"settings put system volume_music_speaker (X_value)" only applies after reboot
If I run for example "settings put system volume_music_speaker 5" thought adb with SU and the current speaker volume is 0 this value wont update. Only after I do a reboot of the device this value changes to 5. Why is this command not updating the different volume levels (speaker and headset for example) in real time? Is there any way I can change this? Or is there perhaps a different command that I could use instead.
Suggestions are welcome.
"Why would you want to know this?" I want to make it so that if I leave from home that the speaker volume goes to 0 and the volume of my earphones goes to a level for music listing regardless of something is plugged in via the headphone jack. This would naturally be done with Tasker.

So, there's 6 volumes available (ignoring DTMF) in Android, here's what I think each do so far:-
1. Alarm Volume (A)
USAGE - Alarms, I think
OUTPUTS - Speaker (always) and headphones (if connected)
VOLUME RANGE - 0 to 7
2. In-Call Volume (C)
USAGE - Used for phone conversations
OUTPUTS - Headphones (if connected) or earpiece (if no headphones connected)
VOLUME RANGE - 0 to 5
3. Media Volume (M)
USAGE - Used for most stuff (game sounds, music)
OUTPUTS - Headphones (if connected) or speaker (if no headphones connected)
VOLUME RANGE - 0 to 15
4. Notification Volume (N)
USAGE - Used for SMS ring tones (AFAICS)
OUTPUTS - Speaker (always) and headphones (if connected)
VOLUME RANGE - 0 to 7
5. Ringer Volume (R)
USAGE - Ring-tone when call is incoming
OUTPUTS - Speaker (always) and headphones (if connected)
VOLUME RANGE - 0 to 7
6. System Volume (S)
USAGE - Used for system sounds (key press etc.)
OUTPUTS - Headphones (if connected) or speaker (if no headphones connected)
VOLUME RANGE - 0 to 7
Alarm, Ringer, and Notification are obviously similar in behaviour, but having them as separate volumes makes sense. More importantly none can be used in the situation where headphones are plugged in AND privacy is needed (ie. play a sound through headphones but not through speaker).
System Volume seems ideal for that purpose, but for some reason even at volume 7 its still incredibly soft through the headphones. In general it seems much softer than every other available volume.
Media Volume is mixed (music played sounds at the same time as speech from another app, for example). This is great, but causes a problem when combined with the odd-one-out - In-Call Volume...
In-Call Volume seems to use Media Volume's stream, but augmenting it. The side effect if that if this stream is used, any currently playing media bursts your ear-drums because it gets amplified as well.
Is there a way to change how these volumes interact? I'm especially trying to divorce in-call volume from media volume, or amplify system volume by at least 20 dB.....
Hello i find the S2 when you listen to music not really loud not with speakers not with headphones any way to get the S2 louder on speakers and headphones?? Not with app or such things i tried all and nothing fits my needs.
not my work but it might help you
I found the incall volume to be a little low. When you max out the volume using the volume button it actually only goes to a default setting of 87 out of 100. If you would like to change the default settings here is what you need to do.
call this number *#*#197328640#*#*
This will open the service mode menu.
choose option [5] AUDIO
choose option [1] (VOICE CALL)
choose option [1] HANDSET
choose option [1] Volume
choose option [1] SRC Speech RX Volume
choose option [5] 5_lvl : 87
press the menu button (left side)
choose Key Input
enter a value between 0 and 100, I choose 100 the loudest setting.
press ok
now press the menu button and select back this should save (don't use the right side back key you normally use to navigate the phone or you will quit out of the settings) keep hitting the menu and back until you leave the service mode menu.
You will also note you can change volume settings for other things like bluetooth, head sets, video call etc.
Note: this is not permanent, if you turn off the phone it resets back to the default levels .
not only when you turn the phone off it will reset the phone settings back to the default levels, the new settings will last max 1 or 2 phone calls. Try to make new settings and make 2 calls and check the settings again. Yes the volume on SGS 2 is very very low, and Samsung does nothing about it. I only hope that reports about volume beeing louder in 2.3.5. are true.
i haven't noticed the sound being low on mine, maybe because i am into heavy metal. Could it be the type of music YOU listen to?
also bear in mind, it's a mobile phone and not a hifi system.
Hi I have these two issues I hope people can assist with
1. Turning phone on silent - how do I turn off the confirmation, I just want ti set to silent and not to set to silent without the extra dialog box coming up to confirm
2. Music volume, I have my phone set at a certain volume (maximum) as I plug it into the AUX cable of my car, it now always reduces the volume with a message that loud music is harmful.
I do these tasks often so find it terribly annoying. Is there anyway to change it.
Thank you,
FORNEUS
Hi,
I have an Elephone P9000 and I just realized the audio comes out only from the right side (bottom of the phone)
Does this phone only have one speaker (mono) or it's just broken and I have to get it fixed?
Thanks,
Gaetano
Is right , P9000 have only One speaker

