need to downgrade - Huawei Mate 10 Questions & Answers

hello everyone. recently i updated to B128 and i feel like battery is bad and performance is weak. i need to downgrade to b126 now but its not available at hwmt.ru so is there any way to do that? also i dont understand why my phone's basemark x score is bad (28k) once it gave me 38k but never again. gaming performance seems fine tho. also i dont know how the AI works for improving battery or performance. been using it since 1 month without root and didnt notice any difference. no matter if set to WQHD or FHD the battery is going fast. it doesnt look like hardware fault or anything like that tho, because the phone was fine on b126.
thanks in advance for the help

EDIT: i figured out that power genius and phone manager apps are the problem. froze them with root and now the phone is working faster, but i dont know what are the side effects of keeping these two disabled besides screen resolution and battery stats. but does this make the battery worse? im unable to figure this out

how did you figured out that it was these apps ?

Depends on your full build number, (xxx-LxxCxxxBxxx or xxx-Lxx 8.0.0.128(Cxxx))
Found in Settings - System - About phone

Iam from Egypt and for me the 128 was better with battery and power consumption than 126 with a noticeable difference

downgrade through firmware finder. BUT back-up first before downgrading since you need to restore factory settings after downgrading (boot loop)

what img files are needed to flash in fastboot mode in order to downgrade? planning to downgrade from 136 to 135, using mate 10 c636. won't it get hard-bricked like some newer firmwares? thanks!

[Q] Xperia Mini ("Smultron") - baseband upgrade a good idea? If so, how to?

I bought an Xperia Mini two days ago, and successfully flashed a recent build of FXP (the popular CyanogenMod 7 fork for this phone) onto it. Everything is working quite well, but the battery drain is truly astounding: even when the phone is doing absolutely nothing but idling in its 3G network, a fully charged battery lasts for about 10 hours, which of course is totally unacceptable. The battery consumption overview lists "Cell standby" and "Phone idle" as the main battery consumers (both at nearly 50%), with "Display being a distant third with ~3%.
I was wondering if that could be because of my phone's baseband firmware: it is at a release ending in "-56", which I believe to be quite old. My questions now are:
1.) Is it possible that my battery drain problems are baseband-firmware related?
2.) Is it possible to upgrade the baseband firmware image alone, leaving the rest of the phone's firmware unaltered?
3.) Is there anything I need to take into account before flashing a baseband image of my choice? Do certain baseband firmware images, for example, do not work with certain kernels, or anything like that?
4.) Is "flashtool" the only way to flash a baseband image onto my Smultron?
5.) Which baseband firmware would you recommend, and where can I get it from?
6.) (Slightly OT) Why is all the Xperia Mini/FXP related stuff hosted on crappy one-click-hosters' websites? That's driving me _insane_.
Thanks in advance for your input!
The stock 4.0.2.A.0.42 build's baseband ends with -56, so I believe it's not that old.
If the baseband version is the problem it should cause the problem with the stock ROM, too.
Baseband
1. they could be.
2. yes. you can get the baseband here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1445821
3. there shouldn't be any problems, just make sure you choose the corect baseband, baseband controls the radio(wireless communication hardware) it should be kernel independent, the baseband in the second answer works perfectly with FXP. Bad baseband version could result in low signal strength, or even inability to make calls.
4. it may not be the only tool, but it is the best one currently
5. second answer
6. there are some pretty big files that don't fit in the upload limit on theese forums
Instructions to reduce battery consumption:
drain the battery completely(0%-unable to turn on)
charge it to 100%
go to recovery and find the option "Wipe battery stats"
repeat the first two steps
Your battery should now last much longer

Incorrect, it doesn't help at all.
Xperia's have Li-Ion or Li-Po batteries, which means no memory effect and battery capacity does not change. Also these battery stats are wiped after every full charging anyway, so your action doesn't change anything.
Thanks so much everyone for answering my questions. It's really hard for me to get to the gist of the myriads of threads on these forums and to dig up the information I seek, so that was a very pleasant experience for a change
Is there a specific combination of baseband firmware, kernel image and ROM image that you can recommend that works well with the Smultron line of devices?
On the other hand, I must say I think I'd be really happy with the FreeXperia-fork of CyanogenMod (but would prefer the "vanilla", upstream version of it really, to be honest) if it weren't featsing on my battery so relentlessly. If you could give me a few pointers on how to start debugging the high battery drain, I'd be happy to give my shot at tracking down the cause...
For completeness' sake: Upgrading the baseband did not influence battery consumption at all. I reflashed the stock firmware (using Flashtool - a very handy program) in order to try reproducing the problem on the vanilla setup of the phone, but failed to do so - it lost about 6% of its charge level over the past 8 hours.
I'll try flashing FXP111 (or a later release) some time in the future, and see if the problem persists.

