Any way to change screen size? (Xiaomi Redmi Note 2) - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
one of my older phones had a little contact with floor, which resulted in me changing the display. But the one we ordered turned out to be faulty in the lower sector, so about one centimeter of screen doesn't respond to touch, same as sensor keys. I was wondering if there's any hack to change the display dimensions - so the faulty bit would remain unactive and everything would move to the higher parts of the screen. I'm not sure if I'm descriptive enough with my not so great English, so here's a little picture to help the imagination.
It's running weekly Global MIUI, but it wouldn't be a problem if I had to install different software. I know Xiaomi has the function to change the display resolution, but it always leaves black borders on the top or on the sides of the screen, so is there any way of modding it maybe?
Thank you very much.

Battery cover to cover camera lens

Hi everyone.
I searched it as much as I could but had no luck. Is there a battery cover that hides the camera lens? To put simply, I need a back cover with no holes at all. I need to have a phone without a camera lens and just hiding it would really help me out. I searched everywhere but found nothing. Even here in the accessories session nothing is mentioned.
If anyone finds omething please reply here, I am desperate!

I have never seen such a thing! why you wanna hide it?!?!?!?
i really don't think you will find such a thing!!!
that is what I am afraid of... I need to have a phone that has no camera with me, and I do not want to leave the HD at the house and wonder around with a simple nokia without the camera. I can pass it as a no camera phone if I could be able to find something like that.
I believe I am not the only one with this problem. There are places that security does not allow camera phones. I found a forum of iPhone users that have exactly the same problem, and I thought that if nobody here in the xda-developers knows or has seen something like this, then probably I have no choice but to leave the phone back
Sorry I have no answer for you. My hunch is that it cannot exist as the use of such cover in places where cameras are prohibited would presume that the security there are also a bunch of idiots to not to be able to see that Touch HD has also a front camera. So it would be a very narrow use possibility to make sense for large scale manufacturing...

You are absolutely right....in areas where it is prohibited to use a camera phone you shouldn't do that. But I think there's one possible solution for that: right here
Sorry for that little joke , but I have been to places where it's not allowed and you should respect that,too. If people realize that you've hidden the cam...oh oh ooooh
I see your point Maniac
I got the same here at work. We're not allowed to use or even have a camera phone with us in the development department.
But thats easily solved: We just deposit it in a lockbox before entering that area. So isn't there a possibility to do that?
Or do you need the phone at work? Then there should be an possibility to get an permission or something like that (I got that at work).

Furthermore you could easily take off the back cover and take your pictures without it. So that won't work.
Mate, since my first nokia wirh pixels camera I have just forgot about covering the lens...sony ericsson and its "k" series has lens cover...but it isn't necessary at all...

[Q] Color calibration...

Not sure if this is the place to post this. Maybe someone can move it. First post. So... you know....
I love my N4 and all. Build quality is superb. Easily as good as the iPhone 4 that I traded it in for. But I'm feeling the itch to go S4, as T-Mo has told me that I can trade it in, even though it's past their 'Buyer's remorse' whatever.
I've been tossing the S4/One thing around and settled on the S4 (please don't attack me for 'settling'; thought went into it).
My only gripe, provided that I can load 'Nexus Edition' onto it (and survey says that it's highly likely), is the ridiculous color gamut. The colors are way off.
My question, long as it may have taken me to get to it, is; is anyone aware of an app that'll allow me to not only change the white balance but also allow me to directly effect the primary (RGB) colors: hue, saturation, luminance (HSL)?
I've seen the apps that have the sliders. And for those curious, I've seen and can tell you that they're only effecting the white point. In my line of work, we measure that white point with a spectrophotometer. It tells us exactly what the wavelength of light is measured to be. White is standardized, in Android world, as well as most of computer world, at 6500(degrees)K(kelvin). It's also called sRGB. There are other standards (and in the case of an OLED display, they may apply; another discussion). But for the web and all applications outside of Photoshop and Davinci Resolve and further upstream, sRBG is where it's at...
So these sliders could allow us to dial in 6500K (aka D65). But past that, we still have these hyper red, green and blue primaries. And that keeps us from having an accurate image on our screens. I'm sort of particular to having an accurate display. So having said what I did about the HSL values of the primary colors, does anyone know if there's an app that allows us to manipulate them (or, dare I say it, allow us to create look-up tables)? It's the one, real shortfall of OLED! At 400+ DPI, I don't consider pen-tile a shortfall.
As an aside, I've read the comments about people using these apps and applying certain values and 'liking them'. That's all well and good. But the people who originally post these values have probably used some type of device to measure them and set them. The FYI is that all displays, coming off the assembly line, will have different characteristics. The values provided by others may serve as a starting point. But it shouldn't be assumed that they're exactly right for your display. What's right for your screen is certainly different than the next guy's. That's where the color measuring tools come in.
All that being said, the app has to allow us to give the proper settings, if that app exists. Past that, once your eyes get used to seeing a truly calibrated display, you'll immediately know it when you see one that isn't (be it on someone else's phone, your own TV, computer display, etc). It'll jump out at you. And you'll say, "What a minute..."
First post. So go easy on me!

