Can the LTE versions make phone calls? - Huawei MediaPad M5 Questions & Answers

I'd like to know if the LTE versions can perform phone calls.
Does anyone know?
Thanks.

yes, you can see a screenshot of it here http://www.computerbild.de/fotos/cb...MediaPad-M5-Android-8-Tablet-19812675.html#16 (german review)

You can , just like other phone.

If fact, my MediaPad thinks it is a phone, rather than a tablet, and you can set the icon management to be like a phone too.
Works well.

It works but the as there is no earspeaker, it is always in speakermode. So you need either a headset or be fine with everybody hearing your call.

A sure way to check if it *really* thinks of itself as a phone is to put a data only sim, associated with a tablet plan in it. If it identifies itself on the network during registration and provisioning as a phone device - the speeds with data only sim will be capped to 3G, like 512k only. If it reports itself as a tablet as it should - you will get LTE service.

T-Mobile Tablet SIM in second SIM Slot?

Has anyone tried using a T-Mobile SIM in a smartphone as either a strictly data only device or in a device with two SIM trays for supplementary data? I am very interested in doing this with the 5x if it is possible. Thanks in advance.
There is a selection for which sim you want to use for Mobile Data in the SIM Management however since the device is a Dual Sim Passive device you will have to manually change to the Data only SIM once you run out of data on your primary phone SIM.

Perhaps I did not phrase my original question properly, I am wondering whether or not I can use the T-Mobile tablet specific sim in a phone. I know that I can use two sims and switch between them however, I do not know if T-Mobile will allow me to use a tablet sim in a phone.

Yes. I have done so.
Yes per T-Mobile support. I asked them directly when I tried to do this. And what crpalmer said.
I went ahead and got a tablet sim, 2gb for $20. I can confirm that it is working in the 5x. Thank you all for the help.
Difference between tablet and phone plan
What is the technical difference between the tablet and phone plans? I have a tablet Sim in my second slot and I am able to receive and send text messages. When I go on the website it lists my plan as having unlimited text and calls. Could I use this as my primary phone plan?

Dual Sim Adapter - Nexus 6

I have read of a few people using dual sim adapters and want to try one out myself Can anyone recommend one for my nexus 6?
Switching sims is annoying and I want to be able to switch between my data and regular pay and go sim without changing sim cards all the time
Will it make a difference where I order from being in the UK? Just a thought.
"EDIT"
I jumped straight in and ordered this one because I couldn't wait Will let you know how it goes if and when it turns up!

This sounds interesting. Did a search, but didn't find much info except this guy's youtube video. Found a cheap one on eBay, but shipping time is like 2-4 weeks while Aliexpress can do 10-15 days for a bit extra.
If it works for you, be sure to post back. Might be useful for using my freedompop sim as a backup.
Edit: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Port...dby-for-iPhone6-6plus-4-4S-5/32412564754.html seems to be cheaper with the faster shipping possible as well. Missing out on sim adapters.
I've used some similar looking ones on older phones which required restarting the phone to work but they did work fine but that was a long time ago.
And darn it, I didn't see that other adapter
Oh well, Ordered the one in the first post for now Just have to wait and see although it's going to take forever to arrive either way, Just hope it's worth it !!!

The sound quality was bad for both or the 2nd sim? I'm planning to use the second sim for data only. Might run into issues since main SIM is CDMA carrier but cheap enough that its worth trying for me.
That's my plan too, The second sim will only be for data, I was hoping that with some luck it wouldn't affect calls from my main sim

Well... Just got mines; however, the adapter prevents me from sliding the sim slot back in fully. It seems to recognize my ringplus sim, but gives no data. Seems like it won't work with CDMA in primary and Freedompop in secondary. There's a youtube video of Cricket and TMobile working together though.

