Google Play store looks different from phone - Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 Questions & Answers

Heya! I noticed my google play store looks a bit different on my Tab S3 then on my Nexus 6p.
They both have the same version of the play store, Play Store version: 8.9.24-all
These are screenshots from both:
Nexus 6P: https://i.imgur.com/ComZ6ln.jpg
Tab S3: https://i.imgur.com/kS4Y3oa.png
Notice how the S3 doesn't have the downloads/ratings (though seems to have the section for it) and the top section looks different and is missing the wishlist button? (though wishlist is in the 3 dot menu in the upper right when clicked).
Everything else outside of an apps individual info page looks Exactly the same.
And it also only seems to be different for apps and games. Movies, music and books all look like the Nexus picture.
I'm enrolled in the Google Play Services Beta, which I would immediately attribute to this if the phone which is also enrolled had the same change. Do they do partial test rollouts to random users/devices like they do with chrome dev?
Anyone else able to corroborate this?

Well, I don't know. But my guess would be the app detects what hardware it is running on and adjusts the UI. Why the Play store would need to do this is beyond my comprehension. It certainly would make sense for games. Maybe the developers working on the Play store are trying things out to see how they work out?

Google replaces Market with Google Play

yup! here is text from the Verge
"Google is taking a big new step in bringing all of its content arms under one roof — and that new entity is called Google Play. Starting today, Google will begin a rebranding of the Android Market, Google Music, Google Books, and its video offerings. Until now, all of those content hubs had more or less resided under the banner of the Android Market, and it seems like the company is interested in making users understand those disparate pockets of content as a unified whole. A company spokesman called Play "an evolution of Android Market."
Google Play (called the Google Play Store in some instances) will become the single destination for all of the company's buyable content. Accordingly, the standard Android books, music, and video apps will become Google Play Books, Google Play Music, and Google Play Movies. But it's not just about devices. Google Play is meant to bring together the company's content offerings in both mobile and browser experiences.
Android devices running version 2.2 or later will have their Market app automatically updated "over the coming days," while the Google Play Store moniker will make its way into the Google sandbar, much like the Google+ service. The Android Market name will be retired, though you won't miss it much since the Google Play Store looks nearly identical."

I don't care for the name at all...but oh well...what can ya do?
The almighty Google shall do as it pleases lol

Apps for 49 cents!
I can't look at the apps again cause of work, but it was posted in another thread on XDA.
Almost positive the APK is out there somewhere, now to find it...
Not that I like it too much but I want to see the difference. (Backed up Market 3.4.4)
It also shows 25 cent app of the day - Where's my water
I don't see how renaming "Market" as "Play" will suddenly cause people to start buying their music and books from Google!

It's a rebranding. Currently people associate the Market strictly with their Android devices. With Play, it now becomes a full media enhancement. It's what iTunes recently did with the cloud, only google decided to market this differently.
i read on The Verge that as of today it will be updating devices 2.2+ to Google Play.
ive been looking EVERYWHERE for the apk. it will pop up in time
Nice! Thanks for the link, got cosmos, shadowfinger and world of goo!

Here is a link to the new apk for the google music play at least. I don't see anything different in it though.
looks like the Google Music app has been renamed already, "Google Play Music".

Sounds like a "Google, Play Music"
When I read it, seems like I am talking to it...
Market just auto updated to google play on my galaxy nexus.
Google Play is just a Rebranding of Android Market
I got 3 app updates (Music, Books, & Movies) on my AT&T Galaxy S II today. Check out this page that talks about how "Google Play" is just a rebranding of the Android Market, yet has so many possibilities for what will come next... http://www.orangeandjuicy.com/google-play-is-the-rebranded-android-market/
Could've come up with a better name, but whatever. The android market website already defaults to the new rebrand; no auto updates on my device yet.
Can't wait for Gmail Play, Maps Play, Google Voice Play, Gtalk Play, Goole Search Play, and Google + Play to drop! Gonna be epic.....
Ugh, Google Music got updated .... and the new icon is hideous.

Was G-tunes and G-tunes App store already taken?

Google Play Store Requests?

Is there any place that you can make requests to google for updating their google play store app? I like the new my apps area and how it has all your apps that you have ever downloaded under that all that is a nice touch. However, I would really like there to be a purchased tab as well because I dont have all the apps that I purchased currently on my phone for one reason or another and would like it so there was an easily accessible tab to reach those purchased items. I think thats a reasonable idea as the market had purchased area at the buttom under the installed section. Unless I am missing it and its there but i dont see it?

