Hi,
I m new here.
First of all i have to say i m very happy with my Mate 10 Pro. Have it for 3 months now, and i love it.
Just wondering about the chrome browser..
I use it a lot. But my mate 10 pro says it uses about 50 % of my battery. Is this normal? There is one thing i observed: even when i close all the apps that are running in the background, my phone says chrome is still active.
Why is chome still active when not using it and after i closed all the apps? The only way to stop it is to go to battery settings and close it manually there (i do it where i can see the % that chrome uses, then i click on it).
I still manage to gett around 6.5 to 8 hours SOT, sometimes more. It is awesome compared to my s7 edge.
But would be nice to make it last even longer
Thanks for your help
If you mostly use chrome seems logic that it will be marked as the most power hungry app.
The "close all apps" function won't close some processes, if you want the chrome process to be stopped, you should terminate the app....
I really don't even waste my time closing apps, if an app isn't behaving as it should on the background, I just uninstall it.
But that said, I always have found chrome to be less efficient in Android. I'm trying edge, it's working okay.
I disabled Chrome personnaly.
Drains too much..
You can try Samsung browser, via, x browser or lighting browser.. Very good browser too.
Cheers

first of all, i would like to apologize if this 'review' is in the wrong section, but i just wanted to put in my 2cents on this amazing app!
ive heard of palringo over a couple forums but i never gave it a try, untill now, and i must say, this app replaces atleast 3 of my old apps.
i had the facebook instant messanger (FIM), msn live messenger, and aols aim app on my phone.
i thought that FIM was awesome because i was finally able to chat with my facebook friends through my phone, but besides the chat function, this app didnt do anything for a 'facebook app'. viewing your homepage on FIM is the same as viewing it on mobile view on opera or IE.
the aol aim app looked really cool at first, but i realized how much it lagged and ran really slow. i fouund i liked the way it looked more than its messanging capabilities.
msn messanger was a cool app, but i rarely get on msn live so it just sat there and ate up storage space, not only that but installing the messanger also installs windows live, which i never use.
now, palringo, is a pretty light app that looks great, runs great, and allows you to get on any instant messenging service simutaniously! i was pleasently surprised at how fast it ran and how it only added 1% to my RAM usage.
if you wanna give it a try, just go to www.palringo.com and download it for free!
i hope this review helps others like me who have never tried palringo, but use their phone for instant messaging. if you want a free high performance IM APP, this is the one!!!!
thanks for reading
ps: if you do have palringo and wanna add me on the palringo messanger, my email address is [email protected]
i agree with u that this app rocks, but u have to be fair and tell that, if you leave it on your phone in the background running it will eat the battery in few hours...if im on extended sesion on palringo, max i can get from battery is 5-6 hours, normaly 2 days with lots of web browsing.

I have only had the prime for about a month now. I have been using firefox the entire time. Installed it day one. I got fed up with how slowly it was rendering pages and finishing page loads on the prime. ESPECIALLY this site. Unreal. The loading circle just spun forever.
Tonight I put chrome on and realized what an idiot I had been choosing firefox in the first place. A google OS should run a google browser
Page loads complete quickly, and the browser is performing so much better than FF I just can't believe it. I was thinking of giving up on tablets for browsing due to the way FF was performing.
If you havent run chrome on here, and yes maybe I am the last to think of this, but please do try it.

sadly I think they both suck on prime. Default browser works best, is compatible with sideloaded flash on jb and if you scroll to the bottom of xda you can choose the xda 2010 option that works much better.
Chrome lags like crazy on my prime with JB. It performed better on ICS. Stock/Dolphin are by far the smoothest for me.
iOn my experience Dolphin Browser Beta Works really well and it is very smooth. I tried Firefox but feels slow...