I'd like to do a hybrid of what you're trying to do and that youtube video...Ringplus and Cricket. I'm not sure if you can do sim switching between CDMA and GSM though.
Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like it can. I think the adapter doesn't play well with CDMA at all as it just sat there unable to see the Ringplus UICC sim card. I'll try to get cricket and freedompop working when I get home today. If that works, at least I know it isn't a faulty adapter. Then I'll try to do gsm + cdma one more time.
Edit: Online searching shows dual sim adapters that are compatible with CDMA. The adapter itself looks the same, so maybe I just didn't get the connections right. :\
Edit 2: I got it working It takes like 3 minutes for it to switch between Cricket and Freedompop though... It would be faster to just swap cards if you have the tools lol. Still no go with Ringplus + freedompop
Mine's has notyet arrived Although I am sure it's just taking it's time sight seeing on the way to me from china
ETA is 15-29 days from my order so I have some time to wait yet

Sprint (Freedompop) has no HSPA network... So probably no it wasn't working unless you saw a 3G or LTE icon.

I'm using their global GSM sim. It uses Tmobile and ATT roaming in US.
I thought when you mentioned Freedom Pop, you meant FP on the Sprint network. So 2 GSM sims should work.
I'm looking for validation if CDMA and GSM will work.

Xperia Tablet Z4 - T-Mobile Support?

I about to buy this tablet, but have some concerns regarding the LTE version support with T-Mobile in the USA.
Can i use a phone sim with this tablet? **Just to be clear in regards to phone sim with T-Mobile i mean that i can use the tablet on a phone plan (voice+data) and not data only like they did in the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact**
Does it support T-Mobiles LTE bands?

Hi,
1. Yes with nano sim. Userguide: http://support.sonymobile.com/global-en/xperiaz4tablet/userguide/
2. You can download the whitepaper for th SGP771 here: http://developer.sonymobile.com/downloads/whitepapers/xperia-z4-tablet-sgp771-white-paper/
And see if the T-Mobiles band is supported. (And I have no doubt that it is supported)

Doesn't say anything about T-Mobile in the US. Even when some tablets support it it is block by their network and if you put a phone sim card on it it will only do calls/sms and no data or you need to use a data-device sim card which doesnt support calls. Hence my question in regards to an specific provider.
I have a T-Mobile sim in mine right now. I can tell you that I DO NOT have a phone app in order to make calls. I am using a sim card from my second phone account. It connects to LTE fine and has good speeds on data. I am not sure if it's because the tablet is considered international or if it's blocked from T-Mobile. I contacted Sony and did not get much information.
I wish the OP or others would chime in about this. @legendindisguise may I ask what model yours is and where you got it from? What makes it more challenging is that the model number is SGP771 (right?) but for some it works for others not, so perhaps like the OP said the network is somehow blocking this feature?
Just to add to this post there is two model versions of the SGP771 with wifi and LTE I believe.
International version 43015809
Alledged US version 13035541
UK model ? Comes with keyboard 12957383
I just got a SIM card for my Xperia Z4 Tablet LTE (SGP771 / 13035541) on the AT&T network with a new AT&T account. This SIM is a new line with Phone+Data and I am having an issue making calls and making data connections (websites, etc..). I am still investigating and will update everyone when I figure something out. Odd thing is that the tablet connects to the network enough to display AT&T, the correct phone number assigned to the device, and 3 AT&T APNs, but nothing is working.

Totally forgot to update this post! Works great on the AT&T network. I did have to call AT&T to update the APN details but after that it works great. I can make phone calls and use the LTE data without any issues. I even took it to Spain and it worked great there too.

Tether/Hotspot not working?

I can get my device to turn on the hotspot and I can connect other devices, but I have no internet on my phone or the device I connected to from the hotspot (say, my laptop). I am on AT&T in the US and typically in the past I need root to allow hotspot, as most devices on AT&T will give you an error message to go buy a tethering package before you can enable. But that isn't happening with this device, as I can actually connect just without the internet working. So I'm not sure if this is an issue with this phone itself or if this is still an AT&T block, just in a different way. Let me know if you can get access to hotspot and if so what you are doing. Thanks!
Anyone?
I have no problem with hotspot.
AT&T was known for restricting internet sharing for user who dont have tethering plan,
So why dont you try with other sim which has tethering plan?
My carrier doesnt have that limitation, so cant really give you best answer
Go to apn and delete the bottom apn, that will fix it
I have dual sim version (L29). Two 4g sims inserted. Sim1 as main sim.
When tethering my laptop on Sim1, I cannot browse the internet on my phone. Whatsapp messages do not send or receive.
Anyone having similar issues? I'm sure this used to work fine before on my Samsung S5

