Redmi Note 4 (Snapdragon) suddenly shut down, won't start at all - Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 Questions & Answers

Hello,
I have a Redmi Note 4 32gb Snapdragon edition I purchased half a year ago. While using it one day (I wanted to play a video on Youtube, don't think it's too relevant), the phone shut down itself suddenly and no longer wanted to start. When I want to power it on, the red notification LED keeps blinking. The phone was around ~65% battery when it stopped. I didn't abuse it or something, just regular usage (Youtube, music, Facebook, some games).
Does anybody know what the issue might be? Everything leads me to think it's the battery, although I don't think the red LED should blink if it's entirely dead.

Did you try charging your phone again?? Assuming you have tried that and still the problem persists then you should approach a Xiaomi service center, looks like it is a hardware issue. There is nothing XDA members can do about a hardware issue.

[Q] ATT Mega overheating issues?

Hello, just wanted to post here and see if anyone else was having similar experiences with their phone.
So I have the ATT Mega, and it has been working fine for a little over a month now from when I first got it, love the phone. Last week or so, I noticed the battery would seem to drain much faster then usual and the back top part of the phone, where the camera lens is, would heat up very badly even when not using it.
I tried killing apps, restarting, nothing seemed to work. I checked the app manager and the battery stats, nothing out of the ordinary but the drain was there and the heat was so bad you really didnt want to hold it.
I contacted ATT and they sent me a replacement which I received last night. I turned it on and was trying it out and within minutes that phone started heating up in the same spot too.
They didnt send me a new battery because oddly enough the battery or that entire area in the back would not get hot at all, only the top half.
I contact them again today and they said they would send me a battery to try but I am scared it will not work again.
I also have a 64gb SD card that I use, but it is the same one I have used in my Note 2 and now this phone with no problem. I am currently using a Note 3 with the same SD and have no issues.
I would love to go back to my Mega though, I actually prefer it to my Note 3 but I am worried about this issue reoccuring or not getting fixed in the first place. Anyone else have anything similar to this with their Mega??
Mike
I have noticed it gets warm, but only when streaming videos. Just browsing the web or listening to music/iheartradio, nothing gets uncomfortable. I just notice the warmth after many minutes of streaming. Not uncomfortable either. Now I do have a case on it, so maybe that's why it doesn't seem as bad.
I have an i9205, but it's basically identical hardware. I've never had any overheating issues of any kind. Recently I've been running the "performance" CPU governor too, which locks the CPU at 1.7ghz constantly and yet I've never been able to make the phone throttle itself back.
Thanks for the responses! I am having ATT ship me a replacement battery to try that, hopefully it arrives today. I just dont understand why it would heat up so badly on both my original phone and their replacement one for me. I would think it has to be the battery or the SD card, but the card has no issues in my Note 3 and it didnt have problems in my original Mega for a month.
Crossing my fingers that it is just the battery so I can go back to using my Mega, I miss it -.-
I noticed my Mega getting warm in the same location last night, but didn't have battery drain. This is a replacement Mega since I bricked my pervious one, but never had that problem with that phone. Today, after being fully charged and not used while at work, I checked my phone and it was 15% and warm. So I turned off WiFi, GPS, and Bluetooth and plugged it in a 1 amp charger, 13% and still warm after a few minutes. Airplane mode, 12% and still warm after a few minutes. Turned the phone off and charging for an hour, phone is cool and 37% (makes since). Phone has been on, charging, and WiFi, GPS, and Bluetooth turned off for 43 minutes, phone is cool and 56%. Now I'm turning WiFi, GPS, and Bluetooth on individually to see if it repeats. I'll keep you posted on my results.
Thanks! I will wait to see your results!
Ive no issue with mine...
Well, sorry to say, it's been almost a month of me playing with this phone trying to duplicate my one time overheating with no luck. I've WiFi streamed for hours, transfered huge files over BT, viewed videos, and anything else I can think of with nothing. Maybe it was a fluke...who knows.

Zero issues here
Its been 2 weeks since I got mine and I noticed the phone getting hot around the camera but it suddenly started being normal with no heating. Will try for few more weeks to see what is the temperature level

My friend kind of had the similar situation... in his case he changed the phone
My Samsung Galaxy 6.3 is getting hot on the ear piece and the back of the phone where the camera lense is. What's the problem? I need to know if I need a new battery or if it's the Motherboard I need to replace and will the phone blow up in my face till I fix this problem?

[Q] HTC One M7 Strange Behaviour...