Flipboard

Well here's something bizarre.
On my Wildfire, and on Google Play it says that Flipboard isn't compatable with the device, yet when I logged onto the Amazon App Store (which as far as I know, only shows apps compatable with the device) it had Flipboard listed!
Obviously downloaded it, and it works perfectly fine on my Wildfire, which makes me wonder why it's supposedly not compatable when it in facts runs fine.
I've tried Instagram before, and I could see why that didn't work, therefore not compatable, but Flipboard works fine. So if you can go on the Amazon App store + get the APK, then do it, it's a pretty good app
Has anyone else found apps for the Wildfire that the Play Store says is not compatable with the device, but does in fact work/run fine?

there could be several reasons for the incompability message showing up: it could be region related, if you have a branded phone or a simlock it could be carrier related and last but not least Amazon doesn't have anything to do with Google. So if Google sets different standards for compability (i.e. resolution, performance etc.) Amazon might differ.
I've also tried Instagram - one of the very few popular services that exclude so called legacy devices almost completely
However free/ad supported apps could be tried out if working or not - so I sometimes hate it to be ruled out by Google (or the dev). Paid apps of course shouldn't let you try out because you could sue the dev for selling stuff that won't work on your device.
And yes I know at least one app which works fine on my Willy although the play store says "incompatible": https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.flightradar24free
But: it only works if you drop realtime movement of the planes (and for good performance you should make the visible region not too big, satellite view works but with maps is smoother of course...) - so I'd guess if the dev would make this compatible for GPU-less devices he would earn thousands of complaints that the app doesn't work at all
And no, I won't post any links how to get the apk (forbidden by forum rules anyway, giyf in case)
I think the market is somewhat bugged a little too, week before last i couldn't download a few apps which i have previously used on my s2. I hadn't changed any dpi settings or anything like that so i just put it down to the fact i'm running miui. Updated my miui Rom on the Friday with no wipes and all of a sudden my apps work again.

[Q] Google Keyboard hidden in Play Store

How come, that Google Keyboard is hidden in Google Play from me?
I have three devices, a Nexus 5, a Nexus 7, and an older HTC One S with CM11. All of these are using Google Keyboard.
But searching for Google Keyboard in Play Store nothing shows up. Therefore updates for the keyboard is not showing up either.
I have a work around for this though. Start up an web browser on the phone, search Google for Google Keybard, click the first result, and Play Store starts up showing Google Keyboard - it's there. And if any updates are available, I can install these too without problems.
But why do I have to go through a web browser to access (and update) Google Keyboard on my devices? Why doesn't the Google Keyboard show up when searching in Play Store?
I'm living in Denmark, is this the issue due to regional restrictions? I know of other of my friends, who I have showed the trick of going through the web to update the Keyboard.
Did you figure out how to fix the issue? I have exactly the same problem and its so annoying Live in Ukraine, so it seems region does not matter.
You can try downloading from APK Mirror, it works well.

Nope, still same issue, auric88.
Sure, BingoseasonsCP, you can also find it via Google search, as I state in the first post, but you don't get automatic updates..

Question Google Android Suck period

I'm really pissed, that with the latest play store, I have absolutely no way of looking at previous apps I have used for yrs.. I have looked all over the place, and can not find any sign of apps I used and have payed for, that still work... I do have some back up, but the idea of them basically telling me what I can and can not install from previous yrs is pure bulls**t. The idea of getting a iphone soon is getting better and better with each passing day.
What Google play store version are you on?
Whatever the newest one is....29.5.14-21
Is it the new Material You design? What country are you from?
In UK law, they are required to give you access to any digital content you have purchased so I doubt they would get rid of the library when they require it for compliance.

In play store press your profile picture next to the search bar.
Press library
My purchased apps appear in there, from years back. If yours don’t, are you sure you haven’t accidentally used a different Google account to previous phones?
If you're logged in in a browser with your Google account, you can see what you have paid for by simply going to
Sign in - Google Accounts
play.google.com
and instantly see your purchases. Looking at my (long) list, I have no idea whether it also holds apps that are no longer available.
And here appears to be the list of all apps you ever installed:
Sign in - Google Accounts
play.google.com
(XDA makes weird titles for the links, but you can look at the URL and see whether you feel they are legit (they are))
"The idea of getting a iphone soon is getting better and better with each passing day."
In the move from 32 bit to 64 bit about half of my purchased iOS apps went unusable on newer devices, and games like Monkey Island have just vanished from the iOS app store without any notice, or any evidence that you ever purchased it, so also without any possiblity for a refund. So I don't think Apple does this better than Google....

The issue with my missing purchase was resolved.. I'm not sure what the issue was.. After a couple of hrs, and my phone finishing up updates after Samsung installing my new mainboard all seem to appear.. I'm not crazy, but even when logged into my pc, none of my apps would appear.. I have been using the same google account for yrs.. I only have one. I do know this.. Some of my apps that are back, were not available to me 6 months ago.. Maybe this has happened to others, and complaints were sent to google.. And with newer updates these issue were resolved..