Talking about Firefox there's AuroraX from the same makers just that this has faster rendering times but all in all I'd go ahead and say that no matter what rom you're on for the Prime, the stock browser would still be the optimal performer
Boat browser all the way
Boat Browser is by far the best. Give it a try
Scrolling on FF is just awful and it can be pretty laggy at times but I put up with it as the only browser I have on here mainly because of Ad-block Plus, syncing with my desktop, ability to restore tabs from last time and it handles flash pretty well. The pros outweigh the cons for me and since there is no perfect browser on Android this is what I'm going with.
The stock one just looks like rebranded chrome. Seriously, same options, same settings just a different skin.

I second that... Tried about every browser nothing comes close to the stock browser. Chrome is cool but it lacks features. Its just not finished in my eyes. As long as most streaming sites use flash (i watch alot of esports) i will need flash support.
I also don't like that there is no bar when a page loads. There just this little wheel that spins and then its finished.
Boat boat boat boat boat!
Yeah, go boat browser.

Not really talking about the look and features where yes i agree that it is very similar to chrome. Chrome however, has added the sweet feature of being slow and subtracted flash support.
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using xda premium
But chrome can sync between any device that uses chrome. I don't recall boat or dolphin being able to do that? Or I might just be out of the loop.
I agree with wifesabitch, for the same reasons, the syncing between desktop, phone and tablet, saved passwords, book marks and familiarity. I will say that I've not tried Chrome, but I used Dolphin exclusively on all my other phones and tabs until FF came along. I did try using Chrome on laptop and importing settings, passwords and bookmarks, but it didn't gather everything and after trying 4 times I gave up. FF is not as smooth, safe, and stable as it used to be at all even on the desktop. However I've collected Nearly 500 book marks, have 6 pages of speed dials and all my passwords, until something comes along that will import all of that and be smooth, safe and stable, I'll stick with the devil I know.
Hey I found that Tint Browser is really Smooth and stable. It's like stock one but without the ANRs.

Except stock has that super-cool thumb control thingy which once you get used to it is a real pleasure to use and really fast to navigate. Oh, and Flash of course also.
try Aurora

You could always try Aurora for Android - despite its being pre-Beta, it runs really well. AND supports syncing )
I use Chrome, just for the sake of Synchronization of stuff and Chrome to Mobile.
But as somebody wrote, both FF & Chrome need some speeding up, sometimes it renders the page just too long for my taste even on fast connections.
Hello all. I've had the nexus 7 and was pleased with the consistency of the tegra 3 but it was old and outdated. Oposite of the 7, I've found that the 10 is crazy fast yet so inconsistent its ridiculous. I'll be impressed by how fast it is. Then all of sudden I'm frozen and have to hold down the hard reboot buttons. I love the nexus 10.... But the tegra is by far more consistent.... Anyone without these issues?

Hi,
Ive never had any problems with my Nexus 10 so far. I never had random reboots (AFAIK) the only reboots I had was on Firefox Beta trying to run some flash videos but so far thats it. Its been smooth sailing for me. :good:
Since I turned off Google currents background sync and switched from chrome to AOSP browser I've found performance to be pretty much perfect. I've found a few specific apps that don't work well on the n10. ITV player is probably the worst one, just locks up the n10 and stops the lock screen from working properly, either have to reboot or start up Google now from the lock screen and kill ITV player from there. But most other stuff seems to work really well, even games like GTA Vice City run at max settings (which I know others have had problems with) without a problem.
Mine runs perfectly pretty much 100% of the time. Fastest tablet I've ever used. Pretty much flawless. I've also disabled Google Currents and I'm using Ocean Browser (which is essentially AOSP but you can install it from the Play Store and on non-rooted devices).

Is there a guide to install the AOSP browser somewhere? I'd install CM 10.1 but wiping will be a pain and I don't really need any extra feature right now (I'm already rooted)

There is a flashable zip in this thread
Ditto... Since ditching Chrome for AOSP, I really have to work hard to get this thing to flinch, specifically. It did get pissed OCed to 2100; very stable from1700-2000. On craigacgomez AOSP+.
Throw cm10.1 on that puppy. Bye bye daily hangs and reboots.
I've had the same experience with Chrome
I've loaded Dolphin and Firefox and those work fine. Chrome just occasionally hangs and if I don't close the offending tab soon enough, I have to hard crash the tablet.

