Hey guys, I'm coming from a Xperia Z5 Premium here, and my question is will I be able to flash a unbranded firmware onto the Verizon LG V30 (VS996).
With my Z5P, I would use Xperifirm & SP Flashtool to flash different firmwares, does LG KDZ's work the same?, I'm not too experienced so sorry if this is a noob question.
Also I know the obvious solution would be to buy the unlocked version of the V30, but I won't be doing that, any help/answers are appreciated, thanks. :good:

No, as LG has added signature checks for all variant firmware for V30. You can't crossflash LG firmware to other variants anymore, like you could with the V20.

Ahh okay, thankyou for your reply, I guess I'm just stuck with the Verizon firmware then lol, going a little off topic, is there likely to be a root method for the VS996?, I know your very involved with the V30 community, thanks.

It's worth mentioning in here incase anyone comes across it, it (might) be possible to unlock your bootloader and root using the information in the thread above, I myself haven't read too much into it but if anyone's interested I definitely recommend going to check it out :good:

Yeah, the situation has definitely changed in the past few days. Back in March we thought we couldn't cross flash between variants. Turns out that's NOT TRUE, especially if you use the patch LGUP.
Recently we knew it was possible to flash TO VS996 from LG US998 but now we found out there's a simple bootloader unlock bug in Oreo.

Please, I wish people wouldn't dig you old threads. You are going to risk wrong answers compared to recent threads. Look at WTF thread or especially Frankenstein thread. Those emphasize CROSSFLASHING North American variants and give the instructions! < WHICH I WROTE
We can't lock every thread. Just let die and stay buried, please. Well, at least you read my LAST answer where I said the situation had "recently" changed. That was 7 or 8 months ago -- so not recent any more.

You can only flash KDZ/ROMs for your model number (H870).
Only the region is allowed to be different, but that's not the case, so, no.
Reporting in with an H873 from Rogers - downloaded and flashed with Uppercut + LGUP.
To my extremely pleasant surprise, it updated without issue (no factory restore necessary) - Rogers Wifi Calling also prompted me to activate, but haven't yet tested.
Thanks for this!
Question: Is this KDZ carrier-specific? Will I lose any features by flashing this? And, finally, will my device be factory reset if I flash this through LGUP?
My carrier is Koodo.

You shouldn't flash firmware that isn't for your specific hardware model. That's the rule of thumb.
It's probably best if you wait for the update to be released for your model. Don't risk it!

Thanks for the reminder, though I'm not holding my breath on any release for my model. My carrier hasn't released a single update since August 2017 so I'm better off either letting 7.0 sink in as my OS for the rest of my phone's life or hope for a way to root it :silly:

I do not think so, in my opinion we will have a model updated every week until they have all Oreo.
When there was only Korea, I thought like you, now that Canada has had the update also I do not see why the other countries would take so much time, it sure will be fast !
Newbie (well to the V30) here, coming over from the HTC 10, Nexus 5x previous to that... Would like to run a rather stock experience, rooted, twrp and debloated. I've got the AT&T version of this phone.

Boombox is partially debloated with some unnecessary apps being removed, but there's another full-sized stock rom named "Theory of Everything" which is more noticeably debloated and has the features for the AI software. I'd definitely recommend that to anybody new to the LG V30.
Thanks for the reply guys, i think i may jsut go stock and debloat on my own w/Titanium Backup...

Once you convert to Oreo US998 or H930 there's not much to debloat. Wallpapers, Facebook. What else? And I like Facebook. LG Health? I sort of like that, actually.