[Q] Screen Replacement

Hello All Xda's. For quite some time already I have many questions about how to replace LCD screen for the Xperia Z Ultra..
Had an accident and the screen broke.
Have found many videos and tutorials how to do this, but there are no 1 correct way! So i would like to ask XDA users which steps to take better?
Tutorials i think are normal:
* Tutorial to link
Youtube video feature doesn't work here..
And the most important question would be: Where would be the best prices for Europeans? I live in Riga, Latvia. (That's near Germany, Russia, Sweden).
And where you bought, if you had made this replacement
And one more thing: What would be the appropriate tools for this job and where to get them better?
Best prices:
* https://www.gounlock.com/details.php?itemId=10165
* http://shop.brando.com/Sony-Xperia-Z-Ultra-Replacement-LCD-Display_p10029c0308d059.html
* http://siansmobiles.co.uk/sony-xper...er-touch-original-genuine-complete-black.html
* Ebay
P.s. If you have bad comments, please sit this one out. THANK YOU!
Sorry to make your decision more complex, the Z Ultra used lcd panels from two different sources. Opinions differ on which one is better, if you like the one you have you may want to replace with same. It was discussed here, along with links to other posts regarding same.

Thanks for mentioning this, but can't find about it anywhere. The precise models, price differences e.t.c.
I checked that thread and the guy that told there is 2 different LCD displays, didn't mention any facts.
And couldn't find information about the second display. I don't really how to know what exactly is my screen parameters or model without disassembling!
Is there a way to know it when my screen is broken?
My screen was pretty normal on brightness and contrast. Had no problem with that. In fact it was very bright at times (Day time).
adfurgeson did you do this replacement? How can this youtube link be corrected. Want to put video of tutorial here, but simple link doesn't satisfy me..

Development requests/questions- I want to love my phone again!

I have no idea where we are supposed to post in these forums but from previous phone models I've had (and I've had a fair few!) people have been able to make requests of developers or ask how to do things especially to do with further customisation of their phone.
With each new model of phone coming out there is less and less ability for the end user to change the look of their device. I'm not talking about wallpapers and lock screens, I'm talking about changing fonts, colours and icons.
I really miss one of the first phones where I was able to do this through a theme editor- the Nokia N95, heck I even miss being able to flash my 3230! I remember when g-mask was around and I was able to personalise it even further by getting an outer skin applied complete with a couple of swarovski crystals. At least I could tell it was mine, there was no other like it and the mask lasted until my brother inherited the phone and I upgraded which was a few years.
I also miss the emotional connection I had with my HTC Desire HD, turning the crappiest day around with humour by taking photos of family and friends with the warped/mutated/distorted option (unbeknownst to them), showing it to them and watching their facial expression after they make a double take of the image. Some would laugh, some would cry and others would get very angry.
As much as the focus is on the clean simple look of Lollipop on my Samsung S6 Edge, I don't like the fact they've even taken away the option of having stickers to put next to events in S-Planner. So what if people don't use them, doesn't mean you have to take that option away!
At the moment too it seems as though each variant is receiving its own set of options, making it harder for us as a group to help each other and adding confusion. Has this always been the case with Samsung? Thinking back to the Nokia, they were usually manufactured in one place meaning you could flash pretty much same radio for international version despite people being with different carriers.
I can't install custom recovery, yet some of my Aussie counterparts on here can and it all seems very strange and mysterious! In fact this is the first phone I'm scared I might turn into a brick and that's never happened.
Really hoping more developers take interest in the edge as contrary to what I thought, it's not just an elite s6. We can't even use the same firmware or take the same advice given in their forums as it's not applicable.
I guess what I'm trying to say is I'm not liking that I don't love my phone as much as I have loved some of my other phone's in the distant past..right now it's just a tool and nothing more. I want to love my phone again!

I didn't think you could unless you could get custom recovery? Didn't realise you could flash s6 to me either, from what I've been reading everywhere had said do not do it on the edge.

Indeed Alex-V, unfortunately a phone is only a short term investment now until a new and better one comes along. In my case, each phone with the hope that better happens...only reason I got the edge was for the camera and I was on one of those new phone feeling plans so could keep my s5 but thought s6 edge would be same but improved. Hoping some devs jump on board soon. I'd love to learn how to do all these things myself.

Nexus 5 Second Screen

Recently a stupid idea crossed my mind and I want it to stop, so I decided to ask the experts. The idea is:
Is there any way to write a kernel unit to use the front camera connector as a connector for a modified second screen in nexus 5?
Explaining better. Is it possible to create some kind of adapter for the input of a new Nexus 5 screen to make the connector compatible with the front camera's internal connector, making it a communication channel? And later write a kernel drive to communicate with the screen? This way the nexus would have 2 screens.
A poor's man galaxy fold.
Please don't laugh at me. At least not much, hahaha
I know that if it were possible, the technical difficulties would be immense. I just wanted the opinion of someone with knowledge just to find out if THEORETICALLY would be possible.
And I beg you, no answers like... theoretically anything is possible.
