LG v30 H930 no Downloadmodus after Bootloader unlock - LG V30 Questions & Answers

Hello,
After unlocking the boot loader, I wanted to downgrade from firmware V11m to V10F to flash TWRP recovery. The download mode is not working. I tried to flash the LAF partition without success.
"fastboot flash laf laf.img"
The following error was displayed.
"FAILED (remote: Cannot flash this partition in unlocked state)"
How can I restore the download mode?
Can I close the bootloader again?
Everything else works fine. I'm very grateful for help.
Best regards

See the TWRP H930 thread. Lots of people have downgraded and talked about it there.

That's right, but the download mode is Bricked.
The laf partition is responsible for the download mode. This can not be flashed with Fastboot.
My english is not good but google helps me with that.

Then they're downgrading through some other method. I'm pretty sure they discuss it in the thread how they're doing it.

I have already read this thread.
There the Software LGUP is used for the Upgrade. With LGUP, the Phone restarts automatically in Download mode and updates the Firmware.
On Post #9 states, that the Download mode is a Part of the LAF Partition. But the LAF Partition seems to be broken on my Phone. My Phone starts on Fastboot mode instead.
I have extracted the laf_6.bin from the official Firmware and renamed it in laf.img. Then I tried using "fastboot flash laf laf.img" to repair the LAF Partition, without success. Even the previous delete by means of "fastboot erase laf" (took unusually long) brought no success.
How can I just fix the download mode?

I obviously have a very similar problem. My H930 depends on "fastboot format userdata" in the bootlogo. I can not turn it off. I'm not in the download mode. And I can not boot into the system either. Can anyone help me?

Hello Sky67,
I also had this problem.
Connect the phone to your PC. To turn off press the Power- Button and the Vol. down- Button at the same Time until the Phone restarts, now release the Power-Button. You should be in Fastboot now.
Or you start in Recovery mode.
Do not connect the Phone to the PC. Press the Power- Button and the Vol. down- Button at the same time and hold. As soon as the Phone restarts, wait until the first Logo and just release the Power- Button and press it again. The Phone should boot into Recovery.

Hallo patber307, thanks but that does not work. Neither do I get the H930 off, nor do I manage to come in any known way in the download mode or recovery mode.

[Q] HELP PLEASE I can't enter download mode or fastboot but can enter twrp and boot!

HI! I recently upgraded to an lg g3 and I immediately unlocked bootloader, installed twrp, and put a custom ROM on, now I want to switch back to the stock firmware. I don't have a backup of the LAF file and I can't enter fastboot or download mode in order to fix download mode so that I can revert to stock firmware! When I try to enter download mode (holding down top volume key and plugging into PC [I've tried both usb 3.0 and 2.0 with original cable]), lg logo briefly flashes on screen and blue led flickers then the screen is black and the phone shows up on my computer in device manager as Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008. I wiped my phone through twrp and restored my early backup from when I had just rooted it but that didn't change anything. Now the thing is, I have twrp installed and I can enter twrp just and the phone boots into any custom rom just fine.. The phone is rooted and bootloader is unlocked. I need to relock the bootloader and unroot but I can't without download mode. Any help would be really appreciated! I'm on an lg vs985.

i could speculate and say, use the recovery install command line code, changing recovery to laf, but i have no idea if thats ok to do with laf.
try at your own risk.

Ok so the problem is still the same and twrp dissapeared when I tried to use the same process to flash the laf. When I try to enter twrp the blue/green leg starts blinking. I put twrp back on. :crying:

How do people use fastboot commands, whenever I try it just says "waiting for device" and i've tried downloading drivers many times. ADB is working though. How can I restore download mode?

Sorry I don't know, but people are not using fastboot commands because it's not there, Verizon removed or blocked it.

im confused as to what the solution was exactly. if your laf was broken as you said, how did you fix it to pull your own laf?
the laf file i gave you is official, and is exactly the same as the one you posted. verified by md5 comparison.

The solution was just fixing broken download mode without fastboot. Your LAF probably would have worked as well, oops. I had two laf files, one was 32mb, and one was the one from you, I thought I just downloaded it twice and threw away the one you posted thinking it was a duplicate. I went hunting through my phone's files for the laf I backed up when flashing twrp later on after the other laf didn't work. Sorry about that.