I've so far turned the currents thing off. I really like chrome sync so I'm gonna stick with chrome... Anything else to help performance? I'm not really interested in doing any kernel installing or such.

I've had 2-3 daily reboots at varying times (not just Chrome, also play store, pulling down a notification, opening google maps), but they've all gone since I changed my wireless router and disabled location requests. I'll turn location requests on in a few days and see how that affects things, I had another tablet (Archos spit spit) which used to crash a lot on a certain wireless router and never on another so I'm not discounting the wireless router being involved.

Why? A kernel is you best fix for performance problems.
You can also not use Live Wallpaper, as that can cause lag in games.

This. I was actually pretty amazed to find this out; kind of figured the wallpaper to not impact system performance at all... when it wasn't being shown. But alas, that's not the case... Had some horrible FPS in NFS:MW, but after disabling my live wallpaper, FPS shot right up

A live wallpaper is a type of service which is started when your home screen is showing. It is only consuming CPU resources until you switch to another app, as the service is halted at that time.
caveat: it's possible that some n00b developers don't stop drawing in onVisibilityChanged, if so, for shame

The Live Wallpaper I was using was Lonely Tree Live Wallpaper. If the developer isn't stopping drawing, I would hope it's a somewhat easy fix, or at least toggleable option.
Edit: I sent the developer an email, and got a response:
Some users have been reporting higher CPU usage than there should be. I think you might be right about it not shutting down properly.
I'll try to get it fixed ASAP. I think i know what change may have caused it.

This'll probably get locked or merged into another thread, but I'll give my opinion anyway.
I like Dolphin. Chrome and Firefox do weird things with text sizes on various pages. Especially forums. One post will have GIGANTIC TEXT, while the next will have tiny text, almost arbitrarily, it seems. I want to like Firefox on my phone, especially since I use Firefox on my computer, but I just can't. And Chrome doesn't support Flash, so screw that.
So I use Dolphin. Text gets formatted properly, you can block ads (even without root), it supports Flash, etc. It's not the fastest - in fact it's one of the slowest when it comes to benchmarks, but once things render, I find that it's the most complete mobile browser.
I can't speak for Opera, or most other browsers for that matter. I tried Puffin briefly (it's been a while though), and although it's supposedly the fastest, the interface and navigation sucks, or at least it did back then. I've downloaded CM browser, but haven't played much with it yet. Honestly, I miss the ICS browser on my old Droid Razr Maxx (with Flash, of course).

Had same problem. Crazy drain with chrome.
Wondering if it's not because I have a lot of favorite and data..
I disabled chrome and installed Samsung browser.. Very good browser and battery friendly. I'm trying also via browser. Nice one too...
If you want to stay on chrome you can also delete cache and data and watch if battery consumption is better.
At the end of the day Chrome is a bulky browser
I'd use Via browser. Its plenty fast and has it's own built in Ad blocker, plus you get access to some customization of the homepage

Chrome app on Android is using up over 20% battery without using. Have tried Force Stop but it keeps starting up anyway. Would like to DISABLE because it will not uninstall, but it says on Android Web View that it is Chrome-based. Will everything work OK if I Disable Chrome only on my Android?

Not sure why you have such high drain. Kiwi never uses that much for me.
I use brave browser, no battery drain that I can tell, well outside of my actively using it. I don't know if it is higher than if I used another browser though
I turned off the background running setting on it, via the launcher setting in the battery settings and turning it to manual and disable running in background/auto launch/etc

how much does it use per hour? It highly depends on what websites you visit though. as i said, i used to brows instagram on chrome including watching stories etc. Nowadays its mostly news, xda and an imageboard with pics and videos. thats probably why my chrome drain per hour is above average.
Firefox works perfect for me, never uses more than 400 mAh. I enabled only auto-launch while secondary launch and run in background are disabled. With this combination auto-sync and opening links from other apps work fine.
