Sprint phones are SIM card locked to Sprint.
Sent via open market LG US998 V30/V30+
No worries
I believe the actual hardware of the sim is not compatible unfortunately.
Not sure why people are digging up old threads, but to SIM card unlock your LS998 use Frankenstein to convert to official carrier unlocked US998.

SIM card unlocked equals Network unlocked.
Plus with US998 you get latest KDZ when released.

Activate on which carrier?
If another carrier than Sprint you just put in their SIM card, like AT&T.
If on Sprint, you need to activate on Sprint before doing any changes. If using on Sprint there's no need to SIM card unlock, until you're ready to use on another carrier or if you're wanting to unlock the bootloader. But now we're getting into another topic.

yes, I will follow the root and upgrade method thread for sprint. I was wondering do all roms have the 360 wallpaper option?

Can we unlock so v30 of other carriers will work for at&t? I saw that v30 for other carriers such as T-Mobile and sprint is cheaper.
Verizon and U.S.Cellular LG V30 will work already on any other carrier. They are SIM card unlocked.
T-Mobile will SIM card unlock if you pay off the phone. But depends on which carrier you want to use it on. T-Mobile doesn't have CDMA, so no Verizon for T-Mobile H932.
If you want to confirm if another carrier's phone will work on your network, go to https://willmyphonework.net/
Tmobile has a page that list requirements that must be met before they will unlock it for you https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-1588

You can unlock T-mobile locked V30 and use it with AT&T because both are GSM phones. However, you can't do the same with Sprint devices because Sprint is a CDMA network. But, some devices have both GSM and CDMA capabilities. So if you plan un getting a Sprint phone, make sure it can support GSM networks (SIM cards as well).
You can check here which are CDMA networks and will probably not work with AT&T SIM cards https://www.unlockunit.com/blog/cdma-networks/

Yes. If you have Verizon VS996 or carrier unlocked US998. It doesn't even have to be an "original" VS996 or US998, but any North American variant CONVERTED to VS996 or US998.
But why are you resurrecting a YEAR OLD thread?
Some of the answers on here are way outdated. Now I have to spend time correcting them. Arggggh. People stop digging up old threads!

Yes you can. It's called Frankenstein and I wrote the Guide. Any North America V30 (EXCEPT for T-Mobile H932) can be converted to any of the carrier unlocked models.
Favorite is to convert SPRINT LS998 to some other variant, like carrier unlocked US998.
You can get mint 128GB LS998 v30+ for less than $310 with FREE SHIPPING. Convert it to US998 v30+ with all the US998 bands and fastboot flash commands. PLUS, it's now carrier unlocked/SIM card unlocked.
Bootloader unlock it using WTF, root it, boom ready to go.
Not your fault you had a wrong "November 2017" answer brought to light now in November 2018. Somebody dug up an old thread and the information you gave at the time was correct. But lots of development in the past year. We now have Frankenstein and WTF.
So my phone has been running great since the conversion and still flys on ATT LTE, however I am a Mobile rep and I switch carriers on occasion, hence why I was wondering if the US998 modems actually enables the 800mhz CDMA band and allows me to use the verizon LTE bands.
Im not new to flashing and trying things out, and I can easily get my hands on a verizon android sim (yes there is a difference) to test anything.
Thoughts?

The US998 is the "carrier unlocked" version, and many people have used US998 on Verizon, so there's no question the US998 has that band.
Converting any other North America phone to that should let you have all those bands of the US998.

Ill have to test APN settings and clean boot with a verizon sim then. Ive tested a sim and it pulled phone number, but was still looking for signal.
Try making a backup in TWRP, and then flash JUST the Verizon system partition and see what you get.
rild is the daemon that talks to the modem, and Verizon may be slightly different.

Im sorry my English is not very good. But is unbelievable that H931 doesn't show UMTS 900 band on official description and doing the Frankenstein conversion you can add that UMTS 900 band. So it means that is disabled wow.
Another question. If the H931 AT&T model is not unlocked and I do the convertion then will be unlocked? Or I have to buy the unlock code for the IMEI???