Hi i have the same problem, when my tethering is active i cannot have internet on the device, only on my computer. I tried to delete the APN and reset them but still not working. I got my phone today . Model ALP-L29.
Well I didn't get the best solution but for the people like me with the tethering issue on model ALP-L29 they can put the sim on the sim 2 slot and tethering and device will have internet. But I still waiting to find a real solution for slot 1 sim. I hope it helps

This is nuts. I too have the Mate 10 dual sim version, and had the same issue; data on my connected device but NOT on the handset itself when hot spot connected. Only 1 APN.
And sure enough, changing the SIM into SIM2 slot fixed this; data simultaneously on handset and connectyed device. But this defeats the purpose of me choosing this model as I wanted the micro SD storage!
So any further advice on getting SIM 1 enabled properly woudl be great.
cheers

I spent an hour on chat support with Huawei this morning and they confirmed this is not correct functionality and to return it to the retailer. Bit hard as this is a grey import in the UK and I don't want to send it back to Hong Kong. Would love to know if anyone has genuinely managed to get SIM1 working on the dual-sim model for tethering?

You're right. This seems a common theme so I've returned the phone and am getting a LG V30. Same price. Huawei aren't quite there yet to be in the Premium phone category. Ok Google never worked; WhatsApp only notified me of messages half the time. Many small issues that collectively ruin the experience....

Question Limited sim manager in verizon?

I currently have dual Sims running on my s23 ultra. Both Sims are from Verizon. Phone is unlocked and originally purchased from Google fi.
However, I am unable to designate one sim for data and one sim for calls only in sim manager. There is only an option to designate a primary sim.
Does anyone have any idea if there is a command to unlock all the features in sim manager? I tried searching, but have been unable to find anything.
This is a feature that Samsung doesn't offer. You have to choose a default SIM for both and then tap the indicators in the OS to swap between them. Like if you're making a call, both SIM names will show up at the bottom of the screen and you can tap which to use. When sending a message, you'll see towards the right of the text box there will be a number 1 or 2 in a SIM card. You tap that to switch between them. You can set custom labels and SIM icons/colors to help differentiate them further.
It hasn't been a big deal unless I need to download or send an MMS on the line that's not set as the default and I also appreciate that Samsung adds an option to set a specific ringer for the second SIM - allows me to just silence my data SIM.
I'm from South Africa and I use 2 physical sims on my phone. It gives me the options to decide which phone to use for calls/messages/data as per your screen shot. I see you have on e-sim and one physical sim. Maybe that is the reason you don't get the options I have. I have my primary sim for calls and messages and sim 2 for data setup. When configured it also gives you the options in the drop down menu to change on the fly without going into the settings menu
I definitely agree that the North American dual-SIM (pSIM + eSIM) options are lacking. Unlike the dual-pSIM model, pSIM + eSIM in North American models are DSDS (dual-SIM dual standby) instead of DSDA (dual-SIM dual active).

The last post in that thread seems to imply it was fixed/patched with OneUI 5. s23 Ultra users don't have the ability to roll back to Android 12
I must have missed that in the thread, that's unfortunate. Hopefully we will have a work around in the near future. Appreciate the info!
I also have this problem and hope it can be solved.
it's a little annoy because I have a sim for data and another sim for call and message.
I prefer to have my devices ask which SIM for every call. Depending on the country I am in, would determine the SIM I want to set for data.

I disagree, because i had 2 sims in my samsung Phone and it let me put from which shall be for data and which is for calls, sms/mms. So Samsung does have it, unless they removed it.

Apparently international variants have it, which I wasn't aware of, but US variants do not. This is a stupid thing for Samsung to do and I hope they fix it at some point.
I am using a s918b version. If I flash EUX Home_CSC , I will have option to select which sim for call, sms, data, and the data switch option as well. However, if I flash XAC (Canada)home_csc, then I only have one option to select which sim to be the primary sim. So I dont know, if it's a CSC related feature or not.
So If my device havevthe csc code with xaa, I can reflash with the csc which provide the dual sim manager?
