Google Play Store error [DF-DFERH-01] - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

On my new Moto G5 plus, I started getting a [DF-DFERH-01] error when searching on Google Play Store. A quick search showed this was a common problem among different phones. I traced the problem to the latest upgrade of Google Play Store version from 7.0.17 to 8.5.39. The fix is to disable auto-update and uninstall Google Play Store updates back to factory version.
To turn auto-updates on or off, follow these steps:
Open Google Play Store.
Tap the hamburger icon (three horizontal lines) on the top-left.
Tap Settings.
Tap Auto-update apps.
To disable automatic app updates, select Do not auto-update apps.
To uninstall updates for Google Play Store, go to Settings > Apps and notifications > Google Play Store > '...' menu > Uninstall Updates
(instructions may vary slightly between versions)

Even with auto-update off, my Google Play Store app was updated back to verison 8.5.39. I expect to eventually have problems again.

Galaxy Tab 2016 play store missing

This samsung tablet is running android 8.1.
It supports multi user account profile and the "owner" account is the main one.
However, play store is missing in this profile and I have no way of reinstalling it.
It does not appear when go to settings, apps and list all the apps.
When I switch to another user profile, play store shows up, but it would crash if I try to view install apps.
If I go to settings, apps, play store shows up here.
I cannot replace owner profile, I can only delete other user profiles.
So I'm stuck now without play store on the main profile and cannot do updates or install new apps.
Any suggestions or previous experiences?