6% in idle in 8 hours isn't bad.
Yeah, I'm well aware of that. What I'd like to have is that kind of battery drain with a CM-based ROM image. I'm not sure what it takes to get there, but I sure hope it's doable - I don't very much like the stock firmware, and it includes so many (to me) absolutely useless applications that cannot be removed.

1. Root you phone (downgrade to 42, root, update over the air to 62)
2. Unlock bootloader
3. Install custom kernel
4. Remove bloatware (can send you a list with what i removed)
5. Enable init.d and install scripts like v6 supercharger KAK and more
6. Use an app like setcpu or antutu to change min cpu speed to lowest possible
and make profiles for cpu speed on various situations eg. when screen is off
cpu speed 122-368
7. Make various tweaks for battery saving and performance
Enjoy a much faster and responsive phone with better battery savings and most important learn a lot in the process and be proud of your custom made phone

Bought a G930A factory unlocked and updated to Oreo, regretting everything

Title says it all, made the mistake of upgrading to Oreo and now stuck with relentless battery drain issues. Tried everything short of reflashing so far and failed. Nearly everything is disabled even after full wipe and reset (hard) and its still pretty bad in terms of battery life. So I signed up here looking for ways to salvage the hardware, perhaps by downgrading back to Nougat if I still can or installing something better and different altogether. I've read folks having luck with the cell standby drain by installing a nougat/oreo mash but couldn't find specific details on how to do this. Also this doesn't seem to fix the android system drain issue but its at least a start. I have basic experience using Kies and Odin, helped a couple relatives with boot looping tabs in the past. Please advise on the best path forward to make use of my new phone.
Have you tried installing 7.0?
What version of Oreo did you install? I myself installed a TMO Ver G930TUVU4CRI2 but running on ATT network. I rooted and debloated and I am blown away how smooth this runs with fantastic battery life.

I feel your pain. I was in the same situation, spending days to find a solution to these battery drain while stuck on this buggy version. And I tried everything...basic battery saving related stuff, disabling pretty much everything on the phone, monitoring everything, even changing the battery.
For now, the only thing that fix the problem for me was using a 3rd party app to force the phone to connect to none LTE network. I don't know where the bug lies: android, samsung or att side? or maybe it is because I'm out of US on another carrier who is using other freq but it is a shame. I don't think there will ever be a fix for that unfortunatly...

EMUI 9.1.0.300 Battery Life......

Any one else's battery life got worse after 9.1.0.300 installation?
My usual 100% shows a life of 35/36 standby hours.....after the new EMUI loaded its dropped to 29 max....
Is it worth a full reload of the phone?
In my experience, after 2 days with Emui 9.1 battery life doesn't appear to be worse, but conversely slightly better.
Normal OTA update, no factory reset.
But these are only my pretty initial feelings, I'll see.
In Chinese Huawei official forum. Some said after every update. Emui will try to optimize system by the way of using. Like Helix Engine's machine learning function. During this process the battery dead quicker than normal. Whole process may take 1-2 days, and then it will go back to normal.
Yes machine learning became faster and more aggressive after the update, but after two days your battery life will stabilize.
Good battery life for me. After full charge : 71h estimated.
Actually I'm at 57%, 4h17 SOT, and remain 35h and 28 mn
My second day with 9.1. I find better battery life on 9.1
My battery also got affected by Emui 9.1, I checked in the battery setting & discover that it was Huawei data management service causing the drain!
What app is causing your drain?