So I bought my phone from AT&T just as the new M8 was coming out (got a good deal as a result) and ever since that day its been dependable, efficient, and never lagged a single second.
But then the HTC Sense 6 ROM started to act up, opengl issues, and various bugs that drove me insane! So I switched to CM11, (btw no IR or radio or hardware encoding support on it) and all went well until about 2 weeks ago.
Suddenly my phone is sluggish at times, especially on switching applications, and the battery life went from around 10 hours average usage, to 5... Now its down to 3... Not only that but the phone is HOT!
If I even watch a Twitch stream, or YT video, or play a game, or even navigation, camera, chrome, anything with it (including listening to music), the device gets to 43 degrees C. That is with the device out in the air, passively cooling.
If I leave it on a surface, with the back covered up (like in my pocket, or watching a video in my bed) it will go past 50 C, and climb further! At one point in my car while driving, (was charging and navigating, aux was connected so i could get audio navigation through my speakers) I suddenly realized I had past my exit 5 miles back, and had to stop to check the phone...
The phone was not responding to my wake button presses, nor holding it down, it was not outputting directions, and the red LED light was softly lit (not flashing) so immediately I unconnected the charger, and aux cable. The phone still didn't respond, holding power + vol up soft resetting it worked. But what struck me most was how blooming hot it was! It was NOT in direct sunlight, nor was the display on. It practically burned my hands! I had to look up how to soft reset the phone, using my old LG Nitro HD which is my GPS tracker for my car (nifty setup btw).
Now I had an LG Nitro HD which did this sort of thing 24/7 and I could not STAND that phone, since you had to baby the device every second to keep it cool, otherwise you would need to restart.
I have seen numerous threads online about the HTC One getting toasty, and it has before for me, but NEVER THIS HOT! Also this only JUST started happening (its not related to CM11 since I had a backup of HTC's ROM and it did the same thing (in fact it was even slower x.x)
Now here is my question : is this a normal occurrence for smartphones of this age? I think its 1-2 years old... Its past the warranty I suppose (still have the card, and box btw) Is this something that I just have to deal with?
I have used the phone alot while it was charging, and left it on a charger for a long time after it was fully charged... (i thought newer phones had a disconnect for charging)
What bothers me is how suddenly the phone has become stricken with this... problem. It has only been 2 weeks, and battery life is effectively halved, and I am afraid to even USE navigation anymore (unless I hold the phone up infront of an AC vent, which I did all the way home >.< not a fun task since its a manual!)
Thanks in advance!
I had this issue with my M7 for T-Mobile. I would factory reset it and things would be okay for a while until I logged into all of my common apps and realized it would happen again... Some apps make the phone work harder and a lot more on the M7... The way I fixed this was I removed apps I didn't really use and make sure to not be logged into apps that I don't commonly use... The other thing I did was restart after using any video and audio apps... One more thing was I turned on the power saver option with vibrate and cpu unchecked and my phone started acting better...
Edit: if you have insurance through at&t I would go back to complete stock (get rid of tampered flag and red warranty warning included) and let them know it's freezing up. They should send you a replacement and it may help you out...

Yeah actually I just factory resetted the phone, and its absolutely normal now... Furthermore the USB speed is no longer 1mb/s and instead is back up to USB3 speeds!
BTW I did a firmware AND software factory reflash / reset.

UMI Z PRO - DEAD within hours

I opened the package and started the phone, it only had 19% battery left, so I plugged it into the charger. At about 75% I took it off the charger to set it up. During the setup the phone rebooted once randomly.
After this I continued setting up my apps (instagram/whatsapp etc) and when the phone reached 60% the screen just went off. Nothing else happened since, I used the original charger overnight to charge it. But nothing happens. Also no response when I connect it to a computer.
I tried a hard reset with the power off and volume buttons, but nothing happens. The phone is not responding anymore.
It has been on the charger now for several hours. Still no luck.
Just a red LED light flashing on and off. No vibrations, nothing
Doesn't sound too good. I got mine last week and it has randomly rebooted itself twice. It also crashed whilst doing the OTA update to 20170321. Had to use flash tool to blast whole ROM onto it. It's now intermittently not seeing the SIM card. First impressions of this device are not good!
My Device came in with 19% battery charged, at 16% it shut down..
I charged it up to 35% while off, then continued to about 75% before I took it off again. Never been on yet
Umi z pro dead
I received my UMIDIZI z pro on the 5th of April 2017. While charging, I setup my Google account, opened playstore, tried downloading whatsapp, during buffering period, phone just died.
No signs of life whatsoever. No buttons work, no lights, no nothing. It's basically now an umidizi z pro brick (an expensive brick).
I think this phones did not go through any forms of quality control prior to shipping....
Hi, I have the phone one week and no problem at all, I rooted it and have installed xposed even

Can I ask how you rooted? I'd like to get mine rooted to disable/uninstall SmallWindow app that keeps crashing with Google Play Music. And install Adaware, but haven't found a guide to rooting this device yet.

