Mate 10 Pro - To Root Or Not Root, That Is The Question? - Huawei Mate 10 Questions & Answers

Morning
I'm not new to rooting having performed the task on multiple devices in the past and know of the enhancements it can bring
Now I'm debating whether or not to do this on my latest device and the only thing stopping me is whether or not I can use my Barclays banking app
So are there any UK Mate 10 Pro users out there who have rooted and can still use their banking app or am I just putting too much importance in being
able to access and view my depleted balance
Thanks in advance

If your device does not have any operator bloat then no need to root, this phone is super smooth and fast u don't need root and with 6gb of ram it will not slow down, in my experience root did not do much benefits, I use US mate 10pro though.

I agree, always rooted my phones. I only miss adaway( virtual hosts is just not that good) and viper4android. The rest i can easily live without

I'm in a similar position - came from a OnePlus One which was always rooted and struggled frequently with Barclays detecting root, even with Magisk Hide. I always thought it was stupid how they seemed to so bothered by detecting it, yet tell you to log in via the website, which on a rooted device could offer the same insecurities (of course they can't tell via the website so couldn't stop you even if you wanted). The only thing I missed with the app was the cheque paying in function (still in beta) - which was occasionally useful.
On the latest Oreo ROM on my OnePlus One I was able to use the random package name feature in Magisk and get Barclays to run fine - but the battery was gradually getting worse and I dropped it in the toilet, so decided it was time to upgrade!
So far I've resisted root and am not really regretting it. I've managed to get Tasker running without it to do most of what I want, and vanced Youtube with background playback enabled and no ads - everything else I can live without. At least that way I don't have any worries about potential warranty issues bootloop chances.
In a year or so when I'm missing some updates I may feel differently, but for now I can live quite happily with EMUI and Oreo - it has it's own foibles, but so do most custom ROMS in my experience.
Just my tuppence worth...

Similar here. I've rooted all of my phones starting with the Galaxy S, Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4 etc up to the Nexus 6. The LG V10 was the first, I did not root for quite some time. At first there was no root available and I had to "learn" to use an unrooted phone. But then even after root was available I did not do it because I was happy with the phone as it was.
The Moto Z afterwards was not rooted at all because the Z was the first phone I had which received regular/monthly securty updates and meanwhile with the severe security issues patched with those updates a more secure phone was more attractive then the benefits of rooting. As my wife needed a new phone recently she got the Moto Z and I got the Mate 10 Pro. Same here. More or less regulare updates by Huawei are more important to me than rooting. Mybe because the benefits have decreased meanwhile. Viper4Android would be the only reasen to maybe root it. But if I'm correct V4A is not yet available for Oreo. For AdAway (the other reason to root) I found an acceptable replacement which is called Virtual Hosts.

Evening, can you give me a link to this Virtual Hosts app if possible, using Ad Clear at the moment, Thanks

@Software Guru
Take a look at the first post in this threat:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-10/themes/help-unrooted-device-ad-spam-t3740126

I second that. Those are the only apps I root my phones for. I now have the Mate 10 Pro. I managed to root with magisk but there is no way to get v4a working. I really miss the sound mod.

I loved my mate 8 and mate 9 and now Mate 10 and have never rooted or will root my Huawei phones. I have rooted other Android phones in the past but feel no need to on Huawei.

Why would anyone want to upgrade their Android ROM anymore?