OP, can you confirm that you can use LTE band 13 on your H931 (AT&T) Frankenstein phone? I converted my VS996 to US998 10b, unlocked bootloader, updated to 20e (KDZ), and rooted with magisk 17.3. I can use T-Mobile VoLTE but can't connect to their LTE band 12. I've tried the US998 Hidden Menu hack by using T-Mobile's LTE band menu and selecting LTE bands 2, 4, 12, 66, and 71. When I leave only band 12 selected I only get 3G or 2G EDGE. Maybe T-Mobile doesn't like my phone's IMEI as it's from Verizon. On AT&T, I never got stable LTE because my old G4 was from T-Mobile, and it always dropped to 3G after a while. If hardware isn't the issue then it leads me to believe T-Mobile whitelists only their branded devices for band 12.

I get the success message when clicking on band 13 in the hidden menu. I am using the latest stock US998 rom. Its given me the best reception and still runs fluid as can be.
Also, did you just insert your sim card into the phone from your previous device or did you manually enter your IMEI to your phone number in your T-Mobile account? Is the sim card brand new or several years old? Not being nosey or questioning your ability, just making sure your device properly activated on T-Mobiles network for best network performance. I don't think T-Mobile is picky with verizon IMEIs as 99% of verizon phones are sim unlocked out of the box and T-mobile likes to advertise towards verizon customers.

My T-Mobile service is actually through Tracfone. I activated it on a G5 H830 (TMO), and then moved over to a V20 H910 (AT&T). I did notice poorer reception on the V20 because I rarely locked into band 12. I always had excellent reception on the G5 and frequent band 12. I tried this SIM just now on a Canadian G6 H873 from Videotron, went into hidden menu *#546368#*873# -> Field test -> Modem settings -> LTE Band Selection -> Band 12. I instantly got Band 12 locked in, but went back to Automatic mode: (Field Test -> Network Mode -> Automatic). This band selection menu leaves you locked to that LTE band only, and you can't select multiple, so I went back and got Band 4 which is stronger in my house. If it were rooted, there's a hidden LTE menu that allows you to select multiple bands (through "tmo only" and iot menu, search LTEBand and BandSelection in shortcut master lite when rooted). Doing this on my VS996 -> US998 it falls back to 3G as it can't find Band 12 for some reason. I've tried wiping the modemst1 and modemst2 partitions to no avail. I'm now on the AS998 (ACG or C-Spire?) 20b KDZ. It should be identical to the LS998 (Sprint) modem and supports bands 2, 4, and 12. I kept TWRP recovery by not flashing the recovery in LGUP, INSTANTLY GO INTO FACTORY RESET (Power + Vol up) or else recovery will be wiped, flashed magisk 17.3, Disable_Dm-Verity_ForceEncrypt, lg-rctd-disabler, erased modemst1/2, and booted up. The hidden menu in the AS998 has all bands greyed out in the hidden menu only accessible through root, and the LTE band selection menu reports FAILED on all bands, so it's locked to the stock bands of the AS998/LS998. I'll report later on my findings.
TWRP Terminal command to wipe modemst1 and modemst2:
Code:
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/modemst1 bs=16384
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/modemst2 bs=16384

I want band 12, I just found it amazing that OP has band 13 and CDMA on his H931 -> US998. Mainly because the H931 is GSM and shouldn't come with an ESN/pESN, just IMEI and MEID. And due to Verizon being picky about devices. I had an RS988 G5 and that didn't work well with them.

No one else has said this, in fact the opposite.
I'm not talking about T-mobile at all, as they have put specific requirements on their band 12 due toWifi calling, etc.
But many are using us998 on T-mobile, whether converted or original.
That doesn't prove you don't have band 12. Also, ATT no longer calls band 17 as 17. On all newer phones, it's band 12, as 17 is a subset of 12. If you look at the H931 specs it says "12" , not 17. Their 12 is fully interoperable with T-mobile band 12 and includes 17.
Dear Friends,
Very quick question, searched and searched and can't obviously find the answer to this question... But, dowsing the Verizon V30 come factory SIM unlocked like all other Verizon phones? Or does it need to be SIM unlocked? If is does need to be unlocked, what method is it to do so? Buying an unlock code or requesting Verizon to do it?
Finally, if it does come out unlocked out of the box like other Verizon phones, have any of you been using it on AT&T? How's your experience? What's missing?
Thank you!

