Verizon V30 SIM Unlocked? - LG V30 Questions & Answers

Dear Friends,
Very quick question, searched and searched and can't obviously find the answer to this question... But, dowsing the Verizon V30 come factory SIM unlocked like all other Verizon phones? Or does it need to be SIM unlocked? If is does need to be unlocked, what method is it to do so? Buying an unlock code or requesting Verizon to do it?
Finally, if it does come out unlocked out of the box like other Verizon phones, have any of you been using it on AT&T? How's your experience? What's missing?
Thank you!

Yes, Verizon phones are SIM card unlocked/carrier unlocked -- since 2012.
But Verizon said they were going to start locking them for 90 days to prevent theft from stores and delivery trucks. Not sure if they've started that yet.
You can always convert it to carrier unlocked US998 and not worry about it.
That's what people do with the carrier locked Sprint LS998. Just turn it into carrier unlocked model US998.
I run my US998 on AT&T. See the Frankenstein thread.

ChazzMatt has given you the correct advice here (as per usual).

Thank you for your response bud! So does that mean that much like the Samsung phones, the hardware across all carrier phones is the same, it's just the firmware and etc that needs to be changed?
Does the unlocked firmware unlock additional bands?
Can you point me to this thread/guide you mentioned? Thank you!

Even though it says LS998 to US998, it's really for ANY North America variant, like Verizon VS996. Everyone has done it.
It will change your bands to the open market LG US998 V30.

US998
CDMA: 800 MHz CDMA
2G GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
3G UMTS (HSPA):850/900/1900/2100 MHz
4G LTE Bands: 1/2/3/4/5/7/12(17)/13/20/25/66

Does anyone know he model numbers for the variants yet?

I'm interested in the straight up, non-carrier version of the North American model of the LG G5. Not the carrier version, that will surely come pre-loaded with useless carrier apps. I made that mistake with the Galaxy S6 last year, and yeah I got my free year of Netflix, at the cost of my sanity dealing with invasive pre-loaded apps.
This year I want to buy a LG G5 in it's simplified glory, unlocked.
Does anyone know specifically where I can buy what I'm looking for? I don't want to buy a random G5 on eBay, and then have it turn out to be like a T mobile version or something.
B&H is advertising an unlocked North America LG G5 (model: RS988) on their site: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1239314-REG/lg_lgrs988_ausasv_g5_h850_32gb_smartphone.html
One caveat, they state that the phone's hardware supports North American carriers' GSM and CDMA networks, but they also state that its up to the carrier to allow activation of the device on their networks. Just because it supports Verizon's LTE bands and CDMA, doesn't mean they will let you use it.
Also, it's too early to tell whether or not the bootloader will be unlockable, which is a requirement to get root on Android 6.0/Marshmallow.
Canadian Model H831
LG website shows Canadian model: LGH831
Att us - h820
this is one thing I hate about LG, there is so many different models. Why cant they just slim the models?

Does anyone who has a dual SIM version H860 or H860N or any other knows if when using only 1 SIM you have the no SIM icon on top (because of the second SIM empty slot)?
Thanks

I have the H860N. I only use the SIM1 slot and there's no such empty SIM icon at the top.

Not sure if RS988 is equal to US992.

No. Just like AT&T and T-mobile use HSPA as backup bands when LTE is not available, Verizon uses CDMA. The T-mobile H932 doesn't have CDMA. While you CAN enable Verizon LTE band 13 for instance via the "hidden menu" trick on the T-mobile H932, you can't enable CDMA.
The phone that would work for you is the U.S. Cellular V30 or V30+. It has the CDMA and LTE bands you need for Verizon.
Next week, the "open market" official carrier unlocked LG V30 US998 will be released and that will also have all the Verizon bands you need. It's basically the same model as the U.S. Cellular but will also be eligible for bootloader unlock, root, etc. If you don't care about those things, then go ahead and get the U.S. Cellular model US998. It's the "unofficial" carrier unlocked model, also numbered US998. It has GSM/CDMA/HSPA/LTE.

LG V30 + unlock

Please I need to unlock LG V30 +, if you unlock it or know where do let me know.
Thanks
Define unlock. Bootloader unlocked or carrier unlocked?
Mine's already carrier unlocked. Many V30/V30+ are, like U.S.Cellular model, etc. Even Verizon's can be used with other carriers.
The famous "carrier locked" are the problematic Sprint V30/V30+. (I don't know why people mess with Sprint phones at all, if they don't intend to use them on Sprint. There's always so much drama with Sprint phones.)
So, what do you have?
_____
If you're referring to bootloader unlock, only certain V30/V30+ variants have that.
So, what do you have?

LG V30+ LS998
I want it carrier unlocked so that I can use it on other carriers.
This is my first LG Phone, I have always used HTC Phones and never had issues unlocking HTC Sprint phones.

It's just there's already carrier unlocked V30/V30+ phones, you don't have to mess with locked Sprint phones. I have two V30 and one V30+, all officially carrier unlocked. Paid average $597.33 for each.
U.S.Cellular V30/V30+ models also unlocked, but just won't be eligible for bootloader unlock. Has same CDMA/HSPA/LTE bands as the open market LG US998.
The South Korea models via eBay also work U.S. carriers like T-Mobile and AT&T and get quick updates. They already have Oreo.
Anyway, good luck.

Does your phone asl for network unlock codes or is there an app called "Device Unlock"?
Try inserting a non-accepted SIM card and place a call with it and let us know the message your phone displays on the screen.

No worries
I believe the actual hardware of the sim is not compatible unfortunately.
Not sure why people are digging up old threads, but to SIM card unlock your LS998 use Frankenstein to convert to official carrier unlocked US998.
CONVERTING ANY NORTH AMERICA V30/V30+ (except T-mobile H932) TO US998 OREO

Plus with US998 you get latest KDZ when released.

Activate on which carrier?
If another carrier than Sprint you just put in their SIM card, like AT&T.
If on Sprint, you need to activate on Sprint before doing any changes. If using on Sprint there's no need to SIM card unlock, until you're ready to use on another carrier or if you're wanting to unlock the bootloader. But now we're getting into another topic.

Unlocked AT&T LG V30 on T-Mobile

Hello all. I have an LG V30 unlocked from AT&T. I am currently in the market for some different phone service. I was looking to switch to T-Mobile. However, when I went to their BYOD Check Compatibility page and typed in my IMEI, it said my device was not compatible. Will I still be able to use T-Mobile, just miss out on a few features, or is it no use to try and get T-Mobile service? I have checked that my phone supports all of T-Mobile's bands save for band 71. I figured all I needed was a GSM device and a new SIM card. Am I unable to switch to T-Mobile, can I switch with limited features, or does it operate at full support on T-Mobile, just an error with the website? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your quick response. I will probably see if I can switch to T-Mobile now. I am still curious though. Why would T-mobile still register my device incompatible? Is it an error with my IMEI or the unlock? Is it something on T-Mobile's end?

AT&T H931 is normally carrier locked to AT&T. So, normally it won't work on any SIM card not affiliated with AT&T. T-Mobile knows that. However, you say it's now carrier unlocked. But there's no way for them to know that, just by the IMEI.

That makes more sense now. I can confirm that my phone is unlocked because I have actually used it with T-Mobile MVNOs in the past. I just didn't know if a full blown T-Mobile card would work in it, being scared of the website check and all. You've helped me to clear all this up and I can't thank you enough.