It seems that 9 times out of 10 I read about a problem with an android, it's about an OS update breaking things:
"Can't root the latest stock ROM update nohow"
"Latest mfc ROM / CM / etc. incorporated XXX change and now I can't get Viper4Android / AutomateIt / whatever working"
"Latest 5.x ROM now requires root for the same app / action that didn't require root before"
"SELinux / Knox / etc. can't be disabled nohow on the latest ROM"
Personally I got everything working just the way I want on the rooted form of the stock 4.4.2 ROM that came with my LG G Pro 2
--and I'd strangle anyone who hits the update button on it (except I think rooting disabled the OTA update thing)
----and I have half a mind to buy another identical phone for backup, because this phone still seems to be able to go toe to toe with the latest flagships (1080p screen is plenty dense enough for my eyes, 3GB/32GB still seems to be the maximum amount of memory any phone packs, I could care less about new CPUs that eat batteries at the same rate that they increase performance) and more importantly, I'm very pessimistic about the prospects of being able to get Viper4Android, Xposed framework, VolumeSteps+, PBMC Mappings and AutomateIt all working on whatever ROM that comes with whatever next phone I would have to buy when this one breaks.
I read the adventures of those who upgrade their ROM nightly and run into a different compatibility problem every night the way I listen to the ravings of a lunatic walking out of a spectacular train wreck
And I have a friend whom I bought a Sony Z3 for who had gone through trying a dozen different ROMs in a few weeks. It's a brick now
You can argue that the older versions of Android would have more stability and mods, but most end users are not as tech savvy and are less demanding as yourself. All they need is a phone that functions properly for them. Usually developers release updates to fix stuff with the current firmware, so most end users would be tempted to do the update when it comes out. They would be less concerned with things like V4A and custom mods which require more knowledge. As for LG G Pro 2, I wouldn't say it's able to go head to head with other flagship phones, unless you used a custom ROM with it. Specifications wise, it will still lose out to most phones, because no matter how much you attempt to tweak the software, it is still limited by the hardware. Furthermore, when you compare the developer database to Samsung and Sony, LG has a much smaller database as compared to both manufacturers. You can find plenty of custom ROMs for Samsung and Sony phones, but not so for LG phones. Just my two cents.

This is possibly my dream tablet; how 'dev-friendly' is it?

The Z4 Tablet is possibly my dream tablet, it has a great screen, microSD slot, good battery life and it seems dev-friendly.
I've got no Sony experience and I see surprisingly little custom ROM development. How 'dev-friendly' is this tablet? Does Sony provide source codes, drivers? Are they easy in unlocking bootloaders and flashing stuff like radios? Does it seem likely custom post-Marshmallow ROMs will be cooked in 1,5-2 years from now on?
do some research!
e.g. here "Anybody work on root?" much off topic posts unfortunately
there are two section with the title "Development" here ...
look at the phones: Z3+ and Z5 (nearly the same sources)
and all you need with almost useful documentation in SONY's Developer world:

I admit my question was a bit lazy, but it'd be pretty easy for people like you with lots of experience/knowledge on this Sony platform to give me a general idea.
I ordered a Z4T, but while reading this subforom while waiting for the shipment, things start to itch me a bit.
I'll anwer my own questions the way I see it now: Sony is pretty developer-friendly by providing source code and build instructions, but it's pretty buggy and there are very few developers doing stuff for the Z4T. I guess it's because of the bad availability of the device and the relatively small user base. The people @ FXP build ROMs, but I haven't heard much about how useful these builds are. If anything, I heard people downgrading from the 5.1.1 build. Rooting is only possible by unlocking the bootloader and flashing @AndroPlus' custom kernel. His current TWRP build has a bug that makes it impossible to restore a device backup.
Sony provides the option for unlocking the bootloader, but you'll completely lose your warranty. Furthermore, the TA partition will be irreverably changed and you'll lose functionality.
Marhsmallow has been announced, so there's that.
SONY's devices are good compromise for me
@jelbo
Good summary!
My opinion:
The SONY devices are good hardware. I like them because they are water resistant since I lost a phone after cycling in heavy rain.
I have a Tablet xperia Z with CyanogenMod on it. Android 5.1
The start with that 3rd party ROM was slow and it was quite buggy. Also battery life was worse than with stock ROM.
I have a SAMSUNG Galxy S5 phone. They have Knox-protection on their devices. Quite evil compared to SONY. Because it was released with Kitkat I could root it via exploit and keep Knox untriggered. I could get CyanogenMod, even Marshmallow Alphas for the phone. But the drivers are not that good and the battery life with stock is very good (up to four days for me).
So I will keep that phone on stock and I used Titanium Backup to get rid of SAMSUNG's bloatware.
SAMSUNG do not provide documentation and many of their SOCs are proprietary - no chance to do any development for these devices.
Long post short: SONY is very open and relatively easy to hack on their devices.
Better (now) in price and features than the Nexus devices IMO. I would never buy a device without any chance to do development on it.
I think the bug in TWRP will get fixed soon (has bitten me once).
Thanks for your kind reply

Sounds familiar. In my experience with the last few phones I've had, AOSP-based ROMs were always a tad slower and less battery-friendly than stock or stock based ROMs. For example, the stock 'Google Play Edition' ROMs ran like a dream on my HTC One m7, but others were always less smooth / battery friendly.
So, for the Z4T I'm not partularly worried about the lack of 3rd party ROMs. I'll be fine with stock rooted. But for the longer term, because of the unpopularity, I think it's unlikely to see much going on in a year from now on and that kind of makes me doubt my purchase.
I have a SAMSUNG Galxy S5 phone. They have Knox-protection on their devices. Quite evil compared to SONY.