Yes, Verizon phones are SIM card unlocked/carrier unlocked -- since 2012.
But Verizon said they were going to start locking them for 90 days to prevent theft from stores and delivery trucks. Not sure if they've started that yet.
You can always convert it to carrier unlocked US998 and not worry about it.
That's what people do with the carrier locked Sprint LS998. Just turn it into carrier unlocked model US998.
I run my US998 on AT&T. See the Frankenstein thread.
ChazzMatt has given you the correct advice here (as per usual).
Thank you for your response bud! So does that mean that much like the Samsung phones, the hardware across all carrier phones is the same, it's just the firmware and etc that needs to be changed?
Does the unlocked firmware unlock additional bands?
Can you point me to this thread/guide you mentioned? Thank you!

Even though it says LS998 to US998, it's really for ANY North America variant, like Verizon VS996. Everyone has done it.
It will change your bands to the open market LG US998 V30.

I've been to Brazil six times since 2007.
Yes, LG V30 will work in Brazil, especially if you
1) get one of the North America variants listed below OR
2) even better buy H930DS.... (If you only need in Brazil)
You mostly need LTE bands 3 & 7 for Claro, Vivo, Oi, TIM, Nextel, etc.. But as of 2016, some Brazilian carriers have also started using newer LTE band 28.
If you buy any North America variant (except for T-MOBILE H932, stay away from that), you can convert to carrier unlocked US998 via Frankenstein method and have bands 3 & 7. Or to keep it simple, buy US998 (which is carrier unlocked and has fastboot flash commands, if you ever need them).
LS998, H931, H933, VS996, AS998, US998 are ones you want to look for.
You will be converting to US998, if not already US998.
http://www.lg.com/us/cell-phones/lg-US998-Unlocked-v30
US998
CDMA: 800 MHz
2G GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
3G UMTS (HSPA):850/900/1900/2100 MHz
4G LTE Bands: 1/2/3/4/5/7/12(17)/13/20/25/66
OR even better buy H930DS (DUAL SIM V30+), if you can find it -- if it's for Brazil and not for U.S. use. It has LTE bands 3, 7 and 28 -- and you can use dual SIM cards, which is popular in Brazil. Plus, it has fastboot flash commands, if you ever need them. IF you buy that, make sure it has "DS" in the name. Because there's also plain H930, H930G, etc.
H930DS:
2G GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
3G UMTS (HSPA): 850/900/1900/2100 MHz +TD-SCDMA 1900MHz (B39) / 2000MHz (B34)
4G LTE: 1/3/5/7/8/20/28 + TD-LTE2600 (B38), TD-LTE1900 (B39), TD-LTE2300 (B40), TD-LTE2500 (B41)
However, H939DS -- while perfect for Brazil -- is missing major LTE bands for U.S. Does NOT have LTE bands 2, 4, 5, 12.

Be careful of the hidden menu on US998 for LTE bands. Choosing one will LOCK you onto that band and it can't change. I had to factory reset mine one time after doing that. There's also another fix, which I can't remember right now.
Okay so any idea. What can I do.
Hello all. I have an LG V30 unlocked from AT&T. I am currently in the market for some different phone service. I was looking to switch to T-Mobile. However, when I went to their BYOD Check Compatibility page and typed in my IMEI, it said my device was not compatible. Will I still be able to use T-Mobile, just miss out on a few features, or is it no use to try and get T-Mobile service? I have checked that my phone supports all of T-Mobile's bands save for band 71. I figured all I needed was a GSM device and a new SIM card. Am I unable to switch to T-Mobile, can I switch with limited features, or does it operate at full support on T-Mobile, just an error with the website? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If your AT&T H931 phone is actually carrier unlocked, it will work with U.S. T-Mobile.

Thank you for your quick response. I will probably see if I can switch to T-Mobile now. I am still curious though. Why would T-mobile still register my device incompatible? Is it an error with my IMEI or the unlock? Is it something on T-Mobile's end?

AT&T H931 is normally carrier locked to AT&T. So, normally it won't work on any SIM card not affiliated with AT&T. T-Mobile knows that. However, you say it's now carrier unlocked. But there's no way for them to know that, just by the IMEI.

That makes more sense now. I can confirm that my phone is unlocked because I have actually used it with T-Mobile MVNOs in the past. I just didn't know if a full blown T-Mobile card would work in it, being scared of the website check and all. You've helped me to clear all this up and I can't thank you enough.