Why say that, obviously it will be better with the faster file partition (EROFS ) which makes less work for the battery
Mines better now... Updated via dload (full wipe)...
Charged to 100% and currently im at 23hours, 14minutes with screen on time 5hours 53mins with 44% left this with lte 60/ wifi 40 and brightness Auto (but in germany its sunny as ****..)
For me same as before

same feelings here !
I feel it seems to drain slightly more than before. EVR-L29.
It's more noticeable now compared to before update. Something to do with the GPU Turbo something?

I have updated before and the battery is now running out much faster.
I will wait 2 days, as I read in this forum, and then I will try to do a phone reset

Will be I able to get more battery life if I root?

So basically the title says all. I'm planning to use this device a little bit longer, and the only problem with it is the battery life - but I love everything else, like the display, the sound, the design. I was a wonder to root before few months but feels like at this point, at least with Samsung you losing more than you will gain with root. Like Samsung Pass, Samsung Health and Security folder. I know there is a way to recreate them but not sure is worth it all the work. Although, I tihnk is worth it to sacrifice those (but I really will miss Samsung pass), to have a better battery life.
So my question is, if I root my device, put some custom rom + some app like Greenify, will be I able to have a better battery life than now? At the moment I make around 3h of sot, which maybe is normal for device +1 year old. But I can't trust it when I'm going out. Always need to carry a power bank with me, just in case...

yes, installing a custom ROM will likely increase your battery life so as that the kernel that the ROM youve chosen is optimized for efficiency. If the ROM you choose is overclocked beast-mode gaming champion settings enabled, then no. Some ROMs are also very stripped down eliminating seldom used apks thereby increasing batt life as well. What model do you have? if its the g965u, you aint rootin it fwiw
Thanks for the response!
Yes, I understand boosting or using some modes for performance can lead to worst battery life. My device is G965F. As for now, I'm planning to wait for the final version of Android 10. Then I guess would wait for developers to update their ROMs and chose the lite one?

Youre most welcome!
If you do that, you might be waiting for a while as Samsung has been recently pushing to make root more and more difficult. If youre dead set on rooting, id do it now and avoid the pitfalls of being on a bootloader version that you cant go back to your old one from and waiting for the devs to figure out the new source code etc etc.

Accidentily upgraded to Android 10

So today was the day. I did not pay attention to this nagging upgrade-popup and i accidentally clicked to upgrade.
I thought this would not be possible, because I got it rooted but apprearently I was wrong.
So here I am: a Xiaomi Mi A3 with Anroid 10 ... AND I HATE IT.
Batterydrain, ugly icons, and so on.
Is there any way to restore the system before the update? (Shouldn't this be possible, because of this A-B side system the phone has?)
If i can't go back: Is there a way to get the old wifi and signal-strenghts icons back?
... and I will figure it out how to root it again I guess.
Perform a factory reset dude, it's not so bad, it only have the same bugs and issues of Android 9. Pretty the same but with dark mode and few more settings.

Factory reset will not downgrade android version. He will have to flash miui 11 followed by stock android 9 rom to retain function of sensors and to keep widevine L1
There isn't a way to downgrade, except what the previous commenter said. Android 10 isn't that bad, you only hear people complaining but there are few dozen people i know personally who use Mi A3 with android 10 and none have problems including me. Just installed Google's eclipse live wallpaper looks sick on the oled screen. Forums became littered with complaints but the people who do enjoy using it don't mention it. Also i guess it's a batch of phones which didn't have the proper settings from the factory which lead to said problems

Correct But there are some Battery Draining Issues which was Fixed in Aug Patch still. the battery drains. i mean if the battery was like Pie none would have complain and the Rom is now nearly Bugless Except Random Reboot faced Twice a Day.

No issues here. Was on Android 10 as soon as it came out. Of course did reset the phone. No battery drains here and no random reboots. Maybe it's something else?
I'm on android 10 for months now. No random reboots here, only problem that the battery is worse than in pie.
I might give the factory reset a chance. maybe it will help to get rid of the battery drain.
what is the most efficient way to restore my apps (+ settings if possible) after the reset?
is titanium backup still a thing?
or is backing up and restoring the apps a bad idea if i want to fix the battery drain?

First of all, you should figure out if you really have a "battery drain". What's your typical screen on/screen off/screen off+aod enabled discharge rate?
