just install an APK.
Phone will ask you if you would like to allow the app you opened the APK with to install APKs.

System Settings - Apps - then choose the App you want to open and install APKs with (ex. Chrome) scroll down to "install unknown Apps"

I installed an APK today but just installed with the notification that this APK does not require permissions.

Not sure I like this approach. Just because I want to install one specific app through Chrome doesn't mean I always want to do it without prompting. The S7's approach of "only this time" seems a lot more secure. Not everything needs to be "improved."

Found it!
Just found it today.
Settings>>Apps>> 3 Dot menu (upper right corner)>> Special Access>> Install unknown apps (very last one on the list)
Go forth and install!

Hi,
I followed the above settings and enabled Drive to on. When I tried to install an app from GD, I received a message Staging App and then alert 'There was a problem parsing the package. I decided to remove an old android app from my phone and tried to reinstall the same version and I still get the warning.
Galaxy S8+ Sprint Network with Oreo update.
ANy help would be appreciated.

[Q] Not able to install APK

I have "Allow Unknown Sources" turned on, and I have tried downloading some APK's such as the new Gmail and I am unable to install them. When I go to launch it I get a window that comes up that says "Failed to open the Remote Assistance Invitation. Incorrect Remote Assistance Invitation format" My Note 2 is stock (no roms) with just Nova launcher. I have tried other APK's without success.
Any ideas?
May I ask where you're downloading said apps from?

I renamed original gmail.apk to gmail.apk.bak and reboot.
Then downloaded the new apk from your post and it works fine

Use the second mirror download. Mirror1 was not an apk. File but mirror2 worked fine.

If you are getting the Remote Assistance error every time you try and install an APK directly, it may be that Remote Assistance has somehow been set as the default installer. No idea how that could happen, but to clear it try going to Settings->Application Manager->All then look for Remote Assistance app, select it, scroll down and "Clear defaults" under "Launch by default".

[Q] Google Play & Device Compatibility Unlock

Hi all,
I wish to try certain apps from Google Play but they show as "Device not compatible" and won't let me install the app.
Is there a way to bypass this?
Thanks.

What you can do is what as known as sideloading the app's apk file. To do this first you will need to find the .apk file for the app you want to install by searching online (Only search for free apps online never sideload paid apps without first having purchased the app and/or contacting the developer of the app first) then once you have the app's apk file transfer it to your phone. Once it's on your phone make sure that the install from unknown sources option is checked under System Settings -> Security -> Unknown Sources. After you have done that navigate on your phone to where you transferred the app that you wanted to install's apk file then click on the app and it will ask you if you want to install the app. After the app is finished installing you are good to go and the app should be ready for you to use. Let me know if you still have questions!
Thanks for the reply.
I have tried sideloading but usually if the app gets updated regularly or requires the most recent update to work (ie. King's Bounty) that is where I come unstuck.
Just trying to find a way to "trick" Google Play to think that my phone (S Advance) is compatible with all apps.

The other options you could try is using the app Market Helper or Market Enabler that allows you to spoof your device and trick's the Play Store into letting you download apps that the Play Store claims are "incompatible with your device".

[Q] How to disable Playstore Updates?

Hi guys,
just got my new phone and unfortunately i had to realize, that there are some apps i cant install.
I know that this issue depends on my Playstore, so i want to install a custom playstore with no restrictions.
Did this many times on other phones and never got problems.
But this time there is a problem:
I can install the modded version of the playstore without any problems. But it self-updates every time and i cant do anything against.
In the Last android versions there was a "Market Updater" App, which you could just freeze to avoid this.
But in my Android 4.2.2 theres no such app.
Any Ideas how i can prevent the Playstore from updating?

Dude you sure about that, I mean if you have knowledge how to install custom play store than you must have the basic knowledge from where to disable the auto update feature.
goto play store>settings>Auto update apps select here none.
After this you will have to manually update all your apps that you want.
Sorry if I misinterpreted your query..
Press thanks button on the left side of my post.

that's not for the update for the playstore itself, that's for the apps that you download with it

i think you can just download 1 of the versions in the bottom of the post, and just rename it to vending.apk or phonesky.apk and push it to /system/app (just replace the original vending.apk or phonesky.apk) (and backup your original file)
hm...but how? if i click on one of those links i get referred to another Posts where it only shows MD5 sums

which phone do you use by the way? cause it could also be that the apps you miss are incompatible with the phone.
there is however, an app that also appears to be able to remove the restrictions (i think with a proxy of some kind), this app is mostly used for apps unavailable in certain countries.