Right. Jump you post #193 in that thread. Post #1 in that thread has copy and paste of post #193, but the original is easier to read than quoted version.
Print it out if you can. Don't skip steps. It clearly tells when the go to the next section. It's not hard, you just have to follow the steps.
CONCEPT: @TxanMoe discovered LG Oreo on the V30/V30+/V30S has nice flaw where you can flash your own bootloader unlock code to successfully unlock the bootloader, install TWRP and root.
But you need fastboot flash commands. In North America, only the carrier unlocked US998 has that. But you can use dev patched LGUP to convert any other North America phone (except T-mobile H932) to become a US998 Oreo phone. FLASH bootloader unlock code. BOOM. Sprint and Verizon users then add back LTE bands or VoLTE/Wi-fi calling.
Similar situation for the the rest of the world with the European H930 Oreo. Some differences but for this overall view, it's the same concept.
Now, we have learned the June Android security patch will have fix for "LG bootloaders". Unlock the bootloader while you can!
Thank you to all for the input. The phone arrived, but OLED has an issue, some green dot thats always on. More than just one stuck pixel.. back it goes...
Hello there
I was just thinking about grabbing LG v30 since it has all the great features and camera within a great price but the throwback for me was that there was not option for custom equalizer but I searched and was able to find out that I can get it if I root my device but then I won’t be able to install LG OTA updates if I am not wrong
So is there a possibility that LG drops equalizer on LG v30 after android pie update for LG v30 since it uses the same dac as v40 so there shouldn’t be problem porting it to v30
Or is there anyway that I can install OTA update by unrooting and stuff
Thanks in Advance
You can still get updates. You just need to download them and flash it yourself.

Ok, so first I apologise if this has been posted, but upon searching I found nothing.
Ok, so I unlocked my bootloader when I was still on 10d, but my friend updated my phone (I left it at his house to tamper with, never thinking he'd update it) and now is on 20o and has the October 2018 security patch.
All that to say, can I still achieve root (or twrp or magisk?) though my V30 has been updated but because my bootloader is unlocked?
And I'm quite familiar with rooting and unlocking bootloaders but LG phones throw my brain into a haze.
Any help would be appreciated, and thank you in advance.

You searched and found nothing and know nothing about rooting the T-mobile H932? I find that hard to believe since the T-mobile H932 has been rooted since September 2018 and the thread is almost always prominently posted in the Guides section. Link posted below and the thread title is hilariously blunt and answers your question.
As you know or should know, for your T-Mobile H932, you will need to downgrade back to Nougat 10d to install TWRP and root. Ability to downgrade back to 10d has nothing to do with whether your bootloader is already unlocked or not. People on current T-mobile H932 20S can downgrade back to Nougat 10d to unlock bootloader, install TWRP and root.
As you know or should know, this method below is the only way to install TWRP and root the T-Mobile H932:
[ROOT] H932 - lafploit 1.5 (but you MUST downgrade to v10d)
(This method is ONLY for the T-mobile H932. Everyone uses the WTF method.)
Any further questions, please ask in that thread.
After you downgrade back to 10d, install TWRP and root, then you can use TWRP-flashable zip (ROM) to update to T-MOBILE H932 20S:
[STOCK] [H932] [20s] [Oreo] T-Mobile LG V30 Stock Collection (Includes Debloated)

You don't say what variant you have, but known issue with US998 Pie 30b KDZ. So, I assume that's what you have.
See post #2 and post #6 of the US998 Pie KDZ thread for workarounds. If none work, then you have to stay of Oreo 20h until another KDZ is released.
i have us998 variant... I successfully flashed us99820a with lgup and it booted fine again.
I will use this as an opportunity to unlock bootloader, root and install TWRP.
Can I upgrade to pie using TWRP after that?

Yes.
But if you can't get to Pie after installing TWRP, you should at least flash US998 20h, not 20a. 20a is only for bootloader unlock. Tons of fixes, improvements in 20e, 20f, 20g, 20h.

I think my used lg v30 was converted from another variant to us998 ... is it safe to unlock the bootloader knowing that my phone might have been converted?

Yes. The WTF INSTRUCTIONS are all you need for ANY variant except for T-Mobile H932. You should read them so you wouldn't be asking unnecessary questions like this.
All North American variants (EXCEPT T-MOBILE H932) HAVE to (at least temporarily) convert to USS98 for bootloader unlock. If people are not Sprint customers, then they stay on US998 firmware or flash to other firmware. Sprint customers can flash back to Sprint TWRP flashable zip to get back on Sprint firmware.

The WTF INSTRUCTIONS were written in May 2018 and have been updated constantly.
Read it web browser, not an app. Print out if you can.

All your questions will be answered in the WTF INSTRUCTIONS.
We've had bootloader unlock and root since May 2018 and all possible questions have already been asked and answered.
Read in web browser, not an app. Helps to print them out.
Note there are a dozen Troubleshooting Tips (Section 7) IN that post, so if you have any issues please don't ask questions until you've tried them all?
Because that's going to be our answer anyway.
Besides that, you can also SEARCH that WTF thread for key words. More recent posts would be more relevant, of course.
