Camera problem - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello
I had my phone in a drawer for over a year because the lcd shattered and a few months ago I ordered a 'new' screen and replaced it.
The first time I opened the phone I broke the front camera flex cable so I ordered a new one also.
The reason I'm giving a little context is to give you some insight to what could be the problem.
After replacing the front camera, it wont work. I tried installing the original stock rom, updating firmware via mmi codes and cleaning the connections.
What happens is, when I open the camera app (tried multiple ones of course), the back camera behaves very strangely and when I switch to the front camera, the phone either reboots or the app freezes.
This behaviour is green and purple lines through the image when opening, it kind of pulsates and if I get it closer to something bright it takes a few secons getting to a normal clear picture.
This is a recording I've made with the back camera: streamable.com/ilxln
Would apprecciate any info on this.
Thanks

[SOLVED] Warning Camera Failed

Recently started getting this warning that prevents me from using my camera app.
I'm running the captivate's stock camera app on the leaked vibrant T959UVJI2 firmware. I wasn't having any issues until a few days ago, so I'm not exactly sure what caused the problem.
Thanks in advance.
UPDATE:
I checked to see if another app was the culprit and ended active services one by one and found out that tasker was causing the problem.
Turns out it was one of my profiles. Deleted it, everything is fine now.
Thanks for the help
Did you try to flash the stock camera back?
I did flash it back but it didn't fix the problem.
did you tried to update the camera firmware from service menu ?
I just got my captivate yesterday and I've been having the same problem. Sometimes the camera works, sometimes it doesn't. It will occasionally just show a blank green screen. I checked my running services and all I have running while camera is up is omadrmconfig service,htc_ime mod snsservice, and backservice. If I can't find a solution I might just unroot and factory reset.

I'm certain its an application interfering with it.
I've read about other people having these issues with Fring and Goggles.
Try uninstalling applications that use the camera to start and reboot your phone.
If that doesn't work perhaps doing a factory reset isn't a bad idea.
The root shouldn't be an issue.
Good luck
Tried un-rooting and then factory resetting and even tried installing the camera people are using for the vibrant. Not really sure what to do It feels like I'm playing camera roulette with this phone because it works about 5% of the time. Luckily the guy I bought it from has the warranty papers...probably sold it to me knowing it was faulty
Solved?
I just recently started having problems with my camera. Same thing that is described here. You say it was one of your profiles. Profile for what exactly? I have reset it back to factory. Camera still didn't work. I have updated camera firmware. Still nothing.
solved!
I had this particular issue but finaly made it work and a different way , I clear the cache video application then reboot and thats it and done
My phone fails constantly as well, almost 100% of the time. However, there is a trick that gets the phone working again, albeit temporarily:
- Press hard on the lens of the camera with your thumb, in a smudging motion until the screen, in my case, turns from black to actual picture. Try to snap a pic. If this fails, keep pressing on the lens and try again. Eventually the camera fail message goes away. Most of the time this trick will work but sometimes it'll never work either.
Note that if your speaker fails, pressing it hard will make it work as well. Something is screwy with the casing or build of these phones, signs of a cheap product. This will be my last samsung product to say the least.

Camera Problems...

So i was in third period today at school and i needed to take a picture of some notes from a school textbook and when i opened the camera application all i got was a ton of green horizontal lines... The front camera works fine, its just the rear camera. I've rebooted about three times already and nothing happened. Any suggestions? Has this happened to you?

That's weird, never had that happen before. Are you on the latest camera firmware? What's the one you got?
I had this issue with one of my primes. When I called tech support regarding this problem they instructed me to do a factory reset and a reset (pressing the reset button located under the micro sd card 3 times) Nothing helped so they wanted me to RMA it. I ended up doing an exchange since I was still in my return window. It could be a result of a bad camera firmware upgrade or just a faulty camera. You can also try clearing the camera cache under settings/applications. Sorry I can't be more help, I never got to the bottom of the issue myself.

[Q] Both cameras went off!

I replaced my crashed lcd screen and digitizer with new ones from etradesupply.com. After I installed them serious problems started to appear. Firstly the mic went off. While the front camera was working, the rear started showing horrizontal green lines. Sometimes if I was pressing real hard at the centre of the screen the rear cameras were working fine. After a while the rear cameras went off. Initially when I was using the cams the cell was rebooting. I thought it was a rear cameras problem. So I ordered new ones. Meanwhile the rebooting situation stopped. Anytime I was try to use the cams, a black screen for a moment and the back to the previous screen. Additionally the front camera started doing the same thing. The new cams arrived, I changed them but same old situation. I 'm on stock RUU. Any help because I don't have a F$#%^& clue anymore...

Sony Xperia Z2, runs hot, battery drain, rear Camera and flash not working.

Good day. Im new here and really need advice. I have the Sony Xperia z2, the screen cracked and the touch input stopped working, so I used the phone with a computer mouse and all was working fine except the cracked screen. Send it in for repairs, now has a new screen but now the phone's battery is discharging 1% every minute, camera and flashlight is not working and it's really hot on the back of the phone. Updated the phone software to Android marshmallow, results are still the same. I then opened the phone myself (the company did not waterproof it again), I then unplugged the camera and closed the phone, now the battery is operating normally again and it's not running that hot anymore. Plugging the camera back in results in steap battery drain, running hot and error: "camera stopped working" when opening any camera app or doing camera diagnostic. The Flashlight is also not working. Should I order a new camera unit and how does the Flashlight work or can it be fixed/replaced? I dont really want to spend lots of cash on this phone by handing it in to the repair center again, im a student and it already cost me R3700/250$ just for screen repairs.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
$250 for a screen repair?! You could have just bought a second user phone for less. Camera modules are cheap enough to buy but that may not be the problem. It's a gamble in my opinion.
Hello guys,
it seems I have a pretty similar issue.
My Z2 apparently got 2 new issues - the back camera stopped working (front is fine) and I cannot switch flashlight off once switched it on via menu.
Do you have any idea what could be the root cause for these probably related issues?
Already flashed entirely new firmware but that didn't help.
Thank you in advance.
One more observation here - just tried to disconnect camera module at all from the main board and the Torch became unavailable.
So it seems the torch is controlled by rear camera module.
Think to replace the camera module, I guess this should help.

Soft Skin effect wont go away

Hi, iv'e been a reader on Xda for some time but since i haven't seen any solved forum about this, i had to do it.
The problem is that in the front camera of my Xperoa X, f5121, Android 7.1.1 (I have it from a long time ago, but i just started using the front camera), no matter how i change the settings, the soft skin effect still on even if i turn it off. I compared it with my brother's Xperoa M5 and that one i jjust normal.
To be precise, the problem is in the process of taking the photo, because when the camera is showing the image it looks just fine, but after it takes it, the final picture on the album has the soft skin on it.
Ps: My phone is not rooted or anything, but if there's any non-dangerous root, i'd like to know
Thanks
