Hi!
Im going to buy new device soon, but I can't decide which phone is more worthy to buy.
I know Mi A1 have stock android, but I hope I can easily install custom roms on Redmi Note 4.
I don't seriously care about camera, and built in storage.
Is there a big difference then?

It depends upon your choice, are you a person who likes pure stock android? Or are you a person who likes customisation?
Android version should not be a case to consider, because redmi note 4x got the android 8.1 within a month of its release. Also if you want performance please note that both phones have same chipset but stock android or custom rom gives upto 10x more performance than stock miui, and i have a whole thread containing bechmarks of different custom roms.
So the main point is that
If you don't really want to root and just want a pure stock android experience with no mods, go for mi a1, but if you are ready to root and want to be a part of the development community, go for redmi note 4x,
Since you said you don't care about the camera i didn't mention it, but if your budget allows go for the 64 gb variant of redmi note 4x with 4 gb ram because it will help with performance in coming years.
Hope this helped

I think if you want to have a look at an alternative for a phone with root and custom roms, have a look at the LeEco Le Max 2 X820. There is an official LineageOS out for that too. The plus points of that are: uncomplicated unlocking of the bootloader compared to the Xiaomi way. Then it has a SD 820 cpu and Qualcom Quick Charge 3, which the Redmi Note 4 doesn't have with any stock rom and the Mi A1 only with the MIUI9 beta rom.
Also have in mind that you check your carrier frequencies, as there are different models of the Redmi Note 4 and also of the Le Max 2. For me it was important to have the LTE band 3 (1800) and 20 (800). Therefore in my case the Redmi Note 4 Global 3GB/32GB was my choice and I did not find out about the Le Max 2 after I ordered.
Go for the Note4 if you dont care about the camera. Why? The community at xda has faaaar more ROMs to offer and you find here fantastic support.

No big price difference? At least gearbest offers the 64 GB variant regularly for around 130€. The Mi A1 is sold there temporarly for 185€. Check the german Website above to find the coupon code. https://www.chinahandys.net/xiaomi-mi-a1-angebot/
Hint: You need to be logged in with your account to have the code working.
Go rn4
Bigger battery n community better than phone looks and dual camera gimmick.
With the new mods we have hdr+, potrait mode like dual camera, etc... If you're lucky, you get sony / samsung sensor... Its better compared to a1 omnivision sensor.
You always can go pure android using any los/aosp based custom roms. It have no bloatware like stock android one rom.

Hi, I am kinda bored of my Moto G3 which have only 8gb memory.
I would like to buy the best q/p phone I can found. So I saw the Xiaomi's phone.
Then I saw the Redmi Note 3 Pro and the Redmi Note 4.
I am wondering, is the Kenzo/Kate still worth buying at the end of year 2016?
If yes, should I consider the Kenzo or Kate?
I don't care about 4G but I care about ROMS (=Kenzo), accessories (=Kenzo) and built quality (=Kate? Newer is better?) as the aftersale can be a real problem with this phone.
And what about the Redmi Note 4? I would trust him more for the build quality but I might be wrong... I know that there is a poor amount of rom/update but if the phone is smooth enough it might be enough for me.
My thanks guys
Go for the Kenzo, you won't regret it.
What you will regret though is wasting your money on the Redmi Note 4 aka a pile of trash.

Still worth it, i have the RN3 Snapdragon since 02/16 and was thinking to buy a new device, of course the build quality is better on the RN4 and it is looking a little bit nicer, but the RN4 isn't so smooth as the RN3 in some points, for example in gaming, the camera with ONLY 13mp / the software for the camera is also not good, but this is a known miui problem for likely all devices.
You can also find some threads in the miui forum, that Nougat or higher will not be supported for the RN4, but for the RN3 causes of the MTK-chipset. You can find hundreds of cons & pros at the miui forum or somewhere else but at all i'm thinking the RN3 is a good choice and take the Kenzo, more stable than the Kate one for me.
Hope that this will help you a bit :good:
Greetings