Yes, but not more evil than Sony I think. Samsung's bootloader unlock 'trips' Knox and it'll disable features like secure storage and services that depend on it. It's also irreversible. It's an awful lot like Sony's irreversible TA partition 'tripping'.
Because it was released with Kitkat I could root it via exploit and keep Knox untriggered. I could get CyanogenMod, even Marshmallow Alphas for the phone. But the drivers are not that good and the battery life with stock is very good (up to four days for me).

I could root my Galaxy S6 using an exploit, without tripping Knox. I'm running 5.1.1 with an engineering bootloader, while still having my Knox untriggered. It's a luxury I'm not gonna have on the Z4T, unless an exploit will be found.
SAMSUNG do not provide documentation and many of their SOCs are proprietary - no chance to do any development for these devices.

Yes, it's one of the reasons I want to avoid a Samsung as my new tablet. Exynos is a black box, so custom, stock-based ROMs will be the best you can get. BUT, I'm doubting now. Custom, stock-based ROMs are fine with me - as you mention, battery life is great. And on top of that, Samsung is so popular that lots of development is being done. I think chances are bigger to see the Marshmallow successor being ported for older Samsung devices than we'll see on this Sony Z4 Tablet in the future. But that's an assumption, I don't have Sony experience, but I see things re pretty dead here, even though the device was released quite a long time ago.
Long post short: SONY is very open and relatively easy to hack on their devices.

The microSD is an essential part for me. If the Pixel C would have had a microSD-slot I'd have chosen that. Development and future updates are a huge selling point for Nexus devices.

Let's hope so.
Hopefully the Z4T will get some more love soon, as I have just sent my Pixel C back and taken a punt at a open box Amazon warehouse deal last night with 40% off the LTE
I love my Z3CT, Z3C and Ultra, which have had great support from the devs, so am expecting the Z4 to be the best hardware of the lot, but would also love a root method while keeping the bootloader locked for now.
Heres to hoping perhaps MM will lead to some kernel exploits.

Dont get me started on the Pixel C from Google UK pricing error on day 1 and their refusal for a week to refund or swapout 32g for 64g devices, due to their error; then I had a hardware fault with the screen not responding after 24hrs of use. I found their support just awful More issues were being reported in the xda forum and I decided I wasn't going to spend £550 to beta test for google. Nice solid device but heavier that the Z4 and sliding the keybard across the keyboard to remove it, just made me nervous of scratching something everytime I did it.
To be honest the Z4 forums are very quiet, but so were the pixel c's; as a few people were commenting.
I had to root my Z3 Tab by loading the Z3 phone firmware and rooting that, as that had a kernel vunerability and the kernel on the Z3 tab didn't.
Once the Z3 phone firmware was loaded and rooted, I could backup my TA partition and reload the Z3 tab firmware, rooted.
Its generally the phones that get root and the tabs have to utilise what they can, unless of course a dev has the tab.
The tab forums got much busier once the device had a less risky root method.
Sad to see that Nut hasn't got a recovery done, but I am assuming that due to root only being available by unlocking and losing TA, so limited testers, but haven't had time to read the history yet.
I have to say though that the Z4 is fantastic in comparison to the Pixel C and I am very glad I have reverted to the device that I know especially at £360 for the LTE version + keyboard on Amazon open box. First time using and the device is pristine. To be fair the Z4 is many iterations of getting it right and the Pixel is googles first try. Once its at Pixel C v4 it will probably be very good!
Heres to hoping MM is officially released soon, so the chances of rooting may get better.
from Nut
This is the reason why I didn't release XZDR for the Z3+/Z4/TabZ4 yet, too much difference with the Shinano and older device trees.
Edit:
That should be solved with 2.9 though...

Seems the 64 bits is a material change, so things need to progress in 2.9 from my early readings.

Thanks for your reply, good info. I'm glad to hear some reassuring comments on the Z4T. Looks like you had a great deal as well. In the Netherlands they're hard to get. I payed €635 for the WiFi model... I'm still doubting a little bit to go for a discounted Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 for €380 though. I read it'll even get Marshmallow in April. Price difference is pretty big and there's lots of stuff for it already.
I'll have a look in some Xperia phone subforums on XDA.