Hard bricked P760

Hi guys, after 10 hours of trying to get my P760 to life I finally, as a last resort, decided to open this threadh. Heres the deal, my friend gave me his P760 which was stuck at the boot logo, I firstly tried to fix it with LG mobile support tool but it got stuck at 15% after countless tries. Then I tried fixing it with Lg flash tool but it also gave me some errors "omap factory download fail lg p760". After that I couldnt access S/W mode anymore nor did the phone turn on, only black screen. When I connect it to my pc it just makes sounds of new device connected/disconnected. I tried this fastboot method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292828 but couldnt make it work. Is the phone completely dead or is there anything more I can try? Any help is appreciated, thank you very much.
What was done to brick it in the first place?
Sent from my KYOCERA-C6745 using Tapatalk
I am not sure, my friend brought it to me and he didnt know the reason. Anyway I managed to get into fastboot on another computer and i tried to flash x loader and uboot with the bulit in options and i get the following error "FAILED (remote partition doesnt exist). What can I do next? Thank you for the reply.
EDIT I have tried to get the phone in S/W mode using this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=44325657&postcount=4 but I couldnt do it.
I am sure I have to flash something in fastboot so it would be great if someone could point me to exactly what. Thanks again.
EDIT 2 I tried to flash xloader and u boot from post #7 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2242444 and it gave me the remote partition error failed again. Is the phone "officially" dead?
My experience with this phone is that it is basically unbrickable, at least software wise, thanks to omap4boot. Fastboot is basically telling you the partition you specified doesn't exist. Check you are using the correct syntax. It should be fastboot flash u-boot u-boot.img and fastboot flash x-loader x-loader.img (I am assuming the files are named u-boot.img and x-loader.img).
Another possibility is that the partition table of the phone somehow got corrupted. In my opinion this is very unlikely, but it could happen if the phone is disconnected while flashing the GTP table with LGFlashTool. Let's hope that's not the case.
Good luck.
@EdwinMoq thanks for the reply. I checked and I was using the correct syntax altough the files were named p1 and p2 both in bin format so I typed fastboot flash u-boot p1.bin and p2.bin respectively. Ive just noticed that they are from ICS and I am not sure what android version was installed prior to the brick. Can you point me where to find the JB files so I can try them if it makes any difference.

I don't think the u and x boot version makes any difference. The fastboot script here comes with with the files for both p760 and p769. Or you can ask a p760 user with the jb boot to dump them and post it here.

I'm seeing you using lelus method to fastboot...
1) Be sure you are in fastboot whith this command: fastboot devices
2) if the l9 is still in lg logo, just flash a recovery img into boot and recovery partition:
a) fastboot flash boot recovery.img
b) fastboot flash recovery recovery.img3)reboot the device, it must enter in recovery mode by force.
4) once in recovery just flash a custom rom as you wish
Yes i am using lelus method and I see the device when I enter fastboot devices, the phone wont turn so there is no lg logo and I can not enter S/W mode. Where can I find the recovery.img and boot.img ?
EDIT Okay I tried this too http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2585161 but when I issue the erase command it just gives me the remote partition error again. The chances that this is a hardware issue are pretty big.

A few tricks that might help:
-After a failed attempt to enter D/L mode via the volume key, force hard reset. Then switch on phone for an extra time and perform the hard reset again. This really makes a difference.
-If after unbricking the phone with a stock rom the puny LG recovery dialog resides on screen, perform the stock rom installation for a second time, phone should perform a normal boot then. Otherwise there's trouble with rooting and TWRP installation later.
-Fastboot still does not work for me(all?) in Win10, as it didn't in Win8.1,but did in Win7.
The only method to go on seems to root stock rom with Kango Root or a similar tool, then install Twrp, with Rashr or flashify.

Elsewhere you must need a technician with a box like octopus box to recompone ESD partitions of the L9 phone
Hard reset is 10s power.
Such a swap of recovery and kernel could have happened after unbricking the phone, when the key combo for fastboot produces the LG recovery. That's why I flash stock twice, then it's right again & ready to root, install TWRP etc.
Thanks for the help guys, I tried everything possible...I think I did, but the phone just wouldnt unbrick so it is going into parts. Thanks again.

