Always-On Display enabled but not working? - LG V30 Questions & Answers

I've enabled AOD and for whatever reason, it's not working. I've messed with all the settings in the section, and nothing seems to make a difference.
I did go through and disable a lot of the bloatware on the phone (per this post, though I was selective about what I disabled), and it would make sense to me that something I disabled would be the culprit, but I would expect the AOD options to not even show up in Settings if I had disabled that service.
Any ideas?

Yes, ideas from that very thread. You disabled LG Setup Wizard with ADB, didn't you?
A simple search of that thread found this:

Of note, when disabling LG Setup Wizard using the LG Package Disabler, the Always On Display continues to work.
Only after deleting LG Setup Wizard using the adb procedure did I encounter the problem with the non-working AOD!

And no, menu options won't magically disappear just because you cripple stuff that makes them work...
Many things are connected to each other. So, you'll either get lag (while the software tries to find something that's missing) or stuff just won't work.

It sometimes depends on how you froze it. Read the post I quoted.

Thanks, didn't catch that. I can confirm I did disable com.android.LGSetupWizard, but not sure how to go about re-installing it. Any tips? I used pm uninstall -k from a shell to remove it.

So can anyone help me sort out how to get the com.android.LGSetupWizard library reinstalled to fix this?
I used 'pm uninstall -k' to remove it.

Yes, do what I did and hard reset your phone. It'll all restore to stock condition.
BTW for anyone else reading, just "disabling" LG Setup Wizard does not have the same effect as removing using ADB commands -- in other words, Always On Display will continue to work. Once you "uninstall" and reboot, that function ceases to work.

Thanks. I was hoping to avoid that, and looking to find the package installer itself to reinstall, but I guess a reset is the easiest route.

Yeah I had only used it once when I first got the phone. But a co worker said he saw a pop up when he tried to use it so it made me curious. Thought I'd spread the word of what I found.

After it uninstalled itself this morning, I am still left with a Vutalk uninstall app AND when in a call, I STILL SEE VUTALK on the call screen! What kind of half baked nonsense is this?

Google Play should have installed an app that will delete the data.
The service (as stated) is going offline July 1st, so that may be why you can still see things.

It did, but that button in a call still remains as does the non functional Vutalk Uninstall app. Very odd...
Hey, sorry for hijacking- but have any of you been able to get a Vibrate On Call Connection (as opposed to an outgoing call dialed) feature to work? I've tried everything outside of flashing a new ROM & basically the consensus is that it's an issue with LG itself.
I only tried to use Vutalk once as I only my mother had it. The app just uninstalled itself a few minutes ago so I searched and found this thread.
If you're rooted you can get rid of the remnants with Xposed (not sure which module it is, though)
Edit: Found it, it's G2 TweaksBox => Calls Tweaks
lg vutalk went of lg server is there any way to reactivate this personally??
Hey all,
I'm actually really upset that Lg took away VUTALK.. it really ruined my day when I found out perhaps it was one of reasons I decided to go with Lg in the first place.. is there anyone that can tell me if there's anyway around this.. I really want to make this feature work again and cannot understand Why everyone felt it was so unbeneficial.. it was very useful to me.. please give me any advice I'm not exactly tech savvy when it comes to this stuff.. but I was thinking if servers down then there's no way for me to go around it?
I not use it never...anyway, i uninstalled VuTalk

DPI System Crash Loop

I switched my DPI and like an idiot I didn't make a backup in titanium backup like I should have. I don't have ADB set up but USB debugging is ON and I have LGUP and LG Bridge installed . What should I do to even reflash the phone with stock?
I ended up having to re-root it with the TOT in upgrade mode, which over-wrote everything. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a way to flash single files, and I could never figure out how to remount /system as RW, to edit build.prop by hand and push a fixed copy
Anyone found a way to safely edit the DPI yet?

There's a T-Mobile thread about this. For starters you can edit freely but unfortunately systemui and the second screen (can't recall app name) will have to remain stock. There is an app that does this for you, unfortunately can't recall the name either but take a look in other V10 sections.
I know about Xposed's "per app hacking" app, but Xposed still isn't working with the VZW V10, last I knew?