Q: Play Store not working on new tablet Teclast x80h

So, I purchased this tablet: Teclast x80h as advertised from manifacturer with dualboot Windows 8.1 and Android 4.4.4.
So far I can say Windows is working fine, haven't found a problem with it.
But When I booted the Android I face a common problem in the Google Play: No connection and the button retry.
I searched google and youtube and tried most of the things people wrote there.
1. checking the auto time/date update
2. the timezone
3. deleting all cache from the app
4. I rooted the device using: Kingroot and iRoot and tried to edit the hosts file. But in it there only was this line: 127.0.0.1 localhost - so I had nothing to change there. Tried to edit it anyway with total comander with granted root priv. - I receive "re-mount error".
5. I also tried to fix the issue with a fix from Frontier given here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/and...8-air-3g-tablet-9-7-2048x1536-t2913035/page43 , but sadly it didn't solve the issue for me.
Any other insight you can give me is welcome.
Thanks in advance to whoever comes to help.

I have the same problem and have tried all morning to fix it. I have managed to root and have tried following Frontiers instructions but just get the same problem at the end of it.
I also found it impossible to delete Play Store using settings as it is a system app, but managed it using an app called "system app remover". Then replaced it with the apk from Frontier but still no luck!

Have just found this, Maybe we have to wait for an update. But as they come in Chinese am not sure I will recognise it!!
http://bbs.teclast.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=262279&highlight=x80h+play+store
Applied fix:
with root browser:
Edit /system/build.prop to:
ro.product.device=picassowifi
ro.product.local.language=en
ro.product.locale.region=US
Now Google Play is crashing just before displaying the content ofthe store. Even got it working for few minutes after reinstalling Google Play app and Google Play Services, but after tying to download some app from it it started crashing again. I'm open for suggestions :>
I have those settings in as well, but Play store not working at all. I will try deleting them both and reinstalling

okay, guys, that's how I fixed it:
Fix for Google Playstore on Teclast x80h dualboot
requirements:
For Rooting the tablet:
iRoot
Kingroot
First you run Kingroot - all is in chinese, but it's pretty straight forward deal.
Then you run iRoot and finish the job.
Then you need the following apks:
superSU
root manager
uninstaller (root)
link2SD
google play latest
google play services latest
All this is available on APKmirror.
Copy them somewhere on the tablet (I used the Download folder)
step 1. Install superSU - to be able to grant root privileges to the other apps.
step 2. install root manager
step 3. open it and edit /system/build.prop to:
ro.product.device=picassowifi
ro.product.local.language=en
ro.product.locale.region=US
Then save the changes.
step 4. uninstall the Google Play app that came preinstalled with the tablet. (You can do it with any root uninstaller.)
step 5. install the Google Play apk
step 6. install the Google Play services apk and reboot
step 7. install Link2SD apk and run it. Find the google play app in the list press it and when it opens choose "action" and then make it a system app.
step 8. Reboot the tablet.
Enter the credentials in for your google account and then download any app you want :>
Hope that will help someone. Took me lots of time to figure it out.
Took info from several sources here on XDA and from youtube.
All credit goes to them.
I had done all of the above yesterday and still it didnt work. But today I got a Google Play Services update via Mobo Market and Play Store worked after that!
Got the same tablet and of course play store didn't work. Expected this would require extensive hacks, but apparently there is an update as soon as you connect to internet. Just click update app on the bottom left and then you'll see two buttons (all on Chinese), click the left one and it will download the update for you.

yea, when I received it, that update was downloading a broken zip file and it was giving error. That's why I had to do all that to fix it. Now I'm happy with the tablet.