If i buy it I will pray that they won't release a 4 with 652 or a Redmi 5 in a month :v and that i won't have any hardware issue
I am not sur I can trust Top one, but they are the only one who sales the white RN3P
I want RN4 for design and smoothness but I am also considering Redmi 4 Prime for snapdragon processor

Yeah, run this one, Top One is legit and ask if you can get the phone SEALED!
I think it is running a custom vendors rom, not so great, if you can get it sealed, it would be better because you dont have to flash an original rom.
When you get it with a vendors rom, then flash over fastboot with mi flash, if fastboot isn't working, simply turn your phone into EDL mode, then flash it :good:
Look on Miui Forum for the tutorial

Kenzo have more roms, this is why I want a Kenzo or at least flash Kenzo roms on Kate. I don't care about 4g
I think this phone is still a good buy. I went with Kate just so I could get LTE here in the States. I was getting sick of 3G/H+ speeds with my past 5 Xiaomi devices.

I am confused about which of these 2 phones to buy can someone please help me and what about future updates in both these phones ?
Go for the mi A1, dual cameras and stock Android with 2 years of updates. It's one of the best midrangers of the year. However, if you can wait, then wait for the redmi note 5. It could come with a SD 660.
Mi A1 is more expensive but clearly superior
Mi A1 has better cameras.
Note 4 has better bettery life.
MIUI vs Stock Android is irrelevant here I think, since both has already had tons of development threads.
You just can just flash whichever ROM you like, whether it's AOSP-based or MIUI-based.
Or just wait for the Note 5, it *might* come with a 630 or even 660. But I predict it would come with a 630 (or even 625 again), since the Mi Note 3 already has the 660.
I will go for redmi note 4, which i am currently using it as a backup.
If you're into tinkering and etc stuffs go for Mido, otherwise mi A1.

It's the same phone. It simply has different names in different countries. Just make sure it's the Snapdragon version.
Depending on where you live, you may want to buy the Global version of the phone which supports more LTE bands (like band 20 in Europe).
But to be honest with you, I wouldn't buy the Note 4X anymore.
The Note 5/Note 5 Pro is already out.
The MI A1 ist basically a Note 4X with pure Android instead of MIUI and dual camera.
The Redmi 5/Redmi 5 Plus is basically a Note 4X with a 18:9 display instead of 16:9.
The new Mi 6X came out recently with a better CPU, dual cameras and MIUI.
The MI A2 (the same phone as Mi 6X but with pure Android instead of MIUI) will be announced soon.
So all roms and kernels of snapdragon will be compatible to both 4 and 4x as long its snapdragon? Thank you for the suggestions. I'll look for redmi note 5 pro

You need to buy the phone with Snapdragon 625. Depending where you life, it's called either Redmi Note 4X or Redmi Note 4 Global Edition.
Just make sure that you buy the phone with Snapdragon and not MTK (MediaTek) processor