Found a working res/dpi, without using Xposed's 'per app hacking'. (I thought Xposed wouldn't run on this!)
'Resolution changer' from the market, set to [email protected]; works fantastic with everything!
With one tiny problem... the touchscreen is much less responsive, and the right edge becomes almost nonresponsive totally unless I do a sort of slide-tap when I tap something.
Anyone know how to resize the digitizer grid and/or edit the sensltivity? :/

MMS not downloaded, 'tap to retry', T-Mo V30

I keep getting an error whenever someone sends me a picture message, saying the message was not downloaded, tap to retry. Tapping to retry does nothing, and then I'll get the same error notification several times a day, until I just go and delete the failed picture download. In many or all cases tho, the picture actually does download. I'm on T-Mobile but haven't had this error for years on several different phones..... just the Tmo V30. Anyone else?
I'm getting the same thing on my T-Mobile V30+ is super annoying. I have no idea what is causing it.

I had disabled Android Pay for some reason, so i went ahead and re-enabled it. I had only used the settings within the phone to do that tho. Do you think it could be something like that?

No, disabling Android Pay by using settings in the phone wouldn't cause that issue with texts.
The only reason I'm asking if because a few times when people have complained about stuff not working -- like Always On Display and other things -- turns out they used package disabler or ADB (using the same vague package disabler descriptions) to disable/remove what they thought was "bloatware" but was really stuff they wanted to work.
Or caused severe lag, because the phone apparently looks for what's missing before giving up. It's ironic people are slowing their own phones down...
1) a lot of things are interconnected.
2) true bloatware isn't labelled "this is useless", with important stuff labeled "this is important".
Right now there's a case where a guy and his wife both have T-Mobile LG V30, on T-Mobile with the same plan, same exact firmware. But one has VoLTE grayed out while the other doesn't, and one dialer doesn't show voicemail icon while the other does. He used the package disabler to disable some services and apps, but we don't know why they're different if he disabled the same things? He also doesn't know what to re-enable to get everything back.
But it sounds like that's not the reason in your case.

Yes, gotcha. I've kinda been there, done that haha. In the past. These days I don't do much to my phone, just let it be and work like normal. Well, hopefully it works anyway
Same issue on T-Mobile v30+.... sometimes MMS/photos fail and offers "retry" only to fail again.... doesn't happen all the time....usually on 5 or more mb images.
What's strange is that it seems like I sometimes get the picture AND a failed message. Like if somebody sends me two pictures, I'll get the two pictures and two failed messages. So I'll I wonder if maybe they sent me four pictures, but when I ask they tell me they sent me two. Weird

Same thing here
Hey all. I have had the same issue from the first week I got both my V30's and I am on T-Mobile as well. I went to the store and they tried every troubleshooting step they could and tried every combination of settings. I am using the stock messaging app and even with a third party google messages app, it still happens so I think it's a T-Mobile issue. They had tech support call me which was not very helpful because they tried doing the same steps the store did and I should mention I worked for Verizon Tech for ten years so I kind of know my way around a phone. I went and completed a master reset and restored nothing at all, and it still happened. I changed the sim like T-Mobile said and still the same. I connected my phone to my PC and used LG software upgrade and repair tool after the new software was available and still the same. Went back to the store and they are going to send me a warranty replacement even though it is happening on both my phones. T-Mobile is not acknowledging this issue and if this warranty replacement has the same problem, I will take it to the next step and report it to the BBB.
Any updates? Having same issues. Changed sms to mms and vice versa but still no change. Picture messages fail to download regardless of size even at 900 kb. People say they get my messages 5-10 minutes after I send to them. My group messages seem to be on a huge delay in receiving and sending.

'Ok Google' voice phone unlocking doesn't work.