Ofcourse, not every phone of theirs is bad. It's just that they have terrible quality control at the end of the lind. I guess this is why so many peopel recieve defective phones.
My previous phone UMI Max was perfect, just a little mark on the screen, but no biggie. My UMI Super, also perfect, no issues.
But now, I thought I'd get the flagship, Umidigi Z pro -> DEAD

Many thanks. All sorted. Pretty straightforward and similar to previous devices I've had
Getting frustrated. Now it says "SD Card Not Detected" so it's back to the internal memory only. Also it says "Hardware Not Supported" whern trying to run Antutu 3D benchmark and LOADS of games force close on start. Not impressed with this phone at all

It's a new chip so I guess Antutu may not know much about it yet.
Not had any issue with apps closing on start (other than SmallWindow).

In Ali Express you can find the quick charger for Umi Plus. It's the same. Check the Voltage and Amp in the product page picture and compare it with your original.
Umi Z Pro died within 6 weeks. Flagship seems to be a complete shipwreck to my humble opinion and warranty and support from Banggood sucks big time. No recommendation or whatsoever on Banggood and Umidigi. I take my loss and move on, with a good warning to other customers, if it sounds to good to be true, there might be something horribly wrong.
umi zpro wont turn on blinking red light
i have had for 3 months got very hot a few times but last night went to bed it had 175 CHARGE ,WOKE UP IT WAS FLAT AND TURNED OFF.WONT RESPOND TO CHARGING.i just get a slow blinking red light when i plug a cord in.nothing works
Some Tests for the red light
<SUMMARY>
When the red light just on/off slowly, the UMI said it's a "low battery issue".
But in my test, the battery is fully charged and seems the phone can not recognize the battery voltage.
Any ideas? How we can fix it?
<SUMMARY>
Hi,
############ You can skip here #############
I pre-ordered Umi Z on Banggood and get my phone at Feb, 2017.
I had experienced the battery expansion at Apr, 2017, and I asked the repair service to the banggood after detached the battery because I was worried about the explosion.
Then banggood said open the housing means lost the warranty.
So, I bought the new batteries from aliexpress and it works.
############ You can skip here #############
And two month ago, I dropped the phone from the stair, the display had broken, but the phone works.
https://photos.app.goo.gl/vGe5YJTit9aWB65x7
However, one more drop, it died.
So I changed the display. (I saw this video to refer youtu.be/v5YXRrKM2R8 )
But it's not resurrected with red light on/off slowly. The symptom is same as this video. ( https://youtu.be/_ylNyhsT8kk )
When I search it on the google, there are many people that had same experience.
In the UMI Forum, the moderator said it's just a battery issue. The red light means there are no charged battery. ( community.umidigi.com/thread-12002-1-1.html )
So I got a question, "is it really the battery problem?"
First, I tried install a new ROM by the SPFT for ensure that the mainboard works.
I could get the green circle on the SPFT, so it seems the mainboard is fine.
Then I checked the voltage at the mainboard. There are three dots near the battery slot and it seems same as the battery voltage.
So I checked the voltage on the two dots and get 4.17v when the phone connected with the usb cable. ( https://photos.app.goo.gl/PG7nkGNQBASNFhex8 , https://photos.app.goo.gl/x85LowiKt21sghik7 )
4.17v is the charging voltage, so it also seems the mainboard is fine.
At this moment, I thought maybe the battery slot is broken. So I checked the voltage from the protect circuit on the expanded battery. ( https://photos.app.goo.gl/Syb8Xcntk9H4iKuTA , https://photos.app.goo.gl/UV2KtqK4eW2QB9Kv8 )
It also show me 4.17v.
Finally, I checked the battery voltage and it was ALSO 4.17v. ( https://photos.app.goo.gl/3WMqY3PsSWzAbJDv9 )
In conclusion, the "low battery issue" is not true. It seems the mainboard is not recognize the battery voltage properly. It can be both of the hardware or the software issue.
I saw the post that mentioned the secureboot option on the SPFT. ( https://forum.xda-developers.com/le-2/help/bricked-le-s3-x626-flashing-twrp-power-t3715937 )
It's for the mtk 6797 chipset, not 6797X, but maybe it's relate to our problem.
Please let me know if you have any comments or suggestions.
Thanks.
Probably motherboard is fried. I switchen the motherboard and it worked fine after. (I used a Umidigi Z Pro motherboard but tool the camera module from the regular "dead" umi Z)
So the umi Z battery worked afterwards
I don't know how people can buy something from that poor manufacturer, who has no support for anything that they sell.
After UMI-Z ,i definitively decided to boycott that "UMIDIGI" sh...t
Ps: if you will buy chinese smartphone, only xiaomo