That is good to know, However there is one thing I would like too add:
Xiaomi is very bad in the development scene, they do not provide kernel source and devices trees for developers to build custom roms or kernels, and currently the Redmi Note 4 has both, while new devices probably don't.
If you care about custom roms/kernels ( and everyone here at XDA probably do) check the device respective development threads before purchasing the device to see if there is any activity.
Since basically in my opinion MIUI is a version mess.
Check for the processor. Don't buy the Note with mediatek chipset.
Xiaomi MI series vs. Xiaomi REDMI series = which line is better?
Everybody knows that Mi series goal is to be better than Redmi at least in specs and performance.
But how about performance to price ratio, how about all other things that You dont worry and dont expect in REDMI casue it's cheap but You do expect it in the MI series?
What are the problems/things that You don't like in MI series?
What are the problems/things that You don't like in REDMI series if there is any? WHY? Cause we all know not to expect wonders for a low budget priced phones.
I've talked to many people who had/have REDMI and MI series Xiaomi phones (clients, selllers, internet folks, friends) and they only agree on ONE thing -the price is great wheter it is REMI or MI phone.
A strange thing happens.... REDMI owners are always satisfied. The only thing that bothers not all of them is the camera quality.
But in low and middle price segment REDMI beats EVERY other BRAND.
Xiaomi has also great prices in the high end flagship models but here MANY PEOPLE are dissapointed.
For example camera quality, screen quiality, body, bezel, bugs, no NFC, no european B20 LTE band.
The MI users also tell me that non of the above bothers them but something totaly different. EACH person = an original problem with MI device.
Can You please tell me what are Your problems/dislikes with MI and REDMI devices cause I'm about to buy one from each segment?
What should I worry about (Android updates maybe?) buying a REDMI and a MI phone IN YOUR PERSONAL EXPERIANCE?
The biggest difference besides hardware is updates. Redmi devices usually only get one major update for example the note 4x was released with 6.0 and then got 7.0 but will never officially see anything higher. Although I don't find that a big issue because MIUI rom gets security updates and features from higher android version added. Also most devices get updated MIUI versions for example note 4x released with MIUI 8 then got 9 and now 10 is slowly becoming available. Also wifi hardware is subpar on redmi devices. Again I will use the note 4x for example. It does not have 802.11ac and using 802.11n you are capped at 150MB/s and 2.4 ghz band doesn't do 2 channel bonding unless you have root and edit the proper files.
Camera quality I can't really say much about. I am not a big picture taker and what I do take seems fine.
If you are concerned about radio bands then there really is only one choice. The MI Mix has pretty much every band you could ever want.

So REDMI get less Android uprades than MI series.
The LTE bands are slowly beginning to be a no issue as more and more devices get the whole Global LTE bands.
Redmi's or hongmi's are the low to mid-range smartphones and the MI's are the mid to high-range smartphones and flagships..
So go with the Mi's but phones like the Redmi 5 Plus, Redmi Note 5 Pro, the New Redmi 6 series and the old Redmi Note 4(Qualcomm) arent bad either.
Phones you got to avoid are the Redmi Y2/S2 due to terrible software decisions(it runs a 32-bit OS on a 64-bit CPU! like the old Redmi 2 series) and if you wanna develop for a device, avoid the Redmi Note 3(Qualcomm) due to the community being a little meh.

I've heard the exact same thing form a reliable source so it must be true what you're telling me about MI and REDMI in general.
Redmi Y2/S2 terrible software(?! software!?) specs is new to me.
It is disturbing tho causue Redmi S2 is a good phone on paper (perfANDstuff/price ratio) yet You tell me to watch out. This is bad.
Also Redmi Note 5 has probably (heard rumors) some issues, the most recurring one is with the camera mode - unfortunatly one user delivered the XDA community an info stating that it might not be a soft issue but a hardware issue (same error happens on stock and on custom rom).

Still you can build 64-bit LineageOS or port 64-bit MIUI from Redmi 6 Pro

Most people are going with the pro variant of this phone.
I picked the non pro because the pro variant was over £130 (around 50% more than the Mi 9T respectively) more expensive. I'm not in desperate need of the the extra processing power albeit nice, it was not worth the extra cost. Bonus: Battery life is better on the the Mi 9T.
What about you?
Exactly same reasons as you
The pro is marginally more expensive where I live (to the point where other phones are possible competitors in the same price range), and I don't play any heavy games on my phone.
I do, however, care a lot about my battery - so the regular was a no-brainer - awesome performance with better battery life? No brainer.

Because processing power is overrated these days lol plus 99% of the time, the phone will be used for videos/web browsing/porn. I'm sure i wouldn't be able to tell a difference. And that it's cheaper of course.
cheaper cost and battery efficient.
Battery life was more important for me than processing power. Also price, I'm of the idea that spending more than 300€ on a phone makes no sense.
Because there was no mi 9t pro still and only mi9t was available and i was using pocophone with very bad screen so i am glad to move to this beautiful phone until i back to flagship era next year
for me i don't see any reason to pay more
