I've read a lot about Ext2,3 and 4 partitions, Swap, Fat32 primaries, etc.
I don't understand any of it and I can't seem to find any explanations.
Right now I'm running Vipermod's ROM but I was going to flash Synergy until I saw that it seems to require partitions to be set up in some particular way?
Any help would be appreciated.
you can do fine with the way your card is set up now, no extra partitions required.
If you have a fast card, you can partition it to have what most call SD-EXT. my understanding is that its used to store applications automatically with A2SD ( apps to SD ) you can also move swap and dalvik-cache to the SD card, but only if its fast enough. Class 4 is recomended. but most say you shouldnt waste it on a class 10 since the evo doesnt use that much speed.
EXT 4 is supposed to the format for sd-ext or the dalvik. fat and fat 32 are for everything else, so windows can read the SD card.
ext 2 and 3 are the previous formats, but ext 4 is faster, but not always supported. ext 3 is the most common
there are option for ext 256,512,1024,2048mb which shoud i choose for parttion ?
choose the size that you want to use as ext partition ... (But remember your pc doesn't detect the partition formatted as ext so it is better to use half/less as ext and remaing as sdcard so you can backup roms/apps as well as install zip files later when needed.. )
It also depends on how much memory you will be able to use as internal memory..
i was browsing this forum and many members were talking about ext 4 partion ?
i can already move apps to sd card with my cyno ace/apptosd/root.so why need ext 4 or ext 3 partion plz tell me the details about it ?
I want to create a ext partition on my SD card using GParted. But when I do this GParted will not finish the operation. I wait one or two hours and nothing happens. When I create a FAT32 partition it's no problem. With FAT32 everthing works(read, write). With CWM I also create a ext partition but CWM only create a FAT32 partition and instead of a ext partition there is a non-partitioned area. Did my Legend distroy the SD card? I don't understand it because I can use a FAT32 partition. Need help
Thanks for help and sorry for my bad english!

Use cwm instead to do the partitioning. But be sure to backup ALL contents of your sdcard as it will be completely wiped/formated.

Do you mean partitioning with cwm? I did this but it don't worked. Now I have an other trouble, too. I can't create a 2nd partition on my sd card :crying: I need this partition for my apps. Is there any way to "repair" my sd card or I have to buy a new one?

Since rooting my Legend, I have used up about 4 SD cards. They will work in other devices (DSi, other phones), but not in my Legend. My Legend just refuses to recognize them. So, to spare yourself a lot of hassle, you can try once more to, in recovery mode, format the card by using CWM (first make a backup of your card of course), then partition (create an EXT partition) also by using CWM.
If things do not work out, by a new SD card. That is what I did.
Edit: I just remembered: if your card has an ext partition and you try to create another ext partition, you will end up with two ext partitions. And my Legend wasn't too happy with that, after each reboot all my widgets were gone...
Hi
I tried to create 2nd partition as ext4 on internal SDcard, 3 GB but my device keep saying that the SDcard is broken and tell me to format it. when i format it, it format the whole SDcard as FAT32.
what i did is delete the whole partition, apply it, create 2nd partition as ext4 and give to 3 GB and create 1st partition as FAT32 and give it 10 GB. my tablet does not have custom recovery.