Lost mobile data after phone "overheated"

Ok I've got a pretty specific issue that just happened yesterday. I left my mi 8 lite on top of my car by accident, when i came out a few hours later I picked it up and saw an overheating message(which is actually strange because the car was well in the shade and it was a high of 70 yesterday). Anyway, after 15 minutes or so I realized i had no lte, so I powered it off for about an hour thinking that maybe letting it "cool down" even though it was even really hot to the touch. No dice, so I pulled the sim out for a few minutes then put it back in. Tried doing some google searches with specific terms and nothing came up. Anyone ever had anything like this happen? I figure I might get a new sim but I'll ask on forums before going to the store. Phone works 100% the way it did before the incident besides the loss of mobile data(calls text ect work)

Panic...

I need a cell phone and I thoroughly enjoy taking photos with my phone. The Sony Xperia 5 II, and other Experia with Photo Pro, are unique in the world of camera phones. Yesterday, around 2 o'clock, my Xperia 5 II bricked. It wouldn't turn on. Connected to a charger the red LED light didn't come on and the phone didn't charge. I panicked at the thought of no cell phone and started thinking of alternatives. They're all pretty much the same for me until we get to the camera.
I don't do social media, I've never zoomed, I don't play games but Calendar, Keep, Maps, Photos, GMail, and messages are used by me every single day. My phone tells me when your birthday is, when my phone bill is due to be paid, and when it's time to take my pills. First thing in the morning I read the headlines on my phone. Depressing.
All cell phones do all these thing pretty much the same.
But, the cameras are different. I am hooked on the shutter button on my Xperia 5 II and the volume button used to do digital zoom. I love Photo Pro which moves the operation to something other than excellent point-and-shoot. I've had Pixels and Xiaomi and Huawei but I'm hooked on Sony Xperia with Photo Pro.
I don't know why my Sony Xperia 5 II bricked and I don't know why it came back to life. I've been checking frequently to see if an app or an update is draining the battery and that's negative. So, life goes on. I'm hoping the Xperia 5 III comes out soon enough that my sister can bring me one.
What OS version?
Any other odd behavior?
Version 92.0.4515.157 (Official Build) (64-bit)
No other oddities. I've been checking frequently to see if something is draining the battery and so far it's not.
Wait, wrong version.
Android 11
Build Number 58.1.A.5.280
Any chance it could have got infected by a rootkit?
If so factory reset.
Otherwise probably hardware.
The reset will sort it out more than likely if not hardware.
Regardless backup all critical data redundantly to at least 2 hdds now... while you still can.
Okay, my guess now that the panic has passed. My normal routine is to charge my phone to 80% before bed and then to power down. In the morning, I turn on the phone. Perhaps once a month I forget my routine. If I forgot and the phone had power it could have downloaded an update that somehow drained the battery. That would have made the battery drain to zero around mid-morning.
I downloaded and read the manual for the 5 II and it said that if the battery drains to zero, plugging it in will not do anything for around ten minutes. That would explain the LED not lighting up when I plugged in the phone. Then, when it sat idle for the next night the battery percolated a bit and got enough power to show the "Battery Zero" icon when I picked it up and pressed the power button. But, as the manual said, the LED didn't come on for a while.
Whatever it was, everyone is working fine now. I wish all hysterical panics could be solved so easily.
Yay!
Consider disabling auto updates before it does toast your phone...
I will when I read the manual again and find out where that is. I did a search in "settings" for "auto" and got nothing that gives an option of auto-update or manual.

I use Package Disabler. Carrier phones don't give you that options. It can be killed with a adb edit but it's a pain to reenable then if you want it.
Package Disabler lets you easily disable apks on the fly. Useful for troubleshooting too. It will also completely clear apk data leaving no null marks unlike doing it in settings.
Home - Package Disabler
The only NON-root solution that let’s you disable any unwanted packages that come pre-installed / installed with your phone / tablet.
