block callers where they can't even leave a VM, greet callers by name (if in your contacts) etc. It's great! I'd give that a try.
Unless you're talking about a caller ID app cause I can't find one either
Google Voice has been great for me. And it's free!

Google Voice, been using it for at least 5 years now..

Has anyone else been having problems with their texts never making it to the recipient?
I've been texting a verizon number a lot and every day, a few of my texts will never show up on the other end. I was wondering if anyone has faced this before.
I call tech support they had me do the usual, pull the battery, remote "refresh" but my texts are still getting lost in space.
Had a facebook message that didn't get received until like two years later

I had this problem. Til I disassociated my Sprint phone # with my Google voice acct. Problem solved.
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
So did you have one number that was both Google voice and Sprint? I currently have my Google voice forward stuff to my sprint number but I doubt that would be problematic.
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
I linked my Sprint number to Google voice a while back to not use my Sprint minutes or texts. I didn't just forward. Once I undid it, my texts started working again, not one problem.
I originally had a separate GV number.

This has happened to me as well, I was asked by someone if I got a text because I never responded. But yeah, didn't get a thing
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
This happens to me too sometimes. Only thing is abt 2 days later, the texts come flooding in all at once. So Google voice is the culprit? Interesting...
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
Same exact thing for me. I logged into Google voice, clicked phones, unchecked my Sprint #, and all is working now.
This has happened to me consistently since I signed up with sprint two years ago.

What can I use to receive and make calls from my note without using my plans minutes.
I have tmobiles $30 plan. 100 minutes, unlimited web(5gb 4g limit) and text.
I really don't make any calls.
I only call my wife and friends here and there.
And I used them up in a week.
I purchased a Skype online number but doesn't work very well. Sometimes get calls and sometimes I don't.

Have you tried Google Voice yet?
I use Viber for international calls. Good interface. Easy for other types of phones to get/install the client on their end.
Google voice is so confusing. I guess I'm doing something wrong.
I only need it to make local calls. I don't have international friends.
But I will give viber a test.
I'm going to ask Skype for a refund.
It doesn't work for me:/
And I made a payment twice.
Thanks guys!!!

Just letting everyone that you can make phonecalls with ease.
The app GrooVeIP makes it easy. Ive been using this app for a long time on my devices and was pleasantly surprised when i found out it worked with the N10.
Make sure to enable echo cancelation! Enjoy talking and multitasking on the N10! Confirmed working.

This is good to hear! I'm currently in Afghanistan and I use this app on my SII to make free calls back to the states

I was wondering the same thing - why is grooveIP / skype / etc popular on Android when Google Voice is right there?
I'm not saying that there isn't a reason, I'm genuinely curious, I must be missing something?
GrooVeIP uses Google voice if i'm not mistaken. It makes it behave like you're using a regular phone rather than a system app. I prefer it and will always prefer sip.

That's what I mean. What happens with GrooveIP when the free calling ends in January?

Here is one:
http://www.pcworld.com/article/254733/three_things_you_should_know_about_google_voice.html
There are lots of others if you Google "Google voice free ending 2012"
Only reason I ask is like others have mentioned GV doesn't have MMS so without it if they start charging users - they're going to lose a lot of potential customers to, mainly, Skype.
Anyway, I hope it doesn't end and it gets extended into 2013. We'll see. GrooVeIP is still working well and if Google Voice starts charging I'm sure there are other alternatives around
Enjoy it while it lasts!

You can make calls from the voice app.
I use sipdroid, works great and its free.

GrooveIP on my phone works very well for free phone calls over Data or WiFi, haven't tried it on the tablet yet though.
Highly recomend, it basically uses the calling function that Gmail/Gtalk offers for free. Very sweet!
The wife and I have iPhone's and use iMessage, but this week I'm going to try out a Verizon galaxy note 2 for my work phone. What are my options for replacing iMessage. The wife does not have texting on her iPhone plan.
Thanks in advance.
Maybe you'll want to try Kik?
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda app-developers app
There's no iMessage compatability for Android. I'd suggest possibly having her use Google Voice (if the app is avaliable for iOS still) for her to text you and vice versa (if you have texting).
whatsapp
LiveProfile - can send photos and videos too and has the read receipts and "typing" indicator
Or Whatsapp - seems to be pretty popular
I use Google voice, but your wife would have to have a number to do so - maybe gchat?

Both of you can download Voxer. It's free and works for texts and pics.
Try kakao talk

If you have facebook their messaging app is pretty good, and free.

iMessage is proprietary crap. Install Google Voice on both devices (Android and iOS) and use standard SMS for free within North America. On top of that, install Groove IP and make/take phone calls for free within North America over 4G LTE.

Except it's best to say iMessage is literally the Apple version of gtalk that can only be used on Apple devices.
But I guess if I'm getting real nitpicky...props to AOL, the first?

True, if you're getting picky
Regardless, its installed on every Android phone and is accessible through GMail and Google+.
actually you can do group messages with the included standard messaging application. Just make sure you disable your imessage on your iphones before using your android phones. If you dont and someone responds back to a text using imessage and it will sit on apples servers waiting for your iphone to come back online. Happened to me. Didnt receive texts from iphone users until i disabled the imessage feature on the iphones.
Verizon's visual voice mail is giving me lots of problems on the G3. Well actually the same problems after the kitkat update on the G2 too. 50% of the time I get a no data connection error and have to refresh. That or turn off wifi for a while which seems to handle it better. It's a real nuisance. Anyone else see anything like this? I'm thinking it's a combination of Kitkat and Verizon.
Yes. It's horrible. Same on Droid Maxx.
My solution is perfect. Use youmail visual voicemail. And use the app better youmail. It avoids the annoying contact sync that youmail uses. And you can change every setting and then some.
The only feature that doesn't work is, if you integrate the voicemail in your call log, it will show up but you can't hit play. But if you have a notification of a missed voicemail it will play from there just fine.
Highly recommend. Worth the cost.

They also don't say how much it is on the play site. Is it a monthly service or one time charge?
One time charge for the app. 4.99 I think. It's worth it. No annoying contact sync that youmail app has.

The voice mail notifications seem to clear and not return whereas on my s3 cleared voice mail notifications would come back.
To me it is the worst thing about the phone. It's almost unusable. How can it be so hard to manage voice mail? This is the kind of stuff that makes me re-think iphones as an option. . . . nah.. not yet.
Seriously, it is a hand off issue I think. This should just silently fail until it gets a good enough signal. It's just amazingly annoying otherwise.
If I put in my T-Mobile sim and install their visual voicemail, it works great. Same with Cricket.

Google Voice.
By the way, I tried that Youtalk app and it was the worst piece of S I have ever tried to use. It didn't work at all. I'll just suffer through the missed data connections of the Verizon app.
Why not use Google voice?

It's a work phone and I don't want to use Google voice. I want Verizon voicemail to work correctly. If it can't work on wifi, then it should ignore wifi. It doesn't. verizon needs to fix this to work better.

I mean we are on an android OS... The beauty of android is that if your voicemail app isn't working you have tons of options in the play store for visual voicemail. I would recommend YouMail..best visual voicemail out there IMO..

Amen to youmail! Love using it with better youmail app to avoid annoying contact sync and gain extra features. Disappointed that vm call log integration doesn't work well though.