Yes there are no deals on the Z4 Tab in the UK and all the new prices are the same retail price.
Thats why I decided to take a chance on the Amazon one, as I could return it if it was damaged or anything; and normal 12 months warranty with Amazon.
For me I haven't had a Samsung since my Tab 7.7 and wouldn't personally have another, but each to their own. The devs were always complaining at Samsung not releasing all the source code to their SoC's, wheereas Sony seemed to be more dev friendly.
The Z3 Tab is fantastic if you didn't mind the 8inch, but I am hoping once the Z3+ root is forthcoming and general 64bit root/recovery is done, then we will have some progress; he says, not being able to help the devs on whats seems a lot of work.

It's a shame that such a good device is so low supported by free developers even though it seems it's more open by the Sony in comparison with Samsung.
I noticed that some people think in the thread that not so much users have this device. I have an old phone so called HTC desire HD which was released in the faraway 2010, it is excellent supported as it even has the contemporary android 6.0. I don't believe that there are more HTC decide HD users rather than xperia tablet z4 users. Moreover, I see as my comrade-users of our device crying ? everyday on a Russian 4pda.ru site, that we wait but there's no a good root method, there is no a good description or a video showing us how does the only custom ROM work. What works and what is broken. And just not seeing good news over the course of several months. Of course, I am very disappointed in dramatic fashion, but I hope The change will come.
Thank you for attention!)
cut the drama
- you should not compare a phone to a tablet (numberwise)
- look into the fora for phones Z3+/Z4 and Z5
they have nearly identical SoCs, differences a sometimes build options
- there is a HUGE xperia cross devices forum here with tons of additional info
- the Z4 Tablet became available in June 2015
- the first sources from SONY showed up in .... June 2015
- I rooted the device in July - having done no Android programming or rooting before
- I ordered the device after researching (see below) and before there was root available because my findings showed that there would be sources and documentation from SONY so that if all else fails I would get later a custom rom or could even roll my own
- a video for "seeing" developing/hacking? Dream on...
- there is lots of documentation (even video) available, maybe no video on how to do a web search or an xda search
- searching (and reading and trying things out) worked for me - coming from SAMSUNG phones with no prior development experience on Android ... TRY IT

Small point, but the rooting element is by unlocking the bootloader, which not all will want to do. It is though an option that exists and we are thankful for those that have done so in order to progress the dev support.

Huawei T1 8 Pro - A way to confuse people and put my 2 cents

US..ONLY..So after an extensive research ...I bought the biggest Smartphone I can get...An 8 inch screen phone with a good battery life. For starters, here is what I found out...
Huawei has several models that are very confusing and even their customer service were not that much informative. models I have encountered are the following:
Huawei T1 8 Pro Honor - 823 L - 2 GB RAM and 16 GB Storage (Limited Bands for LTE but 4G speeds were fast enough for my use, got it from ebay)
Huawei T1 8 Pro Honor - 821 L - 1 GB RAM and 8 GB or 16 GB Storage options (More bands for LTE but 1 GB of RAM only)
Huawei T1 8 Pro Honor - 821 W - 1 GB RAM and 16 GB storage option (I think the W stands for WIFI...this I cannot confirm)
Huawei T1 8 Pro Mediapad - 2 GB RAM and 16 GB Storage from gethuawei website...out of stock as of this writing)
Huawei T1 8 Mediapad - 1 GB RAM and 16 GB Storage
This one has 4.4 for Android OS...I do not know if http://forum.xda-developers.com/hua...ot-huawei-mediapad-t1-8-0-pro-lte-t1-t3262608

personally, the hardware is decent and battery life is great. I used it for 1 day and end fo the day still had 50% of battery life. I do need to have big pants though. Is there anyone trying to develop an updated OS for this system?

Too Bad, this is a good device and the battery life is good for a phone with an 8 inch screen. It is also good for those who have problems with vision and not wanting to be bringing 2 devices for travels.
I may have to learn programming to see if I can update this...
I have the MediaPad T1 8.0 Pro and it has the best radio/modem for T-Mobile coverage. It even covers their HSPDA+ 750 MhZ band which only a few phones cover; this is the band that T-Mobile calls the "building buster" for its ability to penetrate most buildings. So yeah for all that.. I'm now waiting for an 8-inch phablet that's octo-core and features Lollipop or Marshmallow. So far I have been unable to find one..
So which one of the above did you get? 823L, 821L, or the one from Gethuawei website?...i m like you impressed with the build but needs a pure Android OS to maximize it's potential.
A have the pro8 t1-821L its rootable and bloatware can be removed this way I have also unlocked the bootloader but there is no custom recovery or ROM which is a damn shame because it's nice bit of kit a can watch movies all night long on it and still not need to charge it also am not locked to EE either so if any devs r reading this post please help this phablet out? cheers

I would have wanted the 821L also but there were no 2GB available anywhere. Only 1 GB. But even with my 823L and connecting at 4G, the speed is negligible in our area which is Central Florida. I get to watch Netflix, and Youtube also with not much lag. And I do not have to squint from a small screen. Agree, also that if anyone can build a custom ROM that's plain Android Lolllipop would be nice.
Would a T1 8 Cutom ROM work for the T1 8 Pro?

