I've installed a new ROM that has TWRP, however I need to reinstall my CWM backup to recover my old SMS and Call logs and my "safe" Original Rom.
I see that TWRP not restore CWM backups (didn't knew that), so I was trying to install again an old ROM that use CWM, but is not allowing me to enter in Fastbootmode once everytime I try t do that the TWRP starts......
What can I do to restore my Safe Backup?
Help!!!!!!!!
Instructions
Make sure that your SM-G850W has the Lollipop bootloader and modem (The last installed stock ROM must be 5.0.2).
Flash TWRP recovery via Odin.
Boot to TWRP recovery (Vol UP + Home + Power).
Optional: Do nandroid backup
Wipe data / Factory Reset
Install the ROM (CM zip).
Install the Google Apps.
After you wipe the data
how exactly do you install the ROM (CM zip))
Do i do it via Odin?
Just need clarification on that step...
After you install twrp, you can make backups and also install software.
As suggested you better make a backup in TWRP it's called a nandroid backup. After that you have to do a factory reset, thats the wipe in TWRP. Then you can go to the install button, and choose the rom.zip. For Cyanogenmod you also need to install Gapps, because its not included in ROM.
But to be clear: everything is in TWRP.
Hi. I tried rooting my phone a few months ago, and installed TWRP and ashwin007's CyanogenMod. The rooting seems to have failed (I think I accidentally wiped something when I installed TWRP/CyanogenMod/GApps, causing me to lose the root or something. I'm not exactly sure what went wrong), but I managed to install TWRP v2.8.7.0 and CyanogenMod (on the 10th August nightly) successfully. Now I want to try rooting my phone again properly (with superuser access), and change my CROM to probably http://forum.xda-developers.com/one...m-kernel-unofficial-cyanogenmod-13-0-t3375221 (This also includes a newer version of TWRP right?)(I also want GApps!). I'm not sure which order I should do these tasks.
Should I just follow the instructions in the link?:
Installation instructions (for first-time installation):
First, perform a backup of your existing setup, and then perform a clean install (wipe /data and /system; TWRP is recommended).
If you plan on using encryption with this ROM, then flash the custom TWRP build in the Downloads section below before flashing the ROM. This custom TWRP build is needed if you want to be able to access data encrypted using this ROM while booted into recovery. Otherwise, you will not be able to access your encrypted data while your phone is in recovery mode.
Then, flash the ROM, flash a Google apps package, SuperSU if you want root access (ONLY v2.65 OR HIGHER), and then reboot.

A few things I want to clarify:
1. The SuperSU installation page says it requires a rooted device. As stated earlier, I'm not 100% sure whether my device is rooted or not. What should I do? Root my device (What's the best way also, KingoRoot or something else?), then follow quoted instructions?
2. For the clean install I just wipe /data and /system? Not System, Data, Cache & Dalvik?
3. After I finish wiping and installing all of those, is there any way I can restore all of my apps and associated data that I had? (I've heard something about using TitaniumBackup?)
From what I've read, I probably should:
Use my TWRP to backup all the other things (system and stuff)->
Root phone (using KingoRoot?) ->
Download and use Titanium Backup to backup Apps ->
Wipe /data and /system (or System, Data, Cache & Dalvik?)->
Flash new custom TWRP (Can I flash it using my old TWRP? The TWRP official website says you can do this with TWRP versions v2.8.4 and above, mine is v2.8.7, but that was for the official TWRP)[or should I use the android SDK tools bootloader thing?] ->
Flash new custom ROM with TWRP ->
Flash GApps with TWRP ->
Flash SuperSU with TWRP ->
Reboot phone->
Restore apps with Titanium Backup
Could someone confirm? I don't want to brick my phone Thanks a lot!
Just follow the guides for rooting and custom Recovery's. If you follow the steps you won't have any problems. First thing you must do is update your twrp. Assuming you have already unlocked your bootloader.
I tried to install custom rom on Lenovo Tab A3300-H (Android 4.4.2):
1. Rooted device
2. Installed TWRP by flashify
3. Created full system and data backup
4. Formatted system, cache and data
5. Started rom installing
Installation is stuck at: Flashing file 1 of 1
I have backup on sd card. Can I restart device and restore backup?
EDIT: The device has stopped flashing the ROM and stuck to the TWRP logo, not responding to different combinations of VOL +/- and POWER
If backups were made by TWRP and TWRP still is working you should be able to restore the backups by TWRP.
Thank you. I will try to restore the backup after the battery drains
Data restored, device works.
As the title says I always get a bootloop into recovery when the restore process finishes.
I tried everything, flashing the same rom as in the backup before restoring, however it never boots normally.
As I am on a stock MIUI 13 I flashed the stock image and then restored the backup, still a bootloop into recovery.
No matter what I do I am unable to restore my TWRP backup, so every time I want to try a new ROM I end up reinstalling everything from scratch.
Is it because my data is encrypted, or dynamic partitions? This never happened with any of my previous phones, is it possible to restore a backup on Mi10?

Backups and restore on the TWRP with some phone models does not work correctly either because it does not decrypt or is too old compared to the rom or you try to restore an older rom version on a more recent rom and sometimes the reverse also does not work (because of the system).
Try a more recent Twrp (just in case) but anyway the restoration will not be done with a more recent Twrp.
If you are on MIUI micloud works relatively well but obviously you can only restore the data not the system.

try flashing miui 12 rom first, then restore twrp back up (format data also before restoring)
and chose the latest version of twrp for android 11 or 12 (depends on your Rom)
maybe it will work