The phone has only one speaket built in. The holes in the other side are just for the looks.
This is actually a sad thing to do from the people at ELephone.
Not to mention the photoshop on the pictures to show less bezel.
I can't complain about the phone, but those things bother me a lot.
Is there any way to lower the volume of the phone? In bed I like to listen to talk radio as an fall asleep but the speaker is just too ****ing loud. On my S4 the lowest volume setting was fine, I could put it beneath my pillow and listen. The lowest volume setting on the P9000 is still quite loud so I can't use it.
This sucks, weird situation I know. Any way to change it?
You can change the minimum volume in the Engineering Mode
Fran Montero is right.
If you go to the MTK engineering settings, you're able to tune the volume amplitude for each audio output and for each audio level.
For this, access the MTK engineering by using a specific program in the playstore or by compsing the following code in the phone dialer: *#*#3646633#*#*
In the menu, go to the "Hardware Testing" tab, and select "Audio" in the list.
Next, select "Volume" , then "Audio Playback".
In this new menu, you have to choose which source you want to modify, and after which audio output you're targeting.
Below these 2 settings, you can see a list of 16 indexes (Index 0 to Index 15).
These indexes corresponds to the number of steps you have when you press the Volume +/- keys.
In you're case, you should select "Music" as source and "Speaker" as audio output.
If you want to level down the sound of the lowest audible level of your phone, go to Index 1 and change the value to a smaller one (Mine is set to 88. it could be set to 50 for example).
After you modify it, go completely down of the screen, press the "Set" button, wait for the successful setting pop-up window, confirm it, go out from the MTK Engineering menu and restart your phone to take your new audio value setting in account.
If everything's goes well (and if I'm not wrong with my advice...) your phone should output a sound level less louder than usual in the first volume level.
If you want to change all the audio steps to have a more lean volume curve, feel free to do it as you want.
Just keep in mind that each level can be set from 0 to 255 (0 = Silent / 255 = MAX) and that it's not a good idea to apply the maximum value in one of the settings, as it could harm the audio device output if continuously used at this max level.
To tell you the truth, it seems the default setting of the P9000 is not very clean as I can see that all the Index 15 audio output settings are at 255 value....
I can try to use an Oscilloscope to see if the sound is not distorted by these innapropriate value.
Or maybe the PGA settings has something to do with that. I haven't found the meaning of this setting, but it's probably the value setting of the Gain used for the power amplifier linked to each audio output.
Need to clarify it, but I don't have time now.
Tell us if these advice worked for you.
This is a simple modification to the MTK Settings
It's tested in the following roms: (might work on 6.0 but not sure)
- Stock Rom
- Eragon V1
What it does, it enhances the headphone's sound to its full potential
All you have to do is:
1: Enable Debug Options (settings, about phone, press build version several times, go back to settings and there should be a new option there, open it and close settings).
2: Download MTK Engineering Mode from playstore.
3: After Installing it, Open it and select MTK Settings.
4: Go on Hardware Testing - Audio - Volume - Audio Playback.
5: On 3/4-pole Headset set the Headset PGA to 160 and save.
6: Test and see the differences ?
It's a really simple modification, but if you have any questions, feel free to ask ?
hi, I did that but volume is still too low for me (I'm hard on hearing).
do you know which file contains those values, I would like to set it higher than 160 (I'm rooted)?

you cant set to higher than that, and even if it could it would just degrade the speakers even more, causing to either malfunction or lose eveb more volume to a point of no returb... This is a modification to the earphones only, you can mess with the speakers and put on the max that the app allows, but thats it, anything above the limits will degrade the speakers.

thank you for your response!
sorry if I didn't make it clear; I was talking about earphones, not phone speaker. I want louder sound on my earphones!
I edited some volume file in vendor\etc folder, made headset PGA value to 250, but it didn't do anything...

The 160 is the max volume.
So, if instead of applying for 3/4 pole Headset I apply it for Speaker label it will improve the sound on my Elephone speaker?

it might enhance, but the sound quality is already bad.. enhancing it even more will mostlikelly cause even more distortion