The page you linked is not good. The download links are there just to make you send money. Currently there are no custom recovery for huawei t1 8.0 neither to t1 8.0 pro without that installing custom roms are not really convenient. And also I wasn't able to find any custom rom especially on XDA, so I'm pretty sure thereare no "hints" on xda as the page says....

Yes I do agree with everyone here. It is a very great device and a lot of bang for your buck plus more. The great thing about it is that you can basically make it however you want it. I manually updated mine to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. Which took some time because Huawei is a very new brand and I had to get used to there EmotionUI. Which didn't take long because its Android too. Just without the app drawer. So its kind of ahead because Android N is going that direction from what I hear. Also after rooting and installing BusyBox I tried to install xPosed. But the Huawei device wouldn't take it because they already have there own framework. So I started to tinker more with it and found out that yes indeed they have framework already. That's why it reads a message error when trying to install xPosed and it says something about xPosed not being compatible. I believe it has something to do with their EmotionUI. Not sure though because that's my first Huawei experience. The device is really solid though. Resolution can be tweaked and the display looks so gorgeous then. Values for everything can be tweaked to make the OS run liquid smooth and fast with very little noticeable lag or hiccups. Also the volume values can change as well giving it a more premium sound. Camera resolution was turned up along with high quality pictures. So the pics stayed sharp looking. Also when some values are entered it gives the gaming experience so much more life through the CPU and the GPU. Rendering gets way better too. Also changing the data values gives it more LTE speed too. Along with other values that make the browser loading times instantly. Even when being on the mobile data network seems like you would be connected to WiFi. It saves a lot of data too. And the battery is amazing. I'm trying to remember what other tweaks worked perfect for it and it ran with no problems. Oh yes it can multi task with up to four things going on. I got the app where you can, watch YouTube and Google something. And watch something on eBay all in different windows at the same time. It got warm but handles it very well. You should overclock it and have the battery set on smart mode. Oh yes and change the font. I had Disney font on it and went to a more modern font look. I'll let y'all know what else I did if I can think of anymore things. Just reply I will come back to this forum. It is my most favorite device of all at the moment. And Huawei is so new too.

How did you updated your device to Android 6.0?
Yes, how did you update to 6 Marshmallow, your experience is very promising for us...
Sorry....

So sorry the link is not working...I guess it's up to this thread if we can have enough people to put our thought and reviews together about this device. As of today, I started looking at battery life, Pulled out the charger at 7 AM, Now its 7 Pm and I still at 70%.

Can we use a T1 10 Pro Rom for this device? Any of our XDA programmers chime in...?
So I just bought a Huawei ascend mate 7... finished using the tablet phone as I am almost done with my school... It was a nice piece of hardware and convenient in not having to bring two devices... But now I need mobility so I will be selling this one soon on eBay. If only it had a good following to install a updated os ....