Hi,
As you may have known, ok Google issue has been solved in recent miui 10 stable update. Now it offers to unlock the device using voice match even when the display is turned off.
Now even I say ok Google when the screen is turned off, it does wake the device but it's still locked and it shows me pattern unlock.
How to unlock the device so that I can pass an actual command to Google assistant?
Thanks
My phone just updated to MIUI Global 10.0 (10.0.4.0 OEJMIFH) and it was fixed.
Now I can say 'Ok Goolge' and it opens assistant.
Phone unlocking by voice command is disabled by miui and afaik even Google is removing this feature from assistant, security reasons probably

Yes, I did that. It does wake up the device but doesn't unlock it.
Edit: Sorry. I wasn't facing the same issue. I was facing the issue where the Google Assistant wasn't working properly, and it would show me the error "unable to open microphone".
I found the solution on the MIUI forums. Here's what I did...
You have to go to the Google app in "Installed Apps" and clear the cache and the data and reboot, and it'll start working fine.
It was a little tricky to find the Google app as it wouldn't show in the Installed Apps. You have to click on the 3 dots on the upper right side corner and select "Show all apps" and then it'll show up. After that, you just clear the cache and the data and reboot phone, and it'll start working properly
Nevertheless, I tried your solution and it didn't work either way.

Don't get your hopes high about this feature's implementation on OEMs. Google were already silently phasing-out this feature and the OEMs will soon to follow.

It sort of works for me (Stable 10.0.6.0). However, following those instructions it only wakes the phone, but doesn't unlock. But - after getting to that point, I went into the Google assistant, settings, voice, voice match and it let me select the slider - gave me a warning about being less secure, and then it woke up AND unlocked via voice.
Unfortunately, it then failed to do it the next time I tried it and asked for my pattern/face. Not sure if it requires log in sometimes and not others, or if the first time was just luck!
At one point it would wake up and let me ask a question, but only read or show me the answer when I unlocked, but now it won't even do that, so basically it's completely inconsistent! hurrah!
Clearly some sort of security issue - whether it's Xiaomi or Google's fault is up for debate, but if Google are removing it from their flagship then I wouldn't be surprised if it never works properly on anything else.
If they would only get Trusted Places working properly (Google that is) or even allow trusted Wifi (I know the security implications but I'm prepared to accept them!) then it would probably not be necessary.
I could keep it unlocked with my watch, but then I find that (despite pocket mode) my phone regularly does random things while in my pocket!
I had similar issues with my Mate 10 Pro, that I've just changed from, so it's not solely Xiaomi's fault, but is it really too much to ask to expect Android features that are offered to actually work out of the box?!

The irony is that I've just switched from a Huawei Mate 10 Pro (Various reasons, but flaky bluetooth top of the list) and that did do it after the last update. That's because they have their own voice recognition baked in to the Kirin chipset though I think, so it's not using just Google's voice match - and even that took a lot of fiddling to get working. No idea how secure it was, but it was handy for finding the phone by asking it where it was! I refuse to talk to my phone in public anyway, so it's something I can live without I think

Question Hello I need some help with ADB

Hello,
I like to see myself as a very advanced user of ADB.
I usualy debloat my devices very extreme. 99% of the time it goes without issues. I have had some issues but ive managed to resolve them by myself. However now im running into a problem and I really dont wanna do a factory reset so I turn to the famous XDA forum.
On my S23 Ultra when i change the wallpaper of my phone the background works but lockscreen is unable to change. The background and style app keeps crashing when I do that.
I reinstalled com.samsung.android.app.dressroom but this did not resolve the issue.
I reinstalled com.android.wallpaperbackup but this also did not resolve my issue.
I have Wallpapercropper and wallpaper.res also installed.
I feel like im missing something, maybe something i deleted that has a service thats directly connected to this. But im clueless to which one that would be. Can anyone maybe post a list of all services needed for the dressroom app to function properly?
This is exactly why I use PackageDisabler Cloud version, so I can disable and reenable on the fly with out a PC. I've been using adb since the TMobile G1 too but it has it's limitations.
I have used that in the past but i prefer adb through command prompt. But this still does not help the issue at hand. Anyone have a solution?
I use ADB app control. Yes you need a computer but it shows you everything you have disabled and you can enable with a click. I would just enable everything and start there. Package disabler sucked in the past getting charger over and over again, half the time you had to factory reset to get it off your device. Maybe it changed. But that developer will never get anymore of my money
3 options:
1.) Enable all the apps you have disabled, one by one until the issue is fixed
2.) adb logcat to see why the app crashes
3.) factory reset