Help needed in unlocking ACT Stream 4K TV Box

Recently i got a 4K Android Stream box for my network plan from my ISP - ACT Fibernet in india
I have disconnected the connection due to relocation and have no ACT in the new place
The issue is the Android Box only runs in the ACT network and doesnt work in other network
Is there a way to make the android box work in other networks?
Or flash a Android TV os and make it standalone ?
As the new box has good specs and supports Steam Link and other features
New to this android TV experience. Any help would do.. :fingers-crossed:
Tech Specs
Operating System : Android 9
Main Chipset : Hi Silicon 3798M V200
RAM : 2GB
Flash : 8GB

WiFi : Dual band (2.4G & 5G) & 802.11 ac
Ports Available : 2 USB ports, 1 Ethernal port, 1 HDMI port, 1 AV output, 1 SD crad slot
Me too looking for the same info.
Hey me to..
when they have network issue.. this is useless.
need same info
I need the same info too.. is there a way to root or install custom rom like how you do traditional android tv boxes?
I have not found the way to unlock it, but there is a work around to use it without ACT network.
----------------------
Install below two apps by sideloading the apk files.
1. Sideload Launcher
2. Launch on Boot
Open Launch on boot and mark 'Sideload launcher' as the app to boot.
---------------------
if you press accidentally home button while NOT using ACT network,
you can then also use 'Google play store' button in the remote to select the app 'Launch on boot' and open 'sideload Launcher' app.
Thanks
SK
Thank you for the sideload launcher idea and it works as expected.
I wish we have an option to install a custom launcher on this as its the Act Launcher that is causing problem when its not connected to an Act Network.
I am looking for the same - unlock the Android TV from ACT

Were you able to use the ACT TV outside of ACT network? Please let me know. Thanks
Yes I am able to use it as per above launch on boot and sideload launcher method.
How were you able to access the settings or play store when on the non-ACT network page? My device will not let me access them other than the network selection.
I'm able to access play store and other apps right from the day I bought it. On the top banner you have different pages the 2nd one is apps. Select that and scroll down, then you can see play store and other apps you have installed. Only the TV section won't work if the device is not connected to act network.
Regarding Choosing "Launch On Boot" option
How do i select the "Launch On Boot" option, please help.
If you could provide the steps or screenshot, it would be really helpful.
Alternate launchers
All my attempts at installing alternate launcher fail with
Code:
$ adb install ~/Downloads/Taskbar-5.0.1.apk
adb: failed to install /home/reshma/Downloads/Taskbar-5.0.1.apk: Failure [INSTALL_PARSE_FAILED_BAD_PACKAGE_NAME: Package couldn't be installed in /data/app/com.farmerbb.taskbar-NJD_XsOJWsvV-uhprRNnOw==: Package com.farmerbb.taskbar do not allow to install.]
Have you guys been able to find any way to install other launcher apps?
Works!
I managed to make it work with the two apps. I was looking through the Airtel internet TV forum and for that, you can enablee developer mode and use adb bridge to completely remove the associated apps to get a stock OS. However, when I try to click on build option 7 times (and more), it does not work on ACT TV. Has it been disabled on this? How can we enable developer options in this? If anyone can confirm with the same issue.

Thanks for the idea. I installed the app from play store (it installs but it will not show up, you can use voice command to open or from settings). Then, it enables developer options following which I ran adblink to uninstall all apks which began with in.actcorp. One note is that the normal uninstall option in adblink will not enable you to delete all apps, it is required to use pm uninstall -k --user 0 [apk name] in the adb shell to get it done. Once done, the box works, however I'm not too sure on how to get the default android TV launcher to open up, pressing the home button on remote takes to a blank screen only. If someone can help, I'll be grateful!

Wow. This is great progress. Let me try these steps too. What I can tell you now is if you can install apks, try installing atv launcher or open play store using the voice assistant and install a launcher from there. I'll try this on my end too and see what can be done about the default launcher. Earlier, it never used to let us install any launcher apps. Sideload launcher was the only app we could install.

I was able to uninstall all the act apps. But something is blocking launcher apps from installing. Android tv home launcher is what we need to install but can't install it either from adb or from playstore. Do you have some command to force install or do you know where the blocked list is?

Resetting restores all the apps you have uninstalled. Including the act launcher app. Another way that may work is to somehow rename the android home launcher apk to in.actcorp.actottlauncher.
And make it to install over the current app.