Srsly?
recovery partition image on boot?
Probably true. That would explain the strange behaviour of the key combos during boot, after unbricking the phone for the first time. The recovery has replaced the kernel, but the phone can still boot. Strange. Fastboot is unavailable, and the key combo for the recovery shows the "dead droid" and performs a factory reset.

Yes... is an effective method to boot by forced on TWRP or other recovery and then proceed to format all partitions and flash any rom consecutively. After flashing any rom the boot partition is rewrited by the boot.img of the rom.
I did this before on my own L9 for repair and other friends devices. Is totally safe
By the way, I'm not in warn

Help, H850 bricked

I tried to install a custom firmware on my phone, and now, my phone is locked in "Firmware Update" screen (same as when you press volume + when phone boots). I used LGUP tool to flash stock firmware, but with 6.0.1 shows an error [Error code=0x(2 numbers and 1 letter)]. And with 7.0 LGUP crashes. Any way to fix this?

allright, gonna try and help you.
1st, Is your bootloader unlocked? If so
try to flash twrp 3.0.2.1 in fastboot. Then boot in twrp by holding volume down and power button.
If you get into twrp you probably can flash a rom.

vs996 lost download mode

Hello. I am on a vs996, bootloader unlocked using wtf method. I have twrp and a working phone but I seem to have lost download mode, probably when trebalizing my phone. I can boot to twrp but any way I use to boot to download mode will cause my phone to boot loop into the os. (From twrp, from os,from adb, vol up+plug cable in, etc) I think I just have to reflash the correct laf to get download mode back but when I extracted from a kdz and flashed in twrp this did not work. Currently running dot os with no issues but if I loose twrp I will not be able to flash anything which would be an issue. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Trouble with adb Fastboot commands and Download Mode

Hi experts,
I'm chiming in here to see how to resolve issue with updating TWRP to latest version.
Currently have a bootloader unlocked (rooted) stock Verizon ROM VS996_20i with TWRP recovery. When using adb to try to flash updated recovery, the commands 'adb devices' does show phone ID. But then... 'adb reboot bootloader' immediately reboots/restarts the phone. So I'm unable to get to Fastboot commands and therefore can't run 'fastboot flash recovery'.
Upon further investigation, I found out that I am also unable to get into 'Download Mode'. With phone powered off while pressing Volume Up button, when I plug phone into PC it powers on and briefly shows 'Download Mode' icon. But then the phone immediately reboots the system and restarts. Phone still enters recovery mode as expected with full functioning TWRP.
Did I somehow lose (or corrupt) both Download and Bootloader mode(s)? I'd appreciate any advice. thanks

Try flashing back to stable TWRP. See if you have those issues.

I'm running (i think) a stable TWRP (3.2.3.7). This is the latest stable version, right? But my wife is on an older version. (3.1.?.?)... so I'm trying to update hers to the latest. Problem with both of our phones is that I can't seem to get to the flash commands using ADB. As above, when I run 'adb reboot bootloader', the phone simply restarts. In other words, how do we perform "flashing back"?

Oh, I thought you were trying the new 3.3.0 beta. 3 2.3.7 is the stable one.
Wow. How did she get on that old one?
You can update TWRP within TWRP. Go to TWRP Install, and change to "IMG" (lower right) and then it'll show you img files instead of zip files. You want to flash to Recovery, not any other partition.

Thanks for reminding me of how to update TWRP from within TWRP. I'll have to go that route.
But i'm still concerned about the inability to get into 'Download mode'. At some point I'll probable need to use LGUP again or need Fastboot commands. I'm wondering if the issue could be PC related or using an older platform tools for ADB. Or possible a bad cable? I'll troubleshoot.

Not sure what's going on with your Download mode, but you won't have fastboot flash commands while on VS996 firmware. Of the North America variants, only US998 has fastboot flash commands. That's why you had to temporarily Frankenstein to US998 for WTF Bootloader Unlock and TWRP installation....
However the only reason you needed fastboot flash commands was to unlock bootloader and install TWRP. After that, you use TWRP to install firmware, Magisk modules, ROMs.
If you ever need fastboot flash commands again, you'll have to flash to US998 firmware. You can do that with TWRP-flashable zip. You do NOT need to do the LGUP Frankenstein again.