Huawei Mate 10 Pro Face Unlock

Hello guys, i read this article before. i applied this my ex phone (oneplus 3t) and it was successfull.
But I can't set a Trusted Face in Smart Lock at mate 10 pro.
How can i do that?
https://android.gadgethacks.com/how-to/get-oneplus-5ts-face-unlock-any-phone-0181291/
(Get the OnePlus 5T's Face Unlock on Any Phone)
I don't think you can. Huawei have removed it from Smart Lock.
Since Honor V10 has the face unlock (in future rom), maybe can port the app to Mate 10 series.
But in my view face unlock might be unnecessary in the sense that you have to raise the phone anyway for face unlock and whereby fingerprint is faster as you don't have to align phone to your face. However face unlock will help when phone is docked during driving. And this leads me to guess that one could have their phone on a stand up dock on the work desk as well and use face unlock without needing to lift the phone.
why removed? all of android phones use it.
we are using android 8 but we can use a very important option...
Some news has come about with the Honor View 10. It now has Face Unlock which is very nice as it starts checking the face as soon as you take the phone off a table so the power button doesn't even need to be pressed.
Also the Mate 10 lite is supposedly getting Face unlock according to some leaks.
Hopefully this means that the face unlock feature will also make its way to the flagship phone... Mate 10 and Mate 10 pro.
I would almost bet money that the Mate 10 (Pro) doesn't get Face Unlock. Huawei is notoriously bad and just simply random with updates that add features to current phones if they don't mention these features during the introduction of the phones.
I don't really care about face unlock to be honest. It just bothers me that I spent 600+ on a flagship phone and it doesn't get the newest features while cheaper phones get them simply because they are newer. I've had a lot of Huawei / Honors phones over the last few years and while it is forgivable for medium range phones, it is simply unexpectable for flagship phones that cost as much as Samsungs, HTCs etc.
All of these companies provide consistent improvements in their software (see for example the S8 with the advanced "always-on" display - meanwhile I am almost sure that we will never get an improved software update for the "always-on" display). Even the cheaper OnePlus improve their software regularly (see the OnePlus 5T with multiple updates for their camera and updates for the Face Unlock).
The Mate 9 had almost no updates that improved anything, let alone Google security updates. I am willing to give Huawei one last chance, but they better improve their update policy a lot this time around (meaning Google security updates, Android updates as well as improving features such as face unlock, better "always-on" display etc.). Yes, the hardware is excellent on this phone - but it is simply not enough in this day and age when even companies like "OnePlus" provide better and more comprehensive update policies for less money.
I hope time will prove me wrong and we will get good updates as well as "face unlock", but so far I really doubt it.
Stop to buy these phones then..

Do you really think your post is constructive? Don't think so anyway
Huawei Pakistan confirmed that the Mate 10 lite will get it.
It would be nice but I rather see Huawei keeping the promise of monthly security updates and I wanna see some polishing of the Mate 10 software.

Are you from China ?

Is it still worth it?

So, being the phone nerd that I am, I have no idea how I never knew about this phone till now. So! Id like to ask all of you, who have the phone, is it still worth it? Are you happy with your purchase? Did you switch to the ROG Phone 3 or the Note 20 Ultra? Hows the OS? I like to customize my phone alot so, remove any and all bloatware, root the phone and perhaps install a custom rom, etc. Is any of that possible on this phone? Ill be honest! I really just want this phone for its 7.1 inch screen. I previously had the Huawei Mate 20 X so, this looks like a very welcome upgrade. So what are your thoughts on this phone, please share?
I have BS3Pro china device. flash to global rom and this is my opinions.
What I like about this phone :
- Huge display for read cartoon/ watch some video
- beautiful 90hz screen that make my cartoon reading feel great when scroll down to next page
- Great gaming experience here
- Battery is great (if not do a "lot" of gaming) (pubg 90fps can do around 4hr before phone died)
- Fast battery charging from 0% to 100% with around 1hr
What I'm not impressive about this phone:
- Camera focusing(not autofocus) is not done they work. miss focus 80% of time
- Speaker is not loud enough. if you need to race a sound with noisy place, You will hear little sound of your phone.
- Speaker quality is decent. Not great but not worse either
- fingerprint scanner will not work if your screen have a little dirty or oily
The worst part of this phone:
- Software update(Global rom) is very slow. This phone still have miui11 and the last update is probably 2 month ago(if i'm not wrong)
- Lack of community.
- No hope for custom rom.
Summary. this is a good phone that used by few people(I assum). That's make the manufacturer lower the priority in term of software update. and blackshark company didn't have space for custom rom for their phone.
You can still unlock bootloader and install custom recovery for rooting your phone. But no custom rom were made for this phone here.
If you don't mind about custom rom, frequent software update, lack of community to discuss. this is a good phone if your prefer big one.
Phone would be worth it $400 now. ZERO updates coming, xiaomi has abandoned the BS3pro, especially the global model
I love it. If you're rooted you can customise it using swift installer, and a few other apps that work like the audio headquarters, viper, and superstatus bar, CustoMiuizer, etc. I use the Samsung notifications shade etc.
Though I wish there were ways to update the phone since I can't get update to install since I'm rooted.
Other than that. I love it. Just wish it had 120hz
tried any GSIs?
like Mitku01 said, the phone is great. You don't find a better phone with a big screen.
Global support is bad. My Black Shark 3 Pro is still on security patch 2020-06-05.
